Created a cloned composer farm.  Server 2016.  Added 3 applications on Pool.  Showing as red exclamation with Unavailable.  More information shows as : The application is missing on all RDS hosts.

2 are Meditech and 1 is a url to an web based application.  Log onto client and icons show as generic and applications do open.   Is there a work around for these types of Manual add-ons without displaying as an error?

file extensions:

Thanks for any solutions.

Can't detach persistent disk

I have just been mucking about with persistent disks in view 4.5 and have got into a bit of a pickle!

I was attempting to simulate a rebuild of a desktop so detached the users persistent disk and then clicked the recreate desktop option in detached disks. This operation failed with a cloning error "Provisioning error occurred for Machine DLC-XP-3: Cloning failed for Machine"

Even though the task failed the unattached disk is now showing under the attached tab. When trying to detach it I get the following error:

You cannot remove the primary data disk until all the secondary disks have been detached from the VM

I'm now stuck with this entry in the attached tab, there is no VM for it as it failed to create it. Looks like I need to flush this out from the database somehow or possibly look into a command line option.

Has anyone experienced this before? I have attached a screenshot to help explain it better.

Is it possible to disable this from running at logon?  It adds too long of a delay at logon.  I've tried to simply disable the service but it still runs and I can't find where it's spawning from.  Tks.

UAG Blast - Failed to resolve proxying route for request

Hello,

We have had UAG running for a while and it works fine using the full client but there has been a recent requirement for HTML Blast access for external users which does not work fine.

It's been enabled for a while as far as I'm concerned but we never tested it. Authentication works fine and users can see and select their desktop pool, it then takes them to a screen saying "Failed to resolve proxying route for request".

I have downloaded to log bundle but it's not revelaing very much at all. The last entry in the esmanager.log file says "Accessing virtual/rdsh desktop using protocol BLAST with ipAddress x.x.x.x (the connection server). The BG log file really doesn't say anything of note.

HTML access works fine internally if not using the UAG and there are no drops of any traffic on the firewalls. I do have a load balancer in place but I am bypassing that for now and just pointing at a single connection server, it makes no difference though.

Cheers.

CTRL-ALT-DEL appears some times on View 4.5 Desktop

Most of the time, when our users go into a pool using either the View client or a Zero client device, when they connect to the pool they are automatically logged in and get to the desktop. Occasionally, not very often and with no consistency I can detect, the login process will instead show the user the standard Windows 7 CTRL-ALT-DEL screen.  Once they do CAD, they are logged on automatically with no other input required from them. Mostly everything works OK.  I have seen at least once instance where the user had to hit CAD and while they got to the desktop OK, the Thin Print GPO failed to run and failed to map their printer to the zero client device. Logging out and back in again, the user this time was NOT prompted for CAD and logged in normally and the GPO did it's thing as well. I see the same thing happen in my lab concerning the CAD.  I have a small three desktop pool in my lab and at least once a day in my testing I'll have to do CAD and then the next time will not. In both lab and production I have the pools set to log the user out immediately and to refresh the desktop.  Any thoughts?

users that will be accessing the application pools within a domain should be joined first in the vCenter server?

Or the domain can only be added to the connection servers regardless of the vCenter server domain?

Cloud Pod Architecture

I have one site:

1 vcenter

1 connection server

3 hosts

If I will create another site to form a cloud pod architecture,:

1. does my connection server in my 2nd site should be connected to my vcenter in site 1 or should be a new vcenter server?

2. Can I do a cloud pod architecture in with all sites are in 1 domain and in the same layer 2 ip range and subnet?

3. related to question 1, if connection server in site 2 will be connected to vcenter in site 1, can i also manage the hosts in site 2 using vcenter in site 1 but in a different cluster?

4. site 1 will have 50 rds license for 50 users, in case site 1 goes down. can site 2 be able to handle the 50 users? does it mean that i have to license the rds hosts in site 2 for additional 50 to make it a total of 100 rds licenses? how can i sync my rds hosts in site 1 to site 2?

thanks!

