PCoIP sessions are disconnected on vMotion!

I have recently faced a problem with my VDI space.

PCoIP sessions was disconnecting continuously or freeze the screen while working with it.

I partially know the problem has happened in some cases because of the DRS which migrates VMs across the cluster. However, it is not completely because of that. Some sessions are disconnected or frozen for 3-10sec. without any reason. Upgrading all parts of the solution to the latest patches including VMware view 6.1.0-2509221 and ESXi 6.0 (Build 2715440) , vCenter (6.0 Build B2656761) didn't solve the problem.

Is there any solution for this?

Thanks

View 6.1 Extra-Bundles download Missing?

We need to download the latest location-based printing DLL for use with View 6.1

View documentation states

"In Horizon 6.0.1 or later, 32-bit and 64-bit versions of TPVMGPoACmap.dll are available in a bundled .zip file named VMware-Horizon-View-Extras-Bundle-x.x.x-yyyyyyy.zip, where x.x.x is the version and yyyyyyyis the build number. You can download the file from the VMware Horizon (with View) download site at http://www.vmware.com/go/downloadview."

The download site does not have any such download.  There is a seperate GPO bundle download but the DLL is not included with the adm/gpo bundle.

Where is the TPVMGPoACmap.dll ?

Windows Password GroupPolicy with thinclients do not work

hello,

sthg special....

i have a vdi infrastructure with 90% thinclients (the vm is windows 32bit)

the users only disconnect their session during the week, on fridays the users do a shut down.

i have a password policy that the users have to change their password every 90 days.

when the time e.g. expires on a wednesday, the users can connect to their virtual machines with their thinclients, but...

when they want to open the internet browser or windows browser, they got a small window to enter their user and password.

then they change their passord (with ctrl+alt+del) open the IE again and it works.

when the password expires on a sunday, while the vm from the user is offline, it works. on monday morning when they want to connect to their vm via thinclient they get the info to change the password

so i've  activated a group policy: "Interactive logon: Prompt user to change password before expiration" 21 days

then the user should get the message to change the password at least 3 times.

but i think this doesn't work

perhaps sb has an idea, how i can fix this problem.

thank you.

in this cluster ESXi network uplink has mixing between 1G and 10G on dvSwitch (mix Rack server and blade server).

This issue was occurred from mixing NIC type in dvSwitch or not?

And anyone can guide me for best practice for View Desktop workload. it should Mixing or not?

Kind regards,

Desktops displayed available in View Admin but failed to login using View Client

Hi all,

This is my first time trying to get support from VMware Community.

Currently I own a View 6.0.1 infrastructure and have a manual pool inside. It is all based on vSphere 5.5.

I imported a Windows 7-based vCenter VM into this pool and had somebody entitled & assigned.

He is usually doing very well with his VM using PCoIP but sometimes get error message on his View Client as below:

The assigned desktop source for this desktop is not currently available.

Please try connecting to this desktop again later, or contact your system administrator.

At the mean time I checked the web management portal, or View Administrator, and came to find this desktop displayed AVAILABLE.

It was very unreasonable. I asked him to login his VM from vCenter console and he did it successfully with View Administrator still reporting AVAILABLE.

I telnet-ed port 4001 of the connection server from this VM and it was responsive. He could not take over his own login session using View Client, though.

As he logged out from the vCenter console and tried View Client again, this time View Client worked.

I was confused about two points and would like to ask experts here for help:

  1. While we logged in the VM from vCenter console and perform telnet connection test, why was this VM sitll displayed AVAILABLE in View Administrator? Should it be reported as connected from console or some other status?
  2. Initially View Client failed, but worked well after we logged in & out that VM without doing anything. What could be the cause why initial connection failed?

Any reply are very well appreciated.

