high PCoIP transmit packet loss over wifi

$

We're slowly starting to open our VDI environment to external access and are seeing more and more users come back stating that their VDI session will occasionally pause for up to 10 seconds.  It never disconnects, just freezes.  I've also experienced this, but, here's the kicker, only accessing externally and only if I'm connecting via wifi.  At my home, for example, I had a zero client plugged into my router with my laptop going over wireless.  Packet loss is very minimal on the zero client yet it's quite high going through a wireless connection even though I'm right above the access point (it's sitting in my basement).  I've never run into internet issues through my wireless connection and the speed is good.  Latency is a bit higher, as expected, but nothing through the roof.  Attached are some of the PCoIP logs from the VDI session.

Our VDI image is Win7 and has been properly tweaked.  We've also included some PCoIP-specific settings like max audio bandwidth, disabled build-to lossless, and min/max quality levels.  No USB redirection is allowed externally as well.  So I guess my question would be does anyone have any thoughts on how to help prevent such a large transmit packet loss?  Are there any additional tweaks to try?  Most of our users are wireless from home and my concern is this will become a larger issue as more and more use this from their home connection.

Hey everyone,

im located in the united states, my vdi pool is intended for use by users in china. what are you guys using to simulate the bandwidth/latency for users that arent "local" to the data center

i want to simulate what their experience would be like. Some users complain that its slow, ive been looking at performance on the host side and cpu/memory etc look good.

any suggestions?

Thanks guys

Horizon View Admin page denying access before asking for a login

Hi,

We started experiencing some strange behaviour with our View 6.0.1 server that began yesterday. I suspect there were some configuration changes made on the server, but nobody's fessing up.

Now, when we visit https://myviewserver.domain.local/admin, it displays the error "Your account is not allowed to operate through this console."

This is prior to ever being asked to login.

So far, I've cleared my browser cache + restarted. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled Horizon View on the server (keeping the database).

Neither of these resolved anything.

Has anyone ever run into this or have any ideas?

Many thanks.

End user control of refresh / snapshot revert

Is there any way to allow a end user the ability to revert a snap shot?

I have a group of testers that need the ability to log on to a VM, install software and reboot before beginning test, but when when done need to have the VM reverted to a clean state.

I can't find a way to allow this.

..

Setting the pool to non-persistent will cause the VM to refresh on restart / log off, but they need the ability reboot without causing the refresh.

Missing "VMware View Virtual USB Hub" with View 6.0

We are having a problem with USB-PassThrough from a ZeroClient to a View 6.0 Virtual Desktop. I have read though the release notes which mentions a potential problem with the initial View agent install - I have reinstalled following the recommendation wait time below with no luck. (although I have got the USB option selected during the install wizard)

https://www.vmware.com/support/horizon-view/doc/horizon-view-60-release-notes.html

The USB HUB device driver might not be installed properly when you install View Agent on a desktop in a manual desktop pool. This issue can occur if, during the View Agent installation, you restart the system before the USB HUB device driver is fully installed.
Workaround: When you install View Agent and you are prompted to restart the system, check the system tray to see if the USB HUB device driver software is still being installed. Wait until the device driver software is completely installed (typically about 30 seconds) before you restart the system.
If you use a command-line script to install View Agent silently, make sure to wait or sleep the script for long enough to allow the driver installation to complete before you restart the system.
If you encounter this issue after View Agent is installed, or you could not delay the system restart during a silent installation, update the USB HUB device driver by taking these steps:
1. In the Device Manager, under Other Devices, right-click VMware View Virtual USB Hub.
2. Click Update Driver Software > Browse my computer for driver software.
3. Go to C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\Agent\bin\drivers and click Next to let Windows install the driver.

The problem is that the release notes and every other resource keeps mentioning to look under "Other Devices" and "VMware Virtual USB HUB" which we don't have. I have tried searching for a way to install or add these manually with no luck. Currently USB works when connecting to a blade client but not the View Desktops. Has anybody had this issue or have any solution for fixing it. Attached is a snapshot from my device manager on the Virtual desktop which I am connected to using a ZeroClient - There is no VMware USB device to be seen anywhere. We have redone the client installation using "VMware-viewagent-x86_64-6.0.0-1884979.exe". If I Browse to the Bin directory mentioned in Step 3 above I only see drivers for a Webcam - am at a complete loss as to finding or installing the required USB devices.

