Branding default messages in Horizon Client

Hi,

Is it possible to customize the message: "All available desktop sources for this desktop are currently busy. Please try connecting to this desktop again later, or contact your system administrator" (image attached).

Got a customer who would like to add, "Call HelpDesk on blablabla" in the message when the Desktop Pool is full.

Are there any possibilities here?

Thanks,

Kenneth

Why machine name does not match dns name?

Hello,

vSphere 6.7

Horizon View 7.5.0

Windows 10 Pro 1709

I created a pool "Automated Desktop Pool", "Dedicated", "Full Virtual Machines". VM naming pattern: PC-VDI{n:fixed=2}.

All machines now Available, but why machine name does not match dns name? And why number in machine name does not match number in dns name??

Add Memory / vCPU to a linked clone VM

Hi all

Actually I have no access to a (test) view environment, so I ask you

One of my customers asked me, if it is possible to add resources (in this case vRAM) to a runningsingle VM in a linked clone pool. So only one VM needs more resources. Change the master and recompose is actually not an option, because it is only one VM that needs more RAM.

Is that possible?

Image Publish initiated by SchedulePushImage for Pool Failed

Hi,

I am getting this message when trying to publish to an instant clone. Does anyone know where to figure out why this is happening? The image was pushed previously and worked fine. Added a bunch of software, made a clone and tried to push it again.

Image Publish initiated by SchedulePushImage for Pool standard_lab_pool failed for Image [VM=/VDI-Datacenter/vm/Test VMs/goldimage, Snapshot=/Clean Gold Image 2 Base Snap/Fixes_v3, State=PUBLISHING]

Does anyone know what the best practice is for how many clones to keep? My colleague deleted the previous clone before he tried to push this clone.

Thanks!

RTAV in View Client 3.5 drops audio when resolution is set to 640x480

Hi all,

I have a very curious RTAV audio issue. We have a ticket open with VMware but I'm using all available knowledge resources.

Here goes:

My company uses a product called Vidyo for teleconferencing. We also mostly use HP Thin Client T620s running a linux ThinOS with View Client 3.5.0 (latest possible build from HP). We are also using View 6.2.

When we run Vidyo with a webcam or usb headset via RTAV everything works great (audio and video) until we bump up the resolution 640x480 in the RTAV group policy settings. Once this occurs, the audio craps out. View Agent debug logs show lots and lots of audio problems, but they don't look familiar to me. Could this be a bug? I should note this issue does NOT occur from a laptop or desktop (Mac or Windows) running the View Client.

So I'm left to wager that it's either the Thin Client OR the linux View Client build that is wonky.

I should also note that PCoIP logs show no loss or dropped packets and perfmon shows pretty stable PCoIP session stats inside the Windows OS on the View desktop VM. Any thoughts or ideas on this? Thanks in advance!

Horizon View Client Drive Redirection (CDR) not working

$

Hi,

We are having issues with Client Drive Redirection on Windows 10 1709. When users log in using the Horizon Client (Blast protocol), they are able to see a mapped drive which maps to the host's c:\users\<username> location. When a user initiates a copy/paste operation from the virtual desktop to the mapped drive, the Copy popup window gets stuck at 0% and when they click "This PC" in File Explorer, nothing shows up in the right pane. Once in a while, they also get a pop saying: \\tsclient\<username> is not accessible. Attempt to access invalid address. This happens for internal and external connection to the VDI. However, once in a while, copy/paste operations do work. When they do the problem above strikes after a couple of copy/paste operations.

This is the VDI setup:

  • Horizon View 7.5.1
  • UEM 9.4
  • Windows 10 1709

I did notice that this DOES NOT happen in Windows 7. I am trying to migrate users off of Windows 7 but need this CDR problem resolved first. Has anyone ran into this issue? Thanks.

Windows 10 build 1803 error in new VMs.

Hi all,

I am 99.9% certain that the problem I have is Microsoft related however I just wanted to see if anyone else had seen the same issue and how they resolved it.

I have deployed desktops in Horizon 7.5 with the 1803 build of Windows 10.

The desktops are taking a long time to load upon first use and then they give an error popup that the desktop cannot be found in the searched location.

The desktop is just shown as a bare desktop.

(They are not using Roaming or Mandatory profiles).

If I also boot up the master image VM I see the same behavior there. (do I just need to do a reinstall and hope that one comes out better?)

Researching on the internet leads me to believe that it is a Microsoft Win 10 issue and nothing to do with Horizon 7.5 however that hasn´t helped me to resolve my issue.

(I found out that the build given to me was at RTM level so I updated it to the latest build before the L1 vulnerability patch however I still see the issue)

Has anybody else seen this behavior and found out how to resolve it?

Any help or comments would be most welcome.

Regards

Mark

KB55049 - How to get better performance for a single vGPU profile for all vGPU desktops (Breaks instant clone provisioning)

$

I am curious if anyone has any information on this KB article.  I came across it while troubleshooting another issue, and found that it makes sense to implement on a new environment I'm building.  The new environment is a VXRail 4.5.212, Horizon 7.5.1 with GRID M10 cards all using the M10-1B Profile.

I enabled the feature per the article, but it broke provisioning in a spectacular fashion.  I have some screenshots at home I can attach later, but I found it very odd.  After disabling the feature per the article, I ended up having to manually reboot ESX hosts before instant clone provisioning would start working again.

Can anyone explain what exactly this feature does to enable "max performance mode"?  I thought that setting the VM's to distribute VM's across GPU's in vSphere was all that was needed?

