Recompose issue

Trying to recompose some pools but need to do the ones that are not in use.  When I start the recompose process I can see the cloning new machine in Vcenter then after that completes it just halts.  Nothing changes in Vcentter and nothing changes in View manager.  When i look at teh VM in Vcenter the machine is powered off and never comes back on.  I waited well over 30 minutes for it to change but nothing.  If yI try to manually power teh VM on it powers on but then  gets an error "Provisioning error occurred for Machine view004: Refit operation resync failed"  After that it continues to recompose the VM but uses the old Image and not teh new one.  Tried this on multiple VM's and two different pools.  Anyone have an idea what is going on?  Running Horizon View 5.2 on ESXi 5.1 U1. Vcenter and Composer server are separated.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

View 5.0 unable to communicate to 5.0 U1a vCenter - "The service is not working properly"

This View instance has 4 connection brokers running on Windows Server 2008 R2:

The environment was upgraded 2 years ago from view 4.6 to view 5.0.  When View 4.6 was used there were 2 additional Windows 32-bit connection brokers in the mix as well but they were both disabled during the 5.0 upgrade since View 5.0 requires 64-bit Windows. They were disabled but NOT completely removed from View.  As part of my troubleshooting of this issue I decided to remove those two disabled connection brokers from the system since it seemed as though they were causing some syncing errors between the brokers.

Here are my steps I’ve taken so far and in this order as far as I can remember them:

1.) Restarted the vCenterServer services including VMware Management webservices

2.) Full reboot the vCenter server

3.) Started digging through the Connection broker logs  to see if anything stood out in there – found that there was a WARNING message about not being able to connect to https://<vcenterserver>:443/sdk.  Found a number of articles and blog posts about the service account no longer working.  Verified that the service account was not locked out and was working by logging onto the vCenter server via RDP successfully.

4.) Edited the vCenter server entry in View Manager and re-typed in the account password and to ensure it was still able to connect successfully and it can.

5.) Further research on VMware KB site and communities found an article stating that the time on the connection brokers may be out of sync.  Logged onto each one of the brokers and double-checked the time was all in sync and it is.

6.) Checked to be sure all the LDAP databases were syncing properly – this is where I decided to remove the old un-used brokers from the environment and force a successful replication to each of the brokers neighbors using repadmin utility.

7.) After forcing the replication I went in a restarted the vCenter Mangment web services again.  – At this point the connection between the broker and vCenter server came back but the pool that has a pending delete job did not continue and appeared stuck.

8.) After about 5 or 10 minutes the communication error with the vCenter popped back up again.

Also of note, this environment is connected to another vCenter and that one is working fine with no errors or stuck tasks.

Anyone have any additional things I should try?

Thanks,

Jason D.

Get-DesktopVM Slow

Hi

I have 12 pools in View server. Enumerating the desktops using "Get-DesktopVM" for these pools seems very slow in a powershell script. I'm passing pool_id to Get-DesktopVM cmdlet as argument in a loop with list of pool ids. Is there any recommendations available / hotfix to speedup this enumeration? If the underlying vCenter is constrained on resources, will it affect this behavior?

Blank Screen for VDI VMs

I noticed that if I connect to my VDI VM via VMware View Client and I don't logoff but disconnect the session and try to connect back I get a blank screen. How can I avoid this ?

I can set an option "Automatically logoff after disconnect:" after X mins but I don't want to use this option. Is there a way to fix this blank screen without changing "Automatically logoff after disconnect"

VDI VM - Windows 7

Desktop VM - Windows 7

VDI - VMware Horizon View 5.2

Pool - using PCoIP

Thanks

Hello all,  Is anyone aware of a way to close out the view client entirely when disconnecting from a desktop?  Currently when disconnecting it still leaves the users available machines up.  We have several conference rooms here that use a pc with the latest view client and  have had several instances of users disconnecting and walking way only to have there list of machine's still available for anyone to walk up and select on of them without having to sign on again..Attached is the screen that is left up after a users disconnects from a session

Keyboard and mouse input not being received to guest VM

Once again I'm here with my Evaluation, trying to figure out some bugs...

