VMNames limit reached. Cannot create npvdi10

First of all, we're NOT using composer...

 

I have a small pool of test desktops with a naming pattern of npvdi{n:fixed=1}

 

Under Pool Settings I have "Delete Desktop after logoff" set to Yes.

 

So I log in and out a few times and it eventually deletes and builds everything up to npvid09, and then says "VMNames limit reached. Cannot create npvdi10"

 

 

I sort of expected the View manager to restart at npvid00 once it reached the end of the names it could use.

 

Does anyone have any ideas or input about this?

XP - ERRORMESSAGE=Missing thumbprints

Hi,

 

 

I am having a problem on a new Horizon View installation, my Windows 7 pools work fine however my XP pools come up with the following errors:

Provisioning error occurred for Machine xp-001: Customization error due to no network communication between the View agent and Connection Server

I have checked connectivity to the connection servers, I tried manually installing the Root CA when i saw the reference to missing thumb prints

 

 

I am running everything on 2012 r2 including the domain, Horizon View 6.1 and the highest supported agent 6.0.2 on the desktops.

Any pointer would be greatly appreciated.

how to enable client keyboard layout and IME

Now, I use windows client, windows 8.1, and server side is windows 8.1 too. I am from internalization team of global company, so I need to use different keyboard and IMEs. So how could I change my keyboard layout or IME in the virtual desktop session? For example, I initially connect to server using chinese IME with EN keyboard layout. in the VDI session, I want to key in DE words, so I should enable DE keyboard layout. How should I change the keyboard layout. Another case, I have 6 IMEs in local machine, could I use my local IME instead of server IME? Thanks.

Hi,

 

 

I am new here and it is my frst time evaluating on VMware view.

 

 

I am trying to install VMware View connection server Ver.4.5, however, I have difficulty of installing it.

 

 

My machine is a PC installed with Windows Server 2003 R2 -- 32 bit

 

 

CPU : Intel Core2Duo E8400 3.00GHz

 

 

RAM :　２ＧＢ

 

 

Ｈａｒｄ　Ｄｒｉｖｅ : 200GB

 

 

During installation, my installer showed me : "The wizard was interrupted before VMWare View Connection Server could be completely installed."

 

 

I was doing nothing to the PC while I was installing the server. Also, no other error messages were shown apart from above.

 

 

Could you please help me resolving this problem?

Windows 10 failing at customizing

Have a View environment on 6.1.1 on ESXi 6.0 and am trying to build a Windows 10 pool to see if performance is decent.  It's not that great in a console.  I imagine there are no optimization scripts yet for Win 10, but eagerly awaiting such things. 

 

I have the base image built and all looks fine there.  When I go to build the pool (floating, linked clones), the machines get built and go through power on and then they hang at customizing.  It looks like the machines are blue screening for some reason and I can't figure out how to check that. 

 

Anyone else seen this kind of behavior?  Do I need my ESX guys to update the hosts beyond the 6.0 that was release in March? What about vCenter?  I don't see any newer View components beyond the 6/4/15 release and that is the release I am running on all View components.

Horizon client outside an Active Directory Domain

The use case of a horizon 6.1.1 client on a windows 7 PC  outside  my Active Directory domain, can the Horizon client feature "share folders" as labeled in the Horizon client be limited to  "read only" access ? I want to keep my corporate data within my internal network and not allow it to be copied to a PC running the Horizon client. These PC's will not be a member of my Active Directory domain.

 

When connected to a Horizon guest and you Drop the "options" menu you can select "Share Folders". Within the "VMware Horizon Client Dialogue box you can click "add" and provide a path to a folder that is Local to the PC running the Horizon client. The Folder will appear in the Horizon guest when using windows file explorer.

Is it possible to have 2 separate View environments use the same vCenter server?

I want to be able to set up a second View environment with a new Composer, Connection, and Security server.  I'm running version 5.2 with plans to upgrade to 6 soon.  Ultimately, I want to have two environments running side by side, upgrade one of them, and switch everyone over to it and upgrade the other so I have little to no downtime.  Has anyone figured this out or know if it's possible?

