Hello
I am looking for some advice on which edition of Windows 10 to use for our upgrade. I have a test pool up and running but I want to make sure I am on the right track.
We are using Horizon view linked clone pools that are persistent but will probably convert them over to floating pools in the future. We will update the image on a monthly basis ourselves.
And the VM’s refresh every 7 days.
Current test pool within a Horizon View 7.5 environment.
Using Windows 10 Pro 64
Version: 10.0.16299 Build 16299
4 Gig of Ram
40 Gig Hard drive
2 processor 2 core
I have run a power shell script that got rid of some of the Apps; it appears that I can’t get rid of the “Microsoft” apps, Microsoft News, Microsoft weather, whiteboard… (These are all new apps) that are not on the Golden image. How can I get rid of them and any new suggestions that pop up and confuse my end users?
I want to keep the vm as clean as possible, Log in / (Lock and unlock) time is critical for my end users since they work in a fast paced clinical environment.
Thank-you

Hello Community,
We are trying to deploy our new Windows 10 Desktop Pools in our Horizon View 7.7 Environment. We were are creating a new Golden Image from scratch and were optimizing with the VMware OS Optimization Tool. In the first place we using the ordinary Windows 10 Template, but we get an issue with our netapp based share which is hosting our roaming user profiles. After a second reboot of the golden image we can´t access the share anymore or extremely slowly (writing files takes more than 10 minutes).
Then we tried to create a personal template where we were deleting all things which we thought that could be the cause of not accessing the netapp share, but everything we were applying the corrections from OSOT we get the same problem.
We inactivated nearly everything with network or location, we removed all "Stop\disable service". The only things we let in our template where graphic performance (User and Machine), Secheduled Tasks, and some GPO settings.
Does any one have a clue which setting can avoid accessing a netapp share while the original windows shares from MS servers are reachable with delay.
Our storage guy told us that the netapp config supports all SMB types and can deal with signed secure channel and more. We think that´s correct because the windows 10 is working allright with this share before we apply the OSOT corrections.
When connecting with Horizon Client for Linux (I tried 4.6.0 and later) to a Windows desktop, neither Ctrl-Alt-Del key combination nor the menu option "Send Ctrl-Alt-Del" have any effect. When the remote desktop locks, I have to disconnect and reconnect to unlock it. Why is it not working? Is there a setting I can change client-side? I tried:
view.sendCtrlAltDelToVM="TRUE"
in ~/.vmware/config
, but there's no effect, either.
Is anyone aware of a way to create a report, detailing the session count/desktops available of VM pools, on a set time window (say report out ever 3 hours as an example)? We have Log Insight. We have agents deployed to all of our linked clones, agents deployed to our brokers/templates. We also have VROps (although in a bit of a propped up state only, not fully configured yet). It seems that among one of these I should be able to do it. I also flirted with the idea of using the Horizon Toolbox, but, not sure that has e-mail/reporting capabilities.
If it's there in VROps staring me in the face and I just don't see it, please let me know.
Looking for an e-mail to pop out every 3 hours and just say pool 1 = x sessions, y VMs available. pool 2, pool 3, etc. etc
A predecessor of mine had a similar report going on through PowerCLI, but, it's a bit outdated and messy. Just wanted to see what others may be doing for a fresh start.
Thanks.
Does anyone happen to know the IP range that should be allowed to allow VMware Horizon Client traffic through a company Firewall? We watched the traffic and the IP address constantly changes from 216.99.89.8, 216.99.89.10, 216.99.89.61 so obviously I need the IP range to allow on our Firewall. Please advise.
Thank you
Calvin
When a users log into the new virtual desktops (linked clone pool) and click the Start button, not all of the programs are listed in the Start menu. Applications are installed directly on the parent vm.
Horizon view 7.5
UEM7.4
Windows 10 1709
Any help is much appreciated.
Hi, (first timer so please be gentle)
We have just deployed a small number of Vm's, which where built from the same template. When we try to deploy our WSUS updates, only one Vm appears and only for a few seconds at a time then randomly changing to another Vm. Which is not allowing us to push the updates out.
I understand that the problem it pointing at the template build but is there anything else that we might of missed?
Cheers
We have an existing Horizon deployment (3 years old) in a stand alone domain "ADB.local". Recently, we created a 2-way foreign trust to another domain "XYZ.com". Now the XYZ is showing up in my admin console as error'd (expected, because we have not established routing to the foreign doman) and the users are seeing an option to select XYZ as their credential domain.
Is there any way to remove XYZ from any reference to Horizon at all? We will never allow XYZ user to use resources on the ABC Horizon system and I would prefer not to force users to change their logon method after 3-years to deal with an unwanted connection.
