The problem with the indicators on the keyboard (CapsLock, NumLock)

$

Hello! We use VMware Horizon 6.2.1, the client OS (Windows 10 1607 LTSB) is deployed using a template (it has the View Agent 7.0.2 installed). On these machines there is a problem with the indicators (Caps Lock, Num Lock) on the keyboard - they stop lighting when a person connects to their system through the VMware Horizon Client (PCoIP), in RDP, there is no problem.

At https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2149393 there is information that our Horizon Agent 7.0.2 supports Windows 10 LTSB 1607, but with an additional inscription - Fresh Install Only. If I create a new template with Windows 10 1607 and installed Horizon Agent 7.5 - everything works.

Is it possible to somehow fix the operation of the indicators on the keyboard (Caps Lock, Num Lock) on already deployed machines? (Updating the Horizon Agent from 7.0.2 to 7.5 does not solve the problem).

PCoIP Gateway port 4172 certificate/protocol issues

Just got my quarterly security scans back, and while I thought I had my Security Server configured correctly, apparently I still have issues with the PCoIP port/cert.

The scans show the PCoIP gateway on 4172 responding to SSLv3 and not providing a valid cert. I've double and triple checked the registry settings and locked.properties files to be sure I'm not serving SSLv3 and presenting a valid cert, and all those settings look correct.Checking ports 443 or 8443 shows that the protocols/cert are working properly, but the same scan on 4172 shows it responding to SSLV3 and issuing a self-signed (default) PCoIP cert.

Here's what my locked.properties file looks like in C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\Server\sslgateway\conf:

secureProtocols.1=TLSv1.2

secureProtocols.2=TLSv1.1

secureProtocols.3=TLSv1

preferredSecureProtocol=TLSv1.2

enabledCipherSuite.1=TLS_ECDHE_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA

enabledCipherSuite.2=TLS_DHE_DSS_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA

enabledCipherSuite.3=TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_128_CBC_SHA

enabledCipherSuite.4=TLS_RSA_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA

enabledCipherSuite.5=TLS_DHE_DSS_WITH_AES_256_CBC_SHA

enabledCipherSuite.6=SSL_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_MD5

enabledCipherSuite.7=SSL_RSA_WITH_RC4_128_SHA

enabledCipherSuite.8=SSL_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA

enabledCipherSuite.9=SSL_DHE_DSS_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA

And here are the registry settings that the PCoIP gateway should be using for the cert (The SSLCertPSGNI key is properly set to the public fqdn of the Security Server):

The friendly name on the cert in the Windows cert store is vdm, and there is a private key associated with the cert. As I mentioned, it's only failing on 4172 - 443 and 8443 are working as expected. Any clue where to start looking for why the PCoIP gateway isn't respecting these settings on 4172?

Thanks,

Geoff

Horizon 7.6 upgrade, cannot recompose, delete VMs, etc.

Hello:

We just upgraded one of our environments from Horizon 7.4 to 7.6.  The composer and connection server upgrades went as planned and everything is green in the Horizon admin console, and clients can connect, etc.  Next we re-installed the Horizon Agent on our golden master VMs and tried to recompose the pools.  Everything is just sitting there and nothing is happening, the VMs don't go in to maintenance mode, nothing.  So I tried deleting a VM from the pool to see if it would re-create it using the new golden master VM snapshop we have selected for the recompose, again nothing, it's just sitting in "Deleting" status.

This just started after we did the upgrade, everything was working up to that point.  What could be going on here??  Our environment is pretty simple so I'm surprised to see these kind of issues.  I read the upgrade documentation for 7.6 and did not see anything that would pertain to this.

Also, I noticed that when I try to edit a pool to look at its settings, a popup comes up that says "Unknown" and there is no information given (see below).

Has anybody else been seeing these issues and know what's going on???

Thanks much.

UAG 2.9 takes 300 seconds timeout before shows login-page via IE

Hello,

After updated Horizon 7.03 to 7.1 and Access point from 2.8 to 2.9 I have a problem with outside HTML-ACCESS connection.

When I try to connect using a VIP External IP (F5) it takes exactly 300 seconds timeout before the login page appears (welcome page - 300 seconds - login page)

Direct connection via AP works fine.

But, I have the timeout if only I use IE.Everything forks fine only via Safari.

I would appreciate if someone can help to understand why the timeout exist and where can I decrease it?

AppVol 2.14 & OST

Has anyone go the new support for OST redirection working with AppVol 2.14? If so, do you see where the Index has been redirected to?

The script for v. 2.13 would also redirect the Windows Search cache but it is supposed to be done automatically now in v2.14. We have uses who complain about folders in Outlook constantly updating and search indexes empty.

Windows 10 1709 sysprep not working for customization step

Hello:

We are on Horizon 7.6, and starting to test Windows 10 1709.  It appears that at the "Customization" step, the VM is just sitting at the logon screen and nothing is happening.

