Limiting View Adminitrator rights

$

Hello, we need to limit rights in View Administrator.  We are running version Horizon 6.0 with VMware 5.5 hosts.

The reason for this is we have two departments that need to manage different pools. So we want to have department A to only be able to manage lets say Pool 1 and 2, and Department B to only mange Pool 3 and 4.

Basically I don't want someone in Department A to be able to accidently make changes to Pool 3 and 4.  I technically don't mind if they can view them, but I don't want them to make changes to other pools except the ones for there department.

Can this be done?

I only have 5 Hosts, so I cant setup separate Hosts for each departments.  I can setup separate Connection servers if that somehow helps.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Mike

Updating Windows 10 Enterprise 64 from 10074 to 10130 fails with LSI Paravirtual disk & View Agent gives BSOD on Ctrl+Alt+Ins\Del

I kept trying to update from build 10074 to 10130 and it would boot to the recovery wizard. Booting back in to windows it would report error 0x8024001e.

The VM had paravirtual disk controller. I added a second disk on SCSI 2:1 and changed that controller to LSI SAS and booted up and configured the disk. Then I shutdown and changed the paravirtual disk to SAS. Then the update worked fine. Could be a coincidence but I tried half a dozen times before.

Once updated, I changed back to paravirtual and things were fine, at least with boot up.

Trying to log in while View Agent 6.0.2-2331487 or 6.1.1-2769635 were installed results in a BSOD with error DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (kbdclass.sys). Removing the view agent and Ctrl+Alt+Del works fine but now we cant use horizon view on Windows 10 Tech Preview. So sad.

VMware Horizon View client and high DPI screens

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has a solution to getting the View client to play nice with high DPI screens, such as those with 3200x1800 screen resolution, or Apple's 2880x1800 screen resolution on the Macbook Retina 15". The View client doesn't seem to scale properly, and the only fix seems to be changing the desktop screen resolution and then logging into view. I don't think this is a very graceful fix, and my user's aren't too happy about it either.

Thanks,

Ryan

vmware-view-usb issue with VMware View Cient 3.2.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit

Hello,

Today I installed VMware View Client 3.2.0 on my Ubuntu 14.04 x64 workstation and I am having issues with vmware-view-usb. I pretty much followed these instructions with the exception of a few more dependencies that were needed and an extra symbolic link: Horizon View 3.2.0 Client on Ubuntu 14.10 64 bit

I went through the installer and chose to install everything including USB redirection. The setup completed and I ran the tests at the end which all came back successful. I launched vmware-view, connected to our Horizon connection server, and connected to a few machines and noticed that I did not have any USB redirection options. I took a look at the Horizon client log and saw the following errors:

2015-04-29 16:53:40.577: vmware-view 32253| Starting child: vmware-view-usb '-a' '127.0.0.1' '-p' '43042' '-u' '[omitted]'

2015-04-29 16:53:40.579: vmware-view 32253| CdkViewUsb_Init: (is vmware-view-usbd running?)

vmware-view-usb is not running, in fact its not even installed on the workstation. A find search of the whole system returns no results for vmware-view-usb. I have the vmware-usbarbitrator but not vmware-view-usb. Thinking that I may have messed up something during the installation when determining the necessary dependencies, I installed the VMware View Client again on another Ubuntu 14.04 x64 workstation and again, no vmware-view-usb is installed. Any thoughts as to why this is not being installed and is there a way for me to add the missing file(s)?

Thanks,

Jesus

GPO templates for View client does not apply

$

Hi,

I recently installed a Horizon view system, my setup is as follows:

ESXi 5.5U2

1 Firewall

1 2008R2 AD DS

1 View security server (NOT A PART OF AD)

1 View connection server

1 2008R2 RDSH

My RDSH server is hosting all the desktops, but using the view client instead of the standard RDP from windows, i can set the standard GPO settings in AD and they apply to all the users in my OU when they connect to the RDSH server. But i wanted to restrict some more things and imported the GPO templates from Horizon view, but whatever i try to do with the imported GPO settings they don't apply to the clients.

Example:

I want to set the color depth to 16 bit (to minimize the bandwidth usage), if i use the standard GPO setting in windows AD the setting apply IF and ONLY IF i connect through standard RDP, but when i use the View client i get 32 bit, i imported the template "vdm_client.adm" and modified the same setting in "VMware View Client Configration -> RDP settings -> color depth = enabled - 16 bit". but these policies does not apply.

Anybody got any ideas?

