Cannot pint or RDP to VM

Hi,

I'm not really sure how to go about troubleshooting this. So, if you could help me point to the right direction, that'd be great.

I'm working on a work laptop running Windows 7 (64-bit). Let's say the hostname is win7 and it's ip address is 10.111.112.xx. This machine is part of a workgroup.

I have access to VMware View (I believe it's version 5). I've created a VM through vSphere client 5. The VM is running Windows Server 2008 R2. It's joined to a domain instead of a workgroup (unlike my laptop). The ip address of this VM would be 10.111.113.xx. Notice that it's ip address is just in a different subnet.

I'm not able to ping the VM from my laptop. So, obviously I'm unable to RDP as well. However, from the VM I can ping my laptop. Right now the only way I can access/use the VM is via "Console" in vSphere client, which is not really ideal for regular work.

Would you be able to help with this issue? Basically, I'd like to be able to RDP to that VM from my laptop to work on it. Where's the issue?

Can't login with Local accounts using View Direct Connection plugin into RDS Pool

I have installed the Horizon View Agent (6.0.0) and View Direct Connection Plugin (6.0.0) on a physical server running Windows Server 2012 R2 with Remote Desktop Services enabled. I point my Windows View Client (2.3.0) directly to the Windows Server and I can connect to a remote desktop session using Domain Accounts, but I can not connect to a remote desktop session using local accounts. I get the error message "You are not entitled to use this system”.   I have added the local accounts to the View Agent Direct Connection User group, but that didn’t help. At the LOG IN prompt in the Windows View client there is a drop down menu for the Domain, I see my domain and the hostname of the Windows Server 2012 R2.  I have looked though the "View Agent Direct-Connection Plug-In Administration VMware Horizon 6.0"  PDF manual and it says to start the Server Manager and navigate to Remote Desktop Services to configure entitlements.   I don't see any options there to manage the entitlements.   Does anyone have any ideas how to manage the entitlements in Server 2012 R2?

Can't add Composer into Horizon View 6 Administrator console

Hi,

I've built a test environment consisting of three ESXi 5.5U2 hosts.  One one of those hosts I run the following

VCenter - W2KR2 running SQL2008R2 Express SP3

View - W2KR2

Composer W2KR2 running SQL2012 Express

Using the web client I can connect to VCenter and manage the environment happily.  I am trying to install Composer into this VSphere environment however I can't connect the composer server in the existing View administrator console.  I have tried using both a standalone Composer server and also installing Composer on VCenter.  View appears to be functioning correctly as I can connect to virtual desktops using PCoIP.  I would now like to test the linked clone functionality using Composer.

I am using the self-signed certs for this test, so can see the warning when I try to add the composer box.  I can accept the cert but get an error every time - the wording is not always the same :

"Error while attempting to connect to View Composer"

or "A connection problem occurred between Connection Server, View Composer, and vCenter Server.  Check that all the services are running and the ports and URLs are entered correctly"

I have confirmed that port 18446 is listening on both servers (Windows firewall is turned off).  The VMware View Composer service is running on both servers and running as a local account.   I have checked the SQL logs, and the composer logs on both vCenter and the dedicated Composer server, but can't see specific errors when trying to connect.  I've checked the DSN and the database as per the install guide and can verify connection.

What I do see are SChannel errors on both VCenter and Composer which correspond with connection attempts :

SCHANNEL Error #36887  The following fatal alert was received: 46

I am presuming these are connected with acceptance of the untrusted SSL cert and is therefore expected behavior.

I've attached logs below and some screenshots of errors.

Thanks

View Security Server remote access with Floating Pools

Have any of you guys deployed or managed a View environment w a Security Server in the DMZ and had users connecting from the outside to linked clone desktops on the internal network? Currently our environment is this:

- Two internal connection servers, one for internal only connections and the second paired with our Security Server in our DMZ

- Palo Alto PA-3020 Firewall with rules to allow external connections being proxied through the security server to our internal desktops

- RSA 2-factor configured for the external connections

The issue is that to get external connections to work we have to explicity have the IP address or IP range of the VM being connected to in our firewall rule to allow PCoIP traffic to flow from the internal desktop towards our DMZ security server and vice versa. This is fine with persistent full desktops but we're trying to migrate towards linked clones which have dynamic IP's and different users (ones w remote access permissions and ones w no remote access permissions).

I've spoke with Palo Alto and had a couple tickets open w them on getting the user-id function to work in this use case but they were unable to get it to work because the user-ip mapping was not being recognized on the DMZ security server, only on the internal connection server was there an ip-user mapping.

Has anyone gotten remote access to linked clone desktops to work with an enterprise firewall without specifying an IP range in the firewall rule? Our main concern with doing that is that someone could pick up somebodies lost RSA key and use that token to get in and then be able to log into their own desktop/someone else's that theyve obtained credentials to.

I suppose you can make a pool exclusively for remote access and use a connection server tag to pin it the external connection server.

Hi there,

I ran into a problem that the workspace server join domain failed when I was configuring the connector-va server.

This is a fresh installation. And the configurator-va is already successfully configured.

There pops up some error message as below screenshot:

joinDomainFail.png

The 'krbtgt' is not a account record in AD, I've no idea whats that.

The rest 4, they're server name, I cannot figure out why servers are here. This supposed to be a stage for account, not server.

