Our desktop team has been experiencing issues supporting our end user's VDIs after a restart, refresh or recompose. Our DHCP lease is set at 30 min but it looks like the VDIs are not checking in properly. The hostname and IP are not refreshing as expected and the our techs are having issues when trying to remotely support the users. Has anyone else experienced this? We are considering shortening the lease time but I am not confident that would resolve the issue. Any ideas?

I've been tasked with decommissioning an older Management server and migrating its applications to a new Management server.
Among the applications installed are the following:
VMWare VCenter 5.5
VMWare View Composer 5.5
VMWare VIX
vCenter Orchestrator
I am relatively new to VMWare, and I haven't done a lot with Databases.
I have read the various Migration guides, but I was wondering if someone can help break down the process of what is needed to move these applications. The reading has been a little thick.
Regarding the View Composer, linked clones are involved. I understand that the database needs moved along with the RSA Keys. And since the server I am moving them to has a different name and IP, I will need to create new SSL Certificates. That is something else I am not familiar with. The databases are running on SQL Express. I am assuming that the only way to move them is to take a backup and perform a restore. Does VMWare offer any utilities to help migrate the databases, and RSA keys? Also, will I need to migrate the VCenter database if I don't care about the historical data?
I appreciate any assistance you guys can provide.
Looks like it's been a while since anyone has commented on the subject, and we've recently purchased the software. So now's a great time to open the discussion back up on this.
We purchased Bloomberg Professional, complete with their Bloomberg Keyboards and all. There's been some debate between us, licensing, and tech support as to whether or not we can legally run this in a VMware environment. In our tests, we've proven that the software works. We've yet to receive the keyboards, but we aren't anticipating any issues here. The only issue we have is with the deployment of licenses.
Bloomberg is telling us, all legal issues aside, for this to work in a VMware environment we must have some level of persistence for the user profile. The reason for this is because license information gets updated in the registry during the software's activation and at periodic intervals while it runs. If persistence is not enabled, we would have to reactivate the software each time a machine is refreshed (which would require a call to Bloomberg) or capture the registry key before the machine is refreshed. We tell Bloomberg we do not want to use persistence since this is a student lab, and we prefer to allow students to refresh machines with a reboot if needed to allow some level of self service if a machine is rendered unusable by the student population. Bloomberg has been less than helpful in finding a resolution to making the software fit our environment.
So aside from writing a custom service to manage the registry keys for each licensed machine and archive/restore these from persistent disk in some other location as needed, has anyone come to a resolution that allows the Bloomberg software to run in a non-persistent VMware lab environment without licensing headaches? For us, we will be deploying in kiosk mode, logging in via the MAC address of our Wyse P25 thin clients. If we can't come to a resolution, we will most likely deploy this as a persistent pool and store the license under each user's login.
Thoughts or comments from those of you who have dealt with this?

i would like to have Persona Management to respect the profile version settings in Windows.
I have enabled profile versions via registry in Windows but Persona Management always uses the V2 suffix. Is there a way to handles this automatically or should I create two different GPO for windows 7 and windows 8.1 where I specify two different paths?

Just wondering if anybody has deep drive information on how CDR (Client Drive Redirection) works in View 6.1.1? I'm intermittently not getting the client drives mapped / appear. Have the latest client (4.3) and agent (6.1.1). It does work but sometimes not across different users etc. I have the group policy to allow CDR already.
Where can I see logs for this particular functionality?
What service does this depend on?

The connection server is installed and running fine. I tried to install a security server in a different domain, and get a error at the end of installation, that pcoip can't be configured.
Is it possible to do that?

We have Horizon View 6.1 installed along with Composer and Connection Server.
We have Windows 7 VMs spun up and I installed the Horizon View client on a VM that I am using in a lab.
When I launch the client and connect to the Connection Server and login to my VM, under the View Desktop Options at the top,
I do not see the “Shared Folders” option. It should appear after the “Enable Relative Mouse” option.
We are pretty sure the View Agent was installed with the Client Drive Redirection feature enabled on the base template.
Is there a way to verify if the Client Drive Redirection feature was enabled?
If not, can it be modified to allow redirection modified?
We need the ability to move files from the View VMs to the VM that is running the Horizon View Client.

We have several floating pools where users will sign in on a second device while a session is active on another device and end up with a new session rather than joining their previous session. Allow multiple sessions per user is set to no, and automatic logoff after disconnect is set to never (as per http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1007581). The cases I have personally witnessed were using a secondary device to connect, but I am wondering if some users are just trying to reconnect after a session timeout and ending up with a new session as well.
Has anyone else had issues with users receiving new sessions rather than successfully connecting back to an existing session that they are just disconnected from?

