Desktop refreshes, nic not connected

$

We have a pool of non-persistent desktops that when someone logs off and the desktop refreshes, the nic is not attached. This is not happening on logoff all the time, but at the end of the day I usually see 10-20 desktops in this state in a pool where 150-200 are used during the day. They show in the View console as "Problem vCenter VMs" and in the vSphere console they all have an IP address of 169.254.243.23. When I edit settings on any of these desktops and click on the network adapter, the Connected checkbox is not checked.

Any idea why the nic fails to connect when the desktop refreshes?

Can I solve my performance issues with View 7 and Tesla M60s?

$

We're currently running View 6 with Zero clients and dual HD monitors for all users. We have recently experienced an increase in the number of users streaming multiple video streams (Bloomberg, CNBC, etc.) all day long, and it's absolutely crushing my VDI host CPU utilization and causing performance issues for all of my users.

We're due for a hardware refresh so I've been looking at replacing my existing VDI hosts and zeros, upgrading to View 7, switching to Blast Extreme and adding Tesla M60s to offload all the video encoding. Looking at the Tesla specs leads me to believe I can only accelerate one monitor per VM. If that's the case it won't work in my dual-monitor environment. I'm also concerned looking at the performance numbers here (VMware Horizon Blast Extreme Acceleration with NVIDIA GRID - VMware End-User Computing Blog - VMware Blogs) that the expected CPU offload really isn't that great (16%?), but perhaps I'm misreading the results.

Anyone have thoughts on whether this is really going to solve my performance issues, or any other solutions to handle heavy video streaming users?

Printers on MAC not pulling through in VMWare Horizon

hi guys,

i'm tearing my hair out trying to get printers to work from a mac. printers are mapped using IP.

MAC OS El Captain latest version

tried a number of horizon client versions from 3-4

view agent installed 6.2.1

thinprint is installed vmware tools tried 9.4 & 10.0.0

tried the normal stuff restarting tcpautoconnect etc. and extended timeout values to 900000

printers are not on same network as view environment.

running tpautoconnect.exe -v receive socket errors (10022) and (10061) -- is this an issue with the MAC OS?

help please - probably missing something basic, or where would be first place to check.

thanks - travis

Hello,

I am looking for a setting that will timeout the HTML connection to a desktop similar to the timeout for the admin pages.

Client ID and cloned machines

We have hit upon a slight issue with allowing multiple desktops in a pool from users using cloned thin terminals. It looks like the image was taken after the client had made an initial connection so all the terminals appear to have the same client ID. Now we know this we can sort out new terminals by creating a new image prior to a view connection occurring which should mean they have no client id set until the device is used for the first time.

What we would like to try and do is reset the Client ID on the existing terminals without having to re-image them. As these are Linux devices I assume that the client ID is located in a file somewhere and I wondered if anyone had any ideas where?

Cloned desktops get stuck as customizing or agent unreacheable for long periods of time

We have a ticket open for this issue, but I thought I would post here to see if anyone has seen it before. Beginning this week we have begun having an issue where many desktops do not complete their building process in view administrator. I say many because some do complete successfully. I can count about 8 VMs that may be good for use, but then after that 6-8 will be stuck at customizing or at an agent unreacheable stage. This can last for hours and when in the either stage, the vcenter console shows the desktop at the ctrl + alt + delete screen of windows 7 pro. There are usually no errors except the "already used" or message (this doesn't appear on all of the bad desktops).

Here are a few things I have noticed. Some of the "bad" desktops that are stuck have a self assigned (192.168.x.x) address. Others have the proper address subnet that they should have. On the self assigned ones, I'll disable the nic and re-enable it again, then those desktops get the correct ip address and become available almost instantly (this may need to be done at least a half dozen times). The ones that are stuck with the correct ip (but still say agent unreachable), don't budge at all, even after disabling the nic or moving them to a different server in the vdi environment. After enough users complain about not having desktops, we eventually get heavy handed and reboot the vcenter server, and then after some time (could be upwards of an hour), the stuck desktops with the correct ip suddenly become available all at once (a dozen or more desktops total). We have checked the view connection server and vcenter for drive space, both are good. We have also checked the flash LUNs for the desktops, both have more that a TB of free space. Another issue that appears to happen in all of this mess is that sometimes users will get kicked off a desktop that they were lucky enough to get. The desktop then shows as disconnected in view administrator and the user cannot log back into it. They are logged into a new desktop, creating a double session.

Is there anything else I can look into?

How to increase video performance

I have a Horizon View 6 environment which is used by 100 users. The clients run at a 1280 x 1024 resolution and have 2 vCPU's and 3 Gb of RAM.

It all works fine, except the videoperformance is poor. Watching a full screen video on Youtube doesn't run smooth at all. And also minimizing and maximizing a window or dragging it doesn't run smooth.

I've tried a few settings like turning on 3d rendering and adjusting the max. video memory, but nothing seems to make a difference.

Is there any way to improve the video performance?

Hi,

Just upgraded to the latest 7.0.1. Have done many upgrades without an issue. I have two connections server 01, 02. After the upgrade I was not able to login to my main one - 01. After being able to login via 02 I checked the status and the box is red and says "The service is not working properly" Tried restarting the services and the box numerous times and no luck.

Any have any suggestions to troubleshoot this? Or have seen this before?

Dear all,

I am searching for a way to auto enable display scaling within the Horizon View Client.

This option is only visible when a view client is started from hardware that's supports 4k etc.

by default this option is unchecked. I am looking for a method to check this box for 'Enable auto scaling' automatically.

