VMware Blast is not working properly after upgrading View client to 5.3 or 5.4 or 5.41

Hi,

I wanted to ask if someone face that problem. We are at View 7.10 and UAG 3.7. and Vsphere 6.0 U3. All machines are Instant clones.

What we are facing is that if I'm using  lView client 5.3 or 5.4 or 5.41 when connect to VM with VMware Blast the machine is only blinking (you see the Desktop but attempting to click on anything is not responsive) and technically is not usable. If I downgrade to View client 5.0 everything is working fine.

PCoIP works just fine. That is how I setup the users so they can use their VM's. I can't find anything related to this problem.

Please share if you have the same problem or find the solution.

Thanks in advance.

Unified Gateway Deployment Using Powershell

I am deploying UAG 3.9 using the powershell scripts supplied by VMware (as per Using PowerShell to Deploy VMware Unified Access Gateway ), but the scripts don't seem to work with v3.9 of the UAG. The DeploymentOption attribute in the OVA is no longer supported so the sections looking for onenic, twonic of threenic dont work. To get this to work I have modified the uagdeploy.ps1 script to avoid this deployment option. I changed these:

Remove line 201 $ovfOptions += " --deploymentOption=$deploymentOption"

Remove the switch statement in line 191 and just leave the three nic options

UAG Blast - Failed to resolve proxying route for request

Hello,

We have had UAG running for a while and it works fine using the full client but there has been a recent requirement for HTML Blast access for external users which does not work fine.

It's been enabled for a while as far as I'm concerned but we never tested it. Authentication works fine and users can see and select their desktop pool, it then takes them to a screen saying "Failed to resolve proxying route for request".

I have downloaded to log bundle but it's not revelaing very much at all. The last entry in the esmanager.log file says "Accessing virtual/rdsh desktop using protocol BLAST with ipAddress x.x.x.x (the connection server). The BG log file really doesn't say anything of note.

HTML access works fine internally if not using the UAG and there are no drops of any traffic on the firewalls. I do have a load balancer in place but I am bypassing that for now and just pointing at a single connection server, it makes no difference though.

Cheers.

Certificate Issues with UAG

Hey Folks,

I'm trying to set up a UAG (3.9.1) for my users. In our environment we use smart cards, so I am attempting to configure X.509 and it is failing. If the UAG is configured with Username/Password it works fine.

I have a cert from external CA in "crt" format. Following the UAG Guide and setting up SAML, I am trying to convert the cert to one line PEM format and I dont know if I am doing this correctly.

The doc says:

If your certificate is in PKCS#12 (.p12 or .pfx) format, or after the certificate is converted to PKCS#12 format, use openssl to convert the certificate to .pem files.

For example, if the name of the certificate is mycaservercert.pfx, use the following commands to convert the certificate:

openssl pkcs12 -in mycaservercert.pfx -nokeys -out mycaservercert.pem

openssl pkcs12 -in mycaservercert.pfx -nodes -nocerts -out mycaservercertkey.pem

openssl rsa -in mycaservercertkey.pem -check -out mycaservercertkeyrsa.pem

In my case the cert I received was in "crt" format from the CA, so I converted it to "pfx" format using openssl;

openssl pkcs12 -export -out certificate.pfx -inkey privateKey.key -in certificate.crt

Once the file was converted to pfx, I ran the commands as described above and created the 3 files. Then I converted them to one line PEM format as the doc says to do using the awk command.

However, when I went to configure the SAML settings in the UAG and uploaded the private keyfile I get the following error;

Invalid PEM format. Exception message: -----END RSA PRIVATE KEY not found

I checked the file in Notepad++ and it is clearly there. I even tried removing the trailing "\n" but it made no difference.

I even tried uploading the normal PEM cert files (I read somewhere recently that single single conversion is no longer needed). The UAG accepts them, but authentication still fails when attempting to log in. Checking the authbroker.log file in the UAG, I found this line...

Caused by: java.io.IOException: -----END RSA PRIVATE KEY not found

I'm kinda stumped at this point. Can anyone offer any advice?

