upgrade view vcenter 5.1 to 6.0

$

Hey Guys,

I have a client that i need to upgrade their view vcenter from 5.1 to 6.0. Ive found couple of articles but its not helping.

Environment:

3 hosts

1 vm for (vcenter/composer)

2 vms for (connections)

1 vm for (security)

100 desktops in production

Q1) can i just upgrade the vcenter and composer at the same time without downtime?

Q2) do i have to upgrade the ESXI hosts to 6.0 as well or i can leave it at 5.1?

Q3) do i have to upgrade the connections and security after the vcenter/composer upgrade?

Q4) do i need to upgrade my licenses for horizon view or i can use the same version license?

Im using the embedded database.

Thank you everyone.

vSGA poor performance or misconfigured

Hi

On a Dell VRTX with a AMD W7000 GPU installed, we use a Dell M630 server for vSphere 6.0 u2 and Horizon View 7.0.1.

We created two pools.

Pool A:

  • with 3D Renderer: Hardware.

Pool B:

  • with 3D Renderer: disabled

We used HTML5 fish bowl to test both pools.

Desktops on pool B have better fps that desktops on pool A.

Both pools shows VMware SVGA 3D as display adapters:

Selección_036.png

GPU seems installed correctly

Selección_046.png

"vSGA" and "SVGA 3D" use VMware tools drivers. Must I expect to see vSGA on "Windows Device Manager"?

We want to use a shared vSGA configuration. No vDGA are needed.

Best regards,

VMware Horizon 7.0.1 With Eindows Ent 1607 Build 14393. Camera not working

Hi,

We are running a trial for VMware Horizon 7 with the latest build of Windows 10 Ent 1607. We could not get the camera to work at all. Even with USB redirection turned on, the camera itself shows up and the drivers are installed, but the Video is Blank (Black). If we use the default VMware Video, we get a grey screen.

After trying for hours to figure out the issue, we ran another test with the 1511 build and the camera works fine using the VMware Audio video feature without the need for USB redirection.

Any one faced this issue?

Lance.

Topaz USB Signature Pad LBK766SE-BBSB-R with USB to Serial Emulation Random Disconnects of COM9 emulated port on Horizon View 6

Interesting problem taxing me, and appreciate community input.

We are utilizing the above Topaz Signature pad model, in a Horizon VDI, utilizing PCoIP and Linked clones, to mostly thin client devices.

The Topaz device in question has an integrated "USB to Serial" converter, where it builds its own COM9 port for all communication with the device.

Seemingly randomly, these devices will lose connection with the View session.  You can see that the hardware (indicates) it has physically lost contact with the vmware horizon server, and then if unplugged, and replugged, see when that communication resumes.  It doesn't always resume cleanly though, and often, the VDI session has to be cycled to work with the device properly, again.  You'll see it in the log, re-enumerate from 0x70 to 0x80.

Doing some reading, I've eliminated a suspicion that it might be pulling too much power, as it is USB powered, and with settings, have metered it down to only using .19 AMPS steady - which is nothing, really.

I have also seen where horizon uses port 32111 for the USB passthrough on horizon, and that a QOS rule in place can help with hiccups.  We aren't seeing the issue with ANY other USB device, just these Topaz USB to COM signature pad devices.

I have suggested to this customer, implementing the 32111 QOS rule, and they don't want to prioritize the traffic.

Appreciate any ideas or guidance.  I don't have much visibility of the horizon environment, and can only offer suggestion as it's not one we manage.  The problem is sparatic at best, with the only cataylst seemingly being that it occurs more frequently when a VDI has been left for a lunch break - and even then, not with consistency.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Has anyone upgraded to Horizon View 7?

Wondering if anyone has updated to Horizon View 7?  Are there major differences?  I am currently running 6.1.1 and debating on updating to 6.2.2 or if I should just go to 7.

Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi

Please provide the answers for the below :

1. Can VMware view horizon client (3.0 version) be run as a Virtualized app (Citrix Xenapp, VMWare ThinApp, Microsoft AppV) ? is it vendor supported ? If no then does a later version exist or will be supported in future ?

2. Can VMware view horizon client (3.0 version) be run in a locally hosted VM ?

3. VMware view horizon client  3.0 is not supported on windows 10. Support starts from version 3.5 and latest is 4.1.0 ? please confirm ?

forced to provide RSA 2FA creds TWICE when load balancing via F5

I'm testing out load balancing via an F5 (not with an iApp, just super basic F5 config) and it's working. but I am finding that when i first connect with my client i have to provide 2FA, then i get a list of VM's, then when i select a VM to connect to i get prompted for 2FA credentials a second time. i also have to wait for the passcode to change before inputting it on this second prompt, otherwise i get Access Denied. Has anyone seen this or know how to fix it? i googled around and found nothing in F5 nor View documents. once i provide the second credentials, i can connect just fine.

Dear all,

one of my staff said she could not connect her desktop vm22 and the view client said "the view agent reports that this desktop source is unable to accept connections". my view administrator displays that “the pending session on machine xx for user xxx has been expired” . but i then assigned another user to the same desktop, everything looks fine.

background:

1. I am using view 6.0.

2. This user used to assigned another desktop vm06. it took a long long time (more than 30 minutes) to login (agent set not delete local persona) , This Morning when she tried to connect(already logged in before, here just reconnect),  she got "there is no available gateway for this display protocol". So i assigned her to another desktop vm22

Is there something wrong with this user account or something else. Need your help!!! Thanks in advance!

Horizon View Windows Mobile 10 client login problem

Hi,

I just installed the new Horizon View Windows Mobile 10 client (so happy to see this !!!), but unfortunately I can't login to our infrastructure.

