Can't logon to Horizon View Desktop with Persistent Disk User Profile

I setup a new desktop pool in Horizon 6. This will be used for supervisor level staff that need their same desktops each time they login. The pool is set for linked-clones, but with persistent disks for user profiles. I set the user profile to be stored on a persistent disk in the Horizon wizard. The persistent drive is set to be the users "Z" drive.

When I try to login with one of the entitled, accounts, windows gives me this error:

The user profile service service failed the logon. User Profile cannot be loaded.

Is there something I need to change in Active Directory / Group policy? I've never dealt with persistent disk systems before. The VM OS is Windows 7 Pro x64.

It just seems like the profile doesn't know that it's supposed to be created on the peristent drive when I try to login.

"Preparing Windows" takes a long time...

Hello, under Windows 10 1909 it takes a long time to log in to our VDI environment (Horizon 7.8 with DEM 9.9) on all types of machines (persistent but also instant clone). It is striking that the user login remains at the point "Windows is being prepared" for a particularly long time. (Depending on the user, up to 60 seconds) However, if the same DEM user then logs on to a Windows 2019 server machine with DEM, the registration also goes very quickly under "Preparing Windows". Can someone tell me what the reason may be or which logs I have to evaluate in order to learn the things that are created in the "Preparing Windows" profile,?

I would be grateful if someone could explain these performance problems between Windows Server 2019 and Windows 10 as a VDI environment to me !? Thanks for that!

Our environment:
VMWare ESX 6.5 SP2, VMWare Horizon 7.8, DEM 9.9, PCoiP, Windows 10 1909 as guest machines

VMware Horizon View - CMID of Instant Clones not changing

$

Hello!

We are testing out Instant Clones with Windows 10.  We had trouble with App Volumes in this particular environment, so we abandoned that for this deployment.  We have very few Windows 10 machines in our environment, so when the gold image tries to activate it cannot because there are < 25 machines.  I tried turning up 30 Instant Clones but the CMIDs were all the same, so none of them activated.  I tried doing slmgr / rearm on the gold image, shutting it down, taking a snapshot, and then starting 30 machines, but they all had the same CMID.

When should the CMID get changed when using Instant Clones?

Thanks for any help!

Horizon View 6.0.1 - ADAM data error

Hello guys i am having this problem in my production environment.

I cannot create or edit any desktop pool. When i try to perform this operations the message "ADAM data error" is displayed. Searching more this is what appears in the logs:

ADAM Error code: 2 103 com.vmware.vdi.admin.ui.DesktopBean.saveDesktop(SourceFile:2396)

com.vmware.vdi.adamwrapper.exceptions.ADAMServerException: [LDAP: error code 16 - 00000057: LdapErr: DSID-0C090B3D, comment: Error in attribute conversion operation, data 0, v1db1

I did these workarounds:

  • Restart vCenter Server and View Connection Servers.
  • Force replication between ADAM databases and the replication is okay.
  • Verify with vdmadmin the LDAP collisions, nothing appeared.
  • Check the integrity of the ADAM database and all the attributes are there.
  • Check connection with View Composer and vCenter and it is okay.

Also this problem appeared when i upgrade from Horizon View 5.2 to Horizon view 6.0.1

Any help would be graceful.

Thanks you in advance!

The zero client may not be compatible with the host session cipher

I am having a time with this issue. I upgraded my client to ESXi 6.5.3 and Horizon View 7.9. I have existing Wyse P20 PCoIP terminals. I have upgraded them to the latest firmware I can get (4.7.3). I have added TLS 1.0 to the View Server and the workstation golden image. I am also running the 7.9 View Agent. I wasn't able to connect at all prior to the addition of TLS 1.0 but now I am getting "The zero client may not be compatible with the host session negotiation cipher settings". I feel like I am missing a setting somewhere. Can someone point me in the right direction with what needs to be changed. A list would be great and very much appreciated. I tried to contact VMWare without much success. I am very disappointed with their support or lack there of.

All,

I need help.  I have been banging my head on this one for a while.  I created a user which I believe should be able to log into the the View Portal, but every time I enter the proper credentials I receive this message: "You are not entitled to use the system".  What?  Why?  Can anyone provide some insight into what is going on and what I need to do to correct this?  Thanks in advance.

No sound in my VMWare View Desktop

Hi all,

I saw other threads that listed people with similar problems but neither those threads or Google seemed to have a good fix for my issue.  I have View version 5.2 with server 2012 running as the desktop and I have no sound.  The sound works just fine on the physical machine and in the properties I have the Teradici driver and when you do a test the green bar moves up and down as well as in the mixer.  But there is no sound coming through my headphones.  Does anyone have any idea on what I should look for next?

Thanks,

Brandon

Windows 10 num/caps lock lights not working

$

I am working with VMware View Horizon 7 and Windows 10. During the process of me setting up the computers in vSphere, they are losing their Num/Caps Lock lights on the keyboard. I believe this is a setting in Windows or an update causing the issue. I just have not been able to determine which one. I was hoping that maybe someone else has ran into this and has thoughts or possible solutions for me. I have spent quite a bit of time on it already and getting close to calling MS.

