How to change video card settings for an existing pool?

I am trying to change the video card settings for all VM's in an already existing pool.

What I did was change the video card setting on my master image and then recomposed the pool However, when I check the individual VM's, the video card setting has not changed ... any reason why?

Thanks in advance.

View 4.5 Event Database Configuration

I have some trouble adding the View 4.5 event database. It's a SQL Express 2005 on the vCenter server. It's configured to listen to static port 1433. I use SQL authentication, and an SQL account. I've attached screenshots with the settings. I keep getting "an error occurred while attempting to configurate the database" Anybody here know what I'm doing wrong? I'm thinking maybe the database name should be in a different format, but I've tried different things without success.

View users get disconnected and cannot log back onto session

We have a handful of users that will randomly get disconnected from their view sessions and when they try to log back in it either gives them an error that the desktop cannot be contacted or it gives them a new virtual machine.  When looking in View Admin, their original desktops shows them as disconnected.  We are able to remote desktop to their vm.

Setup:

Dell fx100 pcoip zero clients

Vmware Horizon View 5.2

Floating pool

Pool settings only allow 1 session.

Persona Management and Symantec Workspace Streaming

Anybody try using Symantec Workspace Streaming and get any persona management to work correctly?  I'm working with a customer that insists on using Symantec Workspace Streaming.  Any body have any experience on using this with View?  What were your experiences?

Difference in Drive size in Parent and linked clone

Hi Team,

I am doing Vsphere 5.2 Horizon view Implementation . Implementation is going smooth but i have observed one c drive free space difference in Parent and Linked clone .

Windows 7 with Service pack 1 built with Optimization script to disable unwanted services. Free space in parent image c drive is 3.90 GB. when i Provisioned linked clone from that parent image snapshot i found free space in linked clone vdi is approx 6.5 GB.

Please clarify if anyone face the same or it is normal in linked clone.

Thanks

Ravindra.

view credentials question

Hi,

Is there a way to make the vmware view client use my windows credentials when logging on?  I have seen references to it, but I can't seem to find anyway of turning it on.

I am using the view 5.3 client.

Thanks

Adding Desktops to View pools

Sorry, stupid question, but how do you do it?

I am doing manual everything, no linked clones - the linked clones would actually cause me more work than it's worth as we are in a dev environment and users were unwilling to give up their "own" machine initially, but when I showed them they could have their "own" totally customized desktop, they seemed to think that was ok and the saving in disk space was minimal as they are getting 100GB machines... so just didn't seem worth it... bu back to the question....

After I created a pool and put some desktops in it... and then I spin up another VM and want to add the desktop to the pool... for the life of me can not find any button that allows you to add desktops to manual pools.

Thanks

Bill Dossett

Remote Zugang

Hallo.

Danke.

Black screen after shrinking parent VM

Having a strange issue with our view 5.2 environment. We had a parent VM that was created with a hdd of 100gb thin provisioned, a linked clone pool was then created from this VM.

what we have done is used vmware converter and shrink the parent VM to a new VM down to 35gb and then used this new parent VM for the pool. The problem is when logging in to the pool now you see the welcom screen for a split second then the screen goes black but you still hear the windows loading sounds. the VM is windows 7 64bit.

I have tried reinstalling vmware tools and the view agent and recomposing the pool with that but still have the same issue.

i have been through the KB articles on black screen but evrything seems to be correct as the pool was working and does work if we recompose it with the original parent VM.

any ideas??

How to print screen of View Client session into local clipboard ?

My wife is making training material for a system accessed using VMWare View Client but ALT-PrntScrn doesn't put the screen shot of the remote system into her local clipboard (XP).

Is there a different  hot key combination that would allow this? Or has it been disabled at the server end?

I'm assuming that the screen shot is going into the remote clibboard but that system doesn't have any applications into which you can paste the shot and then transfer it to her local system. The client has no printing or USB capabilities and we don't have access to the IT department that put this together (or manuals!).

Grateful for any ideas..............

Chris

Enabling composer fails with "There was a connection problem"

Hi,

we are evaluating vmware view 4.6 right now and we have problems enabling composer for an attached vcenter.

