Teradici PCoIP with RDS 2019 Server, wrong Resolution

$

Hello,

I have the problem on all of our Zero Clients (tera2) with an external monitor that the resolution is displayed incorrectly when connecting to an RDS server.
Connection to the VDI linked clone works fine.

The resolution on the login screen is 1680x1050, after log on to the RDS server it jumps to 1024x768.

When using the Windows Horizon software, the resolution to RDS is correct, only the Teradici Zero Client is not correct.

This behavior is over DVI port. When using the VGA port, the screen is black and shows "source signal on other port"

Do you have an idea?

best regards

Default printer is not remembered in VDI

Hi,

we have vmware vSphere6 and VDI desktop infrastructure. Every time user loggs in into VDI his default printer is not the printer which it made default in previous login. Vm pool is Automated Desktop Pool with source vCenter (linked clone). This happens on win8 or win10, it doesn't matter.

I found this in discussion:

I found the sollution eventually.

Its realated to the "network location awareness" service

2 options:

[s]1. (for every user) disable the "Network Location Awareness" Service in the services console and include it in your gold image

(i believe its related to: every guest generates there own network ID, if the ID is different NLA sets the default printer to the system default (which in my case is the PDF creator)[/s] (sorry guys, this was NOT the sollution)

2. If you do not want to disable the NLA service,  Do it on a per-user base in the current user registry (see below)

Create a Key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers ... named: Defaults

Then create an entry (string value): Disabled and set it to: 1

--- printer_per_user.reg ----

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Defaults]
"Disabled"="1"

but registry editing and disabling service didn't helped. Any more ideas?

Teams backgrounds with View and PCoIP Zero Client

Hi,

i have a Windows 10 VM with 16 GB, 4 vCPU of a Xeon Silver 4110 CPU and via vDGA a Nvidia Tesla P4 GPU.

I'm using a Fujitsu Futro L620 PCoIP Zero Client, which has a Tera 2140 with 2 monitors at 2560x1600.

The Horizon View Agent is the latest and i have USB Passthrough enabled.

At the Zero Client i have a Microsoft LifeCam HD-3000 USB cam connected, this Webcam works without problems. I see the camera directly as a USB device and the driver for this is installed in the VM.

For using the speaker and microphone connectors of the Zero Client i have installed the Teradici audio drivers, this is working without problems too.

The only problem i have: I'm not able to activate my own backgrounds in Teams. I can only use background blur.

Is it possible that Teams disable that feature because i'm in a VDI session?

Or where can be the problem?

Is there something else i can optimize?

Kind regards

Stefan

VDI VM Background Blur in Teams Meetings

Blurring Hardware for Modern PCs

Announced in July 2018 along with the free version of Teams, users can blur the background of video calls. The feature is now generally available. However, the technology to perform face recognition to identify the person and understand where the background to be blurred begins and ends only runs on reasonably recent PC equipped with Advanced Vector Extension 2 (AVX2) graphics. AVX2 is what Teams uses to blur the background after it figures out where the user is.

AVX2 is supported by PCs that have a post-Haswell chipset. Blurring works on my Surface Book 2, but doesn’t on my HP Envy 17 of 2014 vintage. Be aware that the CPU has some processing to do to locate a face and blur the background, so it can impact other work on the PC if you run a loaded system.

Background blur is supported in the Teams desktop client for Windows and Mac, but not in the Linux or browser clients.

For more information about the hardware requirements for blurring, see the note in hardware requirements for Microsoft Teams. More detailed information for Windows PC is in hardware decoder and encoder driver recommendations.

The optional Blur my background video effect requires a processor with Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2) support. See Hardware decoder and encoder driver recommendations for a list of unsupported decoders and encoders.

My VM users do not have the option to blur their background in Microsoft Teams is there any way to get this to work? somewhere in the VM setting? View settings?

Vsphere Flash Read Cache and View

Hello,

I just added two flash cards to my view servers. VFRC is working OK with servers, but I wanted to accelerate user's view guests.

I want to accelerate the system disk (the one inherited from golden image). I tried configuring VFRC on the golden image, and after that taking a snapshot.

When recomposing I see that the linked clones do not have VFRC activated, so they don't do flash caching.

