XP 5 minutes+ to logoff (Agent 5.1.2)

$

This one is certainly confusing me!...  We're currently running View 5.01 and things have been running quite well with the 5.0.1 agent.  Time has moved on, improvements and tweaks to the gold image for performance and finally a push away from RDP (had to be used due to legacy issues) meant making sure all the functions worked with PCoIP including accessing locally attached printers.  This is where we're hitting a wierd problem, any agent after 5.0.1 seems to extend the logoff time from 1min 40 to 5minutes or more (recorded 10 once!).

First thoughts were slow networking causing persona sync issues but monitoring the server holding the persona data while logging off showed that not to be the case.  Versions 5.1.0 & 5.1.1 were consistantly around the 1min 40 to logoff which made me think there was a timeout being triggered (unfortunately we couldn't stay with those agents due to the issue with the default printer not showing correctly or at all).  Moved on to 5.1.2 and then the ridiculous 5+minutes started showing up.  Some more digging around is starting to point the finger at Thinprint being to blame as just before windows finishes logging and returns to login prompt the log shows nothing for the previous 5+minutes then thinprint deleting the detected printers.

Eventually we will be aiming to use location based printing or AD assigned printers but as our userbase is a little diverse at the moment and we honestly don't know what they have at each end point Thinprint redirection seems to be our only option.

It's a real pain this one, I've been looking at it every which way and just can't see anything obvious.  Not helped with thinprint not providing any logs (that I've found) and nothing in the event viewer for it shows anything bad.  As a trial I reverted the image I'm testing with to 5.0.1, log offs great printing works fine but the killer was all of a sudden vmware tools is now out of date???  Could there be a service/driver hanging thats taking 300 seconds to timeout?

Thanks!

(Edited subject to relate to version of agent)

Benefits of setting memory reservations in a View environment?

I'm running low on disk space and the questions came up about adding memory reservations to help. What are the pros and cons of setting reservations other than disk space savings?  If I configure a reservation, is the swap file still created?

Hi

i try to run my 0-client with 2 monitors, The guest vm is configured to support 2 screens!

if io connect via PCoIP i'm getting only one screen! in display setting I can see the second one, but i can't activate.

If i connect to the VM via vSphere Console I'm able to activate the second monitor!

So if I connect to the VM with the 0-Client right now, both monitors are active.

If the machine reboots or the user logoff, and I'll reconnect, the second monitor is deactive again!!!! ;-(

whats my problem??

PCoIP clients disconnections during high cpu load

I'm having issues with my View environment, we have 80 clients running Zero clients with PCoIP.

View 5.1 and ESXi 4.1.

What happens is the desktop flickers and goes black and disconnects the session, this happens ~10 times per day (over 80 clients) and I think it always happens when the vCPU is maxed out. At least everything I look the vCPU have been at 100% or close to.

I've been trying to find a solution, but I can't really find anything.

I just extracted logs from on of the cdesktops after it disconnected.

Here are some of the info I found interesting.

A complete set of logs from the vm is attached, it' conly logs from today so they should all be relevant.

If anyone could give me some pointers it would be super helpful.

where is the forum for vmware view? CredentialProvider question UpdateRemoteCredential

I need help getting my users remote credential.

In a normal RDS scenario, Windows gets me my credential via the RDS logon (mstsc) and the credential provider / filter UpdateRemoteCredential

However, with vmware view my credential provider is not called.

Is there a way to get the vmware cred prov (wscredf.dll) to call my provider?  or is it always going to ignore / filter it out?

Is there a better forum for this?

Sorry, first time in.

Thanks

Region and Language To Match Client

$

Hi,

Is it possible to automatically configure a View desktop's regional settings (Keyboard, language etc) to match the client?

For example, we have US users connecting to UK based view desktops.  Right now, they need to manually configure their regional settings to ensure the keyboard mappings are correct.

I know I could maybe configure GPO preferences to change this using say, the IP range they're coming from, but it would be far more elegant if the View client could detect the client machine's language and configure the remote machine accordingly.

Is this possible?

Thanks in advance!

SSL Error on Wyse P20 Thin Client, but not on View client...

I recently setup a local certificate authority to self-sign SSL certs for the view server.  I have everything setup according to the KB articles, and my localCA has issued a certificate to the View server (5.1), and using the View client from my desktop I can connect without issue, with SSL working properly.