The sysprep log is showing:

After doing some searching there are a lot of discussions on this problem with 1709 and even Msft says the fix is: "unplug the Internet connection or disable Automatic Updates in Audit mode before you create the image.".  This is not an option for us.  I am hoping that others have come across this and found a way to work around this problem with the VMware customization specification.  I'll follow up if we find a way around it here and post the solution.

Thanks in advance.

Help Desk (7.4) & Local Administrator Permissions

I've noticed that when I attempt to use the new Help Desk baked into Horizon 7.4 that if I'm connecting to a user who's a Windows Standard User then I can't perform administrative tasks on the user's machine. This is very problematic. Is there a way to fix this? Something I'm missing?

When I request control the user has the ability to check a box that allows me to see UAC messages but they have to be an administrator in order to do that which kind of useless, unless VMware is advocating that I make all my end users admins (lol).

Any suggestions or thoughts?

Scanning not working via USB AIO Printer. Horizon View 7.4.0 - HP Printer - Dell Wyse 3040

Hello,

So we have been experiencing this issue with remote users connecting to vdi
using the Dell 3040's clients. When they try to scan the scanning process goes
up to 90% and then it errors out. Sometimes it works just fine, sometimes it
scans one page and it errors out on the second page. We have enabled USB and
Scanner re-direction, installed the latest printer drivers and latest firmware
on the thin client. Also the users has to connect, disconnect and connect again
in order for the usb devices to be recognized. Has anyone seen this happen and
what was the resolution?

Tested the printer using the Horizon Client from a laptop and we experienced
the same issue when scanning, this kind of rules out the Thin Client.

Also thios is a remote user connecting over VPN.

This is a persistent desktop

Win 10 Linked Clones slow login

Anyone else experiencing this? The login time is about 45-60 seconds each time. Also i can't seem to remove the built in apps like xbox and stuff. I ran the PS scripts and it removed them from the master image but when it composes and user logs in, they are right back on there. Even tried with GPO settings.

Anyone have a good starting point?

Thanks!

Chrome OS Horizon View 4.9 client broken

Even after following the steps to register the extension Register the VMware Horizon Client for Chrome Extension  , the View client 4.9 will not connect to the 7.4 connection server. Why has vmware released such a buggy chrome os view client? How can we debug this? The chrome store is full of similar complaints VMware Horizon Client for Chrome - Chrome Web Store  click on the support tab. Attached is the screenshot of the error I receive.

It is interesting to note that in the System Requirements page the Display protocol might suggest that PCOIP isnt supported? Nobody really uses Blast do they?

How to debug very high CPU usage during BLAST [Extreme] session?

$

Hi all,

I have abnormally high CPU usage for what I assume is the process responsible for H.264 screen encoding -- `VMBlastW.exe`. I am connected on a LAN with the Horizon Client. I have to admit that we have several VMs beside the one I am having trouble with, and I recall we've had a number of well behaving installations where the protocol process on a VM did not account for more than 5% CPU usage in similar scenarios. So this is an anomaly, but I am not sure where to approach it. The scenario is Windows Media Player playing a [720p] movie (Big Buck Bunny 720p, AVI) which occupies 1/3 of the screen area. The Windows Media Player itself does not use more than 20% of the virtual CPU, so I don't think that the codec etc really matter here. What seems to matter is the amount of screen area being updated, affecting the H.264 encoding of the screen framebuffer.

The VM is set up with a vGPU that is backed by Nvidia GRID K1 card, profile K120Q (the bottom baseline). The CPU profile of the VM is a 2-socket setup, each CPU with 1 core. 4GB of RAM. Anyway, I think that 20% CPU for movie decoding sort of gives away the approximate computing power of the VM, give or take. That the aforementioned VMBlastW.exe process using never less than 40% of the CPU just for encoding and sending the screen over LAN, to me seems very abnormal, not the less because it is supposed to offload the H.264 encoding to the NVidia vGPU. When playing the movie full screen, Windows Media Player still tops at less than 25% CPU, while the VMBlastW.exe process averages at 80%!

The image and motion quality themselves are very adequate, therefore I judge packet loss can't be that high.

The ESX host running the VM is a Dell PowerEdge R730 rack server with an Intel Xeon E5-2667 v3 3.2Ghz with 256GB RAM. vSphere tells me that only 2,33Ghz out of the "virtual total" of 51,18Ghz on the virtualized host CPU is used. RAM is about half free. I mean, I don't see the host load at all. Yet, the Blast process maxes out the virtual CPU on the VM.

I have logs to show if required, I have confirmed that H.264 is used (as opposed to JPG/PNG which BLAST also can do) and the transport is TCP, not UDP, but I don't think this figures into the problem.

What can I do to get to the bottom of this? Maybe the system falls back on something, but I need to know what and somehow try to control it.

Thanks.