Unable to select host for Pool, can only select Cluster

Hello,

I'm trying to evaluate View and am going through the Evaluators Guide.  When I am setting up the Resource Settings under the vCenter Settings part of the Linked Clone Pool, where I am supposed to be able to select a Host or Cluster, I only have the option to select my cluster (not an individual host).  The problem with this is that not all of the hosts in my cluster have access to the SAN that I'm using for this evaluation, so I wanted to be able to isolate the pool to a single host.  Is there some kind of trick to getting the hosts to show up individually?  The hosts are ESXi 5.5, and vCenter is vCenter Standard 5.5

Thanks

Horizon View 6.0.0 Persona issues

$

I have a ticket with VMware support open to troubleshoot this request, but I wanted to see if anyone here has seen anything similar to this issue. Recently, within the last week or two we began noticing an issue with persona enabled View desktops where we are unable to copy a folder from the desktop onto any share or drive mapping for our NAS, which is an EMC Isilon running some version of OneFS 7.2. The persona repository is also located on the same NAS. The message received is the following:

"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the folder. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.

Error 0x80070032: The request is not supported."

If persona is uninstalled from the desktop in question, the issue immediately is resolved. I've performed some testing and we are able to create folders on a persona enabled desktop and any NAS share the user has access to, and we can copy or cut/paste individual files or groups of files into existing folders on the NAS from a View desktop. If a folder with the same name exists in both locations, we are also able to cut/paste or copy the folder from the desktop into the NAS share and it will successfully perform a merge. I've tested UNC path vs. share names or mapped drives and it doesn't make any difference with the behavior of this.

Up until this point, with Horizon View 6 persona has been rock solid for us, but I wonder if we are also having persona sync issues that just haven't been reported yet.

Group policy "applied" but not making any settings until running a GPUPDATE /force

Hi folks.

We have a strange problem with our linked clone desktops.

The pool builds the desktop and registers with AD correctly using QuickPrep. When a user logs in, settings that the group policy would normally apply are not apparently working.

However, the GPRESULT /R command shows all policies correctly! All policies appear to be getting applied.

But when doing a RSOP.MSC, none of the settings can be seen.

As soon as I do a GPUPDATE /FORCE, the policy starts working:

  • Desired effects are immediately seen on the desktop (i.e. one setting is to hide the C drive in explorer).
  • RSOP.MSC now shows the settings that were previously missing.
  • GPRESULT /R shows no difference.

We are running the following:

  • VMware View 5.2
  • Non-Persistent Desktops - destroyed on logout.
  • Windows 7
  • OU has inheritance blocked, and settings are not set anywhere else (i.e. not conflicting settings).

It appears that if an available desktop is left long enough for the group policy refresh to occur before a user logs in, then all works correctly. It's just like the policy is not working correctly before a normal refresh (whether forced or timed).

Any advice?

Missing icons in Windows Horizon View Client

I installed the Windows View Client version 3 build 1887158.  When I open the client, it leaves space like it should be displaying an icon above each item, but nothing is there.  Does this for the server list as well as the pool list. Tried reinstalling and got the same results.  Anyone else seen this behavior?

VMNames limit reached. Cannot create

I'm creating a dedicated pool I'm getting this message.  I can go pick a new name and I think that will clear up the problem but I'm wondering why this is happening.  This is a small pool - 6 desktops and somehow it's run out of names.   The accounts are not still in active directory but View seems to think they are.  I've had to create and delete the inventory a few times to get the image right but I thought the behavior was to start with the lowest number available via AD?

Here's a screenie of the error/pool settings:

Horizon client SSL error

I'm using Horizon Client, 3.3.0 build-2507564, and getting an SSL error when attempting a CAC login to the target site.  I am presented the banner, prompted for my certificate, prompted for my PIN, and then I get this error after putting in my PIN:

Error: An SSL error occurred

I have the SSL setting set to "Warn before connecting to untrusted servers", but I get no such warning.  I've tried all three configuration options for this SSL setting but none seems to resolve the issue.  It doesn't appear to be a certificate/security issue.  Other folks using the same version of Horizon client and using CAC authentication are not having this issue.  I've tried reinstalling ActivClient which hasn't helped either.

Any ideas?

How do remote View thin clients use local network for Internet?

