View Disposable Disks, Needed in a floating environment?

Is there any advantage to having the disposable disks in a floating environment that rebuilds after every user logs off?  Simply having the floating disks adds significant overhead to my storage needs.

View client for chromebook

Is there a timeline for a view client with pcoip support for the chromebook (chromeos)?  I know there is the HTML5 one from Ericom but it does not support pcoip and has separate licensing fees whereas I would assume vmware's client would be free like it is for all other platforms.  There are articles out there saying vmware and citrix are both bringing their software to the chromebook but they're scarce on any details.

Checking PCoIP secure gateway on VCS breaks view

I am trying to get my VCS 5.1 to work with a new view security server that I have setup.  I was running view on a secuirty server with a self-signed certificate but I bought a ligit cert and added it to a new security server.  I added this new security server with a public IP address and I am using NAT on my firewall.  I have all ports open on the firewall and the only firewall running is on the VCS and Security server.  When the PCoIP Secure Gateway box is checked on my view connection server, I can no longer connect to any view sessions. If I uncheck the box, I can connect using a different security server that I setup for internal use only. (using a self signed cert)  I have read alot of discussions but I am still stumped.  Do I need a second VCS?  One for only the public connections and one for the internal connections?  I was planning on having 1 VCS and 2 VSS.

I referenced this doc already in troubleshooting:

Thanks in advance.

VMWARE View administration Level Of Effort LOE ratio

Greetings,

Currently working on trying to define a team structure that would be required to manage VIEW intitially with 200 desktops and growing from there.

Does anyone have any kind of LOE or recomended team structure information?

At a minimum am looking for the number of administrators LOE to mange the VIEW enviroment assuming that all the underlying hardware is already being managed by another team.   When I look around it look like roughtly one Admin to between 295 and  426 sessions.

What is your experience?

Thanks!

I have a VDI setup with 125 users.

I have 2 hosts with AMD Optron Process - 16 CPUs with 2.29 GHZ

Memory is 256 GB RAM.

I have 2 pools allocation , 2GB and 3GB.

As such there are no performance problems , but many users who are heavy users complain of a slw performance when they toggle between application.

They change their window from Outlook to Excel , pdf, SAP client etc.

The file server data is on SATA disk.

Please suggest.

View Client SSL Error

Horizon View 5.2

View Client 5.3

I have HAProxy acting as a load balancer for 2 Connection Servers. (it's the SUSE appliance provided by Josh Townsend @ vmtoday.com)

The Connection servers have trusted SSL certs from an internal CA. Connecting a browser to each portal page confirms certificate is trusted.

View client connects no problem via HAProxy, but when the session is disconnected or the user logs out they get this error.

cert-error.PNG

If I click on Show Certificate it shows me the valid certificate. The Client log and debug log don't help.

This does not happen when connecting directly to the Connection server.

Anyone come across this before?

Thanks

Kev

VMWare View 5.2: Display split between half of two screens [multimonitor issue]

Issue:

I connect to a VMWare View 5.2 linked clone desktop using multimonitor, but the display is split between half of each screen.

Only resolve disconnecting (not logging off) and reconnecting to the previous session.

I tried to set the max number of monitors to 4 and max resolution to the mex value, as per VMware KB 1027899, with no success.

Any help is very appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi,

One of my customer is looking for a way to authenticate his View Client connection to Security Server with something like certificate. They don't want to invest into 2-factor like RSA token or smartcard.

Any idea ?

We are having problems getting our NVIDIATesla M2070-Q working with vsphere 5.1
if we set a vm to hardware graphics it gets stuck at 95% starting up
we have rebooted multiple time to no avail, and we are out of ideas

Persona Manager - Multiple repo locations

$

Hi folks!

We normally have roaming profiles for users who log into physical machines.

The profile path is set within the users' AD account under the profile tab.

There is a slight difference for each user (aside from his username) for the location.

For example, here is a finance and a HR user profile path:

  • \\server\staff\FINANCE\profiles\%username%
  • \\server\staff\HR\profiles\%username%

Is it possible to do something similar within the Persona Manager GPo?

Currently, we have all profiles for VMware View PM going to a single area (\\server\staff\PersonaManager\profiles\%username%)

This is set in the "Persona Repository Location" setting.

