View Feature Pack - RTAV: How to increase audio quality

Hi, we are testing View 5.3  with feature pack installed. RTAV is really great, specially with webcam. But audio quality from microphone is limited to 8 khz and it seems to be an hard limit.

 

There is a VMware KB explaining how to increase video quality but not for audio. Is there a way to change audio settings for RTAV? And if not, why this very low limit? We understand 8 khz is just OK for Skype calls but it could be better.

 

PS: We are using Windows client 2.3 and guest is Windows 7 x64. Thanks!

Deploying UAG 3.x using powershell with PKCS#12 certificate fails

I was delighted to see that UAG 3.0 now has support for certificates in PKCS#12 format. Unfortunately trying to deploy a UAG with my PFX file fails with "Error: The specified PFX certificate file is invalid". I can convert the PFX to PEM and successfully deploy the UAG. If I try to then replace the cert using the swagger UI it fails with "Alias provided does not exist in the keystore. Provide one from the list".

 

The PFX contains the private key, device, intermediate and root certificate. I'm specifying an alias which is the friendly name of the device certificate.

Skye status intermittently stuck on "Away" with Blast Extreme through UAG

We are seeing an intermittent issue with remote users using Blast Extreme through a UAG where Skype thinks the user is still Away. You can not manually set it to Available and the Skye client must be quit and relaunched to set the status properly.

 

When a user connects internally with a Dell Wyse P25/5030 zero client using PCoIP it works as expected. Skype properly detects the user is connected and sets the status to Available.

 

We are running Horizon 7.1, Horizon Agent 7.1 on Windows 7, UAG 3.0, Horizon Client 4.5.1, Lync 2013 Standard Edition and Skype for Business 2016.

Password expiration prompt not working with UAG

While doing a PoC of the Unified Access Gateway we discovered that it does not allow a user with a expired password to login and fails with "Access denied". We've tested this with the Horizon Client for Mac, Windows and iOS and the experience is the same. Logging in using a Dell P25 zero client or with a Horizon Client that points directly to the connection server correctly prompt the user that the password is expired and allows them to enter the old and new password to update it. We have an open support case but keep getting conflicting answers on whether this should or shouldn't work with the UAG. We do happen to have a RADIUS server configured for MFA and I suspect this is why it doesn't work. Can anyone let us know whether this should or shouldn't work?

Applying Windows updates to the VMware View Server infrastructure

How are people handling windows updates, we are having some replication issues between our connection servers, which I think may be related to the automatic patching done of the horizon view servers.Currently all of our servers in our horizon environment are auto patched including vCenter, which may be a problem. I can't seem to find any documentation suggesting the best process, I do see the recommend restart procedure, which I've done 3 times in the last 18 months

I'm thinking of scheduling the reboots in three seperate windows, with vcenter first, then the connection servers, then the security servers. I think this may be better then the spread apart restarts we have. This is close to that reboot procedure I am wondering if it would work better.

1. Does Horizon View Advanced License capable of RDSH or publishing applications?

2. Do you need essentials plus or enterprise plus licenses if implementing horizon view?

3. For PROD and DR scenario, licensing for PROD and DR is different?

4. Does Horizon view has built in replication?

Horizon View 7.1 - Last user session does not get disconnected

Hi

 

We are using HorizonView 7.1, and have a Desktop Pool with about five computers with no user assignments. The first user logs into one of the computers, from a zero client device. When the user logs out of Windows 10, the horizon view console still reports the user to be connected and sometimes shows disconnected.

 

The issue is that next person comes and is requesting a computer, but, horizon view reports no desktop available on this pool. Below, I have included an image showing the current settings for this pool.

 

How can I set the desktop pool to immediately clear the last user session so the computer is available for the next person?

Hello,

3 weeks ago i upraded my Horizon View infrastructure from 7.0.2 to 7.0.3

We have several desktop pool with Windows 7 and now an other one for testing Windows 10 (1607)

We have a problem with the Windows 10 Start menu (it doesn't appears when we click on it) not always but often.

This problem seems to be known with Windows 10 without considering virtualization

Our goldimage was optimized with VMware OSOT, and other standard recommandations like we made it with Windows 7.

We use linked clone in non-persistent mode with Vmware Persona. (share cifs on NAS,)
Since 2 years, everything works fine with Windows 7, all dedicated GPOs for Vmware View 7.0.3 are updated for the dedicated OU for W10 pool desktop.

In the last ticket (closed now), Support said us this problem will be fixed in the next release (7.0.3) but the problem is still there.

 

I just recreate a SR to VMware support,

 

Any idea ?

