Has anybody did this? I cant seem to find this card as supported with SVGA so I was just wondering. I was able to load the driver and everything according to the guide installed fine but when I start the XORG server it stays running for 5 seconds then stops. I don't see anything in the XORG log and i wasn't sure what to do in the Kernel log. Anybody else do this yet?

Starting an Horizon View POC, and I'm looking for suggestions
Hi everyone, I'm starting an horizon view p.o.c.
I already have a supported server (Dell R720, Dual 8c Xeon, 80G of memory) I need to choose a right VGA card. Because it's a proof of concept I need to keep the cost as low as possible (I just need to run a windows7 vm with 2 CAD capabilities and another Windows 7 VM with 3d CAD capabilities). The lowest price VGA card I can find is the AMD Firepro S7000, but i'm wondering if it can support a vm with good 3d performance.
Any suggestion?

Nvidia Quadro
I assume that many of you with exictement have read through all news in vSphere 5.1
What cought my eye in View point of view was this:

It certainly raises some questions for me:
a) The Nvidia GPU VIB-files is that free of charge or is it licensed from Nvidia or Vmware?
b) Have anyone tested 5.1 with Quadro-cards (and VMware Techie out there?) Pros? Cons?
c) Is the GPU fully accessible from the View guest or is there some kind of abstraction layer in between? After some research it seems like the abstraction layer is utilizing Xorg in a clever way.

Horizon View 6 - dual monitor - mouse can only access first half of first monitor, not second
This is from Stratodesk NoTouch Receiver (an Ubuntu Linux derivative) using Horizon View client 3.1.0. It happens randomly, out of 100 users, it happens at least 3 times a day. This is a floating linked clone pool. Usually a log off and back on to a new VM fixes the issue although it has happened back to back.
command line options are: --protocol=PCOIP --allmonitors --desktopSize=all
In X, the monitors are set up with xrandr well before the launch of vmware-view with varying combinations of rotation:
xrandr --output DVI-0 --rotate left --output DVI-1 --rotate left --right-of DVI-0
xrandr --output DVI-1 --rotate left --right-of DVI-0
xrandr --output DVI-0 --rotate left --output DVI-1 --right-of DVI-0
xrandr --output DVI-1 --right-of DVI-0

Disconnecting and reconnecting sometimes three to four times eventually resolves the mouse/geometry issue.
Update:
Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Ins and then escape brings topology and mouse into alignment. Seems like something is interfering with the agent or pcoip server.
If it is of any consequence, we are setting:
Set HKLM\Software\VMware, Inc.\VMware VDM\Plugins\wssm\applaunchmgr\enabled = dword:0
And
Set HKLM\Software\VMware, Inc.\VMware VDM\USB\DefaultPluginDelay = dword:2

Connect from and to Horizon client black screen
Hello,
I have a problem connecting from a VMware Horizon client to a other location/company also using VMware Horizon.
When i use mu VDI computer and want to connect to a external company computer that is also a VMware Horizon VDI i get the black screen and after 10 sec i get the time out error.
Anyone know how to solve this problem?

Horizon View Black Screen
Hi,
We have a working Horizon View 6 environment, and it works with both View client and html. But today i was at a customer, and when we tried my laptop there, we where able to login, but when i selected the vm it goes to black screen, and after 10-20 sec it disconnects. It must be something on the customers network since it works from other places, and my laptop also works from other places. I was able to use RDP and HTML, so my question is then what do the customer need to check in their firewall ? I thought that the "end users" didn't need anything special ports open on their side, thought it was default ports that where open... but im not a network guy..so Image may be NSFW.

View event: BROKER_POOL_OVERLOADED
Hi all,
I have a question about a specific View event: BROKER_POOL_OVERLOADED. This message appears every day on different VM's on all of our Connection servers and all pools.
29-07: End of day, user logoff VM
30-07: User try to logon and receive message: 'The assigned desktop source for this desktop is currently not available'. Following message is in the Event database: BROKER_POOL_OVERLOADED:
"Unable to launch from Pool v-w7n52-sph for user PGGM-INTRA\BACJ: All responding machines are currently in use"
The user tries to logon several times, but don't succeeded. After a Reset-VM it's possible to logon again. Does anyone know what 'BROKER_POOL_OVERLOADED' exactly means and is it possible to relate this to a specific logfile?
Client OS: Windows 7 SP1 64-bit
VMWare Horzion View: 5.2(Agent 5.2)

Horizon View Self-Signed Certs Green in the Dashboard
Hi all,
this is a very simple question as i want to "convince" Horizon View Dashboard to give me all green lights about SSL Certs using the self-signed certificates.
I'm running Horizon View 6.0.1.
The components that can be red are:
- vCenter
- Composer
- Connection Servers
- Security Servers
For the first two it's pretty straightforward since you can just accept the thumbprint fro the View Administrationg Dashboard.
For the Connection Servers all you have to do is to import the all Connection Servers certificates into the certificate stores of all Connection Servers under the trusted CA.
I still can't find a way to make the security server green.
Anyone managed to make it green using the self-signed certs?

Unable to Connect to View Composer co-located with VCenter
Hi all,
I have installed an evaluation version of VMware Horizon 6 with View and I get stuck at the last stage of View Configuration while Adding a VCenter Server. I get a Server Error message "There was a communication fault. Possibly due to wrong credentials or permission settings". I am an administrator in all servers.
Anyone who has encountered this before?

