Windows 10 Tech Preview Build 9926 - Start menu fails, Persona Management fails to update

I used the Optimization tool Windows 7 / 8 template and applied all settings. VMware OS Optimization Tool – VMware Labs

I also used the latest agent, tools and  batch scripts from the guide in http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/VMware-View-OptimizationGuideWindows7-EN.pdf

After doing that to the parent image, to get the start menu to work, I had to revert the LUA to enabled. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System enablelua DWORD 1

and add HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced EnableXamlStartMenu DWORD 0

Even then, persona management would not write my registry back to the persona repository. It did however write other file based changes back to the registry. Suppose it has something to do with the new profile.V5 format? Is there any beta version of Persona Management for Windows 10?

Looks like native roaming profiles for testing at the moment.

Full Clone Pool: Customization Operation Times Out

When deploying a full clone pool I get "Customization Operation Timed Out" and the VM is connected to the correct network using the VMXNET3 adapter. I opened one of the newly provisioned VM's in the pool and it was asking for a PC name. When I provide it a name I see that it finalizes the OS Config and is now joined to the domain per my unattend.xml but the time out still occurs. During the creation of the custom specification I chose to use the PC name and to ask for name in the deployment wizard and get the same affect. Am I supposed to put something in the answer file for the PC Name or is something else at work? We are evaluating and hopefully moving towards VDI so wish me luck and any help is appreciated!

two-factor authentication

We have two security servers paired with two internal connection servers.

VDISEC1 paired with VDIBROKER1

VDISEC2 paired with VDIBROKER2

They are both load balanced internally and externally to point to view.mydomain.com. This has worked fine for us so far.

We would like to setup two-factor authentication for external users only. I don't see any way of setting it up without affecting internal users?

Thanks

Horizon 6 compatibility?

Looking at building out a 6.1 environment. I know this sounds silly, but is it supported in vSphere 6?  The compatibility matrix shows no compatibility of any View version with vSphere 6 and View 6.1 shows no compatibility with any vSphere version either.  So while the news release refers to vSphere 6 and vSphere 6 is a download under View, the matrix doesn't say so.  Just looking for some clarification so I can tell the powers that be that we can indeed go with 6.1 and vSphere 6.  TIA.

Persona profiles getting deleted

I have an interesting issue which is very random, users are complaining their profiles are getting deleted.  Upon opening the users directory in the repository we typically find the only thing in there is the folder {d24f2895-651a-40cc-8e5c-c037b9994104}, which from what I understand is the folder which is created for the vss snapshot when replicating the changes.  There are some instances where there is nothing at all but that is less frequent.  We have multiple pools in which this occurs, and we have not been able to replicate the issue using test accounts because it is just so random.  A case is open but no progress has been made at this time.  There is no antivirus on the repo, we are running trend deep security on the desktops and have attempted to disable it as a test but this still popped up.  All pools are linked clones with refresh immediately on log off configured.  Permissions have been verified according to documentation.  We do use the redirection feature for My docs, music, pictures, videos to other file servers but that appears to be functioning properly.  Our desktops are windows 7 sp1, we recently recomposed after re-running and verifying the optimization scripts and all services are set properly.  I am not familiar enough with the actual process to "roll-up" the snapshot to narrow down where the issue may actually reside.

Hi,

I need advise on this issue.

My VMware view client (Mac version 3.2) routinely locks up when not in use.  It happened in the view client version 3.0, I upgraded to the current Mac client version 3.2, the problem was not fixed.

I cannot find any statement whether RDSH Pool is supported with Linked Clone/Composer or not. Any help appreciated!

Basically, what I need to know is that if I can create Linked clone RDSH hosts, and create a farm with these so that I can publish applications and manage just one RDS image?

Thanks in advance.

Floating Pool With Office 365?

