Time Zone Changing

$

We have an issue with Horizon View, Thin Clients, and Imprivata that we need some help with.  Some of our VM's in the pool are reporting a time change (from Central to Pacific time).  One Pool of roaming computers and the only ones that seem to be affected are the one that have SSO and the ones accessing the pool from a Windows Embedded Thin Client.  It's ot even all of them.  We can change teh Time zone back to Central and it seems to get changed back.  We do this on the Thin client and the VM but it seems to always change back.  Here is the question that I have. If the Time Zone change changes on teh thin client how does the VM change?  Isn't the VM time zone set from the Master image?  These computers are in the operating room so time is critical.  We are looking at all options but thought i would start here.  Any info or comments are welcome.  Thanks

View 5.3 Connection Server/Security Server OS compatibility

Hi,

I can't seem to find the documentation on what OS is supported to be installed on a 5.3 Connection Server/Composer/Security Server. Can someone point me to this or let me know if 2012 R2 is supported as the base operating system for this? Also if there is min. requirements for mem/cpu that would be great as well.

Thanks!

USB Redirection not working

I have a Windows 8.1 laptop where USB Redirection isn't working when logging in using Horizon View Client. I have tried 3.3, 3.2, 3.0 and even 2.3.3 of Horizon View Client on the laptop. The first time I installed 3.2 USB Redirection was available, however once I reconnected it wasn't working.

We are using View Agent 5.3 on our virtual machines.

I have tested a laptop with Windows 7, View Client 3.3 and USB Redirection works. I also used another laptop with Windows 8.1 and View Client 3.3 and USB Redirection works on it.

Is there a setting on the laptop and I'm missing that could be left even though I uninstall the View Client? I have made sure UAC is turned off. I also turned off the firewall to see if that was causing any issues. Any ideas?

Bluetooth Redirection with Imprivata

We are expanding out VDI environment and at the same time we are implementing Imprivata into the mix.  We have a bunch of mobile stations that will travel between patient rooms that have hand held scanners attached to them.  I tested out one laptop with the latest client and View and teh redirection seems to work just fine.  However, the vendor that we have to go thru to use Imprivata is only capable of using View client 5.4.  Redirection works on that version but the scanner needs setup each time it opens a new desktop.  That requires scanning in the code to the new desktop and we can't have users doing this every time.  Was curious if there is some type of work-a-round that would rectify this issue.  Any questions or comments are welcome.  Thanks

Then after that desktop finally completed creating local user profile and say "let's start", i used "gpresult /r" and realized that the computer group policy did not applied.  then in the same running desktop  i tried "gpupdate /force"  the computer policy could download and apply.

My pool is a floating pool. the pool setting is :   Capture1.PNG  and i already tried recomposed the pool, no luck, delete all desktops then recomposed, no luck!!

HTML Access Questions and Oddities.

First question is when I click on the menu bar along the top on an html access desktop, I only have the Disconnect option and not Disconnect and Log off. Is it no longer an option in Horizon 6 or do i need to enable it somewhere?

Second question: when using IE 11 to access html desktops, when i log off (standard windows logoff seeing as I don't have the above option), the desktop logs off but the windows stays open and display the message 'Your desktop has been disconnected. Attempting to reconnect to desktop...'.It never reconnects to the desktop and i don't want it to either as I want to log off. If I use chrome, the window closes and takes me back to the desktop selection page which is what I'd like in IE. Anyone seen this, is there a workaround? Tried compatibility mode, trusted sites etc.

Third question: when logging off a desktop, the desktop selection page seems to time out quite quickly and I have to log in again to see the list of desktops I am entitled to. Where is the timeout setting for the html client? I can see a timeout for the actual desktop session in View administrator which is currently set as the default of 600 minutes,

Post-synchronisation script: runs before or after initial snapshot?

$

We know the script is execute at first VM creation time, at rebalance, recompose and refresh operation. In the View documentation, it said Quickprep runs in the customization phase and at the end the snapshot for that VM is taken (vdm-initial-checkpoint). But if Quickprep is execute during customization phase, it should run the post-synchronisation script too before the snapshot takes place?

If the answer is "after the snapshot", how can we run a script before? For example, we want to deploy a big software on in each VM with silent install and this takes aroud 7 minutes to complete. Very too long if this happen at each refresh time... I know we can include this software in our master image, this will save space I know BUT this will create a new replica. We have around 10 computer labs with différents softwares in each and for simplicity we try everything to keep the less possible master images, it is a lot easier to maintain. Usually we use ThinApp, Appv to achieve this but this software could not be virtualisez. Someone can help or have some clue?

USB redirection not working, port 32111 connection refused

I am unable to get USB redirection to work in either windows 7 or windows 8 guests, from windows 7 or windows 8 clients. I believe the problem is related to the below excerpt from horizon log file on client

VM View, SunRay2 terminals - Sun Server needed ?

Just a quick general question here ;

We're in the process of planning our new VM View system, we plan to use SunRay 2 terminals to connect to the users desktops.

My question is;

Do we need to purchase the SunServer software so that the SunRays2's can connect to VM View ? ie SunServer is acting like a broker/bridge to connect the terminals to VM View ?