Printer Deployment methods in VMWare LInked Clone Envrionment
We have over 700 VMs in linked clone configuration. We configure about 15 templates amongst 20 pools or so to accomplish this.
Our current printer deployment method is through the traditional print server, but we have to pre-load the template with these drivers because linked clones will lose the driver upon a reboot if not.
Because we have these 15 some odd templates, and more than 20 different drivers for 20 different models of printers, this is becoming a management frustration. Especially when we go to renew our printer contracts and at least 10 of the models will be changed in a weeks time.
What solutions are available to us? So far, I'm investigating ThinPrint from Cortada as it uses a universal driver for all printers. I'm hoping for some other competitors or some other methods to help ease the frustrations of changing\updating printer drivers in the future.
And feel free to refer me to existing forum threads too, sorry for creating another if there is already one.

Missing icons in Windows Horizon View Client
I installed the Windows View Client version 3 build 1887158. When I open the client, it leaves space like it should be displaying an icon above each item, but nothing is there. Does this for the server list as well as the pool list. Tried reinstalling and got the same results. Anyone else seen this behavior?

Looking for a tool
I want a tool that will gracefully shutdown all the VM's on a particular host so that I can reboot or work on the host..
Since these are VDI's in View they would all have to be put into maintenance mode first.
Someone on another forum said to select multiple VM's in View Manager and put them in to MM. Well, if that's possible I can't figure out how to do it.

vmware view persona profile design
Hello,
we have deployed VDI for a number of users, we were asked to do so out of necessity, and didn't have the time to plan this out fully.
be that as it may, we deployed it, and people are very happy with it.
now, before deploying it to other people, we wanted to do some fine tuning.
one of the fine tuning measures that we wanted is view persona.
currently we have view persona turned on, and all the users are basically having their entire profile stored on a network share.
while this is fine, we are starting to run into issues.
one issue is not being able to control the size of the profile.
users just dump as much as they want on their profile without much thought..
my question(s) is,
how can one design a better infrastructure ,where users can download stuff, but are made aware of how much they are using ?? .. what are you guys doing out there in the real world.. ??

single zero/thin client - multi user logon environment - session is lost

Looking for any help with regards to using a thin client / zero-client / windows 7 VDI desktop pool.
having multiple users using the same thin client/zero client and logging in to respective vdi desktop session.
user A log on -
user B log on - logging off user A
user A log on again - session A is lost
Is there any way to maintain the session for a logged off user? is this a configuration of the vdi desktop pool or the dell wyse thin client / zero client.
end result is we would like to have up to 3 users using the same thin/zero client all while maintaining the user sessions even if a user session is logged off or disconnected?

PCoIP 2nd display not refreshed for Xming Linux remote session.
Dear experts,
Here comes my issue. Since VDI is not supporting Linux Virtual desktop, I manage a Win7 one with Xming for accessing Linux. Works good for a single display approach. Not with 2.
Config :
Horizon View 6.0.2 - Basic Views Connection server install.
Zero client HP T310 - latest firmware - Dual screen (configured in 1280x960 each)
Virtual Desktop under Windows 7 64bits - Dual Display working fine for Windows apps. 2nd display in extended desktop mode.
Virtual Machine running Linux Red Hat 6.2 - 32bits - KDE desktop - (VM videocard set to 2 displays - with enough memory) - XDMCP protocol enabled under Linux.
I open a session via the View Connection serveur and I have access to my Windows 7 virtual destop with dual screen working fine. PcoIP tunnel, of course.
When, then, I start a Linux remote session via Xming (latest sourceforge version) from my Windows 7 virtual desktop, (via cmd xming : 0 -query "hostname"), It works fine for the main display. Good
If I move (entirely or partially) the Xming window to the 2nd display, the portion within the extended desktop area is not refreshed (while inputs via mouse work fine, but no rendering at all, except the Win7 window frame).
Why? Did I miss a configuration somewhere?
I have noticed the on KDE display configuration menu under my linux VM, that only 1 display is appearing. It this correct?
For info I have also tested Xming dual screen alternative (-screen 0 @1 -screen 1 @2) : same bug; Also tested 1 screen for large vitual display (2560*960) same bug on the 2nd display... I also have tested few engineering svga.XXX params, but with no success.
VMware and X11 experts, your help will be greatly appreciated!

Problem with cloning master image for linked clones after v5.1 update
Hello Everyone,
I have followed the documentation provided by VMWare and updated our View v5.0 environment to v5.1. Seemed to all be working OK until I deleted the existing desktop pool and attempted to create a new one....
During the provisioning phase when view composer is creating a replica of the master image for the linked-clone pool it seems fine for about an hour... then the View Console reports an error and disables provisioning for the pool (meanwhile the cloning process for the master image is still continuing uninterrupted in the vSphere Client).
The errors that shows up in the View Console are;
"Connection Server - View Composer Fault: VC operation exceeded the task timeout limit of 0 mins set by the View Composer for <VM instance>"
"Connection Server - Provisioning Error occurred for machine <VM instance>: Cloning Failed for Machine"
It appears that View Composer has attempted to create linked clone VMs before the copy of the original master image has been completed.
If i re-enable provisioning for the pool another instance of the cloning process for the master image is commenced... even through one is already in progress !!!
Any advice or suggestions on how to fix this problem would be most welcome !.