However, when I try to connect to the View server using one of the Dell (Wyse) P20 thin clients, I get an error saying that the SSL certificate is invalid, and when I click on the "show certificate" button, all of the information is blank.

I'm at a loss, as the View server is green across the board, and I can connect to my desktop pools using the View client via HTTPS without issue.

Deleted Files returning

Hi

I have a view 5.0 pool with win7 machines.

Each has a Disposable disk and a persistent disk.

When one user delete files (folders on desktop in example), the file comes back when he log off and log on. Sometime even without logging off.

any ideas?

Persona Printing

I'm new to Personas and am in the process of testing a floating Persona pool it so we don't have to have so many staff persistent desktops to manage.

I believe have everything working except for printing.

1.) If I add a network printer as a local printer (by creating a TCP/IP port), nothing sticks and the printer disappears after logging off.

2.) If I add a network printer shared off of a print server by using it's path (i.e. //printeserver/printername) the printer stays, but complains that it doesn't have the appropriate print drivers installed after re-login, although I am thinking of adding the print drivers to the base image to see if that solves this.

However, all of our printers aren't necessarily shared via the print server.  Sooo....

3.) I tried adding a printer as a network printer and connected to it via the printer's IP address.  It installed, and already had the drivers natively in Windows 7, but this printer again disappears after logoff.

So #2 is the only one that I got to stick to the user's Persona....but that will only fix part of the problem since we've got a lot of networked printers that aren't served via our main print server.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?  Should I be trying to setup printers differently?  I'm finding the documentation thin and confusing on this part of Personas.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

VMware View Kiosk Mode - Zero Clients

I have a need to create Kiosk terminals with VMWare View. I have read the documents explaining how to do this. The document explains how to do it with Thin Clients. I want to do it with Zero Clients. I was particuraly thinking about the WYSE P25 zero clients.

Has anyone create kiosks with zero clients?

Thanks,

Persistent Disk Not Retaining Office Toolbar Customizations

$

We are using View 5.1 with roaming profiles. We have been having a tremendous number of issues with the roaming profiles correctly saving app data changes. We are testing the use of persistent disks and all is going well with one exception - Office customizations don't save. What we are experiencing is that a user can make customizations such as a change to a quick access toolbar. We can see the customization get created and written to the D:\ drive; however, when the user logs off, the Office folder that held the customizations gets deleted from the D:\ drive.

Any thooughts are appreciated!

ReRegards,

what are the steps to prepare winxp for creating linked clones

Hi,

I'm new to vmware VDI.

I have installed vmware view 5 evaluation version and configured winxp sp3  as guest os.

As I understand from docs that this machine should be a part of AD domain. It should obtain IP from DHCP server.

However the naming convention can be defined while creating desktop pools. I have installed View Agent in  the guest OS.

Should I copy deploy.cab in my guest os? How does Syspre/Quickpre happen? Does it take care of configuring IP and adding the linked clone to domain?

What are the step to complete before configuring desktop pools.

Thanks in advance.

By creating a pool in 5.1.2 build-928164 not able to select a resource pool

Hello.

I have installed View Connection Server and View Composer and set all properly (according documentation) up. System Health is green.

Now by creating a new pool (Automated Pool, Dedicated, Linked Clone) a get the follow issue. After selecting Cluster I am not able to select a resource pool on that cluster. I have about 10 diffirent resource pool and see only one in the selecting window. Also if I select this one, as path for resource pool is still set /Datacenter/host/Cluster/. And that cloning is each time failed.

What could it be? How can it be fixed?

Thanks!

is it possible to deploy a vdesktop with static ip using view5

Hi,

I have downloaded the evalaution version of view5 and installed all the components viz., vcentre, vcomposer, connection server,.....

I have also configured WinXP SP3 as the guest OS, installed vmware tools, required application and view agent and taken a snapshot. Before creating desktop pool, it is possible to deploy a single clone with static IP to confirm functionality. How to proceed??????

Thanks in advance.

Multiple domain names

A customer wants to use two different Internet names. dom1.int.net and dom2.net.int for connecting to the internal VMware View environment from the Internet.

Is the use of two separate Secuirty Servers in the DMZ area sufficient. Each with its own External URL: address?
For example: if dom1.int.net External URL for a linked Connection Server and dom2.net.int for another separate Connection Server

Hi all,

I have deployed a view desktop through manual pool configuration.

It takes 2 minutes to connect from view client to view desktop (winxp). How can this delay be minimised?