Clipboard Redirection not working on Horizon View Desktop Client

Having issues with clipboard redirection not working when connected to a VM through the Horizon View Desktop Client.  I've tried a few things and it has just gotten worse.

My environment is vCenter 5.5, Horizon View 6.0 and the View workstations are Windows 7 SP1.  Running on a Windows Server 2008R2 environment.

The default setting of being able to copy from the client to the agent was working fine.  I went and downloaded the Horizon View 6.0 GPO bundle and added the PCoIP.adm file to my Group Policy Manager and applied to the OU that housed the VDI VMs.

I changed the "Configure Clipboard Redirection" setting to "Enabled in both Directions" under "Not Overridable Administrator Settings".  Applying this GPO stopped copy and paste from working completely.

I then tried changing the "Configure PCoIP virtual channels" GPO to only allow connections from mksvchan even thought the default is to allow all connections.  Still nothing.

At this point I'm at a loss, I'm not sure how applying this GP actually made it worse, anyone else have this issue?

Thanks in advance,

Confining View to one monitor not two

Hi everyone, I am running Horizon View for Mac.  I have an iMac with an attached external monitor.  I like to run View full screen, but when I do it by default takes over the second screen as well.  I have tried to use Windows Control panel in the VM to remove the 2nd display entirely, but I cannot seem to do that.  Can anyone help me figure out how to limit View to just one display while still running it in full screen mode on that display?  Thanks.

Mouse Pointer Response through Citrix VPN

We have a Citrix Web Access Gateway VPN solution.

We published the VMware View 2.3.3 client in XenApp.

Users from outside access the Citrix VPN page, launch View, then connect to a server and pool.  Windows 7 x64 machines.

Mouse movement is erratic, but ONLY with the main pointer.  Hourglass, text selection, and other cursors move fine.

Changing the Mouse Pointers to none doesn't make any difference (fix for the same issue through RDP instead of View Client).

Instead we found that changing the Mouse Pointers to "Windows Inverted" instantly fixes the issue.

It's not latency.  Since the other cursors all move fine (and right now reproducing with > 1ms latency).

If it's Citrix, why are only some themes affected, and why one on RDP, and another on View?

Anyone run into something similar to this?

How can I make Google Chrome settings persistent like Microsoft IE?

Linked clone / floating pool

Microsoft IE settings (Favorites and such) are persistent, but Google Chrome is not upon log off of a linked clone from a floating pool.

I have the pool setup to delete the linked clone upon log off as well.

How can I make the Google Chrome settings persistent.

I need to have a "Chrome Extension" stay with a user after its added, but its going away upon log off.

I tried adding the extension to the master image but no good.

Thanks!

View Storage Accelerator is unavailable because vSphere 5.0 or higher is required

Hello,

I'm putting new POC for vSphere 5.5 + Horizon View 5.2 (latest codes) for upcoming client project, but it looks like I can't enable View Storage Accelerator with grey out option:

View Storage Accelerator is unavailable because vSphere 5.0 or higher is required

As you see, I'm using vSphere 5.5 and vCenter 5.5 Appliance and deployed all 4 VMs (Connection, Security, Composer, Transfer servers on each VM) why does it said I need vSphere 5.0 and higher, but I already using 5.5?

Anyone see this before?  By any chance?

Is it possible to change the  type of 3D-graphics acceleration available in View virtual desktops?

I mean if I have some VM configured for VSGA and just for some time they need a VDGA and at the end of the graphic intensive job they need to switch back to VSGA is it possible?

View 5.3.1 Pool Deployment Issue

I am building up a View Test Environment. I've got everything built up, but am at the point of building the Pool.

View clones the Base Image, makes the VMs with the correct names and seems to add the machines to the domain correctly. Machine accounts are made in AD.

Connection server says: View Composer agent initialization state error (18): Failed to join the domain

Problem is, the VMs are conencted to the domain. I can logon as a domain user on the VM's no issue.