$

We have recently installed a new View system at our home site in our VMware 5.5 server farm. The thin clients (HP 610) we use to run View perform great as local user stations and surf the Internet quite well over our 100Mb T-1. Obviously, that type of performance was to be expected from a local client. As we've started deploying our thin clients to some of our remote sites, (their desktops are being served to each thin client over a secure BOVPN connection from the remote sites firewalls to our home site), the users have began to complain more and about their thin units performance, especially when surfing the Internet. Recently, I had an opportunity to visit a remote site so I took a look a their complaints, especially surfing the Internet. When they were accessing apps and services hosted at our home site, the performance seemed adequate to me. When surfing the Internet, I had to agree with them. It is slower. When I examined the home site firewall's traffic monitor, it appeared the remote thin clients were surfing the Internet through the home site firewall instead of going out their own firewall. Has anyone else seen this and/or is this normal behavior? I realize the View VMs are running at our home site it would make sense for them to access the Internet as I've described. My question is, can I configure our remote thin clients to use their sites' own firewall for Internet access instead of our home site firewall? They should only be talking our home site for View and internal apps. Thanks in advance for any help. Everyone have a great 4th of July.

But if I add the application manually, there are something wrong the application show up only "A" icon. If I add more applications, the icon are the same picture. -- see an attachment below.

Serial Port Redirection in Horizon View...

Hi there,

Do any of you out there have requirements for Serial Port Redirection in Horizon View?

If so, could you share with me some of the specific serial devices that you would like to use along with the controlling software and any pertinent configuration information needed (eg specific baud rates or other such things)?

Also, over what sort of network links would you need to operate it, and what guest/client OS requirements would you have?

cheers

Just purchased a Chromebook to access my hosted virtual desktop through the vmware view client.  I do not see a download for the Chromebook.  Is there a solution for this issue or is the Chromebook just not supported.  It is the perfect option for my virtual desktop access.  I have been using the client with a Windows laptop previously.  Please help.  Thank You.

Persona management major issue: user profile deleted sometimes

$

Hi,

We got some user profiles completely deleted over time. This happen very occasionnally, hopefully, but recently we have got a power outage that gave us the occasion to pinpoint the cause. Here how to reproduce the problem:

1-Stop sharing the Persona Management (PM) profiles shared folder (simulate network issue)

2-Login with an existing user (one with a profile already created ine the PM shared folder)

3-Renable PM shared folder

4-Logoff

Since the PM shared folder is not ready at login time, the user profile is not copy and a new empty one is created locally. When the PM shared folder becomes ready, the PM agent get access to it and create a lock file on it. When the user logoff is when the things gets bad... The agent seems mixup and delete all the user profile on the PM shared folder. The lock file stays there. The only way to recover is from backups...

How to prevent this if network issue occurs at login time? For sure we need to fix the problem on our shared folder becomes unavailable sometimes but for the moment I just want to disable PM agent if this happen at login time to prevent delete the user profile. How to tell PM agent to stop all operations IF the PM shared folder is not ready at login time?

This VMware KB seems similar but not really: User Profile content is deleted in Persona Management Share after logging in to VMware Horizon View (2082411)

Here the log attached when issue occurs.

Thanks

Horizon View Agent 6.0.2 Windows 8.1 Desktops - Adjusting screen size scale causes mouse pointer to be stuck in top-left corner

$

Hello,

I'm having some issues when I try to adjust the size scaling option in Windows 8.1 virtual desktop with View agent 6.0.2. When I try to change the scaling thru Control Panel -> Display -> Change the size of all items option (the Toggle Display Settings Control option is disabled per VMware KB: Settings tab is not available in the display control panel of a Horizon View desktop in local mode when t…). After I do this, the mouse pointer suddenly gets locked to the top-left corner, and I'm unable to move the mouse pointer out of that corner as the mouse pointer keeps jumping itself back into it. When I change the scaling back to the original (using keyboard to change the setting), the mouse pointer behavior returns to normal.

Anyone else having this issue?

Reusing Virtual Desktop Names in an Automated Pool

$

0

I have several automated pools setup for users at my company. When a users leaves we generally remove their virtual desktop and provision a new one for their replacement. I have noticed that the newly provision desktops are just added to the end of the list - they don't replace a removed desktop (if that makes sense). How can I reclaim and reuse virtual desktop names after a virtual desktop is removed?

Thanks in advance.