How to disable the menu bar in Vmware Horizon view 3.3

We are installing a computer that will kind of be in Kiosk mode where the Windows Shell will be replaced to only run Vmware horizon view client. It will automatically connect to one single server. The users will have access to different Vms so we don't want the software to auto connect to a Vm. The problem is that we don't want the users to have access to the top bar that has the "disconnect server" and "options" buttons when they are at the VM selection screen.

Is there a way to hide or disable that top menu bar?

Thanks for the help guys!

Is there any way to require clients be a certain version on the secure gateway server? If not is there a way to see what version a session is using?

Graphing View sessions

Has anyone found a good way to graph the current number of active sessions in View (per Desktop pool?)? I would like to add the kind of graph to our cacti monitoring solution, but don't really know where to start.

Is this data exported through snmp? How can I read this kind of data from a linux server?

Is there a known problem with Chrome OS version 45?

My Horizon View client was working without issues, but after upgrading to Chrome OS 45, the Horizon View app starts with a blank screen that shows just the Horizon View logo in the middle. Nothing happens. I cannot connect to a server or start a VM, it is also not possible to do any configuration. I restarted my Chromebook, de-installed and re-installed the Horizon View client. Nothing helps...

I am working on a Chromebook Pixel 2015. Chrome OS is:

Version 45.0.2454.86 (64-bit)

Is anyone using a Fatpipe to load balance their View Security server?   I cannot maintain a connection to our view server using a backup circuit nat'd to the external IP of the view security server.   I authenticate, the desktop attempts to load then I get a black screen and a disconnect message.   I can connect to the desktop using HTML access with no problem.

User is able to login to VDI environment.

Java Application won't start after View Agent installation

Hey folks,

i have a problem with one of our thinapped applications. The application contains it's own Java libraries and works fine on every non VMware View Desktop.

I did some troubleshooting and found out, that the installation of the View Agent is causing this issue. I couldn't find out, what part of the View Agent exactly causes this behaviour.

This is the error message i get: The JVM could not be started. The maximum heap size (-Xmx) might be too large or an antivirus or firmware tool could block the execution.

Hope you guys have an idea .

regards,

Edit: just found out that it's not a thinapp related issue. Moved to "VMware View"...

Dedicated Pool does user assignment keep same pc name after recompose?

$

Hello, We would like to create a Dedicated Pool and have the user always get the same Desktop.  I know this can be done, but what im wondering is after a user has been assigned a Desktop, will they get the same Desktop/PC Name after a Recompose?

I ask because we have a citrix application that seems to have its Printer Settings related to the PC Name.  We are using Floating Pools at the moment, and ide like to keep it that way, but the application seems to care about pc name.

So what ide like to do is setup Dedicated Pools without Persistent Disks, and have the Desktop Refresh every night.  Kind of simulating a Floating Pool, except when the user logs in the next morning they should get the same desktop and PC name.

But if a Recompose happens, lets say we recompose because of updates, will the user assignment stay and give them they same Desktop/PC Name?

I havent had time to test this out, wondering if anybody knows

Thanks

New Horizon View 6.2 agent stops Blender software

$

Hi all,

I have deployed the new horizon view agent 6.2 on one of our selected pools for testing and have noticed the new agent will cause the software Blender to not load with no error messages, Blender is a small 2D/3D graphics and animation software.

I have identified that the svga driver installed is release 8.15.1.32, once I reinstall the past driver 8.14.1.24 all is working again, the pool is not running in 3D mode as we use the software for basic animation only.

Info: Windows 7 x64, tools 9.4.12, svga 8.15.32, software: blender 2.75.

Just wondering if anyone is experiencing any issues with the new agent 6.2?

thanks,

David.

Horizon View 6.2, 3.5 View Client and Windows 10

$

Hi All,

I performed an in place upgrade of Horizon View 6.2 over the weekend and have been very happy with the performance and features.  However, I am having a bit of an issue with Windows 10 Enterprise.  The VDI desktop does not resize/scale as expected.  It seems that whatever the Windows 10 desktop setting is set in vSphere, seems to remain when connecting with the View Client.

I had this issue in Horizon View 6.1.1 with the 3.4 client, but didn't sweat it until this recent release.

I wanted to eliminate my Windows 10 Enterprise image as being the culprit, so I installed a fresh version of Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit with the latest VMware Tools and View Agent and the issue persists.

I am running vCenter 6.0.0.b and ESXi 6 with the latest patches.  I can validate the screen resize/scale issue occurs on multiple endpoints, so I do not believe the issue is with the endpoint device and the client.

Any ideas?
