Accessing without password

Hi,

 

When we're in the office, we authenticate in our virtual desktops using smart cards so the users don't need to know their Active Directory password which is automatically generated.

 

Now, we want to provide access to virtual desktops via the Internet. In this case users will access from their home computers or their tablets. Of course, these devices don't have a card readers so we will have to give the Active Directory passwords to the users.

 

Anyone know a solutions to access virtual desktops without knowing the Active Directory password? (It doesn't matter if it's a 3rd party solution).

Hide CPU name/model in guests VMs

Hello,

 

All components of a ESXi host are virtualized. You have a vNIC, VRAM and vCPU. For this last, however, the virtualisation is not "full".

The name, model and frequency of CPU are shown in guest OS.

 

The problem happens when you changed ESXi hardware with new CPUs. When you do this, the next time you boot, Windows 7 detects new CPU, install it, and ask you to reboot. And if you have llinked clone this is endless : you reboot, VM is refreshed, restart, re-install CPU and ask you to reboot...

Your only solution is to boot master, install CPUs, reboot master and recompose your pool.

 

I have forgot something ? My configuration is wrong ? What should I do ?

Using diffrent CPU model in ESXi in the same cluster is therefore not possible ?

 

It would be nice if someone can give me some informations about how this work, why, and how do you do if possible

Updating SSl certificate in vmware view connection server and security server

Hi Folks,

 

I want upgrade SSL certificate in my vmware view connection server and security server . most of VDI client are  thin client which are just delivering SAP application solution via VDI.

 

so if i will update my SSL certificate in my vmware view servers does it create any impact on my vdi thin client ?

 

Do i reqired  any changes at VDI thin client ?

Horizon View 6 RDS with nvidia K1

Hi community,

 

trying to figure out if PCoIP HW Acceleration works with the new RDS Implementation. I tried using vSVGA with my nvidia K1 card and Console Opengl Support works smooth (looked at the nvidia-smi command). I want to try bringing that speed to my RDS Users using PCoIP Protocol, but it seems that the K1 card is not used -- the connection uses the software opengl API which is not able to solve my perfomance requirements. Are there any options to configure that PCOIP is using the hardware Opengl API?

Server workloads on DaaS

Hi

 

I have tried to find a definitive answer for this in documentation but cannot find anything so I am asking on here.  Within a tenant environment on DaaS is there a limit to the server workloads that can be run on the desktops?  I have seen on the VMware Education course 226670 Horizon DaaS Technical Overview that it supports 2 server workloads - AD and a File Server.  Is this a licensing limit, a technical limit or a supported limit?  Could a customer have 2 DCs and a File Server running within their environment or is the license for just 2 server workload instances so this would be breaching?

VM crashed Black screen

We had a user's vdi virtual machine just black screen. She couldn't reconnect. All others were okay and working fine. I couldn't reset the virtual machine by remote tools, or vcenter. I was able to do a force reset using view administrator. VM worked fine. How can i trace down this issue?

View Desktop (Win8.1) freezes (on Wyse P25?)

Hi,

we are using View 5.3 (ESX 5.5U2) with Wyse Zero Clients P25.

We have the problem that sometimes the Win8.1 Desktop freezes (Mouse and Keyboard not responding) before login.

We are using Wyse P25 Clients (PCoIP). A reset of the Wyse client mostly resolves this issue.

Does anybody know this failure and has any solution for this behavior?

Reconnecting to vCenter at address

Hello,

 

I've setup my Vmware View server and Event Database today. Added my vmware vcenter server.

In my monitoring -> events I keep seeing:

 

Severity: Info

Module: Connection Server

Message: vCenter at address https://vmware:443/sdk is up

 

and

 

Severity: Info

Module: Connection Server

Message: Reconnecting to vCenter at address https://vmware:443/sdk

 

every 3 to 10 seconds. Everything seems to work ok. But why so many logging?

We are using vmware heartbeat for our vcenter servers does this has something to do with this?

 

Products:

Vmware ESXi 5.5

Vmware View 6.0.1

Vmware Heartbeat 6.6

Vmware vCenter 5.5

Olympus RecMic DR-1200 Causing Restart Prompt

Hi,

 

I can't help but feel I've missed something to find myself in this situation, hoping someone out there can help?

 

We have Horizon View 5.2 and use the Dell/Wyse P45 Zero Clients.  We use Windows 7 linked-clone desktop pools.

 

I've configured the USB Device Passthrough by splitting the Olympus RecMic device and this works great in the dictation software on the virtual desktop  However, whenever we plug in the Olympus RecMic, Windows installs the drivers and then prompts for a reboot.  Obviously this is pointless, as on restart, the desktop refreshes, and we go through the exact same issue again and again.  Without the restart, the device still works perfectly, but there is no Windows group policy to supress this message that I've found.

 

When I was configuring the Windows 7 gold image, I connected the Olympus device via the VSphere console so that the drivers would install on the desktop before the desktop pool was created.  So the question is, why is it installing the drivers again when the device is connected to the USB port on the zero client?  Is there anything I can do to stop this happening?

Teradici Console cannot discover devices

I have a EVGA PCoIP zero client being used with Horizon View 5.3.

 

Using the zero client, I am able to connect to a provisioned VM.

 

Using the vSphere client, I deployed the Teradici PCoIP mgt OVF and configured the networking.

 

I then launched the Teardici PCoIP Mgt Console via Firefox.

 

When I go to the devices screen, I do not see the zero client.

I tried adding a range of IPs and the FQDN but still no luck adding the device.

 

Do I need to enable something in order to add devices?

