design-number of IP Address per subnet determines the size of the pool

##The number of IP addresses available for the subnet limits the number of desktops in the pool. For example, if your network is set up so that the subnet for the pool contains only 256 usable IP addresses, the pool size is limited to 256 desktops. With #Horizon View 5.2 you can, however, configure multiple network labels to greatly expand the number of IP addresses assigned to virtual machines in a pool.

 

I am a little lost.  Can someone please explain how available IP address's in a subnet relates to a poo.  When I create a pool at no point does it every ask me for an IP address.  After it boots up, it sends out a broadcase, hey I need any IP, and if there are some available he will get one.  I guess what I am getting at is  either a dhcp server or multiple dhcp servers exist someone will answer if they have one avialalbe.  Why would an IP address from not the same range cause view not to deploy a VM.

 

 

So wht am I missing.

I would like to remove the "Session for user.... timed out" messages which get categorized as Warnings in the View Events Monitoring screen, or reclassify the event as "Info" rather than a "Warning"  I can just care less that someone go timed out.

Upgrading vCenter 5.0 - 5.1b. View concerns

Our View environment is 5.1.2 I'd like to upgrade our vCenter server from 5.0 to 5.1b and the ESXi hosts from 5.0 to 5.1. Our vCenter server is using the default VMware signed certificate.

 

I've experience an updae go south about 8 months when we upgraded vCenter and then View Administrator could no longer connect to vCenter. It would prompt to verify the SSL cert but clicking Verify wouldn't do anything. I belive this was 5.0a. Is this still an issue? Any head's up for doing this upgrade?

IBM TAM e-sso not working in vmware view 5.2 with PoIP

Hi,

 

with refer to subject i am doing a testing of vmware view 5.2 in my lab, I have found TAM e-sso is not working with PoIP protocol, the same works with MS-RDP.

 

My lab details.

 

ESXi 5.1U1/vCenter installed on 2008R2 - v 5.1U1.

 

OS for view testing windows 7 prof x32 Bit / i am testing TAM in dedicated VM not in link cloned VM

 

when the OS boots up, I have to get login screen of TAM (the same works with RDP but it is not working with PoIP) from view client.

 

I wanted to know where I am missing the step.

View Security Server failing PCI scan

We are having our external IP addresses scanned and we have gotten dinged for a PCI vulnerability.  The vulnerabity is BEAST (Browser Exploit Against SSL/TLS) Vulnerability and I know how to remediate it on IIS/Windows but I do not know how to do fix it for Apache.  I have found the article for

Mitigation of CVE-2011-3389 (BEAST) for web server administrators but that appears to direct me to only use RC4 ciphers which I understand to not be recommended for secure environments.  Also the locked.properies file they mention editing does not exist on my 5.1 security server.

 

Has anyone secured a View Security Server to mitigate the BEAST vulnerability?

The SSL protocol encrypts data by using CBC mode with chained initialization vectors. This allows an attacker, which is has gotten access to an HTTPS session via man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks or other means, to obtain plain text HTTP headers via a blockwise chosen-boundary attack (BCBA) in conjunction with Javascript code that uses the HTML5 WebSocket API, the Java URLConnection API, or the Silverlight WebClient API. This vulnerability is more commonly referred to as Browser Exploit Against SSL/TLS or "BEAST".

View 4.x Security Server SSL Upgrade to 5.1 Question

Easy question - When I do the upgrade will my SSL certificate stay in place and function correctly or will I need to make changes? (It's a valid signed ca cert not self signed.)

View 5.2 SSL using a service name instead of the computer name of the connection servers

Hello,

 

this point might has already been answered but, I have 2 connection servers behind a load balancer. 

 

to access to these CS, we are using a service DNS name:

 

view.internal.org

 

so I have implemented a SSL cert that match this DNS name

 

but the servers have of course computer name that are not matching:

 

CS1.internal.org

CS2.internal.org

 

now that my infra is running View 5.2, I have a SSL error in the system health of the admin dashboard:

 

both connection servers are marked as red with the following error:

 

Server's certificate does not match the URL.

 

now my question is, how can we remove this error?

cannot connect to vCenter server because the username or password in not valid

Hi,

 

I have a VMware View installation version 5.1.0 (704644) and when I try to add additional Vm's to an existing pool I get the message (cannot connect to vCenter server because the username or password in not valid).

 

I have checked all the step below and still can't add any VM's

 

If you can not connect to vCenter Server:

  1. Confirm that a network port exists and is available. For more information, see Increasing the number of ports assigned to a VMware View virtual switch (1026014).


  2. Confirm that the necessary VMware View manager services are running. For more information, see Verifying that required VMware View Manager services are running (1026136).


  3. Confirm that the network is configured correctly for use in a VMware View environment. For more information, see Network configuration in VMware View virtual desktops (1026498).


  4. Confirm that name resolution is operating correctly in your environment. For more information, see Verifying DNS settings for VMware View (1026017).


  5. Confirm that permissions/credentials are correct for the vCenter Server user. For more information, see Confirm permissions/credentials are correct for vCenter/VirtualCenter server user (1028705).


  6. Confirm that third-party interaction issues do not exist with the operating system. For more information, see Confirming that third-party interaction issues do not exist with the operating system in a VMware View environment (1027466).

    The VM's I have already assigned to this pool I can access. I can access them using the view client and also from the console.

 

Has anyone else seen this?