For optimizations I ran the vmware optimization tool but did not choose everything.

Warning on upgrading to Vsphere 6.7 u3 if you run Horizon!

We have been fighting morning logons and Instant Clone provisioning failures all week due to VSphere BUGS!      If  you upgrade, make sure you go with 6.7.03.     The updated release notes for Vshpere as of 4 days ago, finally admitted the problem but hid it in the Miscellaneous section.    The meat and potatoes of the message is this:

Miscellaneous Issues

  • In an environment with a heavy workload, the VMware Security Token Service (vmware-stsd) might stop responding and cause login failuresThe vmware-stsd service has a fixed amount of allocated memory in the setenv.sh file but the memory size might be insufficient in an environment with a heavy workload. As a result, the vmware-stsd service might stop responding and cause login failures. This issue is resolved in this release. The fix dynamically sets the memory allocation for the vmware-stsd service at the start time, based on the size of the deployment.

Guest OS Issues

  • The application to generate computer names and IP addresses in a guest OS customization process might not work properlyWhen you implement an application to generate computer names and IP addresses in a guest OS customization process, the operation might fail with an error: Operation timed out. This issue is resolved in this release.

I hope your week was better than mine!

Horizon View 6 - Persona Management - Folder Redirection and Roaming & Synchronization

I'm having a quirky issue with the PMView.  This is what I see:

- Log as test user with Horizon View client (1st time)

- View Desktop loads Windows, and shows desktop (30-45 seconds)

(During this step, I see the profile and redirected folders are created correctly)

- Log off test user

- Log back in with the same test user (2nd time)

- View Desktop loads Windows, shows the "Welcome" screen, and then a black screen.

(During this step, I see the profile repository get "recreated" (i.e., the folders/files get deleted, and then recreated...))

- After 1-2 minutes later, the desktop shows up

This seems like an odd behavior to me, and it's probably related to how I've created my PMview.

This is what I have:

CDR not reliable

Hello,

I am wondering if this a common issue and who can help.

Every second or third time a user connects to his VDI desktop, client drive redirection to his local computer's user profile is not mapped. When is logs off and back on OR just clicks the "X" and reconnects the running session, the drive is like mapped. Network connection between client, connection server and VDI desktop is good. Could not find anything related in the logs.

Running Horizon 7.8 with Windows 10 1809 pool using Horizon Agent 7.10 (Same on Agent 7.8)

Clients using Horizon Client version 5.2 or 5.3

As the issue occurs, also \\tsclient\<Username> is not reachable so it is not just the drive mapped to "My Computer".

Who's got a clue that the issue is?

DirectX not working with Software 3D

Hi,

We have a strange issue with a desktop pool that is setup with software 3D rendering. We are using an application that needs DirectX to do some 3D modelling. When I start the application on the master image, using the VMWare Remote Console, 3D modelling works. When I start the desktop from the desktop pool, using Horizon View Client 5.3 (blast) 3D Modelling doesn't work.

VM Setup of the master image:

Settings of the desktop pool:

Which results in the following VM configuration of the VDI:

So at first sight, this all looks correct. But 3D Modelling isn't working in the VDI, only on the master image. When I disable 3D on the desktop pool, it works in the VDI, but awfully slow. We need to use Software 3D because we don't have supported graphic cards in our hosts (only a couple of desktops need 3D).

Another strange thing I noticed was the Direct diagnostics information differs between the master image and the VDI:

Master image (3D disabled, VMWare remote console)
VDI (Soft 3D enabled, blast protocol)

If 3D is enabled it seems to fallback to lower DirectX levels, where I would have expected to be the other way around?

ESXi hosts are 6.7, vCenter is 6.7, Horizon client is 5.3.0, Horizon View is 7.9.0, vmware tools 11.0.5 installed on master (same issue with 11.0.1)

Anyone has any experience with DirectX and 3D in Horizon?

Thanks,

Michiel.

VMware for Chrome OS - managed Via the Chrome Management Console

Hi there,

We are currently running VMWare Horizon View on Chrome Books - currently we are experiencing an issue where by when our users log off it does not disconnect on the client back to the log on screen. We are trying to get this to do this automatically but have been unable to find this centrally managed. Has anyone done this before or found a way similar to solve this?

Seen you can make changes via JSON coding wondered if there is a way doing it this way.

View 7.8 Client Disconnect message

Any way to configure the full client disconnect message?   Sounds foreboding to users the way it is written:  "Are you sure you want to disconnect from this desktop.  You may lose your work, the desktop will be shutdown in 1440 minutes."   Yes, that is our standard force idle disconnect time but we're talking just a disconnect.   The older, simpler message of only asking if a user wants to disconnect is better.

I can't find anything in Default Configurations, GPOs to configure that message.   Thanks.
