Automatic restart after user logoff

$

Hello everyone

Is there a built in settings that a VM restarts after a user loggoff?

I know there is the possability to "ensure desktop is always powered on" which means when a user power off the machine it will reboot but we do not allow a user to to this just log off and even with this settings the machine remains in power on state.

Do you have an idea or ways to realise this need?

I am asking due to we have problems with the machines regarding KMS and trust breaks between clients and domain. If we reboot them manually the errors are gone.

Thank you all and best regards

Persona Management problem - breaked permissions on remote profile folder

Hi all,

Hi a have a View 5.1 environment with persona management in some pools.

The problem is that sometimes the permissions on the user folder on the remote profile share become messed.

It happens randomly.

The user profile folder in the remote folder share looses the user permission, it  stays only with the parent folder permissions.

When this happens the user login but gets a temp profile ...

I manually redefine the permissions and all works well again.

Does someone know what can be the problem?

Thanks.

Horizon 6.1.1 Slowness/Latency Issues Since Upgrading from 5.3.3

Has anyone else seen poor performance issues since upgrading to 6.1 or 6.1.1?  We have user complaints coming in across the board (local and branch offices across all pools) of latency like issues (choppiness, slowness, lag etc...) that resemble PCoIP latency or loss type issues.  I have used vROps to look at the environment but I can't see anything that stands out.  View hosts resources, connection server, security server, persona repo, SQL server resources, SAN all look good.  I can't seem to put my finger on it.

Snapshot changes are not being applied.

We have a new Horizon View 6 system we are beta testing.

Our current problem is that we have our master VM. We have our snapshots but when we recompose OR create our desktop pools they do not seem to be getting the changes we made during the snapshots.

For example, we places icons on the desktop and they do not appear.

We have custom software we use that we modified a .bat file to suit our needs, this file only appears as the original installed file, and not the one we replaced it with.

Any advice, clues would be greatly appreciated.

View Persona group policy cant find it

Hello, wanted to start testing out View Persona Management, from what it looks like its not hard to setup, however I cant find the group policy, the Viewpm.adm.

According to the instructions it will be in one of two places.  Either on the View Desktop after the Agent install in C:\program files\VMware\VMware View\agent\bin

or on the connection servers in  C:\program files\VMware\VMware View\server\extras\grouppolicyfiles

The Viewpm.adm is not in either location.  There is a v4v_desktopagent.adm but that is not the right policy.

We are running View Horizon Suite version 6.0

Ive tried installing the latest View Agent on one of the Vm's to see if that would install the Viewpm.adm, it didn't, and I do have Persona management option installed for the agent.

Ive looked at the other servers for it as well such as our composer\vcenter server and security servers.

I don't see a download from VMware for this.

Has something changed with the release of version 6 and its in a different place?  Allot of the instructions I rad were geared towards version 5

Thanks

Horizon View 6.0.1 Connection server certificate replacement

I installed the new VMware horizon View 6.0.1.

On the connection server normally you can replace the standard certificate with a custom certificate.

Normally the only thing we need to do is change the friendly name to vdm and restart the services.

I did this and when starting the VMware Horizon View Blast Secure Gateway service I get an error.

Windows could not start the VMware Horizon Blast Secure Gateway service on Local Computer.

In the absg.log I see following message: keystoreutil.exe failed to load certificate from  [ 'windows-local-machine', 'MY', 'vdm' ] 1 Failed to acquire private key handle (error 2148073492)

Has someone seen this before?

When users attempt to reconnect to desktops in the morning, desktop is not responding, has to be restarted in vCenter

Hello!

Since we updated to View 6.1 (and also to 6.1.1) we have the problem that every day around 4 different people from over 100 have reconnect problem in the morning. During the day we have no problems?!?

When they want to connect to their View desktop, Windows 7 pro craches and teh Desktop is powered off. After this craches the Desktop will not start automatically by the user when he try to reconnect. Only over the vCenter we can start this desktops? We use Dell Wyse Zero Clients with the newest patches. Anybody has an idea? In the Windows logfiles we see nothing. The VMware support need very longtime for answers, until now we have no solution.

higher PCoIP supported 3D resolutions?