How can it be done automatically, as the only way I see for now is changing the guests HD VFRC properties one by one.

Thank you!

Horizon 7.2 version:Horizon agent service not starting automatically

$

There are 2 OU's. In the OU with issue the virtual machines have Windows event log service(Disabled state) and the Horizon agent state(stopped state) are stopped. They can only be started by logging into the machines manually. In a test OU deployed with only default domain policies the machines have the Windows eventlog service in started state bu the Horizon Agent service is in stopped state. This can be rectified by either restarting the machines manually or through the Horizon UI. After being available state on the UI the vms with issue tend to be unstable with the availability status. Both machines(Machines with and without issue) are in agent unreachable status in the Horizon admin UI. Any solutions or known issues with 7.2 version.

4. In the AppVolume console, its showing assigned, but not attached. Other 2 appstacks are attaching without any issues.

When I try to use remote computer from my MacOS 10.15.4 machine with Horizon 5.4.2 I have no working mouse on the Horizon window.

Saw another posting where somebody suggested going to Privacy/Accessability  and unchecking Horizon under Allow Apps Control of my computer.

When I try this horizon will not uncheck, the apps above it can be changed nut horizon will not.

I have un installed and reinstalled Horizon with no impact.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

VMWare Redundant VDI

Hi,

I have some questions about redundant VDI.

Currently, VDI takes about 20 seconds to failover. Is there a way to speed up the process ?

Instant clones assigned based on load balance.

On Host disconnect, Horizon View freezes and closes after 2 minutes. Can this time be shortened ?

Once reconnected to new VM there is still a 20 seconds delay. (Time to load/autologin).

Thank you for your answers.

Horizon View Client Drive Redirection (CDR) not working

$

Hi,

We are having issues with Client Drive Redirection on Windows 10 1709. When users log in using the Horizon Client (Blast protocol), they are able to see a mapped drive which maps to the host's c:\users\<username> location. When a user initiates a copy/paste operation from the virtual desktop to the mapped drive, the Copy popup window gets stuck at 0% and when they click "This PC" in File Explorer, nothing shows up in the right pane. Once in a while, they also get a pop saying: \\tsclient\<username> is not accessible. Attempt to access invalid address. This happens for internal and external connection to the VDI. However, once in a while, copy/paste operations do work. When they do the problem above strikes after a couple of copy/paste operations.

This is the VDI setup:

  • Horizon View 7.5.1
  • UEM 9.4
  • Windows 10 1709

I did notice that this DOES NOT happen in Windows 7. I am trying to migrate users off of Windows 7 but need this CDR problem resolved first. Has anyone ran into this issue? Thanks.

VMware View client drive redirection disconnects auntomatically

Hi

We have users using PST and since they are huge we have enabled client drive redirection and map the pst using this option. We found that the client drives are auto-disconnected in certain cases and couldn't find the root cause this issue.

Please Advice

"null desktop launch timing profile for" in View Events

Is anyone familiar with what "null desktop launch timing profile for user xyz" means in the View events log? I can't say for sure this is even linked to an ongoing issue, but, we come across it in the logs while working on another issue, or even through routine log reviews. We do use cloud pod across 2 data centers, and wonder if it's related to a user authenticating in DC1, but getting a pool/desktop from DC2.

I couldn't find much through the Google, so, hoping someone on the forums has a better definition than what I have, which is nothing.

We did enable the timing profiler on all of our brokers a few months ago. If anyone knows the command to verify that, I'd love to have it. I have the comm and to enable/disable, but, would be nice to just check status.

Thanks in advance.

Horizon View freezes and closes after 2 minutes

Hi,

I am testing my VDI environment and I found a little issue. So for my problem, when I am connected to desktop from the desktop pool with VMware Horizon Client and I shutdown my ESXI host, the Horizon View freezes for about ~2 minutes and than it closes.

I want to know if this time can be shortened ?

Thank you.

Users are forcibly logged off on recompose task

$

Hi,

We have a weird problem on recompose tasks.

When i schedule a recompose task and choosing "Wait for the user log off" option, after a few hours the users are forcibly logged off somehow even though i chose Wait for the user log off" option.