I searched for regkeys or ini settings etc but I cannot find a thing.

Any suggestions?

Kind regards,

Tim

ps. The View agent that I am using is version  4.0.1.

Add Memory / vCPU to a linked clone VM

Hi all

Actually I have no access to a (test) view environment, so I ask you

One of my customers asked me, if it is possible to add resources (in this case vRAM) to a runningsingle VM in a linked clone pool. So only one VM needs more resources. Change the master and recompose is actually not an option, because it is only one VM that needs more RAM.

Is that possible?

Persona Manager and Folder redirection

I have a small issue in that I want to use persona manager but I have folder redirection for all of our users.  WE just redirect certain folder like Desktop, etc.  The problem comes in with View.  I have a bunch of doctors that insist on using multiple desktops (persistent and non-persistent) to get their work done on a daily basis.  They use Persistent so they have their OUTLOOK and when they roam to an exam room they want to use their NON-Persistent desktops.  I'm pretty sure I can accomplish what I want with Persona Management but the folder redirection kind of hinders that.  Is there a way for me to use Both so that I can get all the docs to utilize only one pool of computers on View??  Can UEM help me in any way with this issue?  Any comments or suggestions are welcome.  Thanks!

Odd Video Issue - Lock Screen?

Environment: ESXi 6 Update 2, Horizon 6.2, Windows 7 Linked Clones.

We are seeing an odd issue that I'll attempt to lay out, but, we're still trying to isolate the true details/cause. Bear with me.

It seems on a subset of VMs that lock their session in Windows due to Imprivata, if they sit for a while locked (like overnight), when we come in in the morning, we'll move the mouse to wake them up (they go into a screensaver from the Windows OS side that presents a bunch of mandatory slides), and, instead of going right back to the Imprivata login screen, instead it will show the wallpaper from the windows session for about 40 seconds, THEN finally present the login. Once we login, the VM is usable, but, seems a tad slow, even though I don't see any real process hanging. pocip_server_win is running a tad high but doesn't seem to be crushing it. Again, still digging in on the details, hoping I find the same issue tomorrow AM and can check on the processes running again.

Keep in mind: when I say the wallpaper from the Windows session, it's essentially the Windows session desktop, but without all the icons. Not sure I'm making any sense, but, that's what we see. Perhaps it's a video refresh issue?

As a comparison, a VM right next to this (both are connected via ThinOS terminals) that has no lock screen but everything else is the same, did not seem to experience the issue when we came in. Tonight though, I locked it manually myself via the Windws Key + L. I am going to see when I arrive in the morning, if this one sees the same odd issue. Right now all I see to have to focus in on, is the locking.

I'm going to try and eliminate the terminals as an issue as well by hooking up other models/OS versions.

Hope someone has seen SOMETHING similar to this, and if so, any feedback would be great.

Thanks.

Horizon View 6.2 WAN performace over MPLS (3D Applications)

Hello,

Hoping the community here can assist and provide some suggestions or recommendations to improve my end user experceing using View and 3D Applications.  Below are the details of my environment.

View Host:

Cisco C240-M3S
ESXi 6.0.0-3620759
GRID K1 Card - Host Driver 361.45.09

VM Config:
Win 7
12GB RAM
2 vCPU
K160Q Profile

Application utilizing inside the guest OS of the VM is Autodesk Revit and Plant3D.

User Access:

User is accessing the VM using the 4.0.1 Horizon View Client over a 6MB MPLS connection.  Ping times from the uses location to where the VM is hosted is 15-17MS.

Endpoint Site:
5min Average traffic In: 275.2 kb/s
5min Average traffic Out: 174.1 kb/s.

Datacenter where the VM is hosted has a 50MB MPLS connection.

5min Average traffic In: 7675.9 kb/s
5min Average traffic Out: 29.6 Mb/s

Group Policy PCoIP Session Variables:

Set the Image Cache Size in Megabytes: 500MB
Set the Minimum Image Quality value (default value: 50): 50
Set the Maximum Initial Image Quality value (default value: 90): 100
Set the Maximum Frame Rate value (default value: 30): 100
Use image settings from zero client if available: disabled

Set PCoIP session bandwidth floor in kilobits per second to: 128
Enable/disable audio in the PCoIP session: Enabled
Enable/disable microphone noise and DC offset filter in PCoIP session: Enabled
Turn off Build-to-Lossless feature: Enabled

User experiences choppyness or delays when attempting to rotate the model in the 3D view.  I understand that tweeking these settings is an art.  I am not seeing any latency on the backend storage where this VM resides, which we are running a hybrid box with Fusion IO cards for QoS on the storage side.

Looking forward to suggestions from the community on helping improve my users experience utilizing 3D applications via VMware View.  I have also been looking at upgrading to View 7 to see if the Blast Protocol would provide better performance over the traditional PCoIP protocol.

Thank You

Horizon View 7, Windows 10, Apex 2800, initial connection results in single monitor, subsequent work fine

Hey Guys, here's the setup.

Horizon View 7.0.0

ESXi 6.0 build 6620759 (U2)

Apex 2800 and driver package 2.5.3 (supports for Windows 10 and vSphere 6)

Windows 10 x64

VMware Tools 10.0.8

The symptom is on initial connection, the second monitor isn't even displaying and the primary as at the non-standard resolution. Trying to whittle down where the issue is. PCoIP server log shows that APEX is only in use for one of the monitors, which is not good. Subsequent logins show it using Apex for both. The Apex driver is installed in the Windows 10 guest as well as ESXi. Thinking this is purely a Teradici issue, but figured I'd post here in case anyone else has experienced it.
