We have some users using the latest View 5.3 client. When they connect to a pool, they recieve any printers assigned in the Location-Based printing in GP, but not any of the local printers. Users on 5.2 or earlier clients receive the printers fine. We had this when using View Manager 5.1.2 and now with 5.2. When I run tpautoconnect manually when connected with the 5.3 client, it tells me "No suitable protocol found". I have tried reinstalling the VMware tools and the View agent in the base image to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
Thinprint will not foward local printers to 5.3 clients
View 5.1 Update-AutomaticLinkedClonePool issues/bug
We need to run a scheduled powerCLI script to increase and decrease the number of desktops in a pool. So i am using the command
Update-AutomaticLinkedClonePool -pool_id Classroom-PCs -MinimumCount 100 -MaximumCount 100 -HeadroomCount 25
The weird thing is, its disabling CBRC on the pool, as seen in the event log
null edited Pool Classroom-PCs (MODIFY: CBRCEnable = 0)
There is no parameter to disable/enable CBRC using the Update-AutomaticLinkedClonePool cmdlet so why is it doing this and how can i stop it?
VMView Horizon - Windows 8 'stuck' taskbar / gfx
Hi All,
Just looking for some ideas of wht could be going wrong with out Windows8 VDI's, the only way I can explain this is that the Taskbar graphics are not being updated - they are stuck on the display they make when you first boot into the desktops.
Ie: You know you have IE open, yet nothing appears until you mouseover the icon and it live tiles the application above it (forced refresh?) - I have aattached a screencap of the clock saying its one date but when you mouseover the correct date is displayed.
All these desktops are using the latest and greatest drivers and have been installed using the recommended methods for previous dekstops (in regards to what order the tools VS the View Agent is installed, none of the Win7 desktops have this bug)
Have I missed something - or is Win8 not quite ready for VDI prime time?
Cheers!

user profiles on conection server...
Hi,
In View 4.6, is it normal to see user profiles on the connection servers under the local profile path (C:\users)?
It's not even all users, just around 40%, randomly split accross the NLB connection servers???
Thanks......
Is RDS support included in Vmware View (broker)?
I read a press release and articles talking about Teradici extending their protocol to RDS servers. Is this included in the latest version of VMware View, or is this something that needs to be bolted on separately? Either way, is the View broker able to broker connections seemlessly to either VDI sessions or RDS sessions with this technology? Also, are there any limitations of using RDS in this way, as compared to VDI?
Also, does VMware View broker connections to RDS servers natively using the RDP protocol already without the extra PCoIP support? Or is it straight up "VDI"?
Thanks if you have the answer!
View 5.2 - sysprep breaks USB redirection
Just a quick note in case anyone else runs across this.
My linked clone (Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit) deployment process looks like this:
Install/update the apps I need on my master image (the VM is not joined to the domain)
Update VMware tools and the View Client for new releases
Clone the machine to a new VM
Run sysprep on the clone (mainly to get the admin profile copied to the default profile for new users - the "right" way to do it in Windows 7)
Join the clone to the domain and log in to get GP to run (adds printers, ScriptLogic agent etc.)
Shut down the clone, snap it, and use it as my base image for deploying my linked clones (using quickprep)
All good, been working great for a year, and then I upgraded to 5.2. As soon as I did that, USB redirection stopped working. The VMware USB devices in device manager show "working" and there are no errors in the event logs. In the View client logs from a zero client I see this:
03/28/2013, 07:06:29.688> LVL:2 RC: 0 SOFT_USB :usb_urboip_process_plugin2: Plugging in device USB\Vid_013fd&Pid_0842 (device_handle 0x00000403)
03/28/2013, 07:06:29.688> LVL:1 RC: 0 SOFT_USB :VHUBLIB(error): Failed to plugin virtual device handle: 01013CC8, error: 0x1
03/28/2013, 07:06:29.688> LVL:1 RC:-500 SOFT_USB :usb_urboip_winif_vhublib_plugin_complete_cback: deferred plugin failed (9)! (device_handle 0x00000403)
03/28/2013, 07:06:29.688> LVL:1 RC:-500 SOFT_USB :usb_urboip_winif_plugin2: Vhublib_PluginDevice failed (9)
03/28/2013, 07:06:29.688> LVL:1 RC:-500 SOFT_USB :usb_urboip_process_rx_buffer: failed to process PLUGIN2
Figured it may have been a failed View Client upgrade, so I went back to my master (non-sysprepped image) and re-ran the View Client install. No help - deployed it again and still no USB. Decided to eliminate some steps and published my master (non-sysprepped) machine in a manual pool. Connected to it from a zero client and USB worked.
