control-click (right-click) not working

$

Hi,

I've been using v1.3 for a number of months without any real issues, Vsphere5 and windows XP,7 desktops. I upgraded yesterday to v1.5 and noticed that the Mac Control-click which produces a right click in windows had stopped working, no right click in guest. I went back to v1.4 and it still did not work. I then went back to v1.3 and it started working again. I'm wondering if I'm missing something obvious or whether there is an issue. My Mac is running osx 10.7.3..

thanks

Horizon Instant Clone Log On - Group Policy not applied

$

Hi,

Currently i am deploying Horizon 7.11 with Windows 10 instant clone + DEM + Appvolumes. One of the issue i encountered randomly is my vdi user successfully logon to the virtual desktop but the group policies are not applied. Running gpupdate /r return error basically telling me particular group policy {xxxx-xxx-xxxx-xxxxx}\gpt.ini is not accessible. Which the mentioned policies {xxxx-xxx-xxxx-xxxxx} actually could not be found when i browse to the link \\domain\sysvol\domain\policies\.

The domain controller is pingable.

Also running gpresult /r returned an error message: INFO: The user does not have RSoP data

However, sometimes the logon by the same user does not face the same issue and the said policy actually exists in \\domain\sysvol\domain\policies\

The issues happens to the same domain controller, sometimes it hits the issue, sometimes it just works.

This looks like active directory issue to me, if anyone has faced similar issue and know which direction we should look into from the AD side, please share with me.

Thanks!

Provisioning Error (MIssing)

I've seen this before and never had an issue recovering from it until now.  I have a pool of Linked Clones and have a vm that i cannot get to go away.  Had an issue where the user was getting an error (could't get on the domain) so i decided to unattach her persistent disk and give her another.  After it was removed the VM got stuck in the DELETING state.  I tried removing it and then got a provisioning error.  I tried to remove it from the Adam DB and it was removed successfully.  When i try to enable provisioning again the error goes to Provivioning Error: View Composer Fault: Virtual Machine with input specifications already exists.  Teh VM doesn;t show up in Adam or vcenter but yet it will not go away.  Any ideas on how to get rid of this error?  I am going to shutdown the servers and restart them in order to see if that fixes it.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

VM "Windows cannot connect to printer" when trying to connect to network printer

Running Horizon View 7.11

APP VOL 4.0 writable volumes

Windows 10 1909 Education

Using non-persistent composed linked-clones.

The base image when prepping and trouble shooting can connect/add printers without issue.. Once composed the desktops will get an error when trying to add a network printer. You can create a local TCP/IP connection to add the printer without issue..

When trying to connect to a network printer.. it will go through the discovering drivers.. installing drivers.. and then will give the error "Windows cannot connect to printer"

operation failed with error 0x0000006

I have one snapshot before installing APPVOL that works. The SNAP after APPVOL does not work.

I am out of ideas of what to look at/try.. I have reached out to support but have not heard back yet (just wrote them this morning) but thought I would reach out to this community as well..

I am stumped!

VMware Horizon Client - Windows 10 - Freezes with my home WIFI (router ZTE ZXHN F680)

Hi everybody,

I have the following issue with VMware Horizon Client (5.3.0 build-15208953) in Windows 10 and with my home WIFI (router ZTE ZXHN F680):

I connect to my server without problems but after some time the screen freezes and a few seconds later the connection is lost and a message appears saying that the connection was finished. When I try to reconnect, after entering my username and my password a black screen appears instead of my desktop and a several seconds later a timeout message appears. However, I can reconnect without problems if I use 4G from my mobile, or if I use an Ethernet cable with the same router or if I use a different router (I connected another router to the ZTE with an Ethernet cable to be used as a repeater and I connected the laptop to the new router via WIFI).

I do not have problems with other applications, only with VMware Horizon Client...

Any ideas about this problem? Should I look for something in the log files?

Thanks,

Miguel

VMWare View - Physical Desktop Privacy

Hi all,

I am testing out View and connecting to physical desktops. My environment is 7.5.4, using the latest agent. Physical machine is Windows 10 version 1803.