 

I would like flash the current device with a new firmware update.

Upgrade composer 2.6 to 3.0

Hi boys

I need upgrade my  composer from 2.6 to 3.0, now composer is active on windows 2003 server with vcenter server.  My view connection server is 5.0

I have moved the composer db on windows 2008 sql.

It is possible move the composer, separatly from vcenter, on new window 2008 R2 server with new ip address and hostname? 

I have read the vmware view upgrade 4.6, but i have big problem for identify where i need configure the view connection to talk to new location of composer .....

VMs screen goes black after 15 minutes of idle time...

We have a scenario on our campus where professors start movies and then after 15 minutes of idle time they have to move the mouse to get the desktop to appear again. The screen goes black. I have no GPO's applied. So far we are seeing this on Thin clients, but I'm sure its happening on provisioned desktops as well. Any ideas on how to stop this from occurring? Thanks

Slow Opening Excel File with MACRO and LINKS from Network File server on View Desktop compare to physical PC

Hi guys,

This is a weird one.

I just encountered a very strange problem when opening one of the excel files that sits on a Linux file server running Samba shared.

 

My Physical Laptop has a Dual Core2 Duo 2.27 GHz, 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7 Pro 32-bit.

My View Desktop has 2 vCPU (host CPU at 2.99 GHz/Core with 16 Core), 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.

Note: The View Desktop sits on the FusionIO card locally on the server so it's lightning fast.

 

When I opened that excel file from my physical desktop, it'll takes 3 seconds to open and 5 seconds to Enable the Content (Because it's a big xls file with a bunch of MACRO and LINKS to another spreadsheet)

When I opened that same excel file from View Desktop, it'll takes 18 seconds to open and 1 minute to Enable the Content.

 

Anyone else happened to have experience the same issue with their View environment?

Do you mind sharing some tips to troubleshoot this?

PCoIP - Session freezing or turning black intermittently

Hi,

 

We've recently installed PCoIP based Thin Client at our remote sites and we're experiencing issues with screens freezing or turning black momentarily.

 

Having looked at the PCoIP server log files on the VMs themselves I'm not seeing any issues. I've attached a snippet from the PCoIP logs for a particular VM from yesterday between 16:00 & 16:10. One of my Tech Support colleagues was on the phone to the user in question and it apparently happened three times during their conversation (16:01, 16:04 & 16:07) but I'm not seeing anything of any note in the logs. Would someone mind taking a look to see if I'm missing something?

 

When previously looking at another user experiencing the same issue I did come across this error:

This led me to a Teradici KB article - Why has my display temporarily shown a black screen? (15134-1687)

 

The article says that this is by design and due to the client and host on communicating for 5 seconds or longer. At least I had something to work on with this one and I've contacted our MPLS provider with the Teradici Network Optimisation Checklist to see if there are any further network changes we can apply, but the attached log example doesn't appear to give me anything to go on.

 

We do have a single APEX 2800 card in one of our 12 VDI hosts, but the issue isn't isolated to VMs on this host, so I think we can rule that out.

 

Any assistance would be great and if any further logs or details are required I'm happy to oblige.

VMware View, Wyse Zero Client and the Windows Lock Screen

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this odd situation:  We are running View 5.2.0 agent with Windows 7 x64 on a 5.3 server and use Wyse P24/45 zero clients for the users desk.  Each desk has (so far) two monitors.  Everything is fine, however in some situations when a user locks their workstation to walk away, it will lock but still display a static image on the secondary monitor of whatever was open there at the time of lock.  So for instance, if a user had cnn.com open on the right (secondary) monitor when they lock, that page is still visible, while on the left (primary) monitor the standard

CTRL-ALT-DEL screen is shown.  The page (or whatever is still visible) is in no way interactive, and since the image is static, even if the page auto-refreshes you will only ever see the content as it appeared when the machine was locked.  When the user unlocks, both screens go black as they normally do and then display current content.

 

Has anyone else seen anything like this?  It's not the biggest of deals, however it would be a security concern if a user left a sensitive document up on their secondary monitor, and locked their workstation to walk away.

Flash URL redirection for Horizon View VDIs

Hi,

 

I have implemented HTML access for VMware Horizon View. I runned remote experience agent and installed HTML access component only and web access of VDIs are working fine.

 

I have to now try flash url redirection.

 

I installed this component too by running again .exe of remote experience agent. I am following document : http://www.vmware.com/pdf/horizon-view/horizon-view-52-feature-pack-document.pdf which says to verify feature is installed by checking if ViewMPServer.exe process is running on desktop by taking a PCoIP session of virtual machine at page  number 29 of this pdf.

 

 

But i am not able to locate this process. checked in task manager too. Can anybody suggest me how I can check if this process is runnning?

Licensing of merged View Desk licenses

Hello all,

 

I am trying to connect two licences that have been merged to my cluster (2 ESXi hosts). At the moment 100VMs are licensed and the license key is assigned to both assets (ESX 1 and 2).

Another license for 10 machines has been merged by VMware. The problem is that I am not able to assign both license keys to the assets. Only one license key is accepted by choosing a radio button. That means that I can only configure the license for 100 or 10 View Desktops.

 

Is there an option / configuration for this?

View composer with local storage - copy over network?

Question:

When I create a linked clone desktop pool on local storage, a replica is created on each local datastore where linked clones are created. When the parent-VM is located on shared storage, accessible to all hosts, how is that parent VM copied to the local datastores? Is that over the management network interface or over the storage interface? And is it possible/supported to have the parent VM not on shared storage, but on one of the local datastores?