$

Hello Everyone,

We are in the middle of rolling out Office365 on our VDI environment and it seems to be working perfectly for our dedicated pool by having it installed on the base image. Our concern would be on how do we do this on a floating pool environment? Tried few methods but it seems that O365 is removing 1 license on every user that login to a same vdi desktop. Is there a way possible that we can have this O365 on our floating pool and only removes a license from the first user who use that vdi? I know that this may sound more of a Microsoft Question rather than a VMware stuff but I'm just trying my luck her hoping that someone was able to have this scenario working.

Our last option would be to switch these floating pool to a dedicated one.

Thanks in advance for any response!

Best,

Ian

Input_devtap ==> touch injection is not allowed (View Agent 6 on physical Win7 64bits machine w/ smartcard PCoIP option)

Hi,

Facing a new issue while experimenting various configuration of HP T310 zero client : failure case is here with a physical machine running Win7 in 64 bits. For info, the same config with a VM is working fine.

Physical Machine is a Dell Precision T3500 with the latest firmware (A17) for that machine.

Zero client is a HP T310 w/ 1 USB kbd, 1 USB mouse and 1 USB smartcard reader (HID)

The physical machine has a failing keyboard init : logs show :

03/16/2015, 16:58:53.365> LVL:0 RC:   0     EXTERN :input_devtap ==> InputDevTap_Attach: areWeInRDSSession 0 sessionId 1
03/16/2015, 16:58:53.365> LVL:0 RC:   0     EXTERN :input_devtap ==> kbdDriver is allowed.
03/16/2015, 16:58:53.365> LVL:0 RC:   0     EXTERN :input_devtap ==> touch injection is not allowed.
03/16/2015, 16:58:53.365> LVL:0 RC:   0     EXTERN :input_devtap ==> Attach failed. Unable to open kbd device.
03/16/2015, 16:58:53.365> LVL:1 RC:-500     SERVER :InputDevTap_Attach() failed (result=1001)

At the end, only the mouse is moving ok, but no clicks can be received by the PC. Kdb has no effect. S/C reader seems to work (hard to say actually).

I tested w/ and w/o the Host kbd & mouse plugged => no impact. Of course, if you play with the host kbd/mouse, it work fine... but such a workarounf is not really helping "virtual desktop" approach...

RDP mode (with another thin client (Wyse)) is working fine.

See attached logs, all starting at the right time.

Please help !

Law Enforcement Video Playback Choppy

$
0
0

Anyone else using VMware View to playback video taken in law enforcement vehicles (patrol cars, etc.)?

What we have:

We currently use VMware View 6.0 and Dell/Wyse P25 clients.  All is well except we can't view videos that were taken in patrol cars.

Our sheriff's vehicles use the Panasonic Arbitrator platform.  The video files are .av (AVC codec) and require a stand-alone player (the idea being, the videos contain metadata like vehicle speed, lat/long, officer name, etc. and can't be altered so that they remain admissible as evidence for prosecution).

What we're seeing:

Video and audio work great for about 2-3 seconds.  Video then looks like it's in slow motion and audio is choppy/unusable.

What we've tried:

Installing the playback app on the parent image.

Thin-Apping the playback app.

Adding vCPUs/cores/RAM

Tweaking about every setting in View Administrator for the pool in question (all at Dell/VMware's direction).

Tweaking PCOIP settings in the ADM in group policy

We use Dell M620 blades for VDI.  We even tried (at Dell/VMware's suggestion) a stand-alone Dell R730 server with K2 GRID video cards.

We're at a brick wall, and this is putting a damper on our fledgling VDI rollout.  Yes, we SHOULD have tested all of the apps on VDI as part of the pilot testing....  No, we didn't.  Lesson learned.

Any help / direction / suggestions / wild guesses would be welcome.

Thanks in advance!

VMWare Horizon View 6.0.2 Scanner Redirection Caveats

$

0

1.  Scanner redirection does not create a device on your virtual desktop that matches the name of the actual scanner.  It creates a generic scanner in Device Manager called VMWare Virtual WIA Scanner (or VMWare Virtual TWAIN Scanner I am assuming).  For us this stinks because the image capture software our client uses (Vertex by Jack Henry), has a prepopulated list of scanners you can select.  So if we plug in a Canon-CR50 and select Canon CR50/80 in the application, it does not recognize that this scanner is attached to the virtual desktop.