I have it working and it seem to work well so far but the screen on the physical desktop is wide open and anyone can see what is going on. Is there a way to prevent this.

Also the dual monitor setup on the desktop has to be reconfigured if you made a view session with a single monitor device like a laptop.

Thanks.

native driver not redirecting into horizon session - defaults to UPD

Like the title says, printer redirection works but the redirected printer defaults to using the UPD driver, not the NPD driver. I have tested with policy, printerredirection admx, setting enable to map the NPD with fallback to UPD - running the latest agent and client, ver. 7.7 and 4.4.  Anybody run into this and get it resolved, thanks@

Pool Creation - Guest Customization - No Domain

Pretty simple scenario here.

Tossing together a quick test environment.

Single ESXi 4.1 host.  On Host

Windows 2008 R2 - Running vCenter (4.1) and View Composer (2.5)

Windows 2008 Enterprise (x32) - Running View Server (4.5)

Windows 7 - Gold Master for View. (Agent 4.5)

All the machines are on the same domain, whose credentials I use to log into vCenter and View Admin.

When I attempt to create a link clone pool in the View admin panel, I get to Guest Customization.  The domain drop down is blank (instead of the normal domain\user).  When you click "Browse" next to AD Container you get the following message:

"Unable to retrieve information from Active Directory for domain null"

Hopefully someone can help square me away!  I've a 4.0 set up (vCenter and ESXi) running View 4.5 with a few XP pools with no problems and I can't seem to figure out what the difference might be here.

Injecting identity information into golden image clone

$

Hello,

we are currently evaluating possible ways of how to use our software with the Horizon 7 desktop pools. The problem we have is that every clone of the golden image needs to have an identity key and this identity key needs to stay persistent after the clone of the golden image is recreated (identity is bound to the host name more or less). Are the some "best practices" of how one can achieve that? Is it somehow possible to inject such information into the "identity diff/image" that Horizon 7 should be using for restoring the identity of Windows after a clone of the golden image is created?

We are thinking about writing some script that would restore such information from a file share on a first start of the golden image clone (based on the host name of the clone). But this does require an external file share and doesn't sound like a good solution for us. So if someone had to solve similar issues - please share your experience.

Thanks!

Slow Logon | VMware Logon Monitor | Shell Load Time?

Hi All,

I'm struggling with logon times so have enabled the VMware Logon Monitor, have configured it with the RemoteLogPath and configured the Connection Servers for the timingProfiler. It's a nested lab so I'm not expecting anything ground breaking with logon times. I'm struggling to find any information about exactly what the Shell Load Time means, other than "Windows provides the start time of the user shell load. The end time is when the explorer window is created." Could anyone expand on how I can debug this please?

I've followed the 'Creating an Optimized Windows Image for a VMware Horizon Virtual Desktop' to the letter.

UAG 3.8 and RADIUS Passcode Label

$

I have recently deployed UAG 3.8 to take advantage of the new RADIUS features this version brings in. The actual RADIUS and MFA functionality works as expected, however, I am unable to get the " Passcode label for RADIUS" setting to stick

I have configured the setting in Horizon settings but the Horizon client still shows "Passcode" in the text lablel. I have verified that settings are applied as the RADIUS Login page passphrase hint works fine. Has anyone come across this issue with 3.8?

UPDATE: Resolution was to update to horizon client version 5.3

Windows 10 slow login

$

We have been running Window 7 using View for several years. It takes about 35 seconds to login to a Win7 desktop

I am working on building a master image for Window 10 but found logins to be very slow. We are running View 6.2.1 under ESXi 5.5 Update 2.