 

Your help, feedback or experience would be appreciated

Unable to use AltGr key in Continuum mode

My company is using the Horizon Client for Windows 10 Mobile and Continuum mode. Our issue is that, we're not able to type any polish accented characters using the Right Alt key (AltGr key). Our locale is set to Polish and the established method is to use AltGr in combination with the relevant Latin base letter to obtain a precomposed character with a diacritic (AltGr key - Wikipedia). Unfortunately, pressing the Right Alt in Continuum is recognized as pressing the Left Alt and activates the menu.

 

Has anyone found a solution for this issue? Is this something that will be addressed in future versions of the Horizon Client for Windows 10 Mobile?

Windows Server 2016 client - immediately refresh after logoff

Dear All,

 

I created a floating (linked clone) pool with Windows Server 2016 desktops. Delete or refresh machine on logoff is set to immediately.

 

However I realized when I start a session and logoff the session, composer won't refresh the machine. Composer only refresh the machine when I manually reboot the client in Vcenter. I think composer works fine, but somehow View doesn't recognize a logoff. There is only an option available in Windows Server 2016 to sign out and not the option to reboot or shutdown. I guess this by design and makes sense.

 

In the Global Settings "Enable Windows Server desktops" is YES. We use the Horizon Suite 7.03.

 

Do I need to change something in the group policy that a logoff actually means a shutdown?

Horizon 7 Trouble w/ Files on Share Files Enable Edit + Attach files to outlook

Hey all,

 

I currently have Horizon 7 w/ App Volumes (Stacks + Writables) and UEM running and am having random file issues that are on a file server.

 

I am running a file redirect w/ UEM and have the Writables using the "template_uia_plus_profile".

 

When i try to open a file on the file server and i click enable edit bam i get hit w/ a "could not open "X:\share\share\file.pptx" and when i try to attach a file to my outlook i get the same issue.

 

The current workaround is to pull down the file to the c: drive of the vm and then open or attache , but this isnt a great solution becuase when a user logs off the VM is deleted and UEM saves all documents to a file server.

 

Any Ideas on this anyone?

Horizon ADMX Templates

I want to update all of our Horizon group policy files with the latest released ADMX templates from the 7.2 release. This would be ideal for us since now everything is a proper ADMX template and not the old ADM files that you had to manually import into a policy. My question is if the latest policy templates are backwards compatible with older version of View. We are on View 7.0.3 and don't have any immediate plans to update to 7.2 just yet. I know there will be specific policies that only apply to newer features of 7.2, but would the normal policies that are included in every version still apply properly to my environment?

Replica Datastore storing virtual machines

Hi community. Has anyone seen this happen withing Horizon View 5.2, we have an automated floating pool configured with 1 replica datastore and 20 desktop datastores. The replica datastore reported low disk space and when reviewing its utilization we noticed that some desktops are being stored within it. Could this be a corruption within the pool or any other cause?

Chromebook Horizon Client helper in kiosk mode

For our digital assessment (in education) environment based on Chromebooks, we are using the Horizon Client for Chrome. In order to configure the default server, we also installed through the G-suite the "Horizon Client Helper" extension. This works good within a public session.

 

The issues arises when we want to use the Client as a Kiosk App. Then the "Client Helper" seems to not have effect, and we will need to specify the server url manually. In a digital testing environment this is not a desired solution.

 

So the question is: How can you get the "Horizon Client" working as a kiosk app in chrome, by being able to configure the default server url?

After Upgrade of view connection server "cannot establish tunnel connection"

Good morning,

 

i upgraded this morning one of our replicated view connection servers from version 6.2.2 to 6.2.4.

After the upgrade our users are getting the error message "cannot establish tunnel connection".

 

would someone have an idea as to what this could be?

Unable to Enable Desktop Floating Pool

Hi,

I am working on upgrading to Horizon View 7.2.0.  I have created an "Automated Desktop Pool (Floating Linked Clone)".  When I go to the "STATUS" and use the drop down to "Enable Desktop Pool" I receive the error " [userid] failed to update Desktop [pool name] ".  I looked in the View Connection Logs and found the following error:

2017-06-22T23:31:02.871-04:00 ERROR (0A88-18AC) <pool-11-thread-5> [FaultUtil] InvalidArgument(parameter: desktopSettings.displayProtocolSettings.pcoipDisplaySettings.renderer3D): 3D rendering cannot be enabled when default protocol is RDP and users are not allowed to choose protocol.

In the Pool settings "3D Renderer" is Grayed Out and set to "disabled"

I did not have an issue Enabling the Pool configured like this in Version 6.2.0.

F5+Horizon 7.1.0

Hi,

We have setup Horizon 7.1.0 behind an F5 with the new Blast iApp. When using the Horizon Client everything is working perfectly, but when using HTML5 client only desktop pools are working. When trying to start an application I get the error message: "This desktop does not support the requested display protocol. Please contact your system administrator."

From the Horizon Console side of the we see the following in the logs:

When using the Horizon client everything works fine. We have so far not enabled PCoIP through the F5.
