View 5.0 to 5.1 with agent 4.5

Hi,

In our migration of VIEW infrastructure from 4.5 to 5.1.1, i've done, yesterday, the intermediate migration step, detailed below :

- upgrade our vcenter 4.1 to 5.0

- upgrade our host vpshere ESX 4.1 to ESX 4.1 U3

- upgrade VIEW and VIEW security from 4.5 to 5.0

and now, we have all desktop with view agent 4.5 and client 4.5 and all is working.

Now, for the next step (upgrade view to 5.1.1), i want to know if i can upgrade VIEW to 5.1.1 without any problem with my agent 4.5 because in the documentation and compatibility guide, i've seen agent 4.6 supported in migration process and we need to upgrade ASAP but i don't see anything about view agent 4.5.

Is it the same like view agent 4.6 ?

The documentation doesn't mention this really.

Thanks for your feedback.

I know that if i'm upgrading to VIEW 5.1.1, i need a vcenter 5.1 too.

Thanks !

USB Controller in EDIT settings

Hi,  I'm running Windows XP for my VDI image and I have the "USB Controller" in my hardware settings.  I know that the View agent does the USB controller, so do I need to leave the USB controller in the hardware?  Any advantage or disadvantages?

View support for OSX guests

Are there any plans to add support for OSX desktops in View? We can run OSX guests on ESXi now legally as long as we run the hypervisor on Apple hardware, but we still can't present OSX desktops via VDI. We have many overseas Mac users, so this capability would be very welcome.

I know that the View Client is supported on OSX. Basically, I'm looking for View Agent support in OSX.

View over 2 Datacenters

Hello,

I have the Problem that I want to have a View Installation over two Datacenters.

Between the two DCs the Networklink is not strong enough for shared storage.

So I have to setup two Clusters in vCenter. But in View I can only choose one Cluster per Pool.

The Problem is that at the end I only want to present one View Pool to the Users.

Have anybody experiences with a setup like this?

My idea is to build two Pools and make the loadbalancing on a higher level.

Thanks for your help,

Regards Bastian

VMware View 5 Security Server

Hey guys,

I have a problem with the Security Server. I've installed a Windows Server 2008R2 in the DMZ.
To install the View security server, the Win2k8R2 must be in the domain. This does not work because the server is in the DMZ. How can I get the server to the domain?
Probably I need to open ports ... But wich ports have i to open?
and is not this a security risk to open ports to the DC?
Or is ther a other option?
Best regards

Excluding a domain in the dashboard health check

Greetings,

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but I'll ask anyway just to be sure.

Is there a way to exclude a domain from the health check on the dashboard of the vmware view administrator page?

We have a trust with another "company" which controls their own AD and the firewall between our two companies. This trust is neccesary for some other software however it's pretty tightly screwed shut for other things.

In the dashboard I get an error notice from that domain which reads:

"The trust relationship could not be determined."

"Domain status error detected. View Administrator is unable to perform operations related to domain."

Is there a way to exclude this domain from the health check? If not possible, what rights does view administrator need to let this check turn green?

Kind regards,

Bram

Slow response of Google Chrome and IE within View desktops

$

We run View 5.1 and have around 140 desktops in production use all running Windows 7 Enterprise 64BIT.

Recently we have been encountering issues with web browsing within Chrome or IE8/9, if we run the web browser maximised then it becomes very laggy, typing takes a few seconds to appear on the screen and browsing is slow, but when you run the browser windowed the performance is fine.

Other applications continue to function as normal so this isn't the performance of the machine that is an issue, it appears to be something that just affects Google Chrome and IE.

I have monitored the machines when they are seeing this issue using the vSphere client and there is no major load on the clients.

Has anyone else experienced this or similar?

If any more information is required to help please let me know.

Thanks,

Matt

Mouse Cursor issues with Windows 7

I have a client who is telling me that they are having issues with the mouse cursor in View. They are running View 5.0 with Windows 7 32+64bit Pools. The issue has been reported in both. I have included a photo of what they are telling me is happening. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and possibly has a solution. As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.

How to get the VMware View Client (or the Thin Client) IP address

$

Hi all,

I would like to know how to get the IP address of the thin client (or whatever access client) used to connect to View Connection server.

I know after the user connect to the VM we can get the IP from the VM registry; but my question here is if the user put wrong password and connection server failed to authenticate user' credential in AD then how can i get information about thin client from which this wrong trial happen? in other words is there any way to get client information (IP address) of all the thin client connected to connection server (before connect to VM)??

The reason of this i have user account getting locked out frequently; and in AD events i get only the connection server IP as a source of this failed trial; it is a big problem for me (and all administrators i think) if connection server only send his IP address to AD during the authentication instead of the actual IP of the source thin client.

Many thanks in advance......

Portrait display mode on Windows 7 VPC

I have successfully rotated a zero client (Wyse P25) to display in potrait mode on a 52" LCD.  But upon logging into the VM / Windows 7 client, I get booted off back to the logon screen. We're running VMView 5.0 and the driver I'm using on the Windows 7 64-bit guest is VMware SVGA 3D version 7.14.1.1061

Figuring it might be configuration issue within Windows 7 itself.  I tried going through disply setting to rotate it manually, but that option is NOT available.  Does anyone know if there a way to force the display setting at the VM level to display in portrait mode?  Is it a driver limitation within the VMware video driver?  Has anyone been successful in displaying VM's in potrait modes on Window's 7 using Zero / Thin clients?

Thanks!

Im on a Mac book PRO with 16 GB of memory and I have Fusion installed.   I'm running a Windows 7 VM, and in this VM I have workstation 9. I also have an ESXi host, with a DC, connection server and a windows XP VM. I created a Manual pool on my connection server and I'm able to connect to my XP machine via my win 7 View client.  When I try to connect to this same XP machine via my View MAC client I get the HTTP 400 error? View 5.1.2 - Persona management redirection to NetApp CIFS share not working

$

Hi all, I hope someone can help here.

Brand new environment. View 5.1.2. Works fine. Images all OK.

However I'm trying to redirect the Persona profiles to a NetApp CIFS share. I have tried the exact same image to a windows share and there is nothing wrong, Persona redirection / updating works fine.

I am using the same permissions on the NetApp filer, I have even tried full control ntfs / share permissions. ONTAP 8.1.2 7 Mode so it is running the latest release. The folder structure gets synced, things like favourites and outlook pst file gets synced, but i I create any type of document, txt, word, excel, jpg in any folder they just don't sync at all. Its very strange. I can manually browse to the sharepath and create files, however they dont get sync'ed back. Permissions on the files seem ok. user has full control. Same for admin user as well.

Has anyone had any experience on getting this working on NetApp CIFS volumes? maybe an option I need to set maybe on the filer?

HTTP error 503 View Conneciton Server

I'm getting HTTP error 503 while trying to connect to the view connection server through the view client.  Anyone have any idea on what might cause this.  It was working fine for months, no upgrades or patches were done on the connection server.  Internal users have no problem connecting, it's just external users.