Here is what I have done

  1. Installed Windows 10, 32 bit, build 1511 which is the latest available for download
  2. Ran Windows updates and installed all available
  3. 1 vCPU and 2GB of RAM. This is the same resources that we use under Win7
  4. Ran the optimization tool found here taking all the defaults
VMware OS Optimization Tool – VMware Labs
  5. Took a snapshot, made a new pool with just 2 desktops
  6. Login times are 1:50, more than a minute longer than Win7. When someone logs in it says "Preparing Windows" then you get the "We're Happy You're Here" followed by a few more messages and finally the desktop appears

I then just went to the vSphere client, got a console session to one of the desktops, logged in (which took 1:50), logged off, and logged back in again, it took about 35 seconds. In other words, logging in the second time cuts login time significantly. Of course a desktop will only realize you have logged in before if it is a persistent desktop. Using a console session in the client to login twice does not refresh the desktop. We use non-persistent desktops so they are refreshed after each log off.

Any ideas how to speed up logins?

Is Windows 10 under View just not a good choice?

Would things improve under ESXi 6.0 Update 2? We are upgrading to the newest version of vSphere in about 2 weeks

Latest status on CAC support for iPad & iPad Pro VMware Clients?

I am looking for the latest status of VMWare support for CAC support on iPadOS and iOS devices.  I saw there was a post back in 2017 stating the Thursby team had been in contact with the VMWare team, but no positive confirmation when CAC support was going to be enabled.  It is now 2020 and much of government is going to telework due to Coronavirus.  I have looked through the settings in the VMWare Horizon Client app and I can’t enable derived credentials and it doesn’t seem to support native CAC support through my Thursby CAC reader (though I can check my email using the Subrosa app so I am certain the iPadOS Pro is configured correctly.  Is there going to be support for CAC on the iPad, iPad Pro, and Android tablets?  If there is a configuration I am missing, please point me, else please make this support a reality.

Green screen when connected with VMware horizon client

I'm currently using VMware horizon client V5.3.0 build-15208953 on a windows 10 Enterprise 10.0.18362 desktop to connect to a virtual desktop. When connecting it asks me if I want to open the VMware Horizon client 32 bit. Since it is the only option shown If have to choose it. It opens fine but when I enlarge the screen it turns green. I can see my desktop but the whole screen is green. When I resize to the original format (it opened in) the screen becomes normal again.

I could not find anything similar on the net regarding this problem, so I think I'm patient zero here. If there is some kind of cure please let me know. I'ts not easy being green....

The SAM database on the windows server does not have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship.

We've just recently moved to a new View 5.2 environment and we've started seeing this error appear in a couple of pools. It doesn't apply to all VM's in the pool, and we can't figure out what is causing the error. View doesn't report any issues during provisioning, nor afterwards. If we check the VM it appears to be joined to the domain. However, if i unjoin it, and rejoin it, i can log in fine after rebooting. Anyone know what might be causing this?

Printing barcode artefacts

Hello to all....

we just started using Horizon and now we facing a strange problem. While users are at home an using a Printer and printing something different as text, like a barcode, they get artefacts on the barcode so badly they could not been scanned. I  attached an example.

While i tested it locally not getting artefacts users who are connected from outside the network are getting these. What could this be?

We are using Horizon 7.11.0 Build 15231595 and Client 5.3.0 Build 15208953: OS is Windows 10 1909 on both sides.

View Client 5.4 and Agent 7.9 Bug with Main Display and Mouse Scrolling

$

0

I'm not sure if VMware monitors this forum or not, but I discovered a bug with View 7.9 around setting the main display and mouse scrolling.  This issue occurs with  a dual monitor setup, if you make your right monitor the Main Display from the Display settings of a Windows 10 laptop.  When connecting to a View desktop, the View Client tool bar should now be at the top of the right monitor, but it's not -- it's on the left side.  In addition to this, if one uses the mouse scroll on the left monitor, it will now scroll whatever happens to be on the right display.  This does not happen if you scroll on the right monitor.

Most people leave the left display as their default, so not surprised if no one else has encountered this.  I didn't start having this problem until upgrading from an older version of View -- don't remember the exact version but it was approximately one year old.  I have only tested this with one WIn10 laptop and one Win10 View VDI session so not sure yet if it's easily reproducible...
