Browser corruption and firefox xpcom error

$

Having a issue with my desktops in Horizon View.  After 2-3 days of running, users will report that both chrome and firefox no longer work.  Chrome will just not launch and firefox will get a "can't load XPCOM" error.  If I recompose the desktop it works again for another 2-3 days.  The XPCOM error affects every user that logs in to that desktop, the Chrome issue appears to be user specific.  We are using UEM and App Volumes.  Horizon View version is 7.6, issue happening on Windows 10 1607 and 1709.  Hoping someone else has came across this issue and help point us in the right direction.  Thanks

VMware Horizon View 7.4 with Windows 10 LTSB 1607 - Black screen after deployment

We have Horizon View 7.4 on a vSphere 6.5 environment and Windows 10 VDI.
Windows 10 is deployed through MDT, works fine, even when composing a VDI, first start / logon works fine, after a reboot no screen anymore, via vSphere Console black screen with mouse pointer. VMware tools is running, i can do a graceful shutdown / reboot. Also remote registry works, eventviewer, file explorer, services etc etc etc. but no screen. also no screen as an administrator local / rdp does not matter.

It is always after the first "run" of Windows 10, after a reboot it does not work anymore..

Any thoughts?

View Horizon 7 Persona - Desktop Backgroups jpg's not syncing to local profile - Black Screen

Hi, we currently run a View 5.1.3 environment with Windows 7 floating non-persistent desktops and manage profiles using View Persona. We are moving to a new View Horizon 7 environment and have migrated the existing gold master Windows 7 image.

The only changes that have been made to the gold master in the new View 7 environment are the upgrading of VMware tools View Agent to 7.0.1.3989057.

Now when I log onto the new desktop floating pool on Horizon 7, Horizon persona isn't synchronising the desktop background from the persona repository (existing IBM CIFS share) to the local profile and hence the desktop is displayed as a black background.

If I try set the background to a jpeg file e.g. Windows harmony, I can see the file TranscodedWallpaper.jpg being saved to  \\persona\share\username.V2\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes and it displays on the current floating desktop correctly.

However at the next logon to a floating desktop this file isn't saved back to the local profile i.e. %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes and hence the background is black.

If I log onto the gold master image directly via VMware as a user, the desktop background shows correctly, so it looks to be a persona issue.

The following are snippets from the VMWVvp.txt log relating to TranscodedWallpaper.jpg - the errors I can see are 0x80070002

Has anyone experienced this issue and know how to get around it?

Set up server address as default via terminal (macOS) - Possible?

Hey all,

I'm looking for a solution to add automatically the server address in VMWare Horizon after installation.

I would like to create a new package, which is copying VMWare to the Applications folder and running a script, which already adds the server connection.

I already checked the plists in the preferences folders, but there are no changes in the application, not even if I delete them.

So, is that possible?

I'm running the latest macOS and latest VMWare version.

Thanks a lot!

Publishing Image From Replica Connection Server Fails

Just built this Horizon 7 Enterprise JMP environment and noticed this issue with the Replica server.    I can publish images to Instant Clone pools all day long with the "Primary" connection server but pushes from the Replica always fail.  Everything else on this Replica server seems to be working perfectly.   I can access VMs from it, see everything from the View Admin console, permissions and  everything else seem to have been pulled in correctly from the "Primary" on installation but Just can't publish.   Anyone have any ideas of where I might have gone wrong with my setup?   Or even which logs I can check to help identify the failing push?

Thanks

View Agent Direct-Connection Plug-In for RDP?

$

Since a requirement of using this plug in on a physical machine is to have a Teradici host card, I assume that this is a PCoIP only access method.

I don't have a host card, and I wanted to try with RDP, but connecting presents a black screen and doesn't lock the physical device.

Can it be used with RDP?

Thanks.

PCoIP Roadmap\Lifecycle

Hi all,

What's the general view on the longevity of PCoIP as a display protocol?

I'm about to (reluctantly) refresh my trusty Wyse P20's and am looking at tera2 devices, but I hear whispers that, with the introduction of Blast, there may not be not much life left in PCoIP.  The vendor I was talking to quoted 2021 as a potential date for end of support.  Now, coming from a vendor, i'm suspicious of this but I don't want to go out and buy a load of PCoIP tera2 devices if VMware are going to push Blast and we run into issues with a load of unsupported devices.   I will start looking for devices that support both protocols if possible, but I was just trying to get a general opinion about PCoIP vs Blast - and whether other people are going to be ditching PCoIP clients in favor of Blast devices.

Cheers in advance..........

Persona folder sometimes loses full control rights for the user

Hi,

We have +150 persona users currently and every other day a random user loses its 'full control' rights on its folder. Causing quite some errors as they only receive a 'read only' right on their AppData folder.

We monitor this by checking the ACL of each folder every X minutes and manually adding the user if something is wrong but this only works reactively sadly.

As the persona logs are huge I'm currently at a loss to which line I should be looking at.