We are using 2 factor authentication using a radius server. But when I configure our server address it automatically asks for RSA SecurID username and passcode.

How can I change the authentication method so I can use the 2-factor/Radius configuration?

Thank you in advance

Good Morning,

I have a few pools that when recomposed with new 7.0 agent, they are getting stuck in the customizing state.  The odd part is when i go look at teh desktop it shows it powered off.  Once i manually power it on it finishes the customize state and then becomes available.  Any ideas what's going on since the upgrade??  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks

2-Factor and Horizon Client for W10 UWP

We have a Horizon 7 deployment utilizing 2-factor authentication via Radius.  When we attempt to logon using the new UWP app we get prompted for an RSA login and an error message saying "Unsupported Authentication Type".  We do not use RSA.  Is it just too early in the beta for this to be supported?

USB redirection bloomberg keyboard 2013

Hi all,

for several clients we are managing a VDI environment with the 'old' big white keyboards the fingerprint reader redirection was working properly.

Bloomberg is currently providing new keyboards to there clients which are black (also the VID_PID id changed)

With all the default policy they keyboard functionality works naturally however the fingerprint does not, and it almost looks like if my policies don't work. (screenshots below) the policy works it is more as if the vmware agent doesn't uses these settings.

  • Vmware view server: 6.1.1 build-2769403
  • OS. windows 7 x64
  • Agent version: 6.1.1 (I can upgrade this one if needed)

Thin clients:

  • Windows based Wyse Z90S7 (primary test TC)
    • VMware horizon client 3.5.2.30397
  • and also Wyse D50D

Attached is my policy for the Wyse windows thin client (gpo bloom.PNG)

But also the gpo results where is shown that the settings are there (gpo result bloom.PNG)

the relevant part of the  logfile on the same thin client looks like this:

My guess is that the hid device (interface 2) is the fingerprint reader which i would like to forward to the device.

VMware Horizon Client closes after locking the workstation

Hi,

I work within a corporate environment and I user VMware Horizon Client 3.5.2 to connect to my VDI at my company's site (I work as a contractor). I use Windows 7 Enterprise 6.1.7601 and connect via RDP

The issue is that every time when I establish a connection to my VDI and lock my physical workstation, the WMware client closes and I need to log in again.

Is there any way to prevent this from occurring? In other words, is there a way to lock my physical workstation and have an existing WMware session established when I unlock my PC?

CPU peaks on Horizon View enviroment

Hello community,

we are sometimes having cpu peaks in our VDI environment (6.2.2 with VMware persona enabled).

As example a user is printing pdf files from his mail client and the VM is getting slower and slower also the status of VM Tools sometimes is going into state Not Running.

The Linked Clone clients are all Win7 64Bit with 2vCPU and 3GB vRAM.

Maybe someone had a problem like this?

Thank you for some information here.

Best solution for Cross vCenter Parent image sharing/replicating ( Cloud Pod architecture Horizon 7 )?

$

Hi guys

I am doing a Cloud Pod Architecture for DR purposes with  2 vCentres/cloud pods  A and B , trying to share Link Parents from A to B , I don't mind replicating them all over to B if I have a good method,

These vCenters are on the same LAN and network ,

I was looking at Content libraries but this seems a lot of admin as I have 30 Link parents, and content libraries only works with templates, so i'd have to convert to a template to transfer, then out of the template again to recompose/make the DR Pool

I guess Veeam is an option ?

Or is there a way that I can make my cloud Pod B see the link parents in A ? vCenter linked mode perhaps?

Bit confused by this and hoping I don't have to go through the content libraries method ,

Teradici Zero (Dell P25) USB Printer Issues

$

I am experiencing an issue where print jobs submitted on Horizon View Windows 7 SP1 virtual desktops to USB connected printers fail part of the way through the print job.  For instance, 15 pages of a 25 page PDF document may print before showing an error in Windows.  The USB printers are two different HP models.  The endpoints are Dell P25's.  We have tested the P25s with all firmware versions from 4.5 through 5.0.2 and the issue persists.  The Horizon View Agents we have tried are 6.1.1 and 6.2.2 (ThinPrint components disabled - USB redirection only).

The only entry of possible relevance we have seen on the P25 logs (with USB enhanced logging enabled) is:

[meta sequenceId="24794"]2016-03-08T17:21:01.90Z RC:0 URBOIP:process_request_cancel Calling transfer abort for URB req 0x3a8

(the time stamp on this log entry does not match the Agent log entries below because they are not from the same error instance)

We only started experiencing this issue after we swapped out Windows ThinPC repurposed PC endpoints with the P25s.

We do see the following in the VMWare View Agent logs on the virtual desktops:

Persistent Disk Management, View 5.2

We have an environment with over 500 desktops using persistent disks. These disks are 2gb in size and we regularly get calls about them getting full. Users always wait until it's full to the brim and causing them issues before alerting us, often times not even allowing a level 1 tech to remote in to assist it's so bad/full. I've already deployed scripts that run on log on to clear out temporary internet files and other temp files. However, we still get these issues because of programs like DropBox, Google Chrome, Google Drive, Snag-it, miss-configured outlook OST files, and several other apps that can grow over time.

I've been trying to find some sort of method of monitoring these disks, whether it be somewhere we can go look and sort the desktops by most used space, or just be alerted when a users persistent disk reaches say 90% full. I just to do preventative maintenance to avoid frustrations for our users and help desk. And if there are other ideas, or forum posts I was not able to find, I'd love to see them too.

Thanks for any input you guys can provide!

yes we are out of date. but it looks like the VMware view client breaks after this latest round of patches.

now when you try and connect to the server i get the error

"the view connection server connection failed. network error. contact your network administrator"

I'm thinking windows changed some sort of SSL option and rejected the connection.

Any idea's?
