The Connection to the remote computer timed out- VM ware view 4.6

Hello,

I'm using VM Ware View 4.6 to access remote desktop. The problem I'm going through is after giving the logon details and then clicking the connect button, it seems like that there is a second window opening and after few minutes it give me the erroe message "The Connection to the remote computer timed out"(See attached).

I'm using windows vista and I followed the same installation process in my friends laptop which uses window 7 where it works fine, moreoever these two laptops share the same internet connection. I'm not sure what settings i need to change in my laptop to get going. I tried going through different forums but I could'nt figure out the reason. Any lead will be highly appreciated. Thank You very much

Apple iOS blocks PCoIP Port 4172

Hi,

We installed and configured the Security and the Connection Server in our environment. Now, we are testing the connection to our virtual desktops on our end-clients. We remarked the following:

- If we use an mobile hotspot from an iPhone on our end-clients, we can not connect to our virtual desktops.

- If we use an mobile hotspot from an Android mobile, it works fine.

- If we use our internal w-lan, it works also.

- If we use our w-lan at home or somewhere else external, it works also.

Did someone else experience the same when connecting the end-client with an iPhone hotspot? We guess that the Apple iOS uses port 4172 or blocks it.

VMware View (Outlook address book 0x80004005)

Hello,

I ran into an issue where when trying to download offline address book gives an error code (0x80004005). This issue occurred only on our VDI environment, where normal fat desktops are not having this issue.

After deep investigation, I discovered that Persona redirection is the cause of this issue. Whenever I stop the persona service, things works fine.

Any idea how to sort out this issue?

Thanks,

Hi all. After upgrading to Horizon View 6 and recomposing desktop pool users get 0 KB files of all types. However, on a file share files are ok.

If I copy files to desktop from a file share after a few days or after a first log off users again get 0 KB files. Where can I must start my investigation?

Multipe URL's for VMWare View access

Is it possible to utilize multiple url's to access the same VMWare View infrastructure?

Right now I have 1 security server and 1 connection server.  I would like to bring up a new url so that we can change the url the clients connect to (The connection is via https). I have a lot of clients connecting and it would be easier for me to bring up a new url so that I can migrate clients to the new url with the least amount of user impact.

Looking through the infrastructure it looks like what I would need to do is bring up a new security server and a new connection server but using different urls/ips on the PCOIP secure gateway and secure tunnel.

I'm looking for an option that requires the least amount of work.

thanks!!!

Pool Design Question

Wondering everyone's thoughts about a question around template/pool design. Typically I have created a new template per View pool and recomposed using the template's own snapshots. Since storage is typically available and not an issue this has worked ok, just more templates to manage.

Recently I have been "thinking" about instead re-using the templates and building the different pools from snapshots. Anyone doing the latter, and any pitfalls or things to watch out for besides what I would see as a "whoops" factor of assigning the wrong snapshot to a pool?

Thanks in advance!

HTML (Blast) Support for Cloud Pod Architecture - when it is due?

Hi all,

We have created a new Horizon View 6 infrastructure which spans 2 remote data centres and linked together using the Cloud Pod Architecture feature.

Everything has gone fairly well and we have successfully created Global Entitlements which span the two view pods and tested this works correctly using the full client.

In the documentation, it states a current limitation of CPA is that HTML (Blast) access does not function.

Sure enough, if you try to access a HTML enabled pools with your Global Entitlement in place the following message is displayed:

"You cannot access your applications or desktops from the web client. Please install the VMware Horizon Client, version 3.0 or later."

So my question is (as we have several users we are looking to migrate to this platform that use and like the HTML access convenience), when it HTML (Blast) due to be supported in a Cloud Pod Architecture environment?

Many thanks for any information in advance!

Multiple domains in view for tenanting cloud services

I'm setting up my view 5.0 enviroment.

I'm going to be a private cloud service for diffrent clients hosting their domains.

The view connection server needs to have multiple access to diffrent microsoft active directory domains.

I would like not to establish a trust or merge diffrent AD domains.

Has any one been able to support multi domains with a view connection server.?

Would I need a separate view connection servers for each domain I'm hosting?

Basically, how many (maximum) virtual desktop can I clone using VMware Horizon 6 trial licenses (in a testing environment).

Any help is appreciated!

