Hi All,

I have a few persistent data disks that must be left over from a few pools that no longer exist.  I can't detach them and i can't even remove them via the ADAM database.  When i follow KB2007076

and do the query for the datadisks nothing shows up.  But, they are in the admin console.  Anyone have any ideas??  Thanks

Clones hanging on Configuration

I hope this is the right forum. Apologies if it's not.

First off my setup:

  • I'm using VMWare View Manager 4.0, vSphere 4.0, and VMWare ESX 4.0.0.
  • I'm trying to setup some Windows XP 64-bit machines to use with our thin clients.
  • The 64-bit XP template is using VMWare Tools 8.3.7.

Here's my problem: I get the template going, I get it to join the the Active Directory, the new machines build from the template, but VMWare View Manager never registers getting past Customizing. The machines register with the AD server, they get a name that even shows up on vSphere, but the Customizing never goes away until it changes to Error.

I had McAfee 8.something installed but I have removed it. I turned the firewalls off within XP. I was able to telnet to ports 3389, 4001, and 8009 on the View Manager server. As far as I can tell there's nothing blocking communications between machines and the server. When I set the customization script to login as the local Administrator it does.

What am I doing wrong? What can I do to fix this?

I'm about ready to just ditch the VMWare customization and write my own customization script  that fires off when admin logs in. Any suggestions or pointing to documentation I've missed would be welcome.

Thanks.

Issues with Accessibilty APIs in Windows 7 desktop running in View?

$

I've got a document management application from Laserfiche and a companion app called Connector that uses the Windows Accessibility API to link on-screen data in an application to a Laserfiche search. Laserfiche provides a tool to create a profile that identifies the application, window name (or URL if the app is IE) and the controls you want to use. When that app is active and on the window/URL you've specified, there's a small button Connector adds to the title bar of the app. Click the button and it scrapes the contents of the control you defined and passes that data to a Laserfiche search.

Works great on a physical desktop - not so much on my VDI desktops. The behavior there is erratic. Sometimes it gets window/control info, other times it seems not be hooking into any of the window data at all. Even trying to kill the app on a VDI desktop causes it to hang. I tried to isolate the problem by  uninstalling the Horizon View Agent (6.0.1) on one of my desktops and viola, problem disappeared. The app consistently gets the window/control info it needs and works every time, so it looks like the View Agent is doing something that interferes with Connector getting the info (Windows messages?) it needs.

I have a ticket open with Laserfiche but I fully expect to get the "Not supported on View" answer, so I'm wondering if anyone else has had any similar issues with apps that use the Accessibility APIs, or if there is any "tuning" I can do with the View Agent to make Connector play nicely with View.

I have a couple of users who after a recompose of their view desktop the runas command no longer works and instead when trying to runas they get an error "The system cannot find the file specified".   It is the same couple of users after every recompose.   We have unassigned the users and assigned them to different machines and same issue after the next recompose.   We assigned to a new machine and didn't allow the profile to be copied and still same issue.

Warning from view 5.1 the pending session on machine xx for user xx has expired...

I have a user that is running View Client 5.1 on her desktop and when she tries to connet to one of the machines in her designated pool the screen goes black and I see connection timeout error after about 5 seconds. She has entitlement rights to the pool. This has happened to other users but then suddenly they are able to connect. All these connections are internal. Our environnment consist of 4 connection servers and two security servers. Two of the connection servers are external and two are internal. The two external connection servers have PcoIP Secure Gateway for PCoIP connections to desktop enabled while the two internal connection servers do not have this enabled. I doubt its these settings becasue this is an internal connection.   Firewall is open

I have an issue with Microsoft Lync 2013 in a HTML5 session. I can not change my status. It will stay on "away". Is this caused because Windows cannot detect activity when connected through blast?

RDP Pool with multiple monitors

I would like to verify is I am understanding this correctly.  I have a Pool created with Windows 7 Professional desktops with RDP version 8.1 installed.  If I try to connect from a View client that has 2 monitors into the RDP Pool, the entire View desktop spans over both monitors.  I cannot have 2 independent monitors.  Maximized applications stretch both monitors rendering the application all but useless due to the extreme resolution.  The only way to get get independent monitors (like PCoIP does) to work and not stretch over 2 monitors is to use Windows 7 Enterprise or Ultimate with RDP 7.x or higher in a View RDP Pool?

RSA 2k limit - manual upload issue

We're on view 5.2 and trying to update the SDCONF.REC to point to our new 8.1 RSA servers. The new file is 2.66kb, so I'm trying to follow the steps in the KB article below. But after I get into the ADAM database, I can make it to OU=Properties,DC=vdi,DC=vmware,DC=int but there is no OU=Server option to browse to next. There are just a lot of GUID= values but no OU= anywhere within OU=Properties. I found OU=Servers,DC=vdi,DC=vmware,DC=int (without the OU=Properties portion of the path) but neither path lets me see the CN I need to see. Any ideas? Am I missing something obvious?

vmwsci.dll causing applications to crash

$

I'm testing View Horizon 6.0 and have come up with a weird issue.

My VMs applications (Internet Explorer, Media Player, ....) keep crashing when I close them stating that the Application stopped working.

In Windows event viewer Application log and Event ID 1000 is raised, stating the application crashed trying to unload the module vmwsci.dll

Looking at the vmwsci.dll, it is from VMware .  Description states that is VMware Horizon View Agent PCoIP Smart Cart Interception DLL.

The thing is that when I installed the agent, I didn't install the smart card portion of the agent, so why is the dll still installed?