Thanks in advance..

vCenter temporarily disabled/enabled

In VMWare Horizon View Administrator we are currently seeing events being logged continuously relating to vCenter at address being temporarily disabled and almost immediately afterward vCenter at address is enabled.

vCenter at address
${VCAddress} has been temporarily disabled

vCenter at address
${VCAddress} has been enabled

I can find little about these events other than they exist from the documentation library. Are they related to an account problem? If anyone can advise.

Many Thanks

VMWare View issues

In our medical clinics we use VMware View to connect to our EMR.  Some users can connect fine, others cannot.  Those who cannot receive an error message:

"The display protocol for this desktop is currently not available.  Please contact your system administrator."

For two days, some users have been receiving this message.  Initially when logging in, the user seems to authenticate properly and gets a number of "desktop" choices.  Upon choosing a desktop and clicking connect, a black screen appears.  This is just before the remote desktop should appear and begin loading.  Then a time out message appears.  Upon re-trying the connection we get the display protocol error.

I remoted into a workstation tonight at 11 PM, and everything works as expected right now.  On Monday, I worry that these issues will arise again, thinking that we have a resource issue of some sort, or a network connection issue.  So far our IT department has been pretty unresponsive.  So, I'm trying to find some answers.  We are using a mix of client versions, on up through Horizon 5.4.1.

Here are some questions, in random order:

1.  Could this be due to a "busy network" during the daytime?  Maybe there is a slow Internet connection cause a time out?

2.  Is this most likely a problem on the server side?  I'm trying to rule out any problems on the client side.

3.  All are Windows 7 Pro client machines, where VMware View worked earlier in the week.  I suspect IT made some un-announced changes on the server side.  What questions should I ask them?

Thank you,

Jeff King

With internal and external Horizon View clients, do I *have* to have at least one Connection Server per connection type?

$

If I want both external, non-VPN and internal LAN users to access View desktops, do I have to have a Connection Server dedicated to external users and a separate for internal? Right now I have a single Security Server-Connection Server pair and external connections work fine but internal connections do not. Do I have to stand up at least one Replica Connection Server and modify the HTTPS Secure Tunnel URL for internal users only?

usb redirection for windows 2008 r2 - we need it now

$

Hello all,

We have classrooms based on thin clients (some of them old XP PC's) running rdp to Windows 2008 R2.

I have a budget for upgrade with a very short deadline. My prefered option is to buy Zero Clients (teradici), connect them to the existing servers (RDS with PCOIP).

This would give us a practical interim solution till we can set up a provisioned environment.

We set up a test environment, and this works great for everything but for the flash drives.

The only service we need is for students to be able access their usb "disk on key"s storage. But this service is critical.

After searching the cause of the problem I found Peter Brown's excellent white paper, which states:

USB Redirection and RDS-Hosted Applications and Desktops

Horizon with View does not yet support USB redirection with RDS-hosted applications and desktops, which are

multi-session. USB redirection is supported only with single-session View.

So here is the question. What does mean "not yet" in the above sentence ? If a solution is in sight (till the beginning of the academic year) we can go for this. If not, I really don't know how to work around it.

Any help or insight much appreciated !

Horizon View menu issues in VM

$

Hello.

I've been trying to figure out an issue with VMs generated by Horizon View.  One of our applications has issues rendering menus.  When I click on File and move my pointer down to choose anything, the menu disappears as I move the pointer down.  If I move the mouse to where Exit is, when I click it, nothing happens because the menu is no longer there.

The same issue shows up when right clicking on items within this app, I find an asset, right click on it (say I want to rename it) and when I move my pointer anywhere on the menu it disappears.  I have been doing some tests and here is what I know so far.

When creating the master image, the application works 100% fine prior to the installation of the View agent.  With just vmware tools installed I can open the app and the menus behave as expected.

I have tried view agents 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3 in both 32 and 64 bit Windows 7.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

4-5 seconds delay starting published applications with RDSH

$

I'm troubleshooting an issue where starting an application from a RDSH server with Horizon View is taking 12 seconds. No UEM or profile management is being used, just plain local profiles. I've captured some data with xperf and I can see a 4 to 5 seconds delay between the session create and the actual user logon. The only 2 processes started during that delay are pcoip_server_win32.exe and VMwareView-Rdeserver.exe. When I look at the VMware View debug log, I can see the following error during the delay:

2015-05-12T11:13:14.963+02:00 DEBUG (0190-0B20) <MessageChannel ReceiveThread> [MessageFrameWork] Unable to locate queue PCoIPVChan-SVR(2) with hint MESSAGE_IPC.

2015-05-12T11:13:14.963+02:00 DEBUG (0190-0D50) <MessageChannel ReceiveThread> [MessageFrameWork] Unable to locate queue PCoIPVChan-SVR(0) with hint MESSAGE_IPC.

2015-05-12T11:13:15.182+02:00 DEBUG (0190-0B20) <MessageChannel ReceiveThread> [MessageFrameWork] Unable to locate queue PCoIPVChan-SVR(2) with hint MESSAGE_IPC.

This error is logged multiple times during the delay. What can cause this error and is probably the cause of the delay?

Server is: Windows 2008R2
