Vmware View without two-way trust

From a security standpoint we don't want a two-way trust between the domain VMware View resides in and the domain our users/machines resides in

Is there any possible way to accomplish this?

Can Outlook 2010 notifications from host PC appear over View window?

$

I'm a tech resource on a non-technical team that has just started using View to access remote virtual PCs. One thing that's frustrating my customers is that their local PCs' Outlook 2010 notification pop-ups don't in fact pop up over a full screen View window.

The easiest remedy is to run the View window at less than full screen, giving Outlook some local screen real estate to use. But my customers are hoping for a solution that will let them use View in full screen mode, largely because that seems to be the best (only?) option with View's support for multiple monitors.

Is there a way to see the these notifications without relinquishing full screen mode?

Any suggestions appreciated!

Default Playback Device Bug?

$

Hello

We are using View 5.1.2, vSphere 5.1, Windows 7 x64 SP1 virtual desktops, PCoIP...

When no USB devices are plugged in the default Playback device shown in Control Panel is VMware Virtual Audio (DevTap) device.  All good so far.

If a USB device is plugged in which has a sound output capability (in this case a pair of USB headphones), the default playback device is automatically switched to the newly plugged in USB headphones - we don't want this, we want the user to manage the default playback device.  This does not occur on a standard Windows 7 thick client desktop which I would view as "normal" behaviour.  When plugging in the USB headphones the currently set default playback device remains as the default device and does not flick over to the headphones.

Anyone know if the above is expected behaviour in a View environment?  Is it possible to control this so that Windows 7 keeps it's default playback device regardless of what is plugged in and allow the user to change the default playback device when required?

Cheers

Setting up EUC-Access point with NAT IP instead of in the DMZ

Is it possible to configure the EUC-Access point behind a firewall with a 1:1 NAT IP instead of setting it up in a DMZ?  If so, when deploying the OVA do still configure the public IP in the OVA settings or the internal IP for the external IP?

Horizon Access Point Appliance - glibc patch

All,

I'm trying to get the glibc patch installed (listed here: https://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2144090) on the access point appliance 2.0.1. However, I'm finding that rather difficult since SSH is not working. The sshd is present on the appliance, but even after starting the service, trying to SSH to the appliance doesn't work. I tried setting PermitRootLogin set to Yes on the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file, but the SSH connection keeps error'ing out with message "software caused connection abort".

I found that iptables is not set to block anything on the appliance. Nothing is blocking SSH port from my internal network to where the appliance is sitting. How am I supposed to get the glibc patch installed if I can't get the rpm file uploaded to the appliance?

Thanks,

Issues with audio/video streaming with USB devices on zero clients

$

Hello:
We are using View 6.1.1 in our environment and having issues getting audio/video streaming to work well with USB headsets, with zero clients.  The headsets are Jabra Link 360 and the zero clients are Samsung NC241.  The headsets are used both for phones in Jabber, and also as the default audio device.   We started by using the Teradici audio driver and everything seemed to work well except that users could not answer calls on the headset itself with the button on the headset.  They were able to answer calls from within Windows however and that part worked fine.  In order to get the physical button working, we had to first bridge the USB receiver that they use on the zero clients so Windows would see it as the Jabra 360 device and not the Teradici audio device.  Then we had to enable EHCI mode for USB on them as well, and after that it started working fine.  However, the headsets are also used as the primary audio device as well as the communication device (phone), with audio streaming continuously throughout the day.  With the current setup, the audio streaming will cut in and out during the day, and audio/video is not always staying in sync either.

I have also applied the registry hack in this KB, VMware KB: Improving audio quality when using USB headsets or speakers with a VMware Horizon View 5.2 desktop , which helped clear up crackling that we initially had with the phone part of the headsets.  But the issue of audio streaming persists.

I am wondering if the efficiency of bridging USB is not as efficient, and also is there a way to make this work better?  I have read that using the Teradici driver is supposed to help with audio/video problems, but not sure how that may apply to USB devices like we are using.  I have been reading up on the audio/video Teradici settings, but am not sure where to go from there.  I was hoping that there were some best practices to using USB headsets with View, but so far I'm not finding anything helpful.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

VMWare Resolution Issue on Chromebook Pixel 2015

Hi everyone -- I am a new owner of a Chromebook Pixel 2015 and am going back and forth on keeping the device.  I think potentially solving this issue might sway me to keep it.  I use VMWare for my job and when I try launching the app I have a weird scaling issue.  I know I'm on a high-res screen, but normally it scales just fine.  This is what happens when I launch the app: http://i.imgur.com/MtynrXo.png

Any and all help would be appreciated.  I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app, changing the resolution settings, etc.  I've seen other questions on this message board from fellow Pixel owners so I'm wondering if it's a bug with the current version (those posts are a little earlier) or something else.

Thanks so much in advance!

Log in as Current User - Horizon View Client 2.2 - GSSAPI Failure

Hello Everyone!

We've recently upgraded to View 5.3 here and unfortunately the client seems to throw the following error when using "Log in as current user.."

Capture.PNG

This problem only occurs with the 2.2 client, previous clients have no problem connecting to the connection server.

If you remove the log in as current user option and proceed to enter username/password, everything works as expected.

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Hi all,

I am trying to use the Horizon Client on a MAC and connect it to our VDI environment, but it fails with a certificate warning. I have made changes the ~/library/preferences/com.vmware.horizon.plist and certificateVerificationMode to 3. But it still say that it does not trust the certificate.

The Mac client is version 3.5.2

Thanks,

Hi all,

I'm trying to run the view 3.5.2 client on Ubuntu 14.04 x86 (32 bit). Login works but if I start a desktop the remote MKS crashes after a while with this error:

I have no idea where to go with this, any ideas?

