SSL error during smart card login, Horizon 3.2 for Mac

$

We finally have smart card support in the Mac client!  Unfortunately, I'm seeing terribly inconsistent results when trying to connect and curious if it's just our environment or perhaps a bug in the client itself.  Occasionally, after entering my smart card PIN, it connects right up no problem.  However, more times than not, it will bomb out with "Error: An SSL error occurred".  Connecting to our smart card required security server from a Windows client seems to have no problems so I'm inclined to believe this is a client issue.  Anyone else seeing this?

On a related note, I am able to still authenticate to our other security server using a different 2-factor method and once authenticated, my smart card passes through no problem to things like the RDP client and ultimately, that's more important to me than actually logging in with my smart card.

How to use vGPU and vSGA both on same vSphere 6.0 host

I have been testing vGPU on a vSphere 6.0 host with Horizon 6.1, and I now want to add a vSGA pool to this host. Only two physical GPU's are being used with the two vGPU vm's I have powered on.

My question is, what do I need to do to make this host allow vSGA-enabled VM's to power on and share resources on the other two remaining GPU's?  I set the desktop pool to use "Hardware" 3D Renderer and added one VM to the pool.

When I try to power on this VM, I get this error message in vSphere Web client:

"Hardware GPU is required but not available. The virtual machine will not start until GPU resources are available or the virtual machine is configured to allow software rendering."

This is the gpuvm and nvidia-smi command line output:

gpuvm_nvidia-smi.png

The ESXi 6.0 host has two GRID K2 cards for a total of 4 GPU's. Only two vGPU-enabled vm's are powered on, so it would seem I can use the other two GPU's for vSGA VM's, right?

higher PCoIP supported 3D resolutions?

I was wondering if the maximum resolution or Max number of monitors supported has now increased with Horizon 6.1 and vSphere 6.0 vGPU technology?  It still seems to only show 2 monitors up to 1920 x 1200 resolution in the pool properties, when choosing PCoIP and 3D renderer.  We have some users with larger monitors and 2560 x 1440 resolution.

Siemens PLM NX 10 and Siemens Teamcenter Visualization 10

Hi,

We have setup an demo environment with Horizon View and Grid Cards. The environment is as follow

2 x FUJITSU PRIMERGY RX2540 M1 (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2660 v3 @ 2.60GHz, 196GB Memory)

Fujitsu Eternus SSD storage connected with Fiber Channel

Running vsphere 5.5.0.update02-2143827-v320-1 and Horizon View 6.0.1 build-2088845

One host with Nvidia Grid K1 and the other host with K2 card.

We have configured the K1 card as vSGA and the K2 card as vDGA.

The host with vSGA are running the version 340.32

The vms that are configured for vDGA are using the driver "347.52-quadro-grid-desktop-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql"

The demo environment we are testing the applications Siemens PLM NX 10 and Siemens Teamcenter Visualization 10.

We tried to use a vm on the vSGA that is sharing K1 card, but that was to slow, and not able to work with this. What im wondering about is should it work with vSGA on a K1 card?

We tried to use a vm on the vDGA that have K2 card dedicated, and it is working ok, we may need some fine tuning. Is there any documents/best practice when it comes to these applications and tuning ?

So the main question is actually to run these Siemens applications do we have to use vDGA?

I know we can upgrade to use vGPU and vsphere 6, but we are waiting for the hardware to be certified first.

Thanks for reply.

Load Balanced Security Servers

Hello-

I currently have a working POC running View 5.3 with a security server, in the DMZ, paired to an internal connection broker.  Security server has a signed certificate and is reachable from the Internet. Network team has Natted and firewall rules in place to successfully allow connections back into our network. So far so good.

Management wants to move this from POC to Production so I need to add another security server and pair it back to a second connection broker.  My problem is we don't have external load balancers I can use so I am looking for other ways I can provide a highly available environment.  One thought is to configure Microsoft Network Load Balancing between the two security servers and have the firewall pass the connections back to the clustered IP address.  Has anyone seen this working in the DMZ?  Also, does anyone have any suggestions regarding how I can provide HA for the security servers assuming I don't have load balancers in house to use and can't get MNLB to work?