The setup is as follows

vCenter / Composer Server

- W2008R2 64bit

- SQL2005 Express  (9.0.3042)

- vCenter Server Standard 4.1.0 258902

- View composer 2.6.0-349155, View Composer is listening on port 18443 (default)

View Connection Server

- W2008R2 64bit

- Connection Server 64bit - 4.6.0-366101

Both systems are in the same Domain, DNS is working like a charm.

Adding VCenter to View Administrator works without problems. We are using a dedicated AD service account,

which has admin-privileges within vCenter & vew Administrator, and is local admin on vcenter & connection server

But when enabling View Composer the following error is displayed "There was a connection problem", and the composer is not enabled.

We are using a dedicated AD-service account for Composer, too. It has admin-privileges within vCenter & view Administrator, and is local admin on vcenter & connection server.

It has the relevant AD-Permissions to add computer accounts to AD.

The following error is logged in the connextion server's debug log

2011-05-20 14:35:03,837 DEBUG <TP-Processor3> [ViewFlexFactory] There was a connection problem. com.vmware.vdi.admin.ui.common.ViewFlexFactory$ViewProxy.invoke(SourceFile:87)

Paren Vm location does not correspond with the actual location of parent vm when I recompose

I move a parent vm (gold image) from one folder to another in vsphere client.  All looks ok.

I go into vmview and under the pool settings I set the parent vm to the new location (pool1--edit--vcenter settings--parent vm).  I can set it here and choose a snapshot.

When I go into a vm that I want to recompose (view composer--recompose).  The parent vm location that it shows is not updated to the new location.

ex:

new parent vm is in /server/vm/master.  Moved FROM /server/vm

when I recompose the parent vm says it's in /server/vm and erro: one of the required objects in not found in the vcenter server.

If I move the parent vm back to /server/vm, a recompose works fine.

Can I not move the parent vm?

thanks.

Internet explorer locking up

We have a strange issue with our View VM's.

Go to https://tools.usps.com/go/ZipLookupAction!input.action, look up an address. Try to look up another address. IE will not allow anything to be typed in any of the fields. IE acts like it locks up the keyboard (you can type in other applications).

If you close the browser and re-open it, you can do another search. This happens with some other sites also.

Seems to only happen if the user is not an administrator.

We used to have this problem previously, although I dont remember how it was corrected.

Kiosk Mode sessions timeouts

We have a number of pools where our zero clients pull up a VM via custom-XXXXX credentials so we can easily control which pool is exposed to which groups of clients, but I'm seeing lots of session timeouts in the events. Occasionally, we're also seeing random clients disconnect for several seconds and then jump back to their desktop on the locked screen. Not sure if they're related or not, but would bumping up the global session timeout on the respective Connection Server be useful in this case? Or what is the best practice for using Kiosk Mode for both SSO enabled or disabled pools?

How to extend a View license

Hi

I have to extend a VIew 5.0 (250User) license with 10 Users. Can I add this in Connection Manager and then they are added to the existing once (Totally 260)?

Or do I need the Customer VMware Login to merge the existing license with the new one?

Thanks a lot!

View RTAV and WebCam not working

I have installed FP2 on the View VM's and Client 5.4 on our client machines.  I am able to connect, and the microphone from the client works great inside of the VM.  The problem is that no matter what the client machine is, or whether it is a USB or integrated webcam, it does not get passed through to the View VM.  I have checked the local clients debug log files, and it states the the webcam is detected and shows all of the proper info.  In the VM, I can see a "VMWare Virtual Microphone", but no "VMWare Virtual Webcam".  Client Debug file is attached.  Any idea where I can look next?

VMWare Horizon View w/Local Mode - Ctrl Alt Del - Need Administrator Rights

I want to be able to use Ctrl+Alt+Del (not Ctrl+Alt+Ins) within the VM guest OS after logging on through VMware Horizon View Client without having it invoked on both the host and guest.  I found out that installing VMware Horizon View w/Local Mode and enabling a setting called "use enhanced keyboard on windows client if available" in group policy would achieve that.  Indeed, doing the aforementioned works, but if I remove the user's administrator rights (Windows 7) Ctrl-Alt-Del would work again in both the guest VM and host.  I tried using "runnas" to elevate privileges and pass a user credential with admin rights but it doesn't work correctly.  Is there any way around this without the admin rights?  VMware comes up with the idea of allowing you to invoke Ctrl-Alt-Del within the guest VM but only with admin rights.  What gives?

Thanks.
