Is there a way to change the session timeout for View Manager Administrator Console?

Thanks,

VMware View 7.0.2 Linux (Ubuntu 16.04)

Hello i am having issues with the View servers not pinning a user to a desktop in the pool.

I have created a desktop pool with attributes: Automated. vCenter VMs, Dedicated.

But when i add an entitlement to a user or a group to the desktop pool i get a desktop but its not sticky, and in the inventory the client always is available.

So when i do a reboot of the client i got  and try to access the desktop before its back up again i get a different desktop ( not static )

So it seems like the agent cannot say to the connection server make the desktop static for this user.

Kind Regards: Kristian

New RSA4096/SHA256 certificate ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH

Hi,

I had to replace my VMware View Certificate because the old one just expired. I went for RSA4096/SHA256 signed by WoSign for free. After installing the certificate I get ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH in Chrome (other browsers don't work as well).

Debug log shows:

[KeyVaultKeyStore] (NetHandler) Failed to get certificate chain for: "vdm"

I already imported intermediate and root certificate. Also tried exporting the whole chain and reimporting .pfx with no success. If I go back to the old certificate I can get a SSL handshake (but of course expired).

Environment:

Windows 2012R2

View 6.2

RSA4096

SHA256

WoSign CA and Intermediate

Thanks for any help

Update: According to Java Cryptography Architecture Oracle ProvidersDocumentation SHA256 is not supported by SunJSSE which is used as the SSL Provider by VMware View. Can anybody confirm or disprove this?

Can't Uninstall Applications through Horizon View Client

I have a test network where we've installed Active Directory, DNS and Horizon View 7.

I'm able to create a desktop pool, add a Virtual Machine to the pool and assign a user.

When I log into the VM through Horizon View I can open things as administrator, and perform some other administrative tasks.

However, when I try to uninstall a program I get the following:

"Error 1730. You must be an administrator to remove this application. To remove this application you can log on as an administrator, or contact your technical support group for assistance."

Any ideas why I have some administrative privileges but not others?

Rebalance replica view between two different storage

Hello,

I have a question to ask.

I have an infrastructure based on vmware horizon view 6.2.

The version of is vSphere 5.1 u3.

The server model is hp proliant BL460 Gen8.

As storage I'm using a hp p2000g3 sas  and  sas switches .

Because I want to migrate everything to vsphere 6 I have to change the storage because  the p2000g3 sas it is not certified by vsphere 6.

I have bought a new c30000 with 8 new blades.

I bought a 3PAR 8200 fc.

The new blades are proliant bl460c Gen9 with fc switches.

As the old servers (Gen8) can not see the new storage and vice versa I can make the replica migration (rebalance) without downtime?

In practice, the rebalance can be made through the network as storage vmotion?

thank you

Greetings

Horizon 7 :View Composer DiskFault: Disk customization failed due to an internal error

I have found information all around the web for the "View Composer DiskFault: Disk customization failed due to an internal error" problem; however, they all say it is corrected in 6.2.  I am getting this problem in 7.0, any ideas?

I had it working in a small isolated setup a couple of weeks ago, including a dedicated AD; however this week I am trying to integrate the Composer and the Connection servers into a larger environment, including a very structured AD and fighting this problem.  My thought is possibly a permissions problem, but I've set up the permissions as outlined in the Installation guide.

Thanks

ICMP Traffic from View Client to View Connection Server & Desktop

$

I noticed that when users connect into View that there is a lot of ICMP Traffic from the View Client host to the View Connection Server & VDI desktop.  I have ICMP blocked for any external users coming in so I see lot of these deny attempts in my logs.  I've checked the VMware documentation and can't find anything talking about needing to allow ICMP.

So I guess I'm wondering why the View client is trying to do this, and what is the purpose?  Am I hurting anything by blocking this ICMP traffic?

Is it possible to allow users to keep their desktop icons settings with linked clones? The base image has a set that overwrites whatever the users have added or whatever they delete when we re-compose.

Installing Horizon View Agent breaks other software

I have a VM running some proprietary software I'll call softwareX. When I install Horizon View agent softwareX won't open.

I spent some time uninstalling/reinstalling softwareX and making a number of other changes to the registry and group policy settings on the active directory server.

Eventually, I got the software to work again, but among all the things I did I can't pinpoint what actually fixed it.

I really want to be able to get to the core of the problem. Is there anywhere where I can find a comprehensive list of what Horizon View Agent does to my system when it's installed? The changes it might make that I'm looking for are: UAC changes, core registry changes, firewall settings, things that would have an effect on SQL databases, etc.

