After unchecking PCoIP secure gateway on internal connection server, View Software clients get certificate error

Hi, we recently changed one of our view connection servers by unchecking the PCoIP secure gateway setting, and then using this server for internal connections from our VM's. We mostly use zero clients and have no problem connecting from them to our desktops, however when we try to connect using the View software client from a desktop inside the network, we receive the error shown below.

As you can see above, our server is presenting a proper cert. I found the following KB, which seems to address my symptoms accurately. However, the KB seems to assume that we want the connection to use the secure gateway, which we don't. See below for the values in the ADAM database. As you can see, they are currently empty.

Considering that everything is working fine from my zero clients, I am loath to mess around with this setting to fix a few software clients. Can anyone suggest another option, or provide any insight into why this might be happening?

I assume that many of you with exictement have read through all news in vSphere 5.1

What cought my eye in View point of view was this:

"

Improved 3D Graphics Support– (View Only) –  hardware acceleration with possiblity to leverage NVIDIA’s hardware  cards installed in ESXi server, where those graphics cards are  virtualized and used in View Desktops. It’s targeted for graphics  intensive workloads, CAD designers, medical imaging etc…

NVIDIA Quadro 4000/5000/6000 and NVIDIA Tesla M2070Q are supported graphics cards.  Note that the ESXi Image profile must be installed with the NVIDIA GPU VIB file."

It certainly raises some questions for me:

a) The Nvidia GPU VIB-files is that free of charge or is it licensed from Nvidia or Vmware?

b) Have anyone tested 5.1 with Quadro-cards (and VMware Techie out there?) Pros? Cons?

c) Is the GPU fully accessible from the View guest or is there some kind of abstraction layer in between? After some research it seems like the abstraction layer is utilizing Xorg in a clever way.

Which vSphere and/or vCenter Center editions are most appropriate for my application?

I'm interested in implementing a VDI project.  The system architecture will initially consist of 4 physical host servers (each with one multicore CPU) and a total of 10 guest virtual machines.  Over time the number of guest virtual machines will grow to about 40 guest virtual machines.  The guest VMs will all be identical (except for virtual machine name and IP address) so I’ll want some software that will simplify the cloning process.  My understanding is that I’ll need the vSphere Hypervisor on the 4 physical servers and a version of vCenter Server to help manage the system including cloning guest VMs.  What edition of the vSphere software and/or vCenter Server is best suited to this application?

Multiple sessions to the same guest OS?

Hey fellas!

First post here - I'm currently evaluating View

Bit of info - One pool - with one desktop assigned to it for this.

Anyways - What our setup is... we want our Guest OS to be displayed on 2x monitors via PCoIP. We have accomplished this - however, the head of the department this is for wants to know if it's possible to view the SAME Guest OS, session and all (real-time information on both screens) from multiple locations.

I've tried the "Multiple Sessions for each user" option... basically, I just want to "shadow" the same session to the host in 3 different places.

Is this possible? Searching hasn't been very helpful..

The datastores used for the pool are low on disk space.

in horizon manager, I am getting this message but i checked the datastores and they have lot of space. I am not able to provision any new desktops

any idea?

VMware View (Outlook address book 0x80004005)

Hello,

I ran into an issue where when trying to download offline address book gives an error code (0x80004005). This issue occurred only on our VDI environment, where normal fat desktops are not having this issue.

After deep investigation, I discovered that Persona redirection is the cause of this issue. Whenever I stop the persona service, things works fine.

Any idea how to sort out this issue?

Thanks,

Issue with Horizon View 5.3 View Composer installation on SQL Server 2012 Standard Edition

I am trying to install Horizon View 5.3 (latest release) View Composer on a remote SQL Server 2012 database. I am using SQL authentication and able to establish the ODBC connection.

However, I am unable to install and getting error related to database compatibility.

Since this is a new release, we do not have the adequate documentation for View 5.3 version

Can somebody suggest the version of SQL Native Client for this connection? I tried SQL Native Client 10 and it failed.

Cannot connect to Terminal Services pool using Vmware view client.

Hi all,

I'm trying to evaluate Vmware Horizon. I have set up a terminal services pool on my connection broker but when I try to connect to the pool I get the following error...

"This Desktop Currently has no Desktop sources available. Please try connecting to this desktop again later or contact your system administrator"

It was to my understanding that users should be get their own session when connecting to a terminal services server much like you would if you used windows remote desktop.

