Authentication Failed for just one user through Security Server

$

I have a real puzzler here.  For one user we get "The View Connection Server authentication failed" when trying to sign in with the View 4.5 client via the public URL of the Security Server.  Here's what DOES work: I can sign in as anyone else on his Win 7 domain-member laptop and connect to that alternate person's VM no problem.  I can sign into the laptop as him and authenticate to View as anyone but him no problem.  I can sign in as him from any other LAN or Internet-connected PC and authenticate to View as him no problem.  I can sign in as him from his laptop while on the LAN and connect to either connection server directly as him.

The two things that DON'T work are: I cannot sign in to his laptop as him and authenticate to View as him, and I cannot sign in to his laptop as anyone else and authenticate to View as him.

Our setup: Security Server 4.5.0.3082 in the DMZ; two Connection Servers (4.5) on the same internal subnet with a firewall hole through to the one dedicated to the Security Server; View Client 4.5 on Windows 7 Pro 32-bit.

His password is not locked out, and no Failure Audit messages appear in any of the servers' Security event viewer logs.  I have deleted his user profile and changed his password.  I have signed in as Domain Admin on his laptop and run the View Client "administratively".  I have disjoined and rejoined his laptop to the domain.

My initial thought is that the Security Server is caching some bad credentials that only apply to him on this particular machine, but that is a complete guess.  Any ideas?

Created a new pool, the pool inventory is empty

Hi!

I wonder how to start troubleshooting this:

I have used View for a little time now. Created pools and have few working on production-level.

I created a new pool few days ago, but the inventory for that pool stays empty!

There is no error message in events, nothing, it like sits doing nothing after the pool is created.

in vCenter, it does create the folder to the location where the desktops should be, but nothing more, the folder is empty.

There is no error message during the creation of the pool.

Im using vmware view 5.1.2.

Any ideas what I can do now?

Thank you in advance!

I have done so far:

* restarted the services.

* reboot vcenter.

* tried using another image and snap shot.

* created pool with different ID and name.

* tried placing the desktops to another storage.

* checked that the pool is enabled

* checked that the pool is set to provision

* pool is set to stop provisionin on error (tested without this also)

* pool is an automated pool, floating assignment, vCenter (linked clone)

Windows 7 VM's Do Not Join Domain During Customization

We are setting up another enviroment for a View Horizon cluster. We currently run VDI on one cluster with all of our servers but, we are not using View as our VDI solution yet. I am trying to deploy a couple Windows 7 VM's from a template and run a customization on them. The VM's are not joining the domain. VMware tools is installed on the template. It is using a VMXNET3 nic, and I have already made sure I am using the FQDN for the usernames as specified in this KB: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1012314 I have no problem getting Windows 7 VM's to join in our current 5.0 enviroment but it will not work in our new 5.1 enviroment. I've looked though the logs in the temp folder and there is nothing in them indicating that anything went wrong. I dont see anything in them about even trying to join a domain. Sugestions? Any ideas where to look to resolve this problem?

View Horizon 5.2 512MB GPU only showing 128MB in Guest OS

Greetings,

I am running View Horizon 5.2 and I have allocated a maximum of 512MB to a VM and inside the OS (Windows 7 x64) the Vmware SVGA 3D adapter is only showing 128MB allocated.

The dedicated pool settings in View Administrator are set as follows:

3D Renderer = Hardware

Max Number of Monitors = 2

Max Res: 1920x1200

VRAM for 3D guest = 512MB

The VM is set as follows:

Virtual Machine Hardware is VMX-09

View agent version installed in guest OS is 5.2.0.987719

Vmware SVGA 3D Driver version = 7.14.1.1235

Any thoughts as to why the guest OS is not detecting the allocated 512MB.  I am curious now as to if my VM is even utilizing the 512MB that has been allocated to it.

Cheers

location based printer changes in windows when roaming but not in an open app.