Multiple AD Domains in VMware Horizon View

Hi Guys, I want to test creating Pools using 2 Active Directory domains. I've setup my environment as follow:

Domain A

1- Connection Server

2- Composer Server

3- Security server

4- vCenter Server

Domain B

1- Connection Server

2- Created a separate View Composer account

At the moment Horizon View 5.3.2 is fully functional on Domain A. But I need your help deploying pool using Domain B. After setting up Connection Server(joined to Domain B) I tried to add Domain B using View Composer account by logging to View Admin(Domain A) > Edit vCenter Server > Edit View Composer Settings > Verify Server Informations(under Domain) but I'm getting "Bad domain name"

Could you guys please help or send me a link to setup one-way trust which is needed for VMware View so that I can deploy Pool using Domain B.

Without creating any trust, I've added Domain B conditional forwarder on Domain A which let me add the Domain B without "Bad domain name" pop up. But I don't know what to do next. Can someone please guide me.

VMWare Horizon View Client - USB Devices Auto Connect Not Working

I have an issue with automatically connecting usb devices with the virtual PC. I am using VMWare Horizon View Client 5.3.0.1042023. The PC is an HP Compaq Elite 8300 Small Form Factor.

The correct redirection information has been added to the registry, and the USB devices work if manually selected from the Connect USB Devices drop down, or the USB device is disconnected and reconnected, but it ignores the autoconnect usb devices option if it is checked.

This works perfectly well on Dell optiplex PCs I have here. I include a portion of the log file below. Anyone know a resolution, or failing that, why it won't work.

Many Thanks

View 6.0.1 Persona/DFS repository issues (profile data lost)

I'm having some issues with Persona saving profiles on a DFS share.

We're running View 6.0.1 with floating linked-clones and Persona for profile management. The repository for the profiles lies on a DFS share.

Sometimes after users log off, all that's saved to their profile folder (username.V2) is a hidden folder with a name similiar to {d24f2895-651a-40cc-8e5c-c037b9994104} and inside that is a {d24f2895-651a-40cc-8e5c-c037b9994104}.db and a lock.{d24f2895-651a-40cc-8e5c-c037b9994104} file. Upon logging in again, their profile isn't loaded, but another one of these folders is created (and deleted again after logging off). No notification pops up saying it loaded a temporary windows profile and the eventlog seems fine, a persona entry says it loaded 2 files. When i delete or rename this hidden folder, a new profile is created. I've had to recover around 5 profiles from backup... I can't figure out why this is happening. NTFS rights are correct.

After analyzing the log files after a log in with an affected profile (could only get the ones after a log in, as i can't recreate the error above) i found the following:

[0][01/21/2015 14:34:38:0184][VPLogonNotify_OnLogon] Logon Started: 13:34:38:184

- The time isn't correct, left is the computer time of the VM replica right? What's the other time?

[0][01/21/2015 14:34:38:0934][VMWCreateMetadataTable] Failed Creating Table: 慴汢⁥敭慴慤慴愠牬慥祤攠楸瑳s, 1

- No idea why there are chinese characters in the logfile?

To be honest I don't know what exactly i'm looking for in the logfile... I'm just wondering where the hell the profile data is actually going or where it is lost?!

Any help is appreciated.

Viewing user PCoIP session as an admin

Hi,

We have recently deployed a good amount of virtual desktops using Horizon 6 and working perfectly fine but I have a little security/privacy issue.

As an admin, I can view users' sessions while they are working for troubleshooting purposes but executives don't want this for their desktops.

I know I can keep them in a separate OU and disable console view but then troubleshooting would be difficult for me.

I am just wondering if there is any config or setting somewhere which notifies the user when my techs start viewing their sessions?

Or, any other recommendations for this issue?

Thank you,

MS

Endpoints logged in Events DB

Does the view events DB store what endpoint launched what virtual desktop? If someone came to me and asked me what virtual desktops were launched from PC1 does the events DB store that VD1, and VD2 were accessed from this endpoint? I have been all over the tables and can't find the data. Has anybody else had a need to dig up this kind of info?

View Client for Windows Security Problem - Login without password

Hi,

I am starting this thread to get VMware to put focus om the security problem they have with the Windows View Client.

The problem discription:

When a costumer starts using View 4, they often have a lot og old machines. They can be converted to "thin" client, by installing a Windows XP, with nothing else than a View Client. To avoid multiple logins for the user, the machines can be installed as stand-alone (Not part of the domain) with autologin, that means no password, or a predefined password that the user dont know, or all users know.

Then when a user starts the computer the View client starts automatically, and the user is prompet for his credentials, for the first and only time. When he connects to a View Desktop, single sing on connects him, and logs him in.