I am able to use the VMware client to access my other linked clone pools.

any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Policies

Hello, I'm reading the 5.2 admin guide for View and under the policies section there is an excerpt that states

"Lower-level policy settings can be more or less restrictive than the equivalent higher-level settings. For example, if the global policy that specifies the amount of time a desktop can be checked out is set to 10 minutes and the equivalent pool-level policy is set to 5 minutes, you can set the equivalent user-level policy to 30 minutes for any user in the pool

.

I'm not seeing where in the admin interface you can change how long a user can have a desktop checked out for 10 minutes as it mentions.

Office activation on Desktops

Hello, I'm curious what people are using to activate Windows and Office when using desktops that are part of a pool? Is a KMS server required. The reason I ask is because I tried activating Windows and office on the base image but now I'm getting the office activation wizard every time I open office on the virtual desktop because it detected changes in hardware. Any ideas or how this is being addressed by others is appreciated, Thank You

View 5.3 not powering on dedicated view desktops

I just recently upgraded to View 5.3 from View 5.1.  Everything is green and working normally in my dashboard.  Prior to my upgrade to 5.3, when a view user tried to connect to their desktop and it was off, vcenter would turn it on for them and they would be able to connect.  After my upgrade, when a view desktop is shutdown, view cannot turn it back on.  The end user gets the error:

"The assigned desktop source for this desktop is not currently available"

Anyone know why this could be?  I am on vcenter 5.5 and ESXi 5.5.

Thanks in advance.

Windows 8 fails to to log into connection server

We're setting up View 5.2 and have two desktops for testing. One desktop is running Windows 7 SP1 and the other, Windows 8. The desktops are on different networks.

When we try connect to the Connection server from the Windows 7 desktop (server.domain.com), authentication happens without issue and we can see the pools. When we do the same thing from Windows 8, we get the following message:

The View Connection Server authentication failed. Initialization failed while connecting to server 'https://server.comain.com:443'

We tried rebooting the machine, and have verified that we can telnet to the connection server, over port 443. How do we resolve this issue?

Thanks.

Multiple AD Domain Access

We are a Windows 2k3/2k8 and VDI View 5.0.1 shop that recently took over a sister agency that has their own AD domain. We would like to configure our View environment to allow this new group to login to their own AD domain within our VDI environment. We have recently configured a successful AD trust between the two primary AD domains. Since that trust has been created, I now see a Red Alert in my dashboard view within the View GUI under "Other components\Domains".

The Red Status indicates...

  • "The trust relationship could not be determined."
  • "Domain status error detected. View Administrator is unable to perform operations related to domain."

However, outside of View, Trust access on the desktops within each domain are working fine. Additionally, the View client does not allow you to select a different domain.

What else do I need to do within the many View components to allow VDI access to this other AD domain?

Thanks in advance...

Orphaned Linked clone pools after vCenter crash and replacement

Our physical vcenter server crashed over the weekend and I ended up building a new one on a VM. I've got mostly full clone desktop pools, but do have a couple of small linked clone pools. I have no problem losing these VM's. I'm unable to remove these now that the original vcenter server is out of commission, as I receive "cannot connect to the vcenter server" message when I try to delete these pools. Can anyone advise on a manual process to remove these pools from View?

Antivirus on View Servers

Hi

We are under pressure to install antivirus on our View servers.  I have found some documentation on AV for the VDI clients but what about the View servers themselves?  I'm trying to find some 'official' guidelines along with a list of file or folder exclusions (if necessary).  Does anyone else have AV installed on their View servers or can point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Dears,

Please advise me about priority of "pcoip_server_win32.exe" on Windows 7 32bit.

The process will be affect on Windows 7 32bit when we are using Tera2 zero client and it's configured as real time process.

External Access Policy

Hi,

I am currently doing a POC for VMware View to replace an existing Citrix infrastructure. The company has a policy where by when the system is accessed from outside the company network, no data can be removed. This means disabling Copy and Paste (clipboard going outside the VDI session), USB redirection, Printer redirection, etc. When the user is internal to the company network, some USB devices should be allowed, printer redirection needs to be turned on and copy and paste needs to work. This is currently set up in Citrix with policies that different depending on if the user session is coming through the Citrix Access Gateway or not.

I cannot seem to find a way to implement this with View. I have seen both the GPO policies and the Pool policy settings, but cannot figure out how to change them dependent on the Client environment. Ideally this would be determined by if the user was coming through a Security server or not (or, as they are paired, a connection server). Maybe using the tags?

All connections to the pool would be over PCoIP. There are two internal connection servers and two external connection / security server pairs, both load balanced. Security servers are located in a DMZ.

Help much appreciated, as this could be a show stopper for the View project.

Thanks,

Chris