Hello,

I'm having an issue with location based printing and the app that use the default printer. We are running View 5.1, Windows Sever 2008 R2 Print server, I have 2000 users, 800 View desktops, 500 Zero clients and about 15 to 20 different locations on one single campus. We have about 15 printers setup in the thinprint GPO and the policy just basically states that if the Base Device (Zero Client, Thin Client, Desktop, Laptop) hostname starts with the location code (MAIN***) then you get this printer. Well after a lot of trial an error we got the printers show load when a user logged in and we they changed locations, for example if user Jane is at device "Main123" she got printer "Printer1", then when she switched locations and her Floating Desktop followed her to computer "Unit456" she got printer "Printer2". So that part works, most of the time. We still get calls about printers not showing up, and we can just start the TPautoconnect service and the correct printer will show up in a few seconds.

The part I'm having trouble with is when a user switches locations and in their Desktop Session they leave an application open. The new default printer will change in Windows - Devices and Printers, but the app won't pick up the new printer change. And it is not one inparticular app, it is all apps the use the default printer when you select print. I have ran all my tests in Word 2007, I will login at one location, get a printer, open Word 2007, type random letters, select print and the page will print out on the default printer. BUT if I leave Word up and I change locations, I will get a new printer in Devices and Printers, but in Word the printer shows up as the previous default printer, and if I select print in Word it will not printer to the new default printer, it will print to the previous default printer that isn't even loaded in Devices and Printers anymore.

The temporary fix is for the user to just close out of the app before they switch locations or after they switch. Sorry for the long back story, but my quesion is, Has anyone ran into this same issue? And if so, What work around's did anyone come up with? Or if no one has seen this before, Do you have any ideas?

Noisy audio on VMware View by using USB headset

Hi,

We have a problem on our VDI platform with USB headset, most of our users are Call Center user and need to good audio quality for their requets,

In normal cases, audio quality is good but when users wants to scroll a page in browser or use graphical applications and even using volume mixer, he faced with noise and in some cases vioce will be cutted off.

Based on my experince, it's not related to our resources, because we have enough resources and also we've checked it on virtual machines by increase CPU ferequancy, memory size, core per socket or etc.

Also we checked PCoIP vaiables on clients and hosts and use different values for FPS, initial image qulaity even we disabled BTL feature, but nothing changed.

This is a summary of my story

Please advise me.

Teradici tera1 zero clients and vSGA

Hi,

I would like to test the new vSGA feature (with Nvidia Quadro 4000 GPUs in the hosts). However, before I start I would like to know if Teradici tera1 zero clients (I have WYSE P20 and Dell FX100) supports the vSGA feature and thus the hardware 3D render via GPU in the ESXi hosts?

Printing on LPT1

Hoi All,

I have a problem and hope that this forum can give me a solution.

I have a virtual desktop (windows 7) on a windows XP client. True RDP

On the XP client is a printer attached (parallel ) on the LPT1 port.

In the Virtual desktop, the printer is pass true with Thinprint (TPVM port) and it’s working.

Now I have an application running that connects towards that printer, but it does not recognize is.

Reason, the application needs to connect the printer true the LPT1 port.

Is there a way to

a)      or pass true the printer direct on the LPT1 port

b)      or to elevate/remap/???  the TPVM port to the LPT1 port

thanks

I have run into an issue that everytime I install the View 5 Agent on a Win XP SP3 Virtual machine, after the reboot the VMware tools shows out of date. The version number of the Agent being installed is Vmware-Viewagent-5.0.0-481677.exe and the VMware tools version is 8.6.0.882.

When I repair the VMware tools everything works and shows green.

Has Anyone else seen this issue?

External certificate Security server, internal certificate connection server?

Hi,

I have two Security servers with NLB in a DMZ paired with two Connection servers in our internal network. What certifictes do we need with Horizon View 5.2? And what Subject Alternative Names (SANs) need to b epresent in the certificate request? Can we use internal CA for certificates for the connection servers? Our connection servers don't have internet access, can they validate the Security servers certificate and appear green in the View Admin?

We use vdi.company.com as the Load balanced address, SS01 and SS02 for the Security servers en CS01 and CS02 foro the connection servers. We do have a working View 4.6 PCoIP gateway setup an dlike to migrate to View 5.2. We ar enot allowed to use wildcards in the certificates.

Thanks,

Nelsom.