Windows 10 Desktops Agent Unreacheable

$

I have had a ticket open with VMware since February regarding this issue. We have a newly created Windows 10 image for use with 2 automated pools (M10 and M60). On a daily basis, half of the m10 pools desktops will be in an agent unreacheable state. When this happens a user logging in will see a message "desktops are currently not responding". The desktops in question will have correct IP addresses, but are not pingable or self assigned IPs. The agent version is 7.0.3 on both pools. Turned off firwalls, issue persists.

Some additional details:

1. The issue only happens on these 2 pools and a set of 3 Grid servers with dedicated graphics (so when this issue happens we cannot see the desktops through vsphere). The issue is not with every desktop, we may have 4 available and then have 4 agent unreachable machines.

2. A little over a month ago we disabled apipa and the found that the machines that would get self assigned ips now get ip v6 addresses.

3. If we keep deleting machines, upwards of 10, we can get a set that are all available, but they will eventually come back as users log off.

4. Here is another new thing that has become noticeable within the past month. Sometimes machines will have correct ips (ones that are on the the correct vlan), but when pinging the machine name, I get a different IP. When I check dhcp, the machine will sometimes have the same ip showing in vsphere and other times the ip cannot be found anywhere in our split scope linked to that machine. Again, we have 4 other pools that are win 7 and on different servers that don't have any of these issues at all.

5. We created a new windows 10 pool and the issue occurs with that pool as well.

Our dhcp has plenty of ip addresses available. We have our DNS set to scavage every 8 hours (on one server in the scope). Any hints on any other places we can look? At this point, I'm willing to dismantle anything.

replace horizon security server ssl

I am in a situation of taking over a pre-installed Horizon View environment. I have rebuilt the RDS hosts, replaced all SSL certs for the Connection servers with a newly updated Godaddy public cert and all that is left is the virtual security server running on the same instance as the public connection host used for the SSL acceptance traffic. I am struggling on the Security server portion, I have the SSL bound to the correct certificate store, named VDM, etc., this all works perfectly, I only need a guide to replace the actual security cert. We are running Horizon View 6.1.1 with MS RDS hosts using PCoIP and View to access the farms.

VMware view connection servers slow

HI All,

We’ve observed inconsistency in data in view horizon console from the connection server USVMwareview1.

The link https://vmware view1/admin takes a lot of time to load and refresh data after logging in.

The data on connecting to horizon console from rest of the connection servers is consistent and loading and refreshing of data is also normal on them.

VMware View version 5.2

Any help on this issues much appreciated

Agent Unreachable After User Attempt to Connect Fails

$

We have Horizon View 7.1, and are using Windows 7 VMs, and are having issues with some of the agents going agent unreachable.  Basically what happens is occasionally a user will try to log in and the desktop will launch but the screen will be black for about 15 seconds and then the session will just close.  The user then typically tries to relaunch the desktop which then fails with an error that they are already connected to a session.  On the View administration side the desktop will actually show as the user is connected, but they obviously aren't.  Then after about 5-10 minutes the desktop will go agent unreachable.  If we restart the View Agent and the VMware Blast service on the desktop typically it will come back and the user could reconnect to it.

Anyone have any ideas as to what might cause this?  We have a ticket open with VMware for about a month now, but haven't really gotten anywhere on it so I'm hoping someone has some ideas.

user unable to login, "display protocol for this desktop is not available"

$

I'm starting to get reports of this more and more in my view environment. Users are logging in from Wyse P20 zero clients. The error message the end user receives is "display protocol for this desktop is unavailable" however, via view manager the desktop does not report as being unavailable. The state of the desktop is usually "disconnected."

If I take a look at the events for the desktop this is what I see:

Unable to launch from Pool Partners for user domain\user: There were no machines available that reported protocol [PCOIP] as ready.