Also, if I rename the dll. to vmwsci.dll.000, the VM works perfectly fine.

any Ideas?

Horizon View Client - Closing doesn't stop application

$

We have used some small PCs as thinclients for connecting to View and now Horizon View.  When we use the Horizon View Client (currently using 3.3.0) and the application is closed, the UI disappears but the software does not close.  The application can be viewed in taskmanager as still running.  The reason this is a problem is multifold.  We have the machines setup as a semi kiosk system.  They boot into windows, autologon to windows with a specified user, and run a batch file that restarts the View Client upon it being closed.  The batch file will not start the View Client when it is "closed" by the user as the UI disappears but the software continues to run.

The View Client is started with serverURL, desktopName, connectUSBOnInsert, and connectUSBOnStartup .  Our goal is to have the thinclient pc to be at view client login prompt without user interaction.  This worked until the Horizon View Client.  If a user hits cancel to the connection or a user connects to a desktop and logs off the desktop, the view UI promptly disappears and the user is presented with a blank windows screen (since the command prompt is waiting on vmware-view.exe to close).

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!

Has anyone disabled TLS 1.0 and only enabled 1.2 for their connection servers? Our compliance people want this to happen, we already have 1.2 enabled but haven't disabled TLS 1.0 yet.

Vmware Horizon View Agent Upgrade.

Hello Guys,

I just wanted to ask if someone had encounter issues upgrading vmware view agent on the base image?. We just upgraded our view environment from version 5.2 to version 6.0.0 and I'm seeing error:1920  while upgrading two of our base image. I was able to upgrade the rest of the base image with no issues though. I'm not sure if this KB VMware KB: VMware View Agent fails to uninstall still applies to version 6.0.0 since if I disable vmware view composer guest agent server service, It wont let windows firewall start since its dependent to this service and view agent 6.0.0 needs firewall to be started to install.

I would really appreciate any response.

TIA.

Horizon View error "Smart Card or Certificate authentication is required" and missing PIN prompt

$

Please help, I have created an AD domain controller and added my CAC card root and intermediate certs to the NT Auth store, followed KB 2013044, making sure I extracted the certs in the correct format, placed them in a folder and ran the command line to generate my keystore and create my locked.properties file.  My parent and floating pool images all have the certs installed and the view agent with pcoip smart card enabled.  If I set View Connection server setting to required I get "... authentication is required" and optional never prompts me for the PIN.

There is no error messages in the VDM log from my client machine, and if I access the VM using RDP with my CAC in, I get prompted for my PIN, and I am able to successfully log into the workstation.  I have rebooted my DC and the View Connection Server but still get the same error messages.

What other steps can I try or am I missing?

Recompute Virtual Disk Digest

I am currently running Horizon View 6.0.0 build-1884746. I am constantly seeing  tasks for "Recompute Virtual disk digest". In ALL of my desktop pools, the blackout periods are set (Mon-Fri 6:00 - 18:00), yet this has been continuously happening DURING the blackout period. As I write this post, this process has occurred 100 times, yet there are only 38 virtual machines running on this server. In addition, there are only 3 templates on this server.

The blackout period started at 6:00 this morning, and the first "Recompute Virtual disk digest" started at 6:44:41. Please see attached pictures showing the scheduled blackout periods (Desktop pools.png) and the task list from vSphere showing when the processes started (vSphere.png).

Thanks!

Persona Management/Internet Explorer 10 - Random freezing/processes not terminating

$

Hello,

We are running Windows 7 64-bit machines with Internet Explorer 10. We've noticed sporadic issues in the last few months where Internet Explorer randomly becomes unresponsive when launching. The only way we have of resolving is to either clear the cache on the machine, reboot, or clear the Local directory in the user's profile from their machine, in addition to the Local folder on the share we use for Persona Management. This also clears up the issue where the iexplore.exe process will not end, despite the application being closed.

We haven't seen this happen on machines where Persona Management is not set up. It seems like Persona Management is causing some corruption with the local web cache, but we haven't been able to pinpoint exactly how. Any suggestions?

CAC Certificate Preference / Identity Preference on Mac

$

I originally posted this in the Horizon forum, but realized I may have put it in the wrong place.

Is it possible to use Keychain Access Identity Preferences to configure the Horizon View Client to select a predetermined certificate/username and password when connecting to a server?

For example, if I am attempting to connect to a server, the application will get the log-in information from the Keychain and process, or at least pre-fill the username or select a certificate that is setup within Keychain.

I know this is pretty simple to do for a web site, but did not know if this is supported with Horizon View Client.

There is the setting to remember the credentials within the Horizon View Client app, but since there are multiple certificates on the smart card I need to use, there is a warning that it won't work; which is why I'm looking into the feasibility of setting this up through Keychain.

Thanks in advance.

Horizon View VM locked and then RDP disconnects

$

I have a user who normally uses a zero client (HP t310 specifically).  He locks his workstation (thin client) and goes away.  When he tries to get connected to his VM via RDP it disconnects him.

It should be noted that Teradici reported an issue that sounded almost exactly like this one with their PCoIP Workstation Access Software that is resolved in the 2.0 GA.  (bug 21129)  The problem is that we're not using the Workstation Access Software so this has to be somewhere else.  I've attached his zero client logs.

Some additional info:

View Agent is 6.0.2.2331487

Connection Server 6.0.1.2088845

ESXi version 5.5.0, 2456374

Virtual Display adapter VMware SVGA

Windows 7 Professional
