PCoIP session freeze but rdp works in some special situations !

Hello All

i have installed a horizon view infrastructure with connection server and agent version 6.0.1 . everything was working well till i create some new pool for our developers . they are using Oracle tools and etc . we have more than 200 client in these pools , but about 10 percent of them get black screen randomly . i search too much and tried many things from timeouts , VGA , Firewall , ... but nothing works for me . then i started to focus on specific user and i got these :

1- if user start his desktop and work with normal apps , nothing happens . if he disconnect his session , he can get back and works again .

2- if user open Plsql ( or some similar apps )  and the apps crashes , if he disconnect the session and come back again , will get black screen . even if i End Task that crashed application , the same thing happens ! but if i logoff the session , no problem happens for next login !

3- in situation 2 , i can connect to that desktop with simple rdp ! and the system works fine . but i can not sign out that user with task manager !

so it seem that some situation make pcoip crashes . but even restating services or processes not worked for me . i have to restart that system ( it takes too long !) . one of my friend have the same problem with other versions . sometimes , when user disconnect the session , he cannot come back because of blank screen .

it is so painful for me . please help

( you can see these erro repeating after that crashe of pcoip :

View admin vCenter Server is "red" - how to troubleshoot

$

We did a SAN controller upgrade over the weekend. We had no issues there at all, but after the upgrade was done we saw view admin showing the vCenter Server service as "red". Restarting vCenter Server Service on the server resolved the issue and it went "green" about 5 minutes after the service was restarted. I came in this morning and the "red" status had returned, restarting the service brought it back to "green".

Is there an easy/good/best way to troubleshoot this? View Admin is completely useless for troubleshooting any "red" service issues. I've gone through logs, event viewer, bundles, etc and don't see anything that would tell me why View Admin thinks there is an issue. I can provision VM's, delete them, recompose, etc without issue. as far as I can tell vCenter is fine and it's making me wonder if its View Admin having the issue and not vCenter. What do you guys normally do to troubleshoot "red" statuses?

Vmware View Client - NLA/SSL - Home PC

Hi

We have a number of staff that use the VMWare View Client across our Juniper SSL to access their VMWare View session.

The problem I have is that I'd like to enable NLA and also SSL for the encryption on the VMWare View Desktops. However if I do that the staff can't connect from home with their client and reports a 1033 error.

I know there are some ADM templates to set settings for inside a domain for the VMWare View Client but this won't be possible as they are connecting from home PC's.

Is there a work round to this issue?

We are using VMWare View Server 5.2 withthe latest agents and view clients.

Thanks

Is there any way to require clients be a certain version on the secure gateway server? If not is there a way to see what version a session is using?

Disable Printing in View Desktops

Horizon View 6

Windows Server 2012 R2

I'd like to disable all printing (local, network, PDF) within a) one desktop pool respectfully, or b) all desktops pools.  How can this be done?  I saw where one can disable all USB access on one desktop pool within View Admin, but didn't see anything for printing.  Maybe this is done via Group Policy instead?

View registers different hostname in AD

We are running Horizon v5.3 in a vSphere 5.5 environment. I have noticed lately that when I build a large pool, sometimes the host names registered in AD DNS do not match the View generated names on the VM. We are using linked clones with a delete on logoff, no persistent disk configuration.  What components are involved in the name passing? Is it between the Composer and the View agent on the VM? I am not sure how this could be getting screwed up so intermittently. View_DNS.png

Security Server Clarification

We have been running a small VDI implementation for about two years and are on version 5.3. We now want to add remote access so I am setting up Security Server but could use some advice and/or clarification in a couple areas.

1. All the documentation I have read talks about setting it up in a DMZ. We do not use a DMZ. We have a Sonicwall at the perimeter and use NAT to access internal resources. In this case do we really need a Security Server or could I setup a NAT pointing to the Connection Server? Or do I still need to setup the Security Server behind the Sonicwall and NAT to it? (This is how I have it setup now, but not working yet).

2. I noticed in the View Manager that PCoiP is disabled on the Security Server unless in the Connection server the "Use PCoIP secure gateway for PCoIP connections to the desktop" is checked. Does this mean that if I implement Security Server all internal connection will go through it as well?

Thanks

How to disable the menu bar in Vmware Horizon view 3.3

We are installing a computer that will kind of be in Kiosk mode where the Windows Shell will be replaced to only run Vmware horizon view client. It will automatically connect to one single server. The users will have access to different Vms so we don't want the software to auto connect to a Vm. The problem is that we don't want the users to have access to the top bar that has the "disconnect server" and "options" buttons when they are at the VM selection screen.

Is there a way to hide or disable that top menu bar?

Thanks for the help guys!

Limiting Client Folder Redirection in 6.1.1

Hi All,

I would like to be able to give certain users access to Client Folder Redirection, but not others.  All users login to the same RDS server.  From looking at the VMware GPOs, it seems this setting can only be controlled on a server basis, not user.  Are their any work arounds?