USB Redirection problem with newest USB Flash Drive

Starting few month ago, some users start complaining about their USB Drive get empty after awhile under a View session. At first is was only the SanDisk Ultra 64Gb the culprit. We reproduce the problem with 3 identical device of the same model. Now there is more and more reported problem of the same type but with others USB Drive. Here what we collected so far:

-SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 64Gb (#SDZ48-064G)

-SanDisk Cruzer Glide 16Gb (#SDZ60-016G)

-Emtec C450 Slide (64 Gb)

To reproduce the problem, just do a read stress test and after some time (between 5sec and 3min) the USB Drive still connected on the client and visible in Windows Explorer but the content shows empty. Windows sees a device but can't do nothing on it. Disconnect and reconnect the device in the View client fix the issue. The local client have no errors.

We have a support ticket open since january on this. We gave a lot if debug log and additionnal datas on this issue but we still waiting. So far VmWare wasn't able to confirm the problem. We suspected the newest cheap USB Drive with new USB controller on it. Something change for sure with these USB Drive because everything works fine with old device. Have you ever see the same behavior?

Client: Windows 7 and Windows 10

VM: Windows 10 build 1709 and 1803, Windows 7

VmWare View client: 4.8.1 (we test many oldest versions)

I've (seemingly) successfully installed the Horizon view client, but when attempting to connect I'm getting an error in firefox - basically the "vmware-view" protocol handler isn't install(ing)?

Anyone got any ideas? I've restarted, uninstalled/reinstalled etc, with no luck.

The URL starts with "vmware-view://"

Running 7.5.1 with Windows 10 LTSB and the latest updates. On the master image I can click on the start menu button and it comes up fine and dandy. But after deploying a few desktops via linked clone when i login to a desktop and try and click on it, I can't get the start menu to work.

Anyone encounter this issue or have any suggestions?

RDP connection "Access Denied" after Microsoft Cumulative Security rollup KB4343897

$

0

After WSUS rolled out the Microsoft cumulative security rollup KB4343897 (August patches), all of our virtual desktops using RDP connection are having problems. Whenever the virtual desktop is "locked" either by choice or due to inactivity the View Agent pops up with an error "access denied" and the desktop session is closed back to the client computer. If you try reconnect you get the same session and error, and then the connection closes to the client computer. Using Blast or PCoIP works fine, and the session is re-established. On our network however Blast and PCoIP are not working optimally (thats another story), and are laggy. Our users therefore prefer RDP. If you have reestablished the session with Blast or PCoIP, and then just disconnects, you can then reconnect with RDP without problems (becuase the desktop is now no longer locked) - but if you are inactive for too long, or lock your desktop, the error emerges and your session crashes.... So, the problem is spesific with RDP connections, and ONLY when the desktop is locked. (We are running Windows 10 desktops. Build 1709. The error happes with both 7.4.0 and 7.5.1 agent) Uninstalling KB43439897 immidiatly solved the problem, so there is no question that the WSUS upgrade, and indeed this exact patch, is the culprit. Problem here turns out that uninstalling this KB is only possible on older desktops that have gotten a few/some of the security-patches individually installed at earlier dates, before MS released the security rollup in the midst of August. For the newest and latest desktops (most of them), they now only get the cumulative rollup, and on these desktops uninstall is not possible. Why I'm not sure, but I've successfully removed the patch on 12 desktops, all of which have been in use for a while. While on all new desktops, uninstall fails. Comparing them on the "add remove programs" the older systems have 12 patches, the last one beeing KB4343897, while the newer systems only have 5 patches, the last one beeing KB4343897 - and it's not uninstallable (it fails with an error). On the older systems however, uninstall works just fine.... But nevertheless, uninstalling this security fix is not a solution, nor just a workaround while waiting for an actual fix.... either by VMware or Microsoft..... and It's kinda inconvenient to the users to in the meantime switch protocols back and forth because of this. Anyone else that are seeing this exact behaviour? Or is able to replicate it? Or having some tips to what I can try to maybe work around this in a better way for all our users while waithing for the support-case.... At the moment I have 12 happy users that have been lucky enough to get the patch uninstalled... and I have several more unhappy users asking me to get this fixed....

Guys, I've been using PCOIP with zero clients Dell P25s for a few years now an dwe are exploring moving over to Blast with 10zigs.

Can anyone help me understand how I can redirect the Blast traffic over a particular nic on a VM with more than 1 adaprter (Wins 7 and 10)?

When using PCOIP there was a small registry hack that ensured the traffic when over a chosen adapter; is there a similar hack for blast traffic?

Trigger logoff from msft RDP client in linked clone???

Hi,

Is it possible to trigger the logoff message to the connection server from a "direct" connection/login through Microsoft RDP client on a linked clone? (Not to resemble with the Horizon direct connect component as that component isn't installed).

The RDP connection has not passed through the connection server to get assigned to the linked clone...

What I'm trying to achieve is to get the linked clone to be refreshed/deleted after logoff.

Instant Clone on Windows 10

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I have created a windows 10 vm with the 64bit VMWare View agent running (7.5.1) on it, VMWare tools (latest) and HW level 13. Windows 10 is Windows 10 Enterprise (Windows 10 Business Edition 1803 from my visualstudio license).

I have a snapshot taken and when I try to create an Automated farm with Instant Clone, the VM will not come up on the list.  If I select all available VMs and then mouse over the windows 10 VM, it shows 'VM with Unsupported Guest OS'. I have even gone as far as rebuilding the windows 10 image with another edition and still have the same issue.

Is there a way to find out what is actually causing the image/vm validation to fail or am I missing something else in the build process maybe??
