View wild card certifcate

On a view 5.3 I'm using a self signed certificate with name connector.domain.local.com. This name is the same of the server with view connector. Now I'd like use my rapid ssl wild card certificate. Its name name is *.mydomain.com. The name of internal Windows active directory is different from the external domain.

Could I use this wild card certificate?

Need help connecting to Composer server in View Administrator

I am trying to setup an eval of Horizon View 6. The text environment will be small, and I want to use linked clones. The setup is as follows:

vSphere 5.5 hosts

vCenter 6 (appliance) - not joined to AD domain due to a bug in VCSA 5.5 & 6.0 with the way my AD domain is named; specifically, the domain name is ad.domain.net but the pre-Windows 2000 name is domain

View Connection on Windows 2012 R2 VM

View Composer on Windows 2012 R2 VM

SQL database on separate server

I've been following the instructions in the eval guide and this blog to set it up: Horizon View 6.0 | Sean's IT Blog

Everything with the prerequisites and setup went smoothly. I am now at the step where I link the Connection server with vCenter and Composer. The vCenter connection worked properly (using a local account I created within vCenter for View to use, with permissions defined in a role). On the Composer Settings page, I continue to get an error "Unable to connect to View Composer." The user account I am specifying is the Composer service account I created in AD called vcmpSvc, which has permissions in AD to create/delete computer objects and also is in the local administrators group on the Composer server. I am using the correct password, verified by logging in locally on the Composer server with the service account and launching a command prompt with admin elevation. I have tried these formats for the username:

vcmpSvc

domain\vcmpSvc

vcmpSvc@ad.domain.net

Also, the SOAP port is 18443 (unchanged from default) and the firewall is disabled on both the Connection and Composer server. What am I missing?

User Profile Service Server failed the sign-in

I have been getting this error below a lot lately

“The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded.”

And a simple restart would fix the problem for the users, but some of them are needing to be restarted 3 or more time a day and that’s just not acceptable. Recomposing every few weeks used to keep the error away but I just recomposed this week and I’m already getting the error a lot worse this time around.

Im running ESXI 5.5.0 with View Administrator 6.0.1 build-2088845

It’s an Automated Desktop Pool with Persistent disks with 9 machines and only 6 are used daily and they are entitled. All the machines are joined to our domain.

The fixes i have found online dont look they would work for VMware or Group Policy..

Anyone else ever get this problem and found a work around?

Urgent Help!!! one of my client meets - "the view agent reports that this desktop source is unable to accept connections"

Dear all,

one of my staff said she could not connect her desktop vm22 and the view client said "the view agent reports that this desktop source is unable to accept connections". my view administrator displays that “the pending session on machine xx for user xxx has been expired” . but i then assigned another user to the same desktop, everything looks fine.

background:

1. I am using view 6.0.

2. This user used to assigned another desktop vm06. it took a long long time (more than 30 minutes) to login (agent set not delete local persona) , This Morning when she tried to connect(already logged in before, here just reconnect),  she got "there is no available gateway for this display protocol". So i assigned her to another desktop vm22

Is there something wrong with this user account or something else. Need your help!!! Thanks in advance!

PCoIP secure tunnel question...

We are looking at allowing external access to some of our View 6.1 desktops for the first time and just need something clarified if possible.  I know I can pair a security server with one of our connection servers and allow PCoIP secure gateway connections through our firewalls, but my question is whether this would work if the remote clients first connected to a corporate VPN (Cisco ASA) and then connected to the security server via this.  It seems like a little overkill (if it’s even supported) to me as the PCoIP tunnel is already encrypted, but security is priority here and the advantage of clients first connected to the Cisco VPN is that the Cisco client will perform posture checking for client AV and firewall compliance.   Hope that makes sense, and thanks in advance for any advice.

Thinprint in citrix session

Hello,

we are trying the following: Map local printer trough citrix into view desktop.

The end user will connect to a Citrix Access Gateway and start the Horizon View Client as a published application. The user has the right to map his local printers into the citrix sesssion. The printers are mapped to the citrix server. This can be verified if I connect directly to the citrix desktop. The view client will then connect to our secure gateway server and will get his virtual desktop. Thinprint is installed in the virtual desktop and is working if I connect directly with a locally installed client. In the view desktop I tried "tpautoconnect -v".  When I use the option "-i TCPIP" the view desktop tries to directly connect to port 4000 of the client pc. This can't work because of firewall rules and/or nat. When I use the option "-i VC" the command will Exit with error code 219.

We are using the latestet 6.1.1 version of all view components. As client we are using 3.3.0 32bit running on the Citrix Server and 3.4.0 64bit as locally installed client.