Thank you in advance,

Erik

Horizon View Administrator - User's being reassigned to desktops

$

This is a slightly odd issue. Has anyone had any previous experience of user's being reassigned automatically to linked clone desktops they have been removed from?

I have 2 instances now of users having been unassigned from a desktop, in one case their entitlement for the pool was removed as their new desktop was in a different pool, their roaming profile removed from the linked clone desktop, and then subsequently they have appeared re-assigned to that desktop in Horizon View Administrator (as well as still being assigned to their new desktop).

I have never noticed this issue occurring before.

Many Thanks

AMD Firepro S9000 with Horizon View 6.1

Hi,

we are using sVGA with an AMD Firepro S9000 graphic card, which works pretty good. with Horizon View 5.3.

Has anybody tried that Card with Horizon View 6.1 ?

I know, it's currently not supported.

Does anybody know if AMD will support Horizon View 6.1?

And if AMD is working on vDGA and vGPU?

PS: It's not easy to get in touch with AMD

Maybe it would be a better choice to get a NVIDA K1 or K2 Card.

Kind regards

Hans-Peter

Connection Server Failover

Is it possible to pair both the primary connection server and the replicated instance with the security server so that if the primary fails subsequent connections will go to the replicated instance? Can a security server only pair with a single security server? I don't need to load balance I just want to know if and how I can pair both with my security server to support the primary connection server.

Thanks,

Is Web Cam Supported on Thin Client?

We are trying to use a web camera with a thin client in our view environment and it locks up the view session every time the camera is activated.  I've tried it on Windows 7 32bit/64bit systems through the newest horizon view client and it works flawlessly.  So just wondering if it will even work with the thin client or if there are workarounds?

Thin client info:

HP t410 smart zero client

OS: HP Smart Client Core Z6A44019

HP Horizon Client Addon: 2.3.4

Thank you.

View 6 -Desktops Stuck on startup

Hi Guys,

I am using view 6 and after DST, my dedicated pool desktops will stuck on start up after restarting.

Background:

All desktops worked well before. but after DST, and if any desktop restarts, the view manager will show that this desktop status is "startup" wait until 1 hour to change back to "Available".  I checked view manager event and it shows below.  have a look at the reporting time, it shows 7:03:51pm, but actually it is 6:03:51pm at that moment.

Capture.PNG

I did some research in google. somebody said this happens mostly in float pool with disconnect auto refresh setting. when people disconnect, desktop will auto refresh to basic snapshot, and that snapshot was created before DST, so the time is 1 hour forwards. so when desktop receives command to startup, it send startup message to connection server to tell connection server i am ready(with current desktop time which is one hour forwards), the connection server received this message , wait 1 hour then set desktop status to available.;       So the solution would be:  reconfigure gold master to correct time, and then recompose this pool.

The above explanation  sounds reasonable.  but my situation is different. Firstly my pool is dedicated pool, so there is not possible to get back to basic snapshot. secondly, all desktop joined domain, so time and date, tiemzone  are sync with my active directory. I  log into the desktop with error via console, and i see the desktop time, date, time zone are totally correct; but the latest VDM logs in C:\programdata\vmware\VDM\Logs is one hour forwards which means the view agent, or pcoip server/client does not know the DST time changing.

Does anyone met this problem before, and any suggestion? To recompose the dedicated pool is the last choice and a lot pain.

Horizon View 6.1 behind Sophos UTM Web Application Firewall

I have a home lab where I have Horizon View 6.1 setup behind a Sophos UTM Web Application Firewall. I have NAT/Firewall rule for TCP/UDP 4172 to hit my View security server. The Web Application Firewall is configured for view.barrettnetwork.com:443 to hit my View security server as well. With this configuration, the Windows client hangs at "Authenticating" then eventually fails. However, the Android clients logs in without any issues. I have a case open with Sophos to help with looking at the logs but I am just curious if anyone has advice with setting up View behind a proxy/application firewall.

Random freezes with View 5.1.3

$

For quite a while, a customer we installed View 5.1.3 for has been experience seemingly random freezes, where a handful (just a few or nearly all) of the VMs will freeze (screen stays on, but is unresponsive) for 5-15 minutes. After a certain amount of time, they all begin working again, picking up where they were. Rebooting the client doesn't seem to help. This happens the same no matter what client is used. Most PCs are old XP systems running the 5.3.0 client but there are a few thin clients that experience the same problem.