Want to deploy VMware Horizon 7 version 7.7 via MSI

Windows 10 start menu

We are running vmware horizon 7.8, with windows 10 1809 LTSC, non persistence linked clone pools.  We have fslogix setup and it seems to be working fine for all desktop icons, shortcuts, and internet favorites.  The issue we have is that on initial login, everything is great and works fast.  After the user logs off and back on, the start menu is blank.  None of the installed programs are there, only settings and search show up.  If I kill the explorer process and restart is, everything is fine.  I have tried a ton of different GPO settings and none ave any effect.

I am not sure if I should place anything in the redirections.xml file for fslogix, but I had this same issue with persona management and windows 10, but persona management has many other issues with windows 10 besides this.  So far FSLogix has been working fine, I just cannot figure out how to get the start menu to come up correctly after the user logs off and the vm rebuilds.

I have tried several different builds of windows 10 and they all end up doing the same thing.  It has to something in my setup.

Hi,
We have a Horizon View 6. Connecting from PCoIP clients (Wyse/Samsung) throws "View Connection Server communication error" whereas there is no problem connecting from PC/iPad/iPhone with Horizon View Client or web browser.

On PCoIP client I have tried checking "do not verify server identity certificates" and also tried putting 443 or 4172 or 80 on the port for the View Connection Server but they throws same error.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Horizon View 7.12 Postsync Script with Gpupdate

$

We have always had a postsync script for instant clones that also runs a gpupdate /force because sometimes group policy wouldn't update properly without it.  When trying the Horizon Agent 7.12 in a pool we have found that if the script has gpupdate in it the script will always fail.  If I remove that everything else works fine.  Has anyone else seen this issue?  Does anyone know if this is intentional?  I haven't had the opportunity to make sure that group policy always updates without it now as  this is just a test pool, so it may be moot, but I'm curious about this.

Error 404 while attempting SAML authentication to Horizon View environment!

$

I've setup a Proof of Concept environment for Horizon 7.  I've got a test user successfully logging in and getting a desktop from either instant clone or linked clone pools.

I'm now trying to authenticate users using a 3rd Party SAML authenticator.  I've followed the scant documentation provided at Using SAML Authentication to setup a Static authenticator.  I've copied the metadata from hzn7-cs1.domain.com/SAML/metadata/sp.xml and sent it over to the IDP.  In Horizon View Administrator, the dashboard shows all services are in the green - including SAML.

In the metadata, I see the Assertion Consumer Service (ACS) URL:

<md:AssertionConsumerServiceBinding="urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:2.0:bindings:HTTP-POST"Location="https://hzn7-cs1.cipherize.com/broker/xml"index="0"isDefault="true"/>

When I perform an IDP initiated login, I'm greeted by a 404 error when the IDP sends a POST to the specified Assertion Consumer Service (ACS) URL:

https://hzn7-cs1.cipherize.com/broker.xlm

Directly navigating to this ACS URL also returns a 404 - is this really the correct ACS URL?

What could be the issue?  Has anyone been able to get this working?

Thanks muchly,

AK.

Get-HVMachineSummary not showing User info

Hi all, I have a Horizon 7.12 environment that I've been querying using the VMware PowerCLI, together with the VMware.Hv.Helper module. When I run the cmdlet Get-HVMachineSummary I don't get any user information being displayed. Does anyone know why this would be the case? I get 'Machine', 'DesktopPool', 'DNS Name', 'Host', 'Agent', 'Datastore', and 'Status' but no 'User' information.

Also, how can I get the 'Display Protocol' displayed, like it does in the Horizon Admin console?

Thanks in advance.

ClonePrep customization script issue (7.11)

Hi,

I have a problem with the execution of the customization script of ClonePrep with Windows 7 SP1 full update.

With Windows 10 no problem!

I activated the full log mode and here is what I see in the file:

2020-04-08T18:10:27.728+02:00 DEBUG (0740-075C) <1884> [vmware-svi-ga] svmga::core::windows::Guest::SecureScript(): Script Name: Post-Customization, Script Path: "C:\Windows\Temp\Start.bat"

2020-04-08T18:10:27.728+02:00 DEBUG (0740-075C) <1884> [vmware-svi-ga] svmga::core::windows::Guest::SecureScript(): Failed Creating Post-Customization, Hash File: 0x80070003

...