The users now decides that it is time for a coffee break. And he locks Windows in his Virtual Desktop witch is in full screen mode, but the "thin" physical windows client is not locked. And there is no need to lock it since the user don't know that password.

Now while he is gone another user comes along, and he goes to the top of the screen where the View Client toolbar is, and presses OPTIONS -> Switch Desktop -> Other Desktop

This brings up the VMware View Connections. Now insted a choosing a VM to start, he closes the lock View Desktop in the background. Now he is able to connect to the same machine again, and Single sign on now logs him in, even though it is not the connect user, and he does not have the password.

I am unable to see how to solve this without putting the "thin" Windows machines in the domain, and that means multiple logons for the user.

Wise clients have a solution to this, where the lock the View client. That is a good solution, but VMware has not thought this through.

Does anyone have some solutions that I have not seen? I had come up with a solution to use the Web Portal, and have iexplore killed after logon to the machine, but View does not support PCoIP when using Web Portal. Another solution is to remove the View Toolbar in the top of the screen, but then users are unable to start more then one machine. Very Annoying.

VMWare Horizon View 6.0.2 Scanner Redirection Caveats

1.  Scanner redirection does not create a device on your virtual desktop that matches the name of the actual scanner.  It creates a generic scanner in Device Manager called VMWare Virtual WIA Scanner (or VMWare Virtual TWAIN Scanner I am assuming).  For us this stinks because the image capture software our client uses (Vertex by Jack Henry), has a prepopulated list of scanners you can select.  So if we plug in a Canon-CR50 and select Canon CR50/80 in the application, it does not recognize that this scanner is attached to the virtual desktop.

2.  You must install a TWAIN or WIA driver on your thin client.  If you can't find a TWAIN or WIA driver, you are out of luck.  For teller check image scanners, we have found no TWAIN or WIA drivers for the TellerScan TS-230, TS-240, or the Canon CR-55.  We have found a TWAIN driver for the Canon CR-50 (from the Canon Europe site no less), but issue #1 above means we are out of luck.

Corrupt User Profiles With Persona

Hi All,

I'm currently trying to track an intermittent problem with corrupt user profiles when using persona management on View desktops. We've been having hardware problems lately, so user's VMs have been going down while they're logged in. We've been having some corrupt profiles happen a lot recently and I think they're related. While I'm not surprised that user profiles get corrupt if a VM if the host it's running on goes down, I'm wondering what the expected behavior is supposed to be in the following cases:

1) VM of logged in Persona user gets reset via View Administrator

2) Host goes down or datastore detaches while user is logged into VM with persona management enabled.

I've noticed on the persona share a hidden directory and lock files called "{08C31585-259A-4341-9982-78E42EAF6106}\computername.0.lck". A VMware support engineer has told me that Persona management does not create this folder and file. However, when I go to delete it, it tells me that the file is currently opened by "VMWare Horizon View Persona Management". I'm guessing the support engineer was wrong and this is how Persona management maintains the profile to be used by one logged in user at a time.

Can someone explain to me how this is supposed to work? Is profile corruption an expected result of a VM of a logged in user being reset, or is this considered a bug? If the lock file doesn't get cleaned up properly, what is the expected behavior?

Thank you

Password Expiration Notification Not Showing in Non-Persistent Pooled Machines

Running vSphere 5.0

VMware View 5.1
Windows 7 32-bit

Wyse P25 zero clients

Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard 64-bit

Both persistent & non-persistent pools

I am slowly converting users from physical Dell Optiplex desktops to the VDI environment described above. I have been receiving phone calls from our virtual users that they are locked out of their sessions and it's giving them the message their password is expired. It does not give them the normal pop up bubble from Windows 7 warning them their password is going to expire in XX number of days. I recently started receiving the notice on my physical desktop so I signed into one of our floating pools and did not receive the notice. I did the rsop.msc command on the virtual desktop to review what policy parameters were successfully pushed down. The line "Interactive logon: Prompt user to change password before expiration - 14 days" was there. The only difference is that my physical computer is in a different OU with a different policy (although all policies do have that specific line). BUT one of my coworkers is assigned a dedicated virtual desktop that has all of the same policies for both the user and computer as the floating pooled machines do and he does get the notification where the floating assigned users do not. So the only difference I can see now is between the floating and dedicated pools which I don't understand how that would affect this notification other than a potential disconnect between the Windows session and the initial log in through VMware view. Has anyone else ran into this type of issue?