I sucessfully install the Linux VMware Horizon View Client version (Mware-Horizon-Client-3.2.0-2331566.x86.bundle) with the '--custom' switch to install to an alternate location (/opt/vmware/view-client).
However, there seems to me something missing during execution. I am only able to start an RDP session. When I go into the properties of the pool, I can't select 'PCOIP'.
I don't have this problem when I install the package in the default location (without '--custom'). Is there a missing library in the executable's path when it's installed in an alternate location? If so, which one??
I need to install in an alternate location, otherwise there's a conflict with VMware-Workstation that is installed on the same machine (Fedora 20 X86-64).

I am a traveling professional and connect to Horizon View environments using many different types of network portal and transparent proxy. I have connected from: hotels, airports, airplanes, corporate networks, so on and so forth. Once in a while, from the client perspective, I find it necessary to revert to RDP over port 443 in order to connect, but have never had problems with the SSL.
This week I am working in a company (Lets say their name is "Momcast") and I find that their captive portal/transparent proxy usurps the valid SSL provided by a Horizon View Security Server! That is to say that the valid SSL provided by a worldwide CA, and known to the Horizon View Client to be 100% valid using all other types of network, is stripped by the proxy at Momcast and replaced with a SSL registered to Momcast.
I have tried setting the View Client to "connect anyway" or "warn" to no avail! Because the SSL that the Client is being provided is different from the one that is installed on the security server and the Client will not connect.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I have a large VDI of about 1000+ virtual desktops. Most of these users are remote (overseas) and I have NO control over their host systems. However, I would like to keep users on the same version of View Horizon Client. Is there a way to check the version from the VM or VCenter via script? This way I could determine who to reach in order to request they update the client in their Host machine.

I have VM View setup with Zero clients using PCoIP. Sometimes the users shutdown their vm by mistake. The only way to boot it back up is to wait for me to do it through the the VSphere. Are there any options where if the user connects to the view server using their zero client that their vm will automatically start up? Anyone else run into this problem?

What cought my eye in View point of view was this:

It certainly raises some questions for me:
a) The Nvidia GPU VIB-files is that free of charge or is it licensed from Nvidia or Vmware?
b) Have anyone tested 5.1 with Quadro-cards (and VMware Techie out there?) Pros? Cons?
c) Is the GPU fully accessible from the View guest or is there some kind of abstraction layer in between? After some research it seems like the abstraction layer is utilizing Xorg in a clever way.

a key-requirement for our View-Windows-Desktops is, to support softphone; no problem, I thought because RTAV should work. And in fact: RTAV works!
But using RTAV allows to use only one audio out device - and the user wants to select via Cisco Jabber Client two different audio out devices:
Cisco Jabber Client offers the possibility to select three options for audio:
- speaker (1)
- microphone (2)
- and warnings (3)
for (1) and (3) with RTAV I can only choose the VMware Virtual Audio (DevTap) device, (and for (2) of course VMware Virtual Microphone).
My question: can I select to different devices for audio out, so that the user can hear the softphone ringing (the warning sounds) via the pc-speaker and then, after he has picked up the phone the sound comes only from the headset?
I´ve also tried the Teradici Audio drivers - no success.
And even if I use USB-redirection for the headset, I can´t get it to work: either the sound comes ONLY from the headset or from the speakers. although in Cisco Jabber Client audio settings I can then select different devices for (1) and (3) by using USB-redirecton. ....
My recent idea is, to use a separate USB-Soundcard for the warning sounds. Has sombody tried this before ...?

We have an issue with a brand new Dell XPS 13 laptop. This laptop has a native resolution of 3200 dpi. When this laptop connects to a View desktop the icons and text are very small. It is not possible to work with a view desktop.
The latest View Horizon for View client is installed on the Dell XPS 13. Is there a way to adjust display resolution using RDP? The view client connects to a physical desktop using RDP, but even connecting with PCoIP or RDP to virtual view pool the resolution is the same. I do not understand since for the pool the resolution is restricted to 2560 dpi.
I hope there is a way to resolve it that one can work with View desktops with a Dell XPS laptops.

After creating the pool, I want to use this linked clones as RDS hosts for a RDS farm.
I am using View 6.1 and vSphere 6...

I have to deploy the application pools to the user in VMware Horizon View environment using RDS feature on the Windows Server 2012. When I tried to publish the application I noticed that the icon is a little bit strange.
If I select the application from the lists, the application show up with right icons -- such as (remote desktop, notepad, wordpad, IE, paint)
But if I add the application manually, there are something wrong the application show up only "A" icon. If I add more applications, the icon are the same picture. -- see an attachment below.
Can I change the icon appear on the Horizon View Client ? How can I change it ?