Users not logged off

Hi all,

We have setup a floating pool with the policy of refreshing the desktop immediately after disconnect.  However users are not always being logged off properly and are still showing as an active session after disconnect.

This causes issues when the user tries to log on to a new session, we have to force log off from the admin console.

Also a setting to forcibly disconnect users after 12 hours is set, but we can have sessions connected for up to 2 days, this should not happen?

Thanks,

James.

View session not logging off properly after 10 hour timeout

We are a K-12 school district and nearly every day we have students that do not log off their View session by going to the Windows Start menu and choosing logoff. Normally this is no big deal. We have View setup with a 10 hour timeout so overnight these sessions are normally logged out and the desktop is refreshed. Over the past 6 weeks we have had these desktop try to log off after the 10 hour timeout and get stuck. When we look at them in the vSphere Console they say Logging Off on the screen. We have been running View for nearly three years and have never seen this until recently.

Any ideas?

PCOIP disconnect/reconnect issues - VMware View 6.1

Our vdi users are having complains that, when working on their Windows 7 x64 vdi (dedicated), they sometimes get spontaniously disconnected and can't reconnect to their vdi. Only if we reboot/reset the vdi or if the users waits for some minutes.

I also had the same problems last saturday (10-01) on many occassions.

My Windows 7 vdi got disconnected and when i try to reconnect i get only a black screen and the message that the remote connection to the computer has timed out.

Sometimes i had to wait around 10 minutes before i could reconnect again.

In the pcoip logfiles on my vdi i see such messages:

Can someone tell me how to troubleshoot these strange vdi connection issues?

I can add some of the full logfiles if that is useful , but the whole zip log bundle is around 700MB

In the View Admin console, global settings we use this:

Forcibly disconnect users: 720 minutes

Discard SSO credentials: After 15 minutes

Ctrl-Alt-Del "secure attention sequence" screen requires clicking on user tile.

$

0

On our active directory domain joined golden image with default credential providers, when a user resumes from screen saver or unlocks the screen, they are immediately presented with a field to type their password.

Once that computer has been turned into a linked clone, the VMWare agent installs a new credential provider and filter that presents an additional screen during the unlock sequence that requires a user to click on their user tile/icon. This step seems unnecessary and given that we are not using VMWare Workspace we are wondering if anything would break if we revert to the standard windows credential provider via a post recompose script?

Update:

I set a dword key pair Disabled=1 in the filter and provider GUID's and that prevented the VMWare Client initial logon from passing credentials to the guest, Had to enter credentials manually after clicking on a "Other User" tile. However, that did prevent the user tile from showing up during subsequent Ctrl-Alt-Del unlocks. Disabling the provider appears to not be a solution. Plus the provider dll probably fires off other important actions besides passing credentials.

End Update

Why is this additional tile screen needed? Will there be a future agent release that makes it optional? We want a transition for our users to be seamless and not require unnecessary tile clicking.

VMWare provider dll:

Update 1/6/14:

I found that after logging in from the View Client, if you set the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\SessionData\1\LastLoggedOnProvider = {6F45DC1E-5384-457A-BC13-2CD81B0D28ED} and copy the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\SessionData\1\LoggedOnSAMUser to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\SessionData\1\LoggedOnUsername, on subsequent unlocks and reconnects, that extra tile screen can be bypassed. Now if VMware could just reproduce that with some work by the agent!

VMWare Horizon Client 4.x.x: Multimonitor problem with VIA chip

We used to use Horizon client 3.5.2, it worked fine. After we updated to Horizon client 4.xx(have tried 4.0.1, 4.1.0, 4.2.0), all these versions have the same issue as follows:

If you try to connect a Horizon server with a computer with Horizon 4.x on, which has dual monitors and using VIA chip, after you used any of applications from the server, the connection window will become black, you can still move it, but you can see nothing on it.

However it works fine with single Monitor. Also tried with Computer with Intel chip on, there is no such Problems.

Don't know if this is a bug or an known issue, but we are looking for a solution for it. It will be very appreciated, if someone here can give some advices.

i am trying to get an idea of how to have a redundant solution for my Horizon Connection Servers.

Is this solution supposed to go behind a load balancer like an F5?

Does it come w/ its own built in loadbalancing solution?  I remember Microsoft had a software based solution like this.

I am wondering mostly becauase our entire network is secured w/ a firewall on each vlan.  I just complted a 1 Connection Server solution, now i have to duplicate all the firewall requests.  UHHHHHHggghhh.....