Global Setting - re-authenticate secure vpn connections after network ..

If the re-autehtnicate secure vpn connections after network interruption is based on a tunneled connection is interrupted or not.  And PCOIP does not go through a tunnel does that mean this setting does not effect PCOIP connections?

Or am i thinking of the wrong definition of tunnel.  I am thinking connection between client and CS

"Prepare for Upgrade or Reinstallation" greyed out

Hi Guys

 

So I've got this little problem over here;

 

I had the issue, that my View Security Server wasn't listening on port 443 and after searching the hole afternoon, I decided to reinstall this part. I did this, using the Add / Remove a Program function in Windows.

 

Now, I'd like to reinstall the View Security Server but i can't, because of a IPSec rule on the connection server (this is what the dialog sais). I should use the "prepare for upgrade or reinstallation" button in view administator under my (ex) security server. Now, this button is greyed out.

 

Anybody knows how i can activate this button?

p.s.: I'll also be very happy about an advice vor my port-listening-problem. I can see i come through my back-end firewall and i can see the tcp-packages on the security server (wireshark) but there comes no answer from my server :/

Device 'Video card ' is not supported K1 Grid esxi 5.1u1

Hello,

 

Im doing some testing with a new Dell R720 with an Nvidia K1 Grid and whenever i create a pool with hardware 3d aceleration i get the following error:

Device 'Video card ' is not supported. This is a general limitation of the virtual machine's compatibility with the ESXi version of the selected host.
Im running ESXi 5.1u1 on the host, installed the nvidia vib, check that the gpu is enabled using nvidia-smi, vm is using vmx-09.
im i missing something?

View 5.2 - Remove hosts from "ESX Hosts" list

I have one vcenter server that manages 2 different clusters. cluster one has just esxi hosts for sql cluster testing. cluster 2 is for vdi proof of concept testing. When I added the vcenter server into the view connection/composer setup, it automatically added the other cluster and esi hosts.

How can I remove my other cluster, cluster 1, from the view environment. I only want the esxi hosts and cluster visable in the view proof of concept envirnment. Right now all the hosts and datastores are visible.

All available desktop sources are currently busy

Hi,

 

We have an issue where when a user logged in successfully to their VDI using thin client and try to login with same user credentials on another thinclient in a conference room without disconnecting the 1st one. User always get an error message "All available desktop sources for this desktop are currently busy. Please try connecting to this desktop again later, or contact your system administrator" on 2nd thinclient when they select their assigned pool. Then user clicks "close" button and can re-login without any issues.

 

So we did some troubleshooting and found when we remove the attached GPO the error is gone and user don't have to login twice. I tried to remove some settings that i suspected but no luck.

 

Any ideas?

PCoIP Server in Server OS (Server OS as VDI)

Hello Guys,

 

I'm wondering if its now possible out of the box, as for example in Citrix. I would like to use a server OS instead of Windows 8/7.

 

Reasons: VDA which I can't buy and have to rent, MS can change the terms what and when they want, I just can buy it for one year, so just one year of a clear situation for a clear price. Licensing is not possible on a Per User Base (More Devices), i don't like the Windows Store in 8, neither the Apps, Server OS are longer supported than Desktop OS.

 

Bad things: Virus Scanner and other Programs could be more expensive.

 

Apart from Microsoft its not really a problem, user just have to have an RDP-License for a User.

I know there is a way and it works perfectly, but is it - from side of Vmware - legal or not? I don't care if its supported or not. I just have to be able to reproduce a problem with 7 if I need support and they don't want to help.

smartcard authentication to host takes ages

Hi all,

 

I'm facing a strange issue with view clients authenticating to the server.

 

Situation:

 

View Connection server 5.1 in domain, smartcard authentication enabled. Forest has multiple subdomains.

Clients are joined to the same domain as connection server, connecting from both vista as well as win7.

Clients use smart cards to authenticate to their laptops by entering smartcard+pin. passtrough authentication is set on the vmview clients.

 

Issue:


When connecting to the connection server, it takes over 2 minutes for the "cancel" button to gray out and proceed to the dialog box asking for the correct certificate. Once done, it takes another 2 minutes to display the list of eligable desktops.

The connection to the virtual desktop itself works fine. In addition: once the authentication has been done once, closing the view client and immiediatly reconnecting works a lot faster than the initial connection. My guess would be this is though credential caching.

 

I tried limiting the search domains, even restricting to one domain. Log files don't show any significant issues regarding timeouts. How do I start troubleshooting this?

Supported guest OS View

I am assessing VMware's capabilities in providing a zero desktop (Wyse) solution to display multiple Linux RHEL 5 workstations to users by deploying View managed (Connection Manager I really mean) workstations.  I desperately need support for Linux.  I have created a sandpit network to gauge how it stitches together using a simple pool of XP VM's, looks great, but I desperately need Linux support.  Is there anything on the horizon from VMware to indicate Linux will be supported?  My entire work package hinges on virtualising and delivering via PCoIP a RHEL5 console.

VMware View + RFID

Hello.

We are now using VMware vSphere for Server virtualization, but we would like to virtualize our Desktops.

Our needs are:

Virtual Desktops on VMware View

On some Thin ( Zero) clients users  msut login with RFID card ( those users will be more than 1k )

And we must manage those some Thin client with some Internet Cafe software, like Caffe Suite.

 

Is it possible  to build this?
