Redirected user sessions

Hi

Customer has brand new Horizon View 5.2 environment. Two connections servers that can be reached from the internet. These connection servers accept PCoIP connections from users outside.

 

Internally they also have some old Wyse thin clients that are not supporting PCoIP and need to make a direct RDP connection. They would like to use the same desktop pool, which allows both PCoIP and RDP. They therefore installed a third connection server which is only available internally. The wyse terminals make a direct connection to this connection server and are able to make their RDP connection. What surprised me is that user connections coming from the internet are also seen on the third connection server (which is installed as a replica).

 

Why would they be redirected?

VMWare Horizon View agent(5.2) uninstall/install after VMware tools upgrade

Hi all,

Is it still needed that VMWare Horizon View agent(5.2) has to be uninstalled/installed after VMware tools installation on a upgrade(migrate from vSphere 4.1 -> 5.1)

Is there anything about this in the View Documentation? I can only found some users report problems after VMware tools installation.. is there an official VMware statement?

Hello Everyone,

 

As stated on my subject, Im currently experiencing an error when logging in from my desktop to connection server via VMware Horizon View Client. Try already looking for answers from Google. Can anyone please give any recommendations of quick fix with this. Initially when I have a fresh installation, everything works fine but suddenly it doesn't work now.

Because of Intranet Enviroment, we can't connect to Internet. I already knew how to <Configure the View Client Download Links Displayed in View Portal>, so I think it maybe configured within Intranet.

What I'm talking about is designating one GPU for vSGA and pass-through the second GPU to a VM for high performance 3D work.  In theory this should work, but I'm curious to know if anyone has actually done this or could contribute to this line of thinking.  Right now I'm not chomping at the bit to buy a 3K+ card to test this theory out.

Applying Windows updates to the VMware View Server infrastructure

I'm looking for recommendations for the best way to undertake patching (i.e.Windows updates) of View Connection servers and vCenter servers running the View Composer service and the restarting of servers this requires. e.g. should i disable provisioning, will connected users be disconnected, how do I avoid possible LDAP database synch issues, is there a recommended sequence to do this in  etc.

Quickprep and KMS

Hello

 

I am really new at this kind of implementation.

 

I am having some issue with the KMS and the Quickprep.

 

My first question is: Where can I find the quickprep?

 

My second question: If my parent image has been activated with a KMS key, Is there any further step I should do so my linked clones machines get activated?

 

Is there any way to activate the desktop on a pool using a customization specification instead of a quickprep?

 

When I am creating the pool, in the step regarding guest customization. Is any value that I should put in the power-off scrip name, power off script parameters, post-synchronization script name and post-synchronization script parameters?

 

How do I configure the quickprep?

 

I have looked for information all around the internet and It's really hard to find information regarding this for dummys.

 

Can anyone walk me through this?

cheaper GPUs?

Wondering if anyone has spent some time working or playing with GPU cards not on the HCL?

 

A client of mine picked up a NVIDIA Quadro 4000 and I liked the performance it added.

 

Now the kicker as a consultant I haven't had much play with the GPUs and I was wondering if there are cheaper working alternatives that others have spent some time with.

Audio Issue and USB with teradici zero clinets

Hi,

 

I Have installed Horizon view with windows 7 32 bit as a virtual Desktops. Everything is working as expected. The only issue is with the Audio quality when using softphone and the USB printer.

The teradicci audio drivers are installed. The Audio  works fine but if the user starts dragging the application windows and starts web browser while on call, the quality of voice starts dropping and there is a disturbance in the audio.

 

Also I am facing a issue in HP P1566 usb printer installation, where in the printer is not getting installed. All the other USB printers and HID are working fine.

VMWare View 5.1 - USB Headset Redirection

Hi All,

 

I'm relatively new to VMWare View 5.1. We have linked clones running Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit, the virtual machines have 1x vCPU, 2GB RAM and 50GB Thin Provisioned C drives. The full View Agent is installed on the virtual desktops, with the Windows Firewall turned off. The VMWare recommended batch file has been ran to enhance performance.

The client operating system accessing the virtual desktop is Windows XP SP3. We have a problem where we are trying to connect our USB headsets directly to the virtual desktop using the connect usb option within the VM Client Window. The USB headset redirects fine, the guest Windows 7 virtual desktop installs a driver for it and the headset appears as a default audio device. The problem is all audio comming from the virtual machine to the USB headset is static, nothing recognisable. The audio we get does tie in with when we are producing the sound which indicates it is something the virtual machine is generating and not just interference.

 

We have tried other headsets, exact same problem.

The audio does work fine however when we don't redirect the USB headset to the virtual machine and just allow the client machine to produce the sound as PCOIP audio traffic.

 

Has anyone else seen this before and does anyone know if VMWare support the redirection of USB headsets?

Noisy audio on VMware View by using USB headset

Hi,

We have a problem on our VDI platform with USB headset, most of our users are Call Center user and need to good audio quality for their requets,

In normal cases, audio quality is good but when users wants to scroll a page in browser or use graphical applications and even using volume mixer, he faced with noise and in some cases vioce will be cutted off.

Based on my experince, it's not related to our resources, because we have enough resources and also we've checked it on virtual machines by increase CPU ferequancy, memory size, core per socket or etc.

Also we checked PCoIP vaiables on clients and hosts and use different values for FPS, initial image qulaity even we disabled BTL feature, but nothing changed.

This is a summary of my story

Please advise me.

Blank gray screen instead of the login page for connection server

I've got connection server installed on a w2008r2 with domain configured on another machine connection works fine though not able open the Connection server just gets a blank gray screen

with not login page.However when a try to login in  the View client am able to login but gets error View connection server license key is invalid.

I have the Adobe flash 11 installed

I have question is it possible to install Connection server without the vCenter server ?

Upgrading View 4.6 to 5.2 - need to set Refresh OS disk on logoff set to Never - What is the error?

Can anyone please advise me as to what the exact error will be when a OS disk attempts to refresh on logoff during a View Upgrade. Does anyone have a screen shot? Is it simply a "failed operation" or will it present something more critical?

 

If any desktop pools are set to refresh the OS disk on logoff, edit the Desktop/Pools settings for that pool and set Refresh OS disk on logoff to Never. This setting prevents an errorfrom occurring when the newly upgraded View Composer attempts to refresh a desktop that has not yet been upgraded to View Agent 5.2


This has been a requirement in View upgrades for a while. I have had the question asked of me and I simply could not provide the answer. What is the exact error message that you get and what are the repercussions of an OS attempting a refresh on log off during an upgrade.

I have to say I am terribly disappointed as to how View 5.2 has been released.  Nothing seems to be available for useful documentation and/or tutorials on what is available.  It seems as though half of the bits have been thrown up on the site for public consumption and the documentation that is available leads to no where

To support hardware-based 3D rendering, a pool must meet these additional requirements:

Where does one obtain said VIB for NVIDIA Quadro support?  After I install the VIB will 3d hardware magically work?  How does one know that a view session is actually using hardware vs software rendering.  Besides obviously testing an app and seeing improved performence is there a backend command or esxtop value that shows GPU usage?

Vmware View 5.1 & Dell MD3000i

Hi all,

Just curious if anyone here used DELL MD3000i in their environment for their View and has upgraded to the latest 5.1?

If you don't mind, please share your experience either good or bad.

I understand that the MD3000i is no longer a supported hardware but so far I haven't had any issues with View 5.0 or ESXi 5 (latest build) so I'm planning on keep on using it until next year when we have some extra funds to upgrade. Fingers crossed!
