I'm reading this document: Load Balancing across VMware Unified Access Gateway Appliances and wondering what is practical difference between:

a) Method 3 - Multiple VIPs (from document)

b) Having two UAGs on different IPs with different FQDNs (A records), without any LB. Users are accessing it via CNAME so they still have single URL and a simple load balancing via round robin is performed.

Drawbacks for method B can be further eliminated by using e.g. f5 gtm or similar solution. Am I missing something here, but I really don't see use for LB (ltm like) in front of UAG.

I'm having trouble with smartcard authentication on a newly deployed W10 image. A user is prompted for a PIN when inserting the card by the View client, but when they try to open a desktop, the credentials don't appear to be passed through and the user is presented with a windows logon screen where they can either enter their username/ pass, or re-enter their SC pin.

The setup is identical to a previous W7 deployment that has been working for several years without issue. From a windows perspective, the same services are enabled on both images, and they both use the same middleware and version (Gemalto.NET). I can't see any differences between the images at all - would anyone have ideas on what I could try?

We're attempting to build a Windows 10 1607 VDI image on View 6.2.3.

We've applied most of our required settings to the image and successfully composed machines at multiple steps along the way.

We are now composing after setting the devices.hotplug=false as per VMware kb 1026230.  This allows us to use the start menu and search bar.

We can log into the master image and it appears to work as we would want it to;

When we compose linked clones from this image, they fail with initialization state error (9): Failed to relocate disposable

Is there a detailed guide to the meaning of the initialization state errors in Horizon View? What would be a logical next step in troubleshooting?

I am trying to install VMWare Horizon Client 4.8 on a computer with the following sintax:

The installation is successful but it adds the last server and I need to install the program with the two servers.

What can I do to install the program with the 2 servers.

In VMWare Horizon View Administrator we are currently seeing events being logged continuously relating to vCenter at address being temporarily disabled and almost immediately afterward vCenter at address is enabled.

I have problem in Horizon View 5.3 environment that's happening from time to time. When I create a new user in Windows Server 2008R2 Active Directory and try to assign it in VMware Horizon View Administrator it can't be found via search. Old users can be found, all except new ones. Problem is resolved by restarting connection server. I am wondering does anyone know why is this happening.

I am having dual-monitor setup in an extended mode.

I am connecting to published Desktop in "Full screen-All monitor" display mode via PCoIP.

Desktop is getting launched on both monitor as per expectation IF AND ONLY IF primary monitor is on left side.

If I switch monitor position, means left-most monitor is Secondary and right-most monitor is Primary then Published Desktop appears on Secondary monitor and extends to primary.

Is there any way launch the published Desktop always on Primary monitor (irrespective of it's position) and extends to secondary monitor ?

Above issue also observed if I switch to RDP and Blast protocol

I am using 32-bit Ubuntu compatible Linux with VMWare-view version 4.8.0 (Build: 8492577)

We are currently trying to supply linked clone desktops for our Developers.

They have come to me with a problem that they cannot leave their VDI to compile their solution overnight.

It seems that when they reconnect after some time while visual studio is still open it just crashes when they get in their VDI.

Anybody had this issue as well ?

FYI we are talking about Visual Studio 2013 on Win10 machines.

Currently using 7.4. When deploying Instant Clone, I get an 'unknown (missing)' under STATUS in the Desktop Pool. Reviewing the logs, nothing seems to stick out.

Has anyone experienced this before?

I experiment a strange issue regarding the screen resolution when I connect to a Windows 10 desktop through the Horizon MacOS client.

I open the app and log in to the Connection Server. I click to a pool to access a desktop. The session automatically starts in full screen mode.

The native resolution of the device is 1680x1050 pixels but the Windows 10 desktop stays in 800x600 pixels. It doesn't scale the desktop screen.

If I change the view on MacOS (swipe desktop to left or right) and I come back to the session, the Windows 10 desktop refreshes the screen and then adapts the resolution to the native of the device.

I use vGPU on NVIDIA Tesla M10 and it seems this issue arrives more often with this configuration.

Any of you have encountered that too?

Provisioning: Instant Clones

Client: Horizon Client 4.8.0

Host OS: MacOS 10.13.4

We use viewdbchk every now and again to cleanup pools in Horizon, when the View Admin console is having issues doing such. Just like everyone else. However, since the move to 7.3.2, we can't seem to run it.

According to the release notes there was a change:

• In Horizon 7 version 7.2 or later, the viewDBChk tool will not have access to vCenter or View Composer credentials and will prompt for this information when needed.

This is fine, we know what credentials to use. When we run the command though ("viewdbchk --removeMachine --machineName Xyz --noErrorCheck"), and are prompted for our service account password for vCenter (https://vcenter.fqdn:443/dsk) and for Composer (https://composer.fqdn:18443), when we enter, no characters show not even masked (this might be by design), and when we hit enter to confirm anyway, we are greeted with "ERROR: Cannot get password for user "service_account".

We know the password, we even tested it separately. Anything we can provide within the command differently perhaps?

We are struggling with Microsoft modern apps and Persona Management. We get working all what we need but Microsoft Edge is a beast...

If the folder "AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe" is roam with PM, Edge open and close immediately. Something seems to prevent Edge to be modified by an external process. The copy procedure from Persona share to user profile at login time seems to break something.

Have you figure out how to use Edge with PM?

Is there a supported way to disable a view client from mapping in the default printer to view section? I found KB's out there that would seem like this should work but they don't see to. I don't want to disable this from the guest as there are situation I want the agent to do this functionality but inside the walls of my org I would rather handle local printers via usb redirection.

We have 1 user who is seeing an issue when he attempts to go to a specific pool that used to work fine for him. Now though, when he clicks on the pool after authenticating with his Horizon client, he gets the message "This desktop is currently not available. Please try connecting to this desktop again later, or contact your system administrator.". If he switches to other endpoints (even even HTML Access), he gets the same message. If I use my account, from these same endpoints, I get in fine. I did verify that this user does NOT have any current sessions on the pool. Is it possible something in the ADAM DB is saying this user is signed on/hung up, and is not clearing?

Horizon 7.3.2. Using Cloud Pod. 4.7 Client, 4.8 Client, Wyse ThinOS, and Chrome HTML Access clients have been attempted.

I'm a desktop engineer and looking into the situation that Horizon view client 4.4 can generate a lot of dump files. I noticed these files are stored in C:\ProgramData\VMware\VDM\Dumps as well in C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\VMware\VDM

These files are around 400-600 mb each and one user had about 40 GB of dump files. Another user has about 20 GB of files.

Is there a way to limit the number of files generated? Or otherwise, to disable the creation all together?

I need help.  I have been banging my head on this one for a while.  I created a user which I believe should be able to log into the the View Portal, but every time I enter the proper credentials I receive this message: "You are not entitled to use the system".  What?  Why?  Can anyone provide some insight into what is going on and what I need to do to correct this?  Thanks in advance.