View 6, USB to serial adapter for receipt printer - first and second print missing a little data

We are using the Linux View Client 3.4.0 and an IO Gear GUC232A USB to Serial adapter connected to a Ithaca Series 150 receipt printer. The printer is mapped to the appropriate com port at the start of the java application via script:

 

start /wait /min /cscript //b //nologo "c:\windows\system32\printing_admin_scripts\en-us\prnmngr.vbs" -a -p  "Generic / Text Only" -m "Generic / Text Only" -r "COM3:"

 

The first and second print of the session are missing a line or two of data then it works the rest of the day.

View event: BROKER_POOL_OVERLOADED

Hi all,

 

I have a question about a specific View event: BROKER_POOL_OVERLOADED. This message appears every day on different VM's on all of our Connection servers and all pools.

 

29-07: End of day, user logoff VM

30-07: User try to logon and receive message: 'The assigned desktop source for this desktop is currently not available'. Following message is in the Event database: BROKER_POOL_OVERLOADED:
"Unable to launch from Pool v-w7n52-sph for user PGGM-INTRA\BACJ: All responding machines are currently in use"

 

The user tries to logon several times, but don't succeeded. After a Reset-VM it's possible to logon again. Does anyone know what 'BROKER_POOL_OVERLOADED' exactly means and is it possible to relate this to a specific logfile?

 

Client OS: Windows 7 SP1 64-bit
VMWare Horzion View: 5.2(Agent 5.2)

Horizon View 6.1 Issue

Guys using View 6.1 in a test lab getting an error when im trying to create a new pool, im clicking to in vCenter Setting to grab a snapshot and i get this java error, have attached the picture

 

Server Error

 

java.lang.NosuchMethodError:

com.vmware.vim25.SelectionSpec.<init>(Ljava/lang/String;[Lcom/vmware/vim25/DynamicProperty;Ljava/lang/String;)V

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Replace default certificate used by HTML Access agent

When I want to use HTML5 access to virtual desktops, I have the option to tunnel the HTML5 traffic through a connection server or security server or I have the option to allow HTML5 access directly to the desktop. When I tunnel the traffic, the certificate is used from the connection server or security server, but when I don't want to tunnel the traffic, a self signed certificate is used to secure the connection to the desktop. The user is getting a message that the connection is untrusted (because of the self signed certificate). If I read this: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/horizon-view/horizon-html-access-document.pdf it says I can replace the self signed certificate, but I need to replace it on each desktop individually! This means I can't replace the certificate in the golden-image, which I use to create the linked-clones. Is there a way to automate the replacement of the self-signed certificate for HTML5 Access, or can/should I use a wildcard certificate in the golden-image?

VMware Horizon View VAAI NFS snapshots for EXISTING desktop pools

The option for VAAI NFS snapshots is for existing desktop pools is greyed out unless the pool is rebuilt.  Is there a workaround?   For new pools the option is there and no problem.   Just want to avoid doing this work if possible.

Multi-VLAN Pool and View Horizon 6

In View 5.1, you could do a multi-vlan pool with a few CLI commands.  However, in doing so, every time you changed gold images, you would have to update your script. (http://myvirtualcloud.net/?p=4730)  I read a rumor that this is much easier in 6.  Hoowever, I was unable to find documentation.  Any ideas?

Available (Task Halted) during Recompose operation

Hi,

 

It seems everytime I perform a recompose operation on a pool, this error appears with about half (or more) of the desktops.

 

View Horizon 5.2

Non Persistent Desktops

Windows 7

Delete on Logoff

 

Basically I update the golden image each week and take a new snapshot.

Each time I recompose with the new snaphot, this always happens. ALWAYS!

 

Any ideas? One article suggests the composer server is down (VMware KB: If a refresh operation is initialized on a group of linked clones and the View Composer server is down, t…), but it is up and running.

PCoIP Gateway port 4172 certificate/protocol issues

Just got my quarterly security scans back, and while I thought I had my Security Server configured correctly, apparently I still have issues with the PCoIP port/cert.