I was hoping that we might be able to use the "%department%" AD attributes, either by referencing AD variables directly, or by creating the department variable on the VM, and the GPo picking that up.

i.e. : \\server\staff\%department%\profiles\%username%

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

View 5.1 - Share file locked

Hello,

we have a desktop pool with Windows 7 Professional 32bit.

When a user try to open a share file PDF (on virtual File Server with Windows 2008 R2 Standard) with Adobe X Professional receive error that file is already open.

After few minutes the PDF opens fine.

This problem is random and seems not depend on PDF file.

Any idea to resolve?

Thanks.

Unable to update VC certificate thumbprints on SVI server

Our infrastructure is currently configured as below:

  • A) 2 Connection Servers in network load balancing for the main environment
  • B) 1 Connection Server for an isolated network
  • C) 1 vCenter Server with co-installed Composer

One week ago we started the exciting journey "Upgrade your VMware View: from 4.6 to 5.1 + from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2". In a nutshell the worst case...

No regrests, all is well documented in the "VMware View Upgrades 5.1" pdf, but maybe we have a configuration that is a little bit out of ordinary.

After all the steps required, we finally have our 4 servers upgraded up and running ...at least 90%.

The only thing left to fix is an error on the procedure to verify the View Composer certificate from the View Administrators of the point A) - see Figure 1.

Figure 1 - View Administrators point A)

2102135_1.png

The strange thing is that this procedure terminates successfully from the View Administrator of the point B). Obviously the certificate is the same - see Figure 2.

Figure 2 - View Administrator point B)

2102135_2.png

The error we catch when we try to verify the certificate is the following:

There was an error identifying the validity of the server.

And the corresponding error log in C:\ProgramData\Application Data\VMware\VDM\logs is:

Problem with unlock user session in windows 7

Hello

When a user unlock (CTRL-ALT-INS) the windows 7, it must first click on the user icon and only then he can enter the password (See screenshot) This issue we have only when the view agent is installed and the user is connected with PCoIP. On physical computer he can enter the password directly and should not first click on the username,

Has anyone also this problem?

Anyone a solution?

View HTML Blast, There is no available gateway for the display protocol

I'm playing around with the new HTML client for Horizon View - but when i connect externally (from Internet) i get this error when I click on my desktop:

Unable to connect to desktop: There is no available gateway for the display protocol. Try again, or contact your administrator if this problem persists.

From "inside" (through view connection server) it works fine - What could be wrong with my Security server (DMZ)?

I have opened port TCP 8443 to Security server (NAT from WAN) - and at this moment all traffic from Security server to connection server and desktops (LAN) is allowed.

External Access View and Workspace

Have a question on external access with Horizon View and Horizon Workspace, thought i would ask it here as there seems to be more activity.

We would like users to be able to access Horizon View externaly which we can do by fowarding ports 443,4172 and 8443 to our security server but the problem comes when we also want them to access Horizon workspace as this also requiers 443 to be forwarded to the gateway.

Ultimatly what we would like is the user to be able to log in to the Horizon Workspace site and then select their desktop and connect to it either through HTML Access or the view client.

Any tips on how we can do this preferably without changing ports?

Load Balancer and Disabled server

$

Hi, I've a question that about how to check for View Connection Server/Security Gateway availability in regards of the use of a load balancer.

How configuration is something like this:

1) Internal users: 2 dedicated connection server with a load balancer

2) External internet users: 2 connection server (configured for RSA authentication and PCoIP tunneling), 2 DMZ Security Gateway bound 1-to-1 with the connection servers and 1 load balancer

What I have to monitor from the load balancer to be sure that users can connect and work intenally and externally?

From the infrastructure view I have of vmware view i should say

1) Internal Users LB: I'm monitoring HTTP, HTTPS, LDAP, JMS (4001) and AJP13 (8009)

2) External Users LB: I'm monitoring https only on the Security Gateway and JMS/AJP13 on the related Connection Server.

My problem is that I don't know exactly how to monitor for example if one of the 2 connection server bound to a Security gateway is "disabled" the protocol/ports will answer normally to LB (so it's up for it) but the users getting there will not be able to connect because the Connection Server is disabled.

Another problem can be related to ports answering but the program behind it not working correctly.

There's any clean documentation on what to monitor and how to monitor related to load balanced Connection Server/Security Gateway?

We're using haproxy at this moment and it seems stable and working correctly but I don't know what will happen in "unknown/strange" situation.

Thanks

Francesco