  • Other users are not impacted, only the random user.
  • This seems to happen at login but aren't able to replicate at the moment.
  • Horizon 7.5.1

Is it possible to group icons in Horizon View Client into folders?

My apologies ahead of time, but I come from a Citrix background.  I hadn't worked with View since it's early days.  I recently stood up a Horizon View 6 lab and am extremely impressed with it's functionality and Administration.  View has come along way and VMware has done a great job with this release!!

Couple of questions though . . .

  • Is it possible to group icons in Horizon View Client into folders (as can be done with Citrix Web Interface)?
    • Such as Win7 Desktops, MS Office, Utilities, etc
  • I didn't see any way to enable HTML Access to an Application Pool, is that possible?

Thanks in Advance!

VDI user is assigned a desktop logged in by another user

Hi there,

In the last year we've experienced some strange behaviour on our VDI system:

A user requests a desktop and is assigned a desktop which is allready logged in by another user

At first we thought this was a glitch... false report (user aren't allway clear about things), we could not believe it to be possible. But lately we're getting more reports on this same issue. Did anyone else experience the same behaviour?

BTW

Please excuse me for not giving any techical detail.... versions and such... I'm not the VDI administrator at our site. Just a concerned person who is wondering how the hell this is possible.

regards

Peter

VMware View Webcam Support

$

Hello,

I have some questions about webcam support in VMware View 5.1.  Ideally, I'd like to get a Logitech Pro 9000 physically connected to a laptop with the VMware View client installed working inside a Windows 7 x64 View desktop so that I can use it with Microsoft Lync 2010.

There seems to be some conflicting information about webcam support.

http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003777 states quite clearly that webcams are not supported in any version of VMware View.

Seemingly to the contrary, I found this whitepaper (see link below) from September 2011 entitled "Validating Adobe Connect Client on VMware® View Desktops." The whitepaper discusses validating webcams for use with with Adobe Connect - the webcams being plugged into thin and zero clients connecting to VMware View 4.6 desktops.  There is even a section titled "End User Experience Matrix for Webcam Video."  The Logitech Pro 9000 is one of the cameras that was validated.

http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/vmw-validating-adobe-connect-client-vmware-view-desktops.pdf

This has left me somewhat confused about webcam support for VMware View and regardless of the official support stance, I am wondering if anyone knows any tips or tricks to get a Logitech Pro 9000 attached to a laptop with the VMware View client installed working inside a Windows 7 x64 View desktop.

Presently, the camera is recognized inside the View desktop but doesn't work.  I have the Logitech webcam software (version 2.5.1) installed on both the endpoint (which is also Windows 7 x64) and in the View desktop.  If I try to use quick capture for photo or video in the Logitech webcam software inside the View desktop, I just see a black screen.  Inside Microsoft Lync (also running in the View desktop), the camera is also recognized but displays an empty gray box in the video configuration area of Lync along with a message that says "Cannot connect to this webcam.  Close any active conversations or other programs that are using your webcam, and then try again."

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to get this camera working with my particular setup and does anyone have an explanation for the seemingly contradictory information I've found regarding webcam support with VMware View?

Use BSG only for HTML5 connections

hello community,

it's possible to use the BSG only for HTML5 connection and let Horizon Clients connect directly to the VMs? I want to get rid of certificate warning without having to mess with the client certificates and without forcing all traffic to go trough the BSG for performance reasons.

Cheers

VMware tools, View agents, nVidia drivers - install order?

$

0

This is our current environment

  • ESXi 6.7 Update 1 running on HPE DL380s Gen10 servers
  • VMWare View 7.6.0
  • VMWare Tools 10.2.5
  • nVidia 7.0 - this includes the vib install on the ESXi hosts as well as the nVidia driver install under Windows
  • Window 10 version 1709

I know when building a new master image, the order of install is:

  1. VMware Tools
  2. VMware View agents
  3. nVidia drivers
I now want to upgrade to VMWare tools to 10.3.5 which was just released. Which method do I use?

Method 1
Upgrade master image VMWare tools, new snapshot, recompose desktops
Method 2

  • Uninstall nVidia drivers, reboot master image
  • Uninstall VMWare view agents, reboot
  • Upgrade VMWare tools, reboot
  • Install VMWare View agents, reboot
  • Install nVidia drivers, reboots
  • Set licensing server, new snapshot, recompose desktops

Windows 10 Display Scaling on MAC

Have the latest OS on a MAC and connecting to our view environment and can't get the display set to 100%.  Best we can get it to is 300% and our EHR program requires it to be no more than 100%.  Been digging all day for the answer but keep coming up empty.  In the View client when i click the VM icon all i get for options is setting.  I get nothing that says display scaling like I do on a Windows Client.  Anyone have an idea how to get this resolution to 100%.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

Horizon client branding

I have found that on Windows you can brand the Horizon client by replacing viewbanner.bmp with a custom image.

Is it possible to do something similar on a Linux client? I haven't been able to find viewbanner.bmp or anything comparable.

Thanks,