2020-04-08T18:10:58.834+02:00 DEBUG (0740-075C) <1884> [vmware-svi-ga] svmga::core::windows::Guest::RunPostCustomizationScript(): Failed To Execute Post-Customization Script. It Was Not Secured

I tried to place the script in different places:

C: \ Windows \ Temp

C: \ ProgramData

And I always get the same error.

In the documentation it says:

Important:

Put the ClonePrep customization scripts in a secure folder to prevent unauthorized access.

What does secure folder mean?

What is the error I get indicating that the script is not secure?

And why don't I have this problem with Windows 10?

Thank you in advance for your help !

Hello,

I actually have a horizon server in domain "domainA". I have an other domain "domainB", i would like the users from domainB to use the horizon server.

At this point I have a bidirectional approbation between domainA and domainB. The new domain appears in the Horizon Administrator window but in red status saying "error cannot contact domain".

I disactivated firewall but its the same. I added in DNS domainB conditional redirects in domainA and vice versa.

The new domain doesnt appear in the domain list on the Horizon client.

Could you please help me ?

Horizon 7 Radius Authentication Problems

Has anyone had success with configuring RADIUS 2-Factor Auth on Horizon View 7?  I've been attempting to setup Duo on our pre-production HV7 environment and have had little success.

When trying to authenticate with 2-Factor enabled I receive a "Error Encountered While Authenticating" Alert from the Horizon Client.  A packet capture on the connection server shows no activity to or from our RADIUS server, its almost as if something in the application stack is broken.

Attached is a sample of what I've found in the debug logs, noting that there is an error at 2016-05-18T11:03:51.090-04:00 "Error setting up/performing authentication net.propero.portal.filters.ProperoAuthFilter.doFilter(SourceFile:472) java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException" and another at 2016-05-18T11:03:51.091-04:00  "Finished processing: submit-authentication, Result: error, Error Code: BROKER_DISABLED, Error Message: this broker currently disabled, User Message: Error encountered while authenticating".  I have submitted a ticket with VMware, but I'm curious to see if anyone else is experiencing the issue, this is a freshly built environment and not an upgrade from 6.

VMware tools, View agents, nVidia drivers - install order?

$

This is our current environment

  • ESXi 6.7 Update 1 running on HPE DL380s Gen10 servers
  • VMWare View 7.6.0
  • VMWare Tools 10.2.5
  • nVidia 7.0 - this includes the vib install on the ESXi hosts as well as the nVidia driver install under Windows
  • Window 10 version 1709

I know when building a new master image, the order of install is:

  1. VMware Tools
  2. VMware View agents
  3. nVidia drivers
I now want to upgrade to VMWare tools to 10.3.5 which was just released. Which method do I use?

Method 1
Upgrade master image VMWare tools, new snapshot, recompose desktops
Method 2

  • Uninstall nVidia drivers, reboot master image
  • Uninstall VMWare view agents, reboot
  • Upgrade VMWare tools, reboot
  • Install VMWare View agents, reboot
  • Install nVidia drivers, reboots
  • Set licensing server, new snapshot, recompose desktops

Machine Targeted Group Policies not consistently loading in Horizon View Environment

I've seen a couple posts on this but I haven't seen an answer that seems to fit my issue. We have had random issues in the past with Group Policies not running on login but it seems like recently we have been getting a lot more reports of it (It is still inconsistent though) and it appears to specifically be our Machine-Targeted policies that are failing to load. In the last 2 months we have upgraded our View environment from 7.4 to 7.10 and also turned on Cloud Pod architecture. Here is the basic info on our environment:

Cloud Pod:

  • 2 Sites with 1 Pod in each Site
  • 6 Production Global Entitlements
  • 4 Entitlements using Home Sites (2 in the remote site and 2 in the main site)

System Layout:

  • 2 Data Centers (each are a separate Site in Cloud Pod)
  • 4 UAGs (2 in each DC) for external connections
  • 4 Connection Servers (2 in each DC)
  • 2 Composer Servers (1 in each DC)
  • SQL Availability Group (2 members)

Agent VMs

  • Windows 7
  • Profile Management: Liquidware Labs Profile Unity

I tried adding the GpNetworkStartTimeoutPolicyValue reg entry (with a 45 second value) as Microsoft recommended and also enabled the "Always wait for the network at startup and logon" local group policy (both in a test pool) but I am still getting inconsistent GP loads. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!