How to get over this, anybody help me out?  Thanks in advance.

Does USB redirection work with a View Windows Client connecting to an RDS Pool running Server 2012 R2

I have installed the Horizon View Agent (6.0.0) and View Direct Connection Plugin (6.0.0) on a physical server running Windows Server 2012 R2 with Remote Desktop Services enabled.  I would like to use USB redirection from the client to the server.   When I log into the remote desktop session using the Windows View client,  it tells me that USB redirection is disabled.   I have tried connecting the View Client to the View Connection server and directly to the RDS server with the same result.  Do I need to enable RemoteFX on the Windows Server running RDS for USB redirection to work ?  I don't have any RemoteFX hardware, that is why I haven't tried it yet.

We are receiving reports of multiple users randomly being disconnected from view, and then when they try to re-connect they receive a black screen and are then disconnected again. The only way to correct it so they can re-connect is by resetting the desktop.  The following is a section of the log file on the client.  Any help would be appreciated!!

I assume that many of you with exictement have read through all news in vSphere 5.1

What cought my eye in View point of view was this:

"

Improved 3D Graphics Support– (View Only) –  hardware acceleration with possiblity to leverage NVIDIA’s hardware  cards installed in ESXi server, where those graphics cards are  virtualized and used in View Desktops. It’s targeted for graphics  intensive workloads, CAD designers, medical imaging etc…

NVIDIA Quadro 4000/5000/6000 and NVIDIA Tesla M2070Q are supported graphics cards.  Note that the ESXi Image profile must be installed with the NVIDIA GPU VIB file."

It certainly raises some questions for me:

a) The Nvidia GPU VIB-files is that free of charge or is it licensed from Nvidia or Vmware?

b) Have anyone tested 5.1 with Quadro-cards (and VMware Techie out there?) Pros? Cons?

c) Is the GPU fully accessible from the View guest or is there some kind of abstraction layer in between? After some research it seems like the abstraction layer is utilizing Xorg in a clever way.

Best way to Rebalance local disks with linked clones?

Hi,

  • Running View 5.2, looking to upgrade soon.
  • We use local storage (FusionIO).
  • Each pool is spread across 4 servers running these local storage.
  • Our linked clones are non-persistent - users don't get a specific desktop, and desktops are deleted on logout.

So, I'd like to patch the servers.

My thinking on this is:

  1. Edit the pool to remove the local storage on the sever to be patched.
  2. Rebalance.
  3. Perform update (maintenance mode, yada yada).

So the rebalance operation is having limited success in my first test

I am aware of this: VMware View 5.2 Documentation Library : You cannot load-balance virtual machines across a resource pool. For example, you cannot use the View Composer rebalance operation with linked-clones that are stored on local datastores.

So I cannot rebalance (first of all, I'm not sure why? In my case, can't machines just be deleted and recreated elsewhere - considering a rebalance also does a refresh anyway)?

What is the best approach?

  • I need to ensure that available desktops on the specific server local storage are not available anymore (once there are more sources available on another server storage) so that users don't connect/are not connected when I do maintenance.
  • I need to ensure that connected desktops on the specific server local storage are deleted on logout (as usual) and do not get recreated on that storage again.

Of course, when the server comes back up, I need to reverse the process and get desktops back onto it, and maintain a balance across the other servers.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

We have a problem in our environment where we are running 2x dual monitors 1920x1080 displays for Win 7 x64 VMs connecting from Win7/8 Thin clients with VMWare View Clients 3.2 32bit and running VMWare View 5.3

We are finding we get random disconnects of the sessions and the logs on the clients show that the session has dropped and it is re configuring the displays, any ideas?

I've recently successfully installed the HTML access feature on a Horizon View 6.0 connection server.

While attempting to add this feature to a security server associated with that server, I'm presented with the following message:

Screen Shot 2015-01-19 at 1.07.55 PM.png

(Afterward the application errors out and refuses the install.)

I have been unable to find any information in the Vmware Docs as to why Domain Admin rights are required, or what check is being performed during this the install of the HTML tools.

Random Replication of USB connected HP P2035 LaserJet printers in Win 7 64 Bit Pro Registry and Devices in VM using Horizon View without redirection

Windows 7 Pro vm quest OS accumulating multiple random copies of USB connected printers on connection to automated pool of 24 floating virtual machines. The actual physical connected printer is brought to an offline state resulting in installed applications submitting print jobs to bogus printers. I am working with HP t520 Flexible Thin Pro Clients on  ESXi 5.5. The VMware application layer in play consists of the Horizon View Client 3.2, View Agent 5.3.1, and VM Tools v.9349 . I have set the View redirection options at the Thin Client to each available scenario and cannot seem to get rid of the problem yet. Anyone else experiencing this?

Printing in Win 7 x64 Linked clone pool I get error "Not enough memory...."

Hi All,

I have a Windows 7 x64 Linked clone with the latest View 5.3 Agent installed.  I also have a mix of some using the View 3.2.0 Desktop Client and 5.3.0-1427931 on both Win 7 and win xp.

The issue is when I print a document, generally from excel, from the VDI to their local printer using thin printing an error message pops up stating there is not enough memory.  If the user closes all applications and opens only the program they are printing from then it works. I recently upgraded all of my pools to win 7 x64 from win 7 x32.  We never had that issue in x32.

If anyone has any suggestions I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks,

David