The environment is a single connection server serving about 35 desktops. I turned on PCoIP Secure Gateway and that didn't help. Watching the performance of the VMs in vSphere Manager doesn't show any unusual high usage. The clients use kiosk mode to consistently get the same VM. When disconnected, the View client immediately begins attempts to reconnect. These are public-use PCs that are used for certain lengths of time (30-60 minutes or so) and then log off/disconnect from the VM.

Looking at the logs on the connection server, I have a couple concerns... such as these line:

2014-08-07T13:31:47.357-04:00 INFO  (0A70-0EE8) <Tracker:Heartbeat> [TrackerManager] (servername) Inbound queue stats: total=0, max=0, dropped=0

2014-08-07T13:31:47.357-04:00 INFO  (0A70-0EE8) <Tracker:Heartbeat> [TrackerManager] (servername) Outbound queue stats: total=36683, max=50, dropped=0

I couldn't find any explanation of this - the inbounds stay at 0 but the outbound just gets bigger and bigger as time goes by. This number was the server had been rebooted about four hours earlier. Should I be concerned that the total is much more than the max?

Looking farther into the logs, I see the following, about 30-40 minutes before the freezes began this day:

Apparently the vCenter Server (an appliance VM, v5.1.0.20001, b1917404, the latest available) dies around here - or maybe the entire network lets go? .210 is the vCenter server, and .80 and 102 are two of the VMs.

After this, things appear to calm down the the VMs begin working again.

I am leaning towards blaming the Java NullPointerException, as it only happens once during this day's log file and is suspiciously close (about 30 minutes before) to when the freezes happened. I'm not sure what I can do about that, though - do I need a specific Java runtime or does View use its own? It's currently got Java 7u67 on the Connection Server.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Program wont shrink down within client

We are having issues with a company program that won't shrink down far enough within the view html or pcoip client on laptops with 15 inch or less screens making it unusable. I've looked through all the group policies and did not see anything that could help me but I'm wondering if there is a way to force a min resolution so the clients would have scroll bars so they can at least use the program. We are using horizon 6 and Esxi 5.5.

Cloud Pod error - PodFederation operation timed out on local connection. Server with no error information.

I upgraded my Horizon View 6 to 6.1 so that I could easily deploy Cloud Pod within my environment. I set up the Pod Architect a while ago via command line. Since that time I thought I had uninstalled it however after the upgrade to 6.1 it showed the other Pods under View Configuration > Cloud Pod Architecture. So I clicked on Unjoin and I have the following error: PodFederation operation timed out on local connection. Server with no error information. It is sitting at 20% and status is Pending.

Any thoughts on how I can get out of this error so I can start over? Do I need to go through the CLI to get it uninstalled?

Appreciate any help.

View 5.3 Slow "establishing secure connection" related to Internet Explorer settings?

$

Hello all,

Hoping someone can help shed some light on this for me.  For background, our environment is 5.3 across the board for the Connection server and agents (5.3.2 agent specifically), and we are utilizing the 5.0.1 client.  I wouldn't get stuck on the client version as we see the same behavior with the Horizon 2.3.3 client version as well.  Our client machines are a mix of Windows 7 and Windows XP, but are mostly 7.  Anyway, here is what happens:

We have most of our connecting clients as shelled out Kiosk machines with local user accounts, not using View kiosk mode, but a third party application that provides some other functionality and mainly just calls View via command line.  The vast majority of our client machines were imaged and set up with this third party shell.  When the View client is launched, it sits at "establishing secure connection" for upwards of 20 seconds before proceeding through and connecting the user to their desktop.  Now, the weird part is that if I simply launch Internet Explorer once and close it, this behavior completely goes away and you barely notice a delay in connecting at all.  If i go into Internet Options and hit the "reset Internet Explorer settings" button, the long 20+ second delay returns.  I do not think there are any IE group policy settings as these machines are logged into local accounts, and therefore aren't subject to our domain IE settings policy.  Also, I can mimic this behavior on a regular workstation with a domain user logged in.

I am hoping I can at least find out if anyone knows what Internet Options settings View might care about and rely on.  I'm guessing there is some delay or time out with some kind of hand shaking or certificate verification somewhere, but I've tried out various settings but have come up empty.  Thanks!