Hope somebody has any hints

Kind regards

Michael Rudolph

Kiosk mode - "client ID"

Hi, has anyone used option of "client ID" instead of MAC address in Kiosk mode? I would like to know how they configured it. I think in a large setup we should use Client ID as it is easy to locate instead of MAC address.

using Kiosk mode and Physical desktop

We have configured Kiosk mode on Physical Desktop. When user connects to view via "Kiosk mode" he is not able to access physical desktop anymore. I was wondering is there a way we can minimize the view client and use the physical desktop at the same time?

Thanks

View 2-facor authentication

Hello everyone,

I would need to explain the 2-factor authentication proces implemented in VMware view. Is the combination of user account/password still required (as on of the factors) or can be disabled? The reason why I am asking is that the customer has implemented OTP authentication using third-party technologies, so the OTP is the only thing the user has to know to log on, and users do not know their passwords. The technology allows authentication on VPN using the RADIUS server as well.

And now VMware View - If 2-facor authentication is enabled using RADIUS server, the user has to enter passcode (which is the OTP), and if the user is successfully authenticated, then he/she is asked to enter his/her domain credentials (however user does not know his/her password). Is it possible to remove the requirement to authenticate using domain credentials (and leave only OTP via RADIUS authentication in place), or does the 2-factor mean that the user/password will always be required as on factor?

Thank you & kind regards,

Petr

I arrived here through a QR Code in "HOL-MBL-1452 - Horizon 6 with View Use Cases." Disappointed to see that videos aren't linked.

Disabling thinprint printer redirection from view client

Has anybody been able to figure out to prevent the view client from mapping in default printers from the endpoint? I have come across numerous vmware KB's that stat you need to set the defaultState key to 0 but that doesn't seem to work.

Visual Studio 2010 On Vmware View 6.1

Hey guys,

hoping somebody can shed some light on an issue our users are experiencing.. we have users on view 6.1 3vCpu, 16GB Ram and 15k Sas San backend.. the issues our users are seeing only pertain to running visual studio.. compile time is fine.. but moving around, typing, scrolling is running very slow.. usable but not a great experience. these issues do not affect other applications.. just VS2010.

has anyone seen this before and found a way to make the functionality better?

we running pretty high end hosts + apex 2800 offload cards.. 10GB network etc.. so i doubt it's a hardware issue..

if anyone could shed some light it would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Just recomposed and it lost connection to my datastore so 3 of my 9 machines for this pool are having the Provisioning error (missing) problem...

07-10-2015-3e6r7c.png

after those 3 machines it moved on and the other 6 machines are perfect..

I checked the datastore browser and 2 folders for the problemed VMs are gone and one folder that just has a .vmdk file in it and nothing else..

would i just right click on the 3 machines and remove them then go to the desktop pool and enable provisioning? When i go to the desktop pool catalog it doesnt throw any errors right now.. i feel like there is something i need to do on composer?

Sorry to sound so noobish but im still learning this View and composer thing..

Im running View Admin 6.0 w/ esxi 5.5

Possible to load balance between two View pools?

$

Hi,

View 6.1.1. vCenter 5.5 update 2. Windows Server 2012 R2. PCoIP.

We have a design build upon redundancy in one datacenter. We have 2 View building blocks(vCenter, Composer) together with one View pod consisting of 5 connection servers.

Because we have two Composer servers we are stuck with 2 pools and need to guide the users between those two pools by using AD groups.

Is it any other possibilities to load balance users between those two pools? we use F5 but dont have APM module. We are not afraid of using PowerCLI or other custom methods.

Is this possible to do with the Cloud Pod feature maybe? Will that be recommended to do even if its inside only 1 datacenter?

Kind regards

Horizon View 6 - Persona Management - Folder Redirection and Roaming & Synchronization

I'm having a quirky issue with the PMView.  This is what I see:

- Log as test user with Horizon View client (1st time)

- View Desktop loads Windows, and shows desktop (30-45 seconds)

(During this step, I see the profile and redirected folders are created correctly)

- Log off test user

- Log back in with the same test user (2nd time)

- View Desktop loads Windows, shows the "Welcome" screen, and then a black screen.

(During this step, I see the profile repository get "recreated" (i.e., the folders/files get deleted, and then recreated...))

- After 1-2 minutes later, the desktop shows up

This seems like an odd behavior to me, and it's probably related to how I've created my PMview.

This is what I have:

Persona Management instead of Folder Redirection/Roaming Profiles

$

I wanted to use Persona Management instead of using Folder Redirection/Roaming Profiles for users that need to log on their local desktops (not just View Desktops).  Is this possible to do, and is there an additional license cost for this?

I can't really seem to find any specific information on this.