2.  You must install a TWAIN or WIA driver on your thin client.  If you can't find a TWAIN or WIA driver, you are out of luck.  For teller check image scanners, we have found no TWAIN or WIA drivers for the TellerScan TS-230, TS-240, or the Canon CR-55.  We have found a TWAIN driver for the Canon CR-50 (from the Canon Europe site no less), but issue #1 above means we are out of luck.

Question on Load Balancing Two View 6 Connection Servers

$

0

After demo'ing some load balancers, we decided to purchase two Kemp LoadMaster appliances.

In our demo environment we were simply balancing two Connection servers. In testing, however, when one connection server was brought down (reboot), it disconnected the end user's session and required them to reauthenticate to get on the second connection server to re-establish their desktop session.

I'm not very fluent in load balancing, but this sounds legitimate and a normal experience. My question is, can something be setup in Horizon that we could be load balancing instead so that sessions don't disconnect during maintenance/reboots/etc...? Workspace, security server(s)?

TIA!

VMwareAppTap hangs

I have an issue after installing the Horizon View Agent on a RDS server (2008R2 and 2012R2) and a user wants to log off, an error occured. A window "This program is not responding" "End Program - VMwareAppTap" occurs End Now or Cancel. User stay logged and wait to select answer.

all VM's on hosts going Agent Unreachable randomly

$

So I've been trying to figure this issue out since late December. Tickets with VMware aren't getting far, so now I'm hoping the forums can get me in the right direction.

so we've now had 5 instances since December where we leave for the day and all VM's are fine (0 problem desktops) and come in the next morning and all VM's on a host are Agent Unreachable. The Vm's are still running, they are still responsive, can be logged into via Console, have valid IP's, etc. If I vMotion them to another host they immediately become come out of agent unreachable without needing a reboot, service restarts, etc. I can then vMotion them back onto the original host and they continue to work without issue. This has only ever happened after hours, vCOps doesn't indicate any issues/alerts/anomalies, and has happened on 4 different hosts out of 5 occurrences. I don't see any odd metrics in the performance graphs for cpu, ram, disk, or networking. our SAN metrics don't show anything weird happening. I thought maybe vShield or MOVE were doing something but those logs aren't indicating anything either. The VM logs don't have anything super obvious happening in them. I did see a couple of events where the WSNM service is restarting, but it restarts successfully each time. The fact they are responsive throws me off of the vShield line of thinking where a similar situation happens but the VM itself is unresponsive.

Has anyone seen behavior like this and have a "check out X" kind of direction to point me?

View 6.0.2 to 6.1 Upgrade

Hello,

I'm going round in circles with this upgrade for testing purposes.

I have 2 servers:

1 with composer and standard server

1 security server

I believe the process is to remove composer and install the newer 6.1 build. If I do this I get an error that "Unable to install because View Server is installed on this server"

If I remove View server, composer will install, but when it comes to installing the Server, I get a similar message "Unable to install because View Composer is installed on this server"

Can the two live together in 6.1 (Connection Server and Composer)?

What is the correct process to upgrade.

Running vSphere 5.5

Thanks

Hello Community,

I have to remove vshield manager 5.11 and vshield app from my environment.

I have a VMware View with 50 Clients - view composer enabled.

What is the best way to get vshield removed.

Do I have to install my ESX hosts and vcenter from scratch? What will happen with my connection broker when the vcenter is not accessable?

Can I install a new vcenter and link the connection broker to the new one or do I have to build my view environment also from scratch?

kind regards

Dennis

Hello Vmware Team

I would like to sell virtual remote desktops and would like to know, if you know anyway to:

1) if user is suspended, that view server disables and deletes his Workstation automatically.

Thank you,

Pedro