Thanks!

I just started using the Horizon View Client on a Chromebook. Does anyone know if there is a keyboard mapping for the Windows key. CTRL + ALT + Backspace works like CTRL + ALT + DELETE, but I haven't found a way to do Windows shortcuts.

Random freezes with View 5.1.3

$

For quite a while, a customer we installed View 5.1.3 for has been experience seemingly random freezes, where a handful (just a few or nearly all) of the VMs will freeze (screen stays on, but is unresponsive) for 5-15 minutes. After a certain amount of time, they all begin working again, picking up where they were. Rebooting the client doesn't seem to help. This happens the same no matter what client is used. Most PCs are old XP systems running the 5.3.0 client but there are a few thin clients that experience the same problem.

The environment is a single connection server serving about 35 desktops. I turned on PCoIP Secure Gateway and that didn't help. Watching the performance of the VMs in vSphere Manager doesn't show any unusual high usage. The clients use kiosk mode to consistently get the same VM. When disconnected, the View client immediately begins attempts to reconnect. These are public-use PCs that are used for certain lengths of time (30-60 minutes or so) and then log off/disconnect from the VM.

Looking at the logs on the connection server, I have a couple concerns... such as these line:

2014-08-07T13:31:47.357-04:00 INFO  (0A70-0EE8) <Tracker:Heartbeat> [TrackerManager] (servername) Inbound queue stats: total=0, max=0, dropped=0

2014-08-07T13:31:47.357-04:00 INFO  (0A70-0EE8) <Tracker:Heartbeat> [TrackerManager] (servername) Outbound queue stats: total=36683, max=50, dropped=0

I couldn't find any explanation of this - the inbounds stay at 0 but the outbound just gets bigger and bigger as time goes by. This number was the server had been rebooted about four hours earlier. Should I be concerned that the total is much more than the max?

Looking farther into the logs, I see the following, about 30-40 minutes before the freezes began this day:

After this, things appear to calm down the the VMs begin working again.

I am leaning towards blaming the Java NullPointerException, as it only happens once during this day's log file and is suspiciously close (about 30 minutes before) to when the freezes happened. I'm not sure what I can do about that, though - do I need a specific Java runtime or does View use its own? It's currently got Java 7u67 on the Connection Server.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Update local Outlook during Horizon session?

$

So, on laptops, we have a script that shell replaces to run the view client when on our internal network. Ideally, we'd like the local Outlook to update its OST while the horizon view client is running so that when the user is offline/has no network or internet, they can still work on Outlook which will be as up-to-date as when they were last in the office.

We don't want them to have to log on locally to update it if poss.

I have tried a couple various ways of scripting an Outlook open then update in the back ground based on suggestions found on line but they never seem to work (mainly because Outlook doesn't seem to connect properly during the shell replace.

Anyone any code that might work at all or ideas as to how best to this - it'd be much appreciated!

View 6: Minimum number of ready machines during Composer operations not working

View 6.0.2.  Recently upgraded, but no other issues so far.

I noticed when I issued a recompose (with wait for users to log off) during the middle of the day it started recomposing all of my desktops (except for those with users logged in).  It did not leave any desktops in the "Available" or "Provisioned" state.  The minimum number of ready (provisioned) machines during View Composer maintenance operations is set to 5 under my pool settings.

Has anyone else ran into this or can verify this happens to them as well?

Can't set Computer Name as Virtual Machine Name with Customization Specification

Hello,

I've deployed an automated persisten pool of 2 desktops, whith a VM NAMING PATTERN whith VMWARE View Administrator 3.0.0 build-127642.

I did it with the Windows Guest Customization Wizard without a Custom Sysprep Answer File and it worked fine, I got 2 desktops with the same Computer name and Virtual Machine name.

I noticed that I have to change the regional settings on every desktop, then I made a Sysprep Answer File with the desired Regional Settings, but when I deployed the Computer Name and the Virtual Machine name are differents.

Why I can't set the VM naming pattern to Computer names whith a Sysprep Answer File? Is there an easy way to solve it?

Here is my Sysprep Answer File:

Replica Connection Server and Secondary Security Server - Horizon View 5.32

$

As of now, our environment consists of 1 Connection Server and 1 Security Server. We have been expanding and have seen the need to have a Replica Connection server for fail-over. (Probably way later than it should be.) With that being said, I plan to build out the Replica Connection server and am wondering if I need to build out a Secondary Security server. I have read that if I have a Secondary Connection server that I need a Secondary Security server, but since this is technically just a "Replica Connection Server" does it still need another Security Server.

Also, with that being said, I was told by VMWare that I could stand up the Replica Connection server with no impact on uptime on the Primary Connection Server. I assume that is true. If I do need a Secondary Security Server, is that same statement also true?

I tried this KB VMware KB: Manually deleting linked clones or stale virtual desktop entries from the View Composer database in VMwar…
and machine with that name is not existing in ADAM or composer DB.