Thanks,
Bob
Desktop Pools (Instant Clones) are working Ok (users are signed in). But on the Admin Console, the Users & Sessions are Blank.
Everything else looks good. Not sure where to start...
We have a small View environment with around 80 linked clone vms. We are looking to expand to our DR facility as well. The plan is to have enough compute and storage at each location to provide enough in case either site fails. But we don't want DR just sitting. I created a Pod for DR and did a round robin DNS record (since we are only do local connections) to hit either a connection server at main or dr (4 in total 2 at each site) Everything is working fine, but since the connection server that a user will connect to is random (and we want it that way), if we need to do any management with that user, we have to log into a connection that the user is logged into and since we have two pods, we have to log into both to find the user. Is there anyway to log into one and see all logged in users? If we log into a connection server, we can only see the users that are connected to that pod.
Hello,
We're targeting tomorrow morning to begin a vCenter upgrade from 6.0 to 6.5u2, which we've decided the first step of this would be to migrate our vCenter Server from Windows 6.0 to 6.5u2 appliance. This will require us (according to the compatibility matrix) to upgrade our Horizon View from 7.0.3 to 7.1. While I've read -and am currently reading- reams of information, I figured while I am going through the details to add to the project plan, I'd ask for an "upgrade order" guideline because it's been kinda maddening hopping from one caveat/link to another document as VMware intricately weaves a labyrinthine tale of exceptions, musts, nevers and other harrowing steps that are potentially catastrophic.
So, what is best practice to perform this stage of the upgrade? Primarily, we are upgrading our vCenter ESXi environment from 6.0 to 6.5u2. We are migrating from vCenter Server 6.0 Windows to 6.5u2 Appliance. As part of that, to keep seamless operations, we are also upgrading our View environment from 7.0.3 to 7.1, the least minimum revision that is compatible with 6.5u2.
So, specifically:
Should it be broken into stages over a few days?
Should both be done simultaneously?
Do they trade upgrade steps, such as performing step 1, 2 & 3 on vCenter, then 1, 2 & 3 on View, then go back to vCenter and perform 4, 5 & 6...you get the drift.
Or, if linear, which upgrade should we perform entirely first? Is that recommended or possible?
I also plan to continue searching, but a general guideline would be a tremendous help for the purposes of the project plan. I'll backfill the details if any steps are offered.
Thank you very much, I appreciate the help!
I am running into this weird issue with blinking cursor rate. This is Windows 7 VMs.
I set the following on the gold image.
We set blinking cursor rate (Control Panel > Keyboard) down to third line from the left. Save the setting.
Also updated following registry key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop]
"CursorBlinkRate"="0xffffffff"
"DisableCursorBlink"=dword:00000001
The setting works in gold image but once recomposed VMs does not. Blinking cursor rate is always set to FAST even if you update it on the VM.
Anybody out there ran into this issue...
While I'm well aware of the GPO for CommandstoRunonConnect and CommandstoRunonReconnect, is there any tricks to allow a script (or commands) on disconnect or even roaming?
I ask as there's an application that I would like to close in the event that a user disconnects or roams to another machine due to the location awareness of that application.
Thanks!
I tried recompose this Template but it failed and got the error below.
View Composer agent initialization state error (9): Failed to relocate disposable (waited 0 seconds)
I also did something based on the solution below but it still did not work. The template is up to date. It had been recomposed successfully before. I have recomposed for many times and have researched the solution lately but no luck.
Please provide some hint how to solve it.
Thanks,
Long
We are in a Dev testing environment with 7.5 and receive this error when attempting to login to a new pool:
We installed UEM but didn't fully configure it. We've pretty much narrowed down the issue to something in AD. The master image is cleaned up and we know that isn't the issue because we are receiving the same error on a pool that we created before we installed UEM. Any ideas as to exactly how to fix this? We have seen several recommendations but none so far have worked. Any help would be appreciated. We are about to contact a TAM, but just wanted to see if anyone in the community might have been in this situation and worked through it?
Many thanks!
JJ
SSO is not working
Connection servers are enrolled to enrollment server
External access through external access using workspace one is working
Saml is working correctly and both Connection servers are configured using SAAS Url for iDP
CA installed and certs are all valid
Connection Servers are showing invalid cert, but show valid in browser and are brokering connections
VMware Verify is working externally as well
Any ideas?
Ryan
Does Persona Management standalone work with persona folder redirection? We have it working with our persistant and non-persistant VMs with the view agent. Horizon 7.4 across everything.
hi,I have some problems concerning the end-user's desk for example I can not find the same icons of the basic image for the different users (there are always icons, network drives that are missing, or the taskbar is not the same) and sometimes when I start a session I end up with a black screen for one or two minutes and just after using the taskbar is impossible and I would like have more information on spare machines when creating spare machines.