To make a long story - and about fours hours on the phone with VMware support - shorter, it looks like sysprep is breaking USB redirection with the 5.2 client. We don't know why, but if I reinstall or repair the View Client after running sysprep it's fixed. I have a dead-simple sysprep unattend file that adds a couple of user accounts, tells sysprep to copy the admin profile to the default profile, sets the language and license keys, and that's it. Nothing for devices (no full PnP rescan), just a "generalize" and "/oobe" on the command line. But even with those simple settings settings it's breaking redirection.
Support is going to try to repro the problem in the lab, but I figured I would post this here in case anyone else runs across the issue.

Windows activation resets
I have a View 5.0 environment, and I have Windows 7 desktops in floating pool. When I provission new desktops the new desktops are asking to activate. The parent is activated and I'm not using SYSPREP so I don't know why the provisioned desktops are requiring activation. I've never had this issue before with other View deployments.
HA for View Connection Server
Hi Guys,
New to setting up HA solution for View connection server 5.2. Understand that the second connection server within the environment is called a View connection replica server. Question is, must i have a load balancer in place to achieve auto load balancing and redundancy? Otherwise it will be a manual failover by pointing to the IP of the replica server?
Wyse P25 - View Display Issue
Hey there! I'm hoping someone else has come across this issue before and can point me in the right direction.
We've recently purchased a number of Wyse P25 zero clients. These have both a Display Port and DVI connection on the back. When I plug the zero client in with just DVI everything works fine up until the point where you connect to your pool. At that point the screen goes black for about 30 seconds and then kicks them back to the Wyse login screen.
I can have them log into a P20 or a View client at a different workstation and it works different.
If I have a display port adapter plugged in as a primary monitor and DVI plugged in as a secondary then it works fine.
Has anyone sseen this before or have an idea and where I should start looking?
Thanks!
View Horizon DHCP scopes
I would like to set up a new DHCP scope for View clients, that is isoloted from the current local LAN that is used today along with DHCP.
The physical clients should still use the local LAN/DHCP.
View clients should be accessible from both Outside and Inside, like today, and internettraffic routed through same GW.
Is there a smooth way to do this, by setting up virtual networks and still utilize the current DHCP server (W2003) ?
We do not have any VLAN's present on physical switches today.
What do i have to set up in terms of VLANS and ports in virtual switch ? Do i need a second DHCP server, or is it possible to use superscope on current server (it's a 2003 server so unsure about that part)
If anyone got similar scenrio and can post a graphical view of the solution, i would appriciate that, or if you can describe the solution.
Vmware View USB Redirection (Scanners)
I'm trying to find out if this is common issue or if there is something I may be missing.
I am using HP Thin Clients with WES9.
I have attempted to connect to two different USB Scanners (HP 5950 and Fujitsu 6240z). I have the drivers installed on the the Thin Client and on the Virtual Desktops.
Through VCenter I am able to connect to these scanners from my deskop using the USB direction in ESX.
I cannot however, from a Thin Client, connecting through the View Client to a virtual desktop get either of these scanners to be redirect or install for use.
If this is a common problem and I'm better off using a a network scanner, or a USB to Ethernet adapter, or a product like RemoteScan, then fine.
I've thouroughly checked the communities and knowledge base. My next step would be to call support, but I thought I would see what the community has to offer first.