I am using Connection Server 5.3.1-build 1634134

Agent is version 5.3.1-build 1634134.

I don't know what logs to post and where to find them to give helpers all the information.

Thanks,

View Desktop Pools - Multiple Network Labels - Pool enabled but new VMs not getting label

$

In View 5.2 and above we have the option to assign network labels to a Desktop Pool, allowing for a single parentvm that is then assigned to the correct vLan/s based on the pool it is provisioned under. I've followed all of the steps here (VMware View 5.2 Documentation Library) and my test pool shows the correct value for the 'NetworkLabelSpecs' property. However, when I provision a new VM in that pool, it is not being assigned to the correct network label and when I get properties of the new VM its 'NetLabelAutoAssigns' property is listed as 'disabled'.

Has anyone seen this? Do I need to make a change to the parent VM for the newly provisioned VMs to receive the correct assignments?

Any help would be great.

Petition towards a Linux View Agent - Sign/drop a line if interested!!

$

In this community you can find a couple of threads where people are asking the development of a View Linux agent.

This agent would make the option of a linux desktop pool in View manager available.

I understand this is not as easy as it sounds, there are many linux distro's and technical difficulties to achieve this goal.

On top of that, if we ever get this agent, we will expect it to works as good as the Windows version, have PCOIP and USB redirection, ...

Therefor I would like to make a suggestion to VMware to develop a virtual appliance where one or two of the most used linux distro's are prepared by VMware. Limited support is acceptable if you tampered with the virtual appliance and broke the view addon. In my opinion Ubuntu LTS is a strong candidate to have such a virtual appliance.

I ask everyone who would like to see this suggestion developed to drop a line in this thread  AND sign the petition.

"I second the request" would be enough to let VMware know how many of you are out there requesting this feature.

SPREAD THE WORD AND SIGN!!

Distributing VMware View Agent

$

I am working on a View 6 environment. There are about 100 desktops that are either physical(that we want RDP access to) or are VM's in Persistent full clone pools. We're trying to figure out a way to distribute the View agent but we're running into issues every different way we try it. Here's what we've done so far;

1. We've tried to create a powershell script that copies the agent from a network share to the local disk and run the agent installer using a command like C:\temp\agent6.0.exe /l"C:\Temp\agent_install_log.log" /s /v"/qn VDM_VC_MANAGED_AGENT=0 VDM_SERVER_NAME=10.X.X.91 VDM_SERVER_USERNAME=username VDM_SERVER_PASSWORD=*******"

     i. With this approach is if the view agent is already loaded the installer just uninstalls the agent.

ii. We've also seen the agent install without a reboot actually being initiated

iii. on the physical workstations we've noticed issues with the systems being flagged for reboots and requiring a restart before continuing, so the install fails

2. We've also tried using the "agent6.0.exe /a" install and create the MSI for distribution through GPO

     i. running into issues on the physical workstations where we can't pass custom properties to the MSI through the GPO

ii. we've seen the agent just uninstall from the station/vm if it's installed already, and we don't see a switch on the installer to force an upgrade instead of uninstall

3. We tried a MSI packager to see if we could add properties. Couldn't get an installer that works properly

4. Tried to edit the "agent6.0.exe /a" MSI with Microsoft Orca and change the properties.

     i. Couldn't get the installer to function we keep getting an Error 2600

Any thoughts or other ways to get this done would be helpful

User with multiple pool entitlements, auto logs onto a specific pool

$

I have a user with 2+ pool entitlements - when he logs onto a zero client, he is automatically connected to a desktop in one of the pools (call it "Pool-A"), rather than receiving a pool selection screen.  If he is removed from the Active Directory group entitled to "Pool-A", then he is presented with the normal pool selection screen.  As soon as he is added back to the Active Directory group, his account is automatically logging onto a desktop in "Pool-A" again.  What would cause this?  Other users entitled to multiple pools (including "Pool-A") are receiving the pool selection screen, as far as I know it is only this one user account which is almost acting like a "Kiosk" account.

Any ideas or things to check? I already verified connection server/pool tags...