View admin vCenter Server is "red" - how to troubleshoot

$

We did a SAN controller upgrade over the weekend. We had no issues there at all, but after the upgrade was done we saw view admin showing the vCenter Server service as "red". Restarting vCenter Server Service on the server resolved the issue and it went "green" about 5 minutes after the service was restarted. I came in this morning and the "red" status had returned, restarting the service brought it back to "green".

Is there an easy/good/best way to troubleshoot this? View Admin is completely useless for troubleshooting any "red" service issues. I've gone through logs, event viewer, bundles, etc and don't see anything that would tell me why View Admin thinks there is an issue. I can provision VM's, delete them, recompose, etc without issue. as far as I can tell vCenter is fine and it's making me wonder if its View Admin having the issue and not vCenter. What do you guys normally do to troubleshoot "red" statuses?

Windows display scale to vmware display scaling

$

Since upgrading one of our users client version from v3.5 we have noticed an issue when having the Windows Display Scale set to 125% zoom the VM now has a reduced resolution indicative of the resolution of one with said zoom level, so a 1920x1080 host machine screen would provide a ~1600x750 resolution.

This particular user was using 2 screens, one was 1920x1200 the other was 1920x1080, display scaling from VMware was enabled and was proven so by changing the size of a "large window" and seeing the resolution change. the function of 2 screens is a requirement - I have seen the fix for the surface pro was to adjust the RTAV registry keys for srcWCamFrameWidth and height however I cant see a way to set 2 resolutions for 2 screens.

Client version: 4.7, tested with 4.4 also

Agent version 6.0.1

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Philips SpeechMike Audio In Issue (Win10)

Might be more of a Dell/Wyse question, but, wanted to see if anyone on these forums bumped into this.

In our environment we use the Wyse 5010 w/ PCoIP terminal as our standard endpoint. We are a Windows 7 shop on Horizon 7.3.2. We are able to get the SpeechMikes passed into the Horizon session, via splitting the vid/pid at the terminal level. This setup has worked for us for a few years now, no issue.

Recently we began developing a Win 10 image as well using Blast. Using the same terminal endpoint, signing into our Windows 10 image, Blast uses the mic just fine still. However, on PCoIP, no audio in is happening. We see the mi in device manager just fine, and audio OUT from the mic still works, just not audio in. The Philips control center client sees the device, it allows config of the buttons on the mic, all seems well, except audio in.

In a nutshell:

All from an identical endpoint:

Win 7 Blast - Mic fine

Win 7 PCoIP - Mic Fine

Windows 10 Blast - Mic Fine

Windows 10 PCoIP - Mic bad.

I tried installing the teradici audio driver in the base just to see if it made a difference, but, no luck.

I'm opening a ticket with Dell in parallel, but, any feedback here, I'd be happy to get.

Thanks in advance.

Internet use via a virtual app to minimize chance of a virus

We have a need to deploy firefox via a virtual application to desktops that do not have internet access to minimize the chance of viruses on these desktops. When the users launch the virtual application, is it within it's own box? Or can the RDS host potentially get a virus from the internet useage?

Deploying UAG 3.x using powershell with PKCS#12 certificate fails

I was delighted to see that UAG 3.0 now has support for certificates in PKCS#12 format. Unfortunately trying to deploy a UAG with my PFX file fails with "Error: The specified PFX certificate file is invalid". I can convert the PFX to PEM and successfully deploy the UAG. If I try to then replace the cert using the swagger UI it fails with "Alias provided does not exist in the keystore. Provide one from the list".

The PFX contains the private key, device, intermediate and root certificate. I'm specifying an alias which is the friendly name of the device certificate.

UAG and Connection Server Load balancing with NSX

Hello community!

So, i'm trying to understand how can i use NSX load balancing to do both the external load balancing for the UAG and the internal load balancing for the connection servers. I know best practices would be be the In line topology, but what i am wondering is: can i make both load balancers in one EDGE? Or i would need two edges in my topology: one to be the external load balancer balacing the UAGS and another edge to be the internal load balancer to balance the connection servers?

Recomposing VM or pool : Refit operation resync failed

Hi everyone,

I'm having a hard time trying to recompose either an entire pool or a VM in the View Administrator.

The error I'm encountring is : "Provisioning error occurred for Machine xxxxxx : Refit operation resync failed", then the VM stops and i have to power it again via vSphere.

I tried to follow the VMware KB:     Recomposing VMware View pool fails with error: Provisioning error occurred for Machine xxxxxx:Refit opera…, but no luck. My VC_CONFIG_ID is good in my SQL databse, and no change were recently made to my pools.

I've tried to recompose from an old snapshot which used to work : same error.

I've also tried to refresh then recompose, or reboot my View Composer server... same problem.

Please find attached the composer logs for this operation, featuring a FATAL error. I dit not find anything on this error yet...

Thank you in advance for your help.
