Vmware View Horizon HTML access - Branding the Landing Page

$

Hi I had a question about branding the landing page for HTML Access. Want to change the Background, Logo and such and this looks to be a kernel created page where we can do branding of all the other pages. Have not been able to figure out how to modify the elements of this page. Any recommendations? Or advice on how another page can be set as default instead of the default landing page so we can make our own landing page to sit in front of the default VMware  landing page?

I appreciate any info

Thank you

Jesse

Any ideas

First time full fat clones -

I have deployed a view 6 environment full fat clients from my gold image template, 10 desktops created no issue there, have gone to expand the pool size to 20 using my standard naming pattern upto 20 machines and nothing happended.

Decided to create a new pool automated dedicated with a new gold image and template fine, finished the config and still no new desktops have been created.

Notes: gold image vm's were converted to a template

there is enough storage

pool is Enable provisioning

Stop provisioning on error - NO ERRORS

Any ideas please.

Reasoning behind disabling power button on Virtual desktop

$

We have classrooms set up with zero clients connecting to a View 5.3.1 infrastructure, and have had one of our teachers complain that they cannot do a 'shutdown' on the client (this is a beginning Windows class, they want to show how to power off a PC).  This is due to a Group Policy enforced in AD, but I was wondering about the reasoning behind that choice.  If this floating pool were allowed to shut their VMs down, wouldn't View just restart them (since we have the pool set to be 'always powered on')?  If this is the case, would having them shut the VMs down possibly cause a boot storm, slowing that pool down?  Just trying to work on arguments as to why this GP was implemented in the first place.

"Agent unreachable" after upgrade to View 6.1

Hello,

I had VMware View 5.3 with 21 virtual desktops and everything was working good. But I needed a feature only available to View 6.

After upgrade to 6.1 (composer, connection server and agents) some virtual desktop's agent appears at state "Agent unreachable" and with CPU at 100%. Some of that virtual desktops returns to normal state after few hours but some of them only return to normal state after a reset.

All the virtual desktops are Windows 8.1.

What could be the issue?

Thank you.

Hello,

some idea or suggestion about the possible cause of the problem? and a possible solution?

Black screen on boot after installing view agent 6.0 or 6.1

$

I've ran into an issue with the latest versions of the client and agent that I cannot resolve. I first discovered this when installing the 6.1 agent in a windows 8.1 Enterprise VM, upon boot the ctrl+alt+delete screen would flash, then black. Pressing ctrl+alt+del would trigger the lock screen to flash, and then back to black. The only work around I found was to first install 5.3.3, then upgrade to 6.1, however this does not work in server 2012r2 since <6 is not compatible.

The continuance of this is that the same release generation of view client 3.3, causes the same behavior on a physical machine, and the only resolution was to boot into safemode and disable the view-client startup application.

If i connect to the guest with the client, after solving the issue on the physical PC, I get the same behavior on the lock screen as I do in vsphere client console.

Has anyone delt with this and been successful in resolving since I'd rather use 2012r2 datacenter due to licencing. I have even assigned 512mb video memory to the VM and vmware tools is up to date.

VMware View assigned to devices

Hello,

I am testing out VMWare View and wanted to know if it was possible to assign a VM desktop to a particular device (thin client) vs tied to a user.  Example: When a user logs into a VM desktop from thin client “A” they will be connected to VM “A”.  When that user is finished they can log off and the next user will log in and they will be connected to the same VM desktop “A”.  Pretty much like it was a physical PC.   Is this possible?  It seems I can only tie desktops to users and not actually the thin client devices.

Thx

Retain Application / Profile Setting in Floating Pools

$

Hello @ all

I have a question for the following Situation/Setup:

I have a floating pool of linked clones. Folder redirection is set up with the persona management adm-files (on the template) to send among other things the "AppData" to a network share which is mounted at logon. This works without a hitch for the "Documents" folder and others.

The problem now is that when a user who was connected to PC1 and configured MS Outlook to use his e-Mail account (or any other application) does not get this configuration when he gets connected to another PC from that pool (it is a Floating pool after all). In other words he has to configure it once again on another computer. The same Situation occures if the virtual desktops are recomposed.

I hope someone can help me with this.     Is there something else required besides the policy settings? If yes I would really appreciate some pointers in the right direction.

Thank you in advance

Martin

View persona suddenly has deleted profiles on share, and creating a hidden folder like this: {d24f2895-651a-40cc-8e5c-c037b9994104}

Can anyone help me with this?

we are still on 5.3, but all of a sudden some users are reporting that their desktop icons etc has dissapeard.

When looking at the share, some users only have a hidden folder called something like: {d24f2895-651a-40cc-8e5c-c037b9994104}

And inside that folder is a {d24f2895-651a-40cc-8e5c-c037b9994104}.DB file and a LOCK.{d24f2895-651a-40cc-8e5c-c037b9994104} file.

That`s it

From the VMWvp_Status.txt file on the VM that the user is logged on, I cannot see any specific error messages relating to this.

It seems to be getting the policy as well, cause the log file is listing up all folders that should be excluded and such.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Horizon 6 Session Disconnects

We have production machines that run three shifts seven days a week.  Up until now we have had the forcibly disconnect setting set so that they never disconnect.  After upgrading to Horizon 6 they now disconnect approx. every 20 hours even when set to Never in Global Settings.  Is there a work around that anyone here is aware of?