First off - we're using an HP thin client - with the latest View client (5.4) via PCoIP. It's running Windows Embedded Standard 7.

Connection server - 5.2

Guest VM - Windows XP

I'm having a strange issue. I can connect, view the guest VM, etc - however, I cannot interact with it from the HP Thin Client.

I can, however, connect with my laptop running Windows 7 x64. It works no problem. No issues using my mouse, keyboard, etc.

I'm not even sure where to begin looking - if I reinstall the VMware View agent, it works fine, until a few subsequent reconnects later and then the issue re-arises. Rebooting the Guest VM does nothing.

I appreciate the help, if anyone has any advice to offer or any idea of where to start looking..

Is Unity option available with View Client?

Hi all,

I just saw a demo of someone using VMware Fusion and it had an option called Unity view which displayed just a running application window from a Windows 7 vm in a MacOSX 10.9 operating system (the rest of the virtual desktop session got minimized to the system tray). Is something like this available through View Client (running View 5.2) when connecting from Macs OS 10.x systems, iPads, and Android tablets? We want to deliver apps to student devices and most are running Macs and it would be easier for them just to see the application they want than have to tool around inside of a Windows virtual desktop to get at the apps. What we are basically looking for is something like Citrix XenApp but we want to leverage our investment in VMware.

Thanks,

Brian

View 5.1 Windows Client SSL Offload Issues

$

I am testing View 5.1 with a Security Server and Connection server setup.  I have setup SSL Offload per the documentation - thumbprints in adam, locked.properties, certs are trusted, etc.  Everything works fine from Mac, Linux, and iOS View clients for RDP and PCoIP.  Windows View client on Windows XP, Windows 7, and Windows 8 have ssl issues.

I can connect and get authentication, but after I authenticate I get - The View Connection Server authentication failed.  The SSL initialization while connecting to server 'https://server.domain.com:443' failed.

View client debug log shows

SSL: clientHandshake: InitializeSecurityContext FAILED, Error 0x80090308 (The token supplied to the function is invalid)

Tunnel 0x02136AE0 failed to connect.

GetTunnelMsg: Unable to start the tunnel: "Tunnel failed to connect". Error message displayed was "The View Connection Server authentication failed. The SSL initialization while connecting to server 'https://server.domain.com:443' failed.". Proxy used to connect was '(null)', connection server was 'https://server.domain.com:443'

I do a WireShark trace and it shows a reset and malformed SSL packet.

Again all clients work except the Windows client.  If I switch from SSL offload to SSL proxy the Windows client works fine.  It just has a problem with SSL offload.  I am testing this with a NetScaler VPX latest 10.x code.

Deploy Red Hat Linux Desktop using VMware Horizon View?

Hi VMware Experts, I hope you can clarify something for me.

I would like to be able to create a Linux desktop Gold Image within Horizon, install my apps and then role this out to either ThinClients or repurposed FatClient Desktops

I have scoured the Web and I can't see anything pertaining to this being possible with Linux, and all answers point firmly back to Windows only!  Is this only suitable for Microsoft Windows based desktops?

I started looking at the Horizion View idea as I figured as I can create a Red Hat Linux VM in VMWare Workstation, install apps, clone it and then deploy it for remote access via RDP that the Horizon View would be the enterprize way of doing the very same thing!

To give some context, my end users are programmers and they currently use a physical Linux Desktop connecting to Linux Server VMs with ESXi

Any advice and guidance would be much appreciated as I have limited experience of VMWare in a Corporate context and I have a background in networking only

Thanks in advance

Am I correct in thinking that as there is no option to enable html access to an RDS based Terminal Service Pool, that this is not possible?

VMware Horizon View Administrator und QuickPrep Pfadangabe

Hallo liebe Community,

VMware Horizon View Administrator:

Was kann dahinter stecken?