Thanks for any info you may have.
Connection Server ports for load balancing
Hello all,
I am trying to troubleshoot a connection server issue with my load balancer. We use haproxy to balance, and it used to work fine but now it isn't. What changed was an upgrade to 4.5. Let me clarify what is not working, the view agent. I can connect to the https://mybroker just fine with the load balancer, and if I point the agent to a broker direct, it works, so it seems like I am missing a port.
I used to just balance 443, do I need to do any other ports? If not, I can further troubleshoot and take some traces, but I want to ensure I have the ports needed covered. I read about 4001 but that I think is just for security server to connection broker comm's.
Thank you
View Blast -changing default domain that is display at login
We are using subdomains and when you login through Blast website all those domains are visible at login dialogue. the problem is, our main domain is not on top of drop-down list. Is there a way to set the domain selection "fixed" to one of the domains, or make it appear at top ? Prefarably without hacking the code of the website.
No Domain Local groups in a 2008 R2 Domain in native mode
As the title says, I cannot add Domain Local groups to my View Pools. I have ensured my domain is running at the functional level of Windows 2008 R2 native mode and so is the Forest.
Any suggestions?
VMware Blast doesn't display a desktop pool unless I entitle users directly and not groups
I have the weirdest scenario. When I try to login via HTML Blast I don't see a certain desktop pool. I know for a fact the HTML box is checked on the desktop pool settings. If I look at the entitlements I see the group that i'm in. If I entitle my user account directly then the pool shows up via HTML blast. If I try logging in via PCoIP using the software client or using a zero client it works using a group or user entitlement. Anyone else seeing this?
Connect to virtual desktop using Virtualbox
The company I work for recently implemented VMware View. I work from home on a regular basis and would like to access my virtual desktop when working from home. My company currently has no plans to setup a View Security Server, so the only way to connect to the View Connection Server remotely is by first establishing a VPN connection to the company network.
I would prefer not to run the VPN client directly on my home PC. Instead, I would like to create a thin client inside a Virtualbox VM on my home PC and use that thin client to access the VPN and the View Connection Server.
Before I dive in, I have a few questions:
- Is there an alternative setup that I might be overlooking?
- What is the best thin client OS to use for the Virtualbox VM? I'm using the Cisco VPN Client which claims to work on Linux.
Thanks in advance!
VMware View session as VPN client
At our company we are trying to configure a VMware View server with session to create VPN to our customers. We several different VPN clients which don't work together. At the moment we are using local VMware workstation sessions for this but these systems are not part of our domain, are not always up to date and don't always have a virus scanner installer, so this is a security risk.
The problem I'm having is that several VPN client (like cisco) close the local network, this also blocks the View agent on the session and the client loses connection. Is there a solution to this problem.
Thanks,
Wouter
Processor for VMWare View Client
We are replacing a virtual lab and looking at 2 different Thin Clients. The first is an HP t510 and the other is a DakTech Orion Nettop 2 thin client. As far as I can tell both seem to perfrom quite well with the view client. T510 has a VIA Eden X2 U4200 (1 GHz, 2 cores) and the DakTech has a Intel Atom Dual Core 1.80ghz w/1M cache processor. Has anyone had experience with either or both of these? Both models have performed very well in testing. Our concern is that if one processor will last longer than the other. Any feedback on these two models of thin clients would help out alot. Thanks.
Using Thunderbird with roaming profile
I am using VMware View 5
floating pools/persona management
all of my apps are working well except Thunderbird.
Everytime the user logs on it wants to setup and account
If you browse to c:\users\%username%\appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles\yrkwgahp.default\mail
the data is there. Each time the new account is setup it increments the folders from local folder-1 to local folder-2 and so on
Does anyone else use Thunderbird in this type of environment? I am curios what GPO's you have setup.
Horizon Upgrade
Has anyone upgraded from view 5.1 to horizon 5.2 yet? I have read over the documentation but wanted to know if anyone has hit any snags or has some advice/reminders during the upgrade process?
Thanks!