Floating Pool - Adding new Devices

First all I'm new to the site however not totally new to VMWare just VMView. The original administrator for the our view environment setup a Floating Pool however I cannot figure how to add a device.

Usually when I go Pool>Inventory> Add I  search for the newly created workstation and add it to the pool, however with this pool I'm presented with a different with screen that states the following:

Enter Desktop Names

Enter names that will be used to create new virtual machines.

Each line must contain a unique desktop name. Optionally, for dedicated pools, a user name can be specified also. User names will be ignored for floating pools.

I attempted to add the new workstation it shows up in the pool then it disappears.

Thanks,

Mike

Post Synchronization Script With Linked Clone Desktops- View 6

Hi All,

New to the board here, but I've learned a lot thus far.  I have a question regarding post-synchronization scripts.  I created two windows bath files.  One, just calls the second one.  In my second batch file, I've received help on scripting a netsh command to change the IP Address, Gateway, Subnet Mask, and DNS Servers based on the computer name.  The script works when I run it manually.  When I login to the VM, I can check the temp files and see that the log says that is started the .bat file; however, it doesn't says if it has ever completed it.  I don't receive any error codes either.  I'm very puzzled by this and would appreciate any help with this.

I've attached the two files that I've been using...

Thank you all.

P.S. In my PostSync.bat file, I call another file that is sitting in the directory, so I know that part of the code works as well.  This file lists the computer names, ip addresses, and etc.

Horizon View 6 - Persona Management - Folder Redirection and Roaming & Synchronization

I'm having a quirky issue with the PMView.  This is what I see:

- Log as test user with Horizon View client (1st time)

- View Desktop loads Windows, and shows desktop (30-45 seconds)

(During this step, I see the profile and redirected folders are created correctly)

- Log off test user

- Log back in with the same test user (2nd time)

- View Desktop loads Windows, shows the "Welcome" screen, and then a black screen.

(During this step, I see the profile repository get "recreated" (i.e., the folders/files get deleted, and then recreated...))

- After 1-2 minutes later, the desktop shows up

This seems like an odd behavior to me, and it's probably related to how I've created my PMview.

This is what I have:

vGPU/ESXi 6.0 "Hardware GPU is required but not available"

Hi there,

I'm having problems powering up a VM that is configured with hardware 3D rendering. It throws an error "Hardware GPU is required but not available. The virtual machine will not start until GPU resources are available or the virtual machine is configured to allow software rendering". I've upped the VM hardware version from 9 to 11 just to see if it made any difference.

I've looked around and various folks have had different issues but the good people here ask for the same info so hopefully providing it below will help.

Surface Pro 2 cannot connect to view externally crashes network connection - very odd

Good Morning,

So we are running View 6 on vSphere 5.5.  We have a users that has a surface pro 2 and when in the office connects to his dedicated desktop just fine, when he tries to connect via the internet he can connect to the view security server, enter credentials, be presented his desktop, as soon as he selects his desktop it starts to open and then the view client crashes and it also crashes the surface pro 2 wi-fi connection  This is highly repeatable.  To make things even a bit more odd anyone else can connect to that same desktop just fine and use it all day, and to go one more step if we assign this particular user a different dedicated or linked clone he can connect just fine using the surface pro 2.  This one is kicking my $%^&&*&.  We have even tried using RDP with no success as well to this particular desktop on the surface pro 2.  It is currently running the vmware vmxnet3 NIC but have also tried the IntelPro NIC as well with the same result.  We have also verified that the Networking Host Fix for Windows 7 is installed.

  Any thoughts?

TIA,

Jim

Cannot logoff while Windows session is locked

Hi,

I have thought this was by design since I cant find any information about this.

But this is there a workaround so that the View client can still logoff user even if the session is locked?

The only way to logoff for the user is to unlock Windows and logoff from View client menu.

We use Windows 8.1 with VMware View 5.3.1.

Linked-clones non-persistent pool

Windows Server 2012 R2

NB: We have removed the logoff button in Windows because we want only one way(from View client) for users logoff to keep simplicity.

Control-Alt-Delete screen appears - not being bypassed after logging on

$

Good day,

Within our company we use VMware View for our VDI (Windows 7 Enterprise). An issue we currently have with this enviroment is that when a user logs on to Windows, he recieves the "Control-Alt-Delete" screen. When the user is pressing "Control-Alt-Delete", Windows will start loading the profile, without having the user to enter his Windows credentials. So in this scenario, the "Control-Alt-Delete" screen is completely pointless, as the user fills in his credentials on the Zero Client or within the VMware View client, which are being passed to Windows succesfully.

We have no idea where to look at to fix this annoying issue. Colleagues who also deployed VDI have no issues: the user logs on and Windows will 'bypass' the "Control-Alt-Delete" screen. This is the way I'd like to set it up too. I have also checked the group policies, but none of them have any settings that might affect the "Control-Alt-Delete" welcome screen.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance!

desktop power off VM policy

we would like to have the power policy for a desktop pool set to always power off the VM (low on resources)

my question is what happens when a user tries to connect to their VM. (static assignments) and the VM is powered off. Will the view client initiate a power on or will the connection fail?

thanks,