Power off after logoff not working

Hi all,

After upgrading to View 6.2.2 desktops pools with Remote machine power policy set to "power off" or "suspend" stay in "available" after logoff. After user logs off, the desktop stays in "available" even when the policy is set to power off.

Is this a common issue?

Thanks,

vmware horizon view on OSx 10.10.5 Yosemite fails install

Hi, I am trying to install vmware horizon view on OSx 10.10.5 Yosemite but it fails.  Any advice on how to get this installed?

I've used "uninstaller" to clear out any residual files.

I've gone through my applications and remove any unnecessary apps.

This is the client I'm trying to install.

VMware-Horizon-Client-3.5.2-3151577.dmg

The install fails and I see all these crash reports in the OSX console

Using RDS host for View and direct RDP

$

Hello.

I have an RDS desktop pool with one Windows Server 2008 R2 RDS host, set to PCoIP only. Running 6.2.0.

This RDS host has been around before we even started doploying View, so a lot of our users are still using it through direct RDP.

However, some of these users also access that RDSH via View, e.g. from PCoIP zero clients in conference rooms.

The problem is, if a user that already has a normal (non-View-brokered) RDP session (be it active or disconnected) on this server tries to connect to it via View (expecting to resume his existing session), it won't work, because the protocols/connection types (RDP-Tcp vs. VMware-RDS) aren't compatible.

Here's a screenshot of the error the user gets, from the (latest) Horizon Client:

error.png

It's even worse when trying to connect with a zero client, as there's no option to log out the existing session.

This also works vice versa: you cannot connect via direct RDP if there's a View session open for that user.

I have already tried disabling the "Restrict each user to a single session" setting in the Windows RDSH configuration, in the hopes that RDP-Tcp and VMware-RDS sessions would be able to coexist that way.

This helped a little, I could now successfully open new direct RDP sessions even when a View session already existed for that user, not the other way around though.

Other possible workarounds could be to automatically log off sessions on disconnect, but I'd like to avoid that if at all possible. Also, this approach wouldn't help for active sessions anyway.

Is there any way to solve this, short of only letting people logon through View?

Thanks!

View - prevent printer name suffix

We have a pilot VDI system setup for testing that uses View v6.0.  The physical PCs have varying printers on them and I want them to appear in the virtual machine.  The ThinPrint component is pulling them through as expected but it is adding a suffix to the name such as "#:1".  Unfortunately we have some software that expects the printers to have specific names such as "Label Printer" and it doesn't support wildcarding.  Is there a way to stop the suffix being added to the name when it is brought into the virtual machine?

Thanks!

Hello Folks,

On a very small subset of users on non-persistent desktops the user launches Chrome and just gets the dinosaur of sadness. It appears as though it cannot see/find/recognize the network connect. IE is fine and other applications that access the interwebz find it just fine.

This is Win7 // 64bit // Chrome installed on the base // View 6.2 // Composer Linked Clones // AppVolumes 2.10 // Profile Unity 6.5.somethingOrOther

View session not logging off properly after 10 hour timeout

$

We are a K-12 school district and nearly every day we have students that do not log off their View session by going to the Windows Start menu and choosing logoff. Normally this is no big deal. We have View setup with a 10 hour timeout so overnight these sessions are normally logged out and the desktop is refreshed. Over the past 6 weeks we have had these desktop try to log off after the 10 hour timeout and get stuck. When we look at them in the vSphere Console they say Logging Off on the screen. We have been running View for nearly three years and have never seen this until recently.

Any ideas?

all VM's on hosts going Agent Unreachable randomly

$

So I've been trying to figure this issue out since late December. Tickets with VMware aren't getting far, so now I'm hoping the forums can get me in the right direction.

so we've now had 5 instances since December where we leave for the day and all VM's are fine (0 problem desktops) and come in the next morning and all VM's on a host are Agent Unreachable. The Vm's are still running, they are still responsive, can be logged into via Console, have valid IP's, etc. If I vMotion them to another host they immediately become come out of agent unreachable without needing a reboot, service restarts, etc. I can then vMotion them back onto the original host and they continue to work without issue. This has only ever happened after hours, vCOps doesn't indicate any issues/alerts/anomalies, and has happened on 4 different hosts out of 5 occurrences. I don't see any odd metrics in the performance graphs for cpu, ram, disk, or networking. our SAN metrics don't show anything weird happening. I thought maybe vShield or MOVE were doing something but those logs aren't indicating anything either. The VM logs don't have anything super obvious happening in them. I did see a couple of events where the WSNM service is restarting, but it restarts successfully each time. The fact they are responsive throws me off of the vShield line of thinking where a similar situation happens but the VM itself is unresponsive.

Has anyone seen behavior like this and have a "check out X" kind of direction to point me?

We have a network with about 25 PCOIP devices, these are a mix of Samsung NC240's and eVGA PD06.

Randomly, about twice a week all logged in VM's disconnect without warning and won't reconnect for about 20 mins on the Teradici devices. BUT, the VM's are still live and in session if I use a Horizon View client from a windows desktop, I can connect to any of the dropped connections and the session is still in progress, ie. I pickup where the user was dropped.

The View Administrator setting for Forcibly Disconnect is set to Never.

I initially suspected bad network switches (since the sessions were live but the desktop hardware had disconnected) but I have eliminated that as a possibility since I can still ping printers but not any of the PCOIP desktops.

Had anyone experienced anything similar? Or have any idea on trouble shooting and/or resolution would be appreciated.