Blast Gateway question

I have a LB in front of 2 View Security Servers.  All 3 have external IPs but only the LB have a FQDN on the internet.  Configured Blast Secure gateway to the external ip address.  Everything works but launching a desktop i can see the URL change to the external Blast gateway address and I get SSL untrusted message.  If i hit ok I can login to the desktop fine.  I know with PCOIP the best practice is to use the external IP but this uses the VIew client.  I have tested using a FQDN instead of IP and don't get the SSL untrusted message but just wondering what is the best practice in this scenario?

SQL Express to SQL

We installed View 4.5 as a test to compare with another VDI app a few years ago.  When doing so we installed vcenter, the composter and SQL express all on the same server.  We decided we liked View and went with it.  It was only going to be for 50 users so we didn't bother redoing anything, but turned our test into a pilot and the pilot into production.  We then started to grow the production to about 150 concurrent users and have upgraded to View 5.1.  About a year ago we crashed when the database hit 4GB and SQL Express crashed.  I was able to clean out tasks and events older than 90 days and that cleared about 2GB so we were up and running againg.  In talking with VMWare support I have been told that to convert to full SQL I need to (from memory)

  1. Shut down production for the process
  2. backup databases
  3. change an ODBC
  4. Reinstall the composer because the only way to redirect it's database is during install
  5. restore databases
  6. resintall security server

I see a ton of places where there could be issues.  So I'm wondering if I might be better doing this (all pools are Win7 using persona managment - we connect with a DNS entry matching a certificate so server names can change):

  1. Create a new vcenter server, with composer pointing to new databases on SQL
  2. shutdown production
  3. delete all pools, but keep parent images, delete all snapshots
  4. Remove esxi hosts from current vcenter and put in new vcenter
  5. take new snapshots
  6. create new pools

Does anyone see why this would not work?  Basically create a new View environment but reuse parent images.  Am I missing something?  Seems a lot cleaner and a lot less chance of missing a step and accidently having something still on SQL Express down the road.

view storage iops and uplink sizing

Hi ,

Need help on IOPS and UPlink throughput using iSCSI.

requirements:

12 IOPs per win7 VM (assume)

100 concurrent users

3 ESXi

on average need ~1200 IOPs excluding view servers.

Using Raid5, how do i calculate storage uplinks MBps requirements from this IOPs?

Assume using mid range storage, 2SPs, If i aggregate 4x1G uplinks per processor together, that will give me 4G throughput per processor.

Will it be enough for this IOPs or Do i need 10G iSCSI module on storage?

what is the standard size of IOPs used in win7 VM?

View Logging

Is it possible to alert a admin or specified user of unauthorised access from a unknown location?

Basically I have a client who wants to know where someone has logged in from IP Address or machine name or something and alert them if its from a unknown location. I am not sure this is possible as most ISP's will give you a dynamic address. Would the Security Server log anything?

Thanks

Horizon View 5.2 - Why does it come with VMWare Workstation?

Hi,

I just downloaded the whole package of the Horizon View 5.2 Evaluation. There are a lot of files!

One of them is VMWare Workstation 9.0.1. How does this fit into View? All the other files I can figure out how they work as part of View. But this one, I can't figure out. I am confused!

Thanks.

VMWare View 5.2 Authentication Failed for user in different forest/domain

$

Things work great for the users in the domain the connection server is a part of

Domains have a 2 way trust, firewall modified to allow any to any between the two VLANs

View connection server shows the other domain as green and users can be entitled.

Logging in with View client I get the message "The View Connection Server authentication failed. Authentication Failed."
I seen a post regarding password expiry so set the passwords to never expire but that didnt' help.

In the event logs I have an event ID 104

BROKER_USER_AUTHFAILED_GENERAL User otherdomain\user1 failed to authenticate Attributes: Source=net.propero.portal.filters.WinAuthFilter Time=Mon Apr 08 16:49:12 EDT 2013 Severity=AUDIT_FAIL ClientIpAddress=96.125.243.180 Node=Domain-vBroker.domain.LOCAL Module=Broker UserDisplayName=otherdomain\user1 Acknowledged=true

Blast - No Sound?

Sorry if this a a dumb question, but is there a way to get sound via HTML access and Blast technology?

I do see the Volume bar but I can hear anything! I have tried the latest versions of Chrome and Safari.

Am I doing something wrong?

Other than that, Blast is very impressive technology