 

The scans show the PCoIP gateway on 4172 responding to SSLv3 and not providing a valid cert. I've double and triple checked the registry settings and locked.properties files to be sure I'm not serving SSLv3 and presenting a valid cert, and all those settings look correct.Checking ports 443 or 8443 shows that the protocols/cert are working properly, but the same scan on 4172 shows it responding to SSLV3 and issuing a self-signed (default) PCoIP cert.

 

Here's what my locked.properties file looks like in C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware View\Server\sslgateway\conf:

secureProtocols.2=TLSv1.1

secureProtocols.3=TLSv1

 

preferredSecureProtocol=TLSv1.2

And here are the registry settings that the PCoIP gateway should be using for the cert (The SSLCertPSGNI key is properly set to the public fqdn of the Security Server):

 

 

 

The friendly name on the cert in the Windows cert store is vdm, and there is a private key associated with the cert. As I mentioned, it's only failing on 4172 - 443 and 8443 are working as expected. Any clue where to start looking for why the PCoIP gateway isn't respecting these settings on 4172?

Will it be soon? I would use the communities messaging feature but it appears that I can no longer send messages directly using such a feature.

User on Thin client gets "Unknown Username or bad password" intermittent

I have one specific user who gets "Unknown Username or bad password" for her windows account on a Wyse P25. One work around we found is after her failed login attempt, I login with my domain admin account and sign off. She can then login with no problem. The View Composer server that sign's on for the Windows users has logs in event viewer as "Audit Failure, sub status 0xc0000064" which I believe the code translates to "username does not exist". I find this odd obviously because she has an account and she can sign on sometimes. Does anyone have any ideas?

 

Side notes:

 

She is often signed on a physical machine but locks this computer before trying to sign in any where else. She has tried signing off completely, but we still see the same error. Also we thought that since it saves usernames, that it might be saving some kind of credentials (hence me signing in and off) but she has tried logging onto other thin clients that she hadn't signed on before but still got the error.  The VM pool is based off of a Win7 machine in a Windows 2008r2 domain. No other user has this problem, but no other user signs on multiple locations like she does.

Windows 10 RTM in View 5x

I have a pool configured.  After working through a few issues, VM's are now provisioning, customizing, and accessible.

 

Problem is the Windows Start menu is blank when you log on, and Microsoft Edge is missing.

 

There may other things "wrong" but that's as far as I have dug in so far.

 

Disabled all GPO's but it had no effect.

 

Anyone else seen similar behavior?

View 6.1 / Lync 2010 / Zero Client

Hi,

 

We are successfully using View 6.1 / Lync 2010 and Teradici Zero clients in a Windows 7 floating linked clone environment.

We need to use IM, audio and video - no telephony integration required.

This is working ok (a few problems with mic and speaker levels but we are tuning this.

 

My question is around the bandwidth requirements noting we are using zero client and not thin clients.

 

Audio and video traffic will originate from the zero client and go via the data centre (VDI home) rather than peer to peer.

 

I understand this but would like to understand it better .

 

Does anyone have experience of this scenario and possible restrictions on video quality at the source using either the Teradici Management Console or the Windows group policy RTAV options?

Where to keep master image, should it be on fast storage?

Hello, We are using VMware View Horizon version 6.  We are currently using Linked Cones with Floating Pools that get refreshed every night.  We are using storage Tiering where the replicas are on fast SSD storage and the Linked Clones are stored on slower 7.2k Sas Storage.  Performance wise things are looking good.

Currently we only have about 200 Desktops provisioned.

 

We are in the middle of redesigning some of storage as there is allot of wasted space and other things.  While looking at things, I noticed that all are Master images for our pools are on a 15k Sas Lun.  This is the master images of the Desktop that has the Snapshots for the linked clones to be made from.  We currently have about 8 pools so 8 Master images, im calling them master images there might be a term for them that im not using.

 

My question is, do these Master Images with the Snapshots need to be on Fast 15k Sas storage, or can they be on 7.2k Sas storage?  We also have 10k Sas as well.

 

Ive been looking this up and having found info on it yet, found plenty on setting up Storage Tiering, but no guidelines as to what type of storage the master should be on.

 

I know that we can test this by moving one to slower storage and then seeing how fast they get provisioned, but not sure I have time at the moment.