Any insight would be appreciated as this is really starting to frustrate my users.

Thanks in advance!

Horizon View 6 - Persona Management - Folder Redirection and Roaming & Synchronization

I'm having a quirky issue with the PMView.  This is what I see:

- Log as test user with Horizon View client (1st time)

- View Desktop loads Windows, and shows desktop (30-45 seconds)

(During this step, I see the profile and redirected folders are created correctly)

- Log off test user

- Log back in with the same test user (2nd time)

- View Desktop loads Windows, shows the "Welcome" screen, and then a black screen.

(During this step, I see the profile repository get "recreated" (i.e., the folders/files get deleted, and then recreated...))

- After 1-2 minutes later, the desktop shows up

This seems like an odd behavior to me, and it's probably related to how I've created my PMview.

This is what I have:

Horizon 6.2 ThinPrint Redirection behavior change breaks certain PDF printers or XPS Document Writer

$

0

To all,

I have an Horizon 6.2 deployment on one of our environments, and lately have seen issues due to change in ThinPrint redirection behavior. Prior to 6.2, printers that were redirected from the local client via ThinPrint were appended with :1, :2, and so forth to prevent conflicts with the printers that are installed on the virtual desktop. However, starting from version 6.2, ThinPrint will redirect the local client's printers to the virtual desktop with the exact name specified in the printer object. This has caused numerous issues on our end, mainly related to PDF printer driver (Bullzip PDF, ABS PDF printer from QuickBooks, XPS Document Writer):

1. For QuickBooks print to pdf function to work, both ABS PDF printer object and XPS Document Writer object must be installed for it to work. However, when a user connects to the virtual desktop with a client that has QuickBooks installed locally on their client desktop, ThinPrint will overwrite those printer objects with the redirected one, which will cause those printers to cease to function correctly since ThinPrint redirection does not support file-based printers. When user logs off, ThinPrint will delete those printer objects permanently, which will require a reinstall of those printer objects on the virtual desktop, even for non-persistent desktops if user data is persisted (e.g. Writable Volumes UIA+Profile from App Volumes).

2. Similarly, if the user has PDF printer (e.g. Bullzip) installed, or XPS Document Writer installed (which is installed by default on every Windows 7/8/8.1/10 desktop), on their client machine, and attempts to connect to the virtual desktop that has the same Bullzip/XPS Document Writer installed, ThinPrint redirection component will delete the Bullzip/XPS object, requiring a re-install of those printer objects. Since QuickBooks PDF printer requires XPS Document Writer to function, this also breaks the QuickBooks PDF printing functionality.

This has caused a fair amount of headache from us, and I would like to know if we can revert the ThinPrint redirection behavior back to the prior release. I really don't want to disable ThinPrint altogether as certain users want the ability to print from their home printer. Plus, the KB article on disabling ThinPrint (https://kb.vmware.com/kb/1031688, https://kb.vmware.com/kb/2012770, https://kb.vmware.com/kb/2003626) from the client side does not work at all.

Recursive Unlock Feature Requirements

Does anyone know the exact requirements of the recursive unlock feature that is part of the 4.5 View Client?  And by this I mean do you need the 4.5 View Client, Connection Servers at 7.2 and Agent at 7.2?  Is it possible to use this feature with any one of those pieces not at the latest level?

Horizon Lifecycle

Hey,

according to the VMware Lifecycle Product Matrix (https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/support/product-lifecycle-matrix.pdf ) End of General support for Horizon 7.x is end of March 2021. But I fail to understand what this means for my environment exactly. Which version of 7.x is actually supported? Can I just stay on 7.0.2 until then and if there is any issue, VMware support will provide me with a fix? Or do I need to update to the latest 7.x, which is 7.2 at the moment? What about major bugs discovered; will they ever be released as some kind of service pack for my 7.0.2 environment?

Thanks a lot!