Screen size on View Client for Mac

Hello, Is there a way to set the windows size on the client for MAC without having to use vmware-view URIs? I don't see the options that are available like the Windows Client. In the windows client I can just right click and set my Window size, not seeing that for the Mac Client. Thank You

Unable to add ThinApp Repository

I am having issues adding a thinapp repository (CIFS), I get an error "Failed to access the network path"

I am trying to add it via FQDN and have tested connectivity to the share (CIFS) from the view server successfully. I believe I am trying to connect to the share via domain admin account (my own) as this is the account that is setup to connect to vcenter server.

Anyone experience similar issue? Any help would be appreciated.

Attaching Persistent Disk Issue...

So we have gotten some new equipment for our view PoC and decided to create a new VC just for View. Well I detached the persistent disks we had in hopes of attaching after I created the new pools on the new VC. Well when I go to do that it gives me an error that the disk is not managed by the same virtual center as the machine.

Does anyone know how I can attach these persistent disks to the new Pool Desktop? Or at least mount them somewhere and get the data?

Thanks.

Horizon View PCOIP Gateway

We are testing Horizon View.

We setup a View Server and Security server.

View 192.168.1.5

Security 192.168.1.6

I set virtual.domain.com to go to external ip of Security and internal ip of View. So external users will go to Security first, and internal users will connect directly to View server.

One type can only work at a time. Under view connection server setting>PCoIP Secure Gateway is required with external ip for external users to connect. Enabling this breaks the internal users to connect to their desktops.

Vmware view client for linux

I'm trying to repurpose some old computers (about 50), I began working on a Ubuntu 12.04 image to deploy to these computers and it appears to work great except for 1 issue.  When you disconnect / logout / shutdown the session, you're dropped back into the screen where you select your desktop session (without logging on again).  Since I'm forcing the view client to fullscreen as well as specifying the desktop to connect to etc, we'd like the view client to logout or restart.  Is this possible?

VMWare View 5.3 vDGA slow fps Performance disappointing

$

I recently tested vDGA and - i was really disappointed. The frames per second rate is far below requirements of engineers (<15fps on 1 monitor). This result was not expected at all and does not match the advertising videos by VMWare (on one video you see 50-60fps in the upper right corner while running a game?!)

The environment:

Proliant DL380p gen8 with Dual CPU E2650 (2Ghz) with 128GB RAM and 2x 146 SAS HDs 15k, Gigabit Network

ESXi v5.5, View 5.3. nVida Quadro K2000 has been successfully linked to 1 VM via pci-passthrough on a host (no other vms were installed on this host).

All required BIOS-Settings on Server have been done. Installed OS on VM was Windows 7 x64 Enterprise, recent nVidia driver and vmview agent as well as feature pack 5.3 installed.

VM has been placed into a VMVIEW-Pool. Within VM, the SVGA Adapter has been deactivated in Windows device manager. Connection to VM via a ZeroClient (Wyse P25) has been successfully established. DXDiag shows Quadro K2000 as primary GPU and Passmark recognizes the gpu - any test from DirectX9 to DirectX11 runs successfuly - results are as expeced.

Conclusion: vDGA has been successfully established.

But: The frame rate is below 15 frames per second in average (peak max. 19fps) while running a video or moving windows around. The Process pcoip_server_win32 runs at about 15% in Average, Maximum peak was 40% (using 2 vCPUs). I think this service is responsible for encoding PCoIP Packets. I have prioritized this process from "High" to "RealTime" - without any performance improvements.

Implementing PCoIP GPO and setting higher frame rate (120 instead of 30), modifying the PCoIP-bandwidth settings and reducing PCoIP initial image quality as well as adding vCPUs (from 2 to 4) and all other settings suggested by documents from VMWare or Teradici to the VM didn't show any significant video improvements. Connecting 2 Monitors results in 8 fps in average...

Is it possible to speed up PCoIP encoding within Windows Session?? I think this is the bottleneck! In Citrix you are able to set a registry key to accelerate Software-Encoding.

Or is there another workaround or known setting which helps to accelerate the fps? Thank you in advance for your help.