Although, the "Log off after disconnect" and "Refresh after log off" pool options are set to "Never".

For example:

Recompose task created on 02:00 PM,

All machines with status "Available" or "Provisioned" are getting the task almost immediately (As it should be),

All machines with status "Disconnected" are getting the Recompose task on hold, waiting for the user to log off as it should be, but after a few hours, at 08:00 PM or at 11:00 PM something is forcing those "Disconnected" machines to log off and then they are recomposed.

I looked for schedule tasks on our environment or GPO or anything else that could cause to a log off process but i couldn't find anything.

Of course that this is a very problematic issue because the user experience is impacted.

Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks!

View client and dump files - how to disable them?

$

I'm a desktop engineer and looking into the situation that Horizon view client 4.4 can generate a lot of dump files. I noticed these files are stored in C:\ProgramData\VMware\VDM\Dumps as well in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\VMware\VDM

These files are around 400-600 mb each and one user had about 40 GB of dump files. Another user has about 20 GB of files.

Is there a way to limit the number of files generated? Or otherwise, to disable the creation all together?

See screenshot below of one user with a number of files in a short period of time

Thanks.

Chrome OS Horizon Client - Smart Card

$

The Chrome OS Horizon client has become more and more powerful over the last few months and I'm one step away from being able to use it with my smart card-enabled Horizon provider. I'm able to log into the server and even launch a desktop. However, once inside the desktop, no smart card certificates are presented to the session inside of the Horizon client window and I'm unable to log in.

I'm on Chrome OS 83 on a HP x360 Chromebook 14" (Intel i3 processor) using the latest Horizon client (released on 22 May 2020). I'm using an Identiv SCR3500 smart card reader with the Smart Card Connector and CACKey apps. Charismatics won't even get me to the point of seeing a desktop, so I've given up on that app.

Based on the missing "USB listener" lines in the Chrome OS debug log, I believe this comes down to lack of support for USB listeners in Chrome OS. However, I could be wrong. Any suggestions for getting past this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Multiple Monitors with a vApp

Hello,

I have a client with that is having trouble getting multiple monitors to function when using a vApp. Dual monitors work fine for virtual desktops but not for a vApp. They are using the Blast protocol if that matters. Any suggestions on where to look to resolve this issue?    Thank you.

VRAM settings for linked clone floating pools

$

Hi,

We have a ticket open for this issue and awaiting a reply from vmware support.  In the meamtime, maybe someone in the forums can help us with this issue.

Problem: Configured Pool Video Ram settings not being deployed on win10 desktops.

vSphere & subsystems infrastructure:

2 vCenters VCSA 6.5U3f – 1 for VDI 1 for Servers with 1 external PSC VCSA

Horizon View 7.12 servers and Agents

Unified Access Gateway 3.4

NSX Managers 6.46

Windows 10 Linked Clone pools non persistent desktops

Appvolumes 2.18

DEM 9.11 (upgraded from 9.6 last week) – fixed issue of win10 appx disappearing from DEM profiles after second login)

View Agent 7.12

PCoiP used with thin clients P25 Wyse

On our windows 10 link clone pool, we have set 512MB  for VRAM and enable 3d support is Automatic but once win10 desktop are deployed In the pool, only 128MB is being set on VM when doing ‘edit settings’ we should see 512MB total video memory but we only see 128MB, users are experiencing slow PCoIP response and this is a critical problem.

Is there a limitation for floating pool link clone VRAM?  We didn’t have this issue with win7 dedicated pool which had the same VRAM settings and when editing the win7 in vspehre, 512MB was set as per the pool settings. What could be overwriting the pool settings once vm is deployed?

Win10 Pool Setttings

Win10 VRAM pool settings.png

Win10 vm after recomposed - here we see 128MB where we should see 512

Win7 after deployment with same pool settings - perfectly matches the pool settings.

How to Identify which Replica a VM belongs to?

$

Hi All,

I have a few rogue replica's in View 5 and would like to clean them up.

I have 5 replica's, of which im pretty sure only 1 is in use. Is there a record somewhere of which pool is using which replica, or which vm is using which replica?

I know how to delete the rogue replica's but not how to identify which are actually in use!

Thanks,