I was wondering if the maximum resolution or Max number of monitors supported has now increased with Horizon 6.1 and vSphere 6.0 vGPU technology?  It still seems to only show 2 monitors up to 1920 x 1200 resolution in the pool properties, when choosing PCoIP and 3D renderer.  We have some users with larger monitors and 2560 x 1440 resolution.

Stop Numlock from automatically enabling on some clients?

$

Hello!

I fear this might be a strange edge-case, but is anyone aware of a way to stop numlock from automatically enabling on Horizon View clients? Most of our terminals and PCs have access to a full numpad, so numlock is set to auto-enable on the VM's bios. We're introducing some HP mobile thinclients that have that annoying number pad over the keyboard, meaning users have to manually disable numlock every time they log in if they want to actually type something. Is there anything client-side I can do to stop numlock from enabling? I've combed through the registry, vdm_client.adm template, and googled for some config.ini options but couldn't find anything. Disabling numlock on the thinclient's BIOS doesn't work since VMware doesn't seem to need the button to send the numlock command.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

No internal access to Horizon 6

Hello

I had to do a restore of our connection and security servers from a veeam backup. They have restored and are accessible remotely, but we now have no access to Horizon internally via the security server. All the settings appear to be identical, but it doesn't seem to connect. I thought it could be a DNS issue, but all the settings seem fine and testing via IP also fails.

vmware view 6.1 zero client to windos 2012 r2 usb disk on key does not show up

Hello

I can't get the usb key to work from a zero client to a windows 2012 r2 session.

Our setup:

Client:

Teradici Zero Clients, firmware 4.8,

Connection via:

VMWare Horizon 10.3

On the VMWare Horizon policy it shows under "Global Policies": USBAccess Allow

Server:

Windows Server 2012 R2,, using VMWare View Agent 6.1.1 software via PCOIP

Setup works terrific, including HD video/sound.

But connecting a USB disk-on-key to the zero client, it does not show up on the desktop.

There is no message in the Windows event log, I added 32111 to the incoming firewall connections allowed.

When running the same via Horizon View Client on Windows 7 I get a bar at the top of the screen with "Options, Connect Usb Device, Send Ctrl-Alt-Delete"

Here the disk-on-key shows up immediately as a Removable Disk.

Please advise how to setup/debug

David

6.1.1 Connection Server with 5.3.0 agents issue

We're currently running View 5.3.0 in our production environment. I'm testing the upgrade to View 6.1.1, and according to the compatibility matrix, a 6.1.1 connection server should work with agents running 5.3.0, at least for the upgrade period. However, if I recreate pools for the VMs on the 6.1.1 connection server without upgrading the agent on the VM, I just get "Error". Not "Agent Unreachable", just "Error". I'm definitely able to ping the connection server from the VM. I should also mention these are manual pools, if that makes a difference.

View Security Server Certificate not Updating

Hi,

Our SSL cert recently expired and a new one was purchased and configured on our connection and security server.  Now though if a user connects via a blast session they successfully connect to view.domain.com and the certificate shows the new one however once they log on and select a desktop pool they are stopped by a certificate error with the reason being that the certificate has expired.  If you look at the certificate it shows the old expired certificate which has since been deleted form the server.

I have verified the friendly name of the cert is vdm in lower case and both the connection and security servers have been rebooted.

We are using view 6.0.1.  Has anyone come across this issue..  The cert was imported with the private key being exportable and if I go to export the cert from either server I am given the option to export with the private key.  View administrator shows green for both servers with no SSL errors.

I'm not able to get this working (either the 3.2 or 3.4 client)

It connects fine, but then just shows a black or white screen. Anyone figure out any workarounds? (I realize this isn't technically supported yet...)

Multi-VLAN Pool and View Horizon 6

$

In View 5.1, you could do a multi-vlan pool with a few CLI commands.  However, in doing so, every time you changed gold images, you would have to update your script. (http://myvirtualcloud.net/?p=4730)  I read a rumor that this is much easier in 6.  Hoowever, I was unable to find documentation.  Any ideas?

Is VMware View version 5.3.1 build-1634134 Compatible with SVGA 3D 8.14.1.24 Driver on Windows7?

Several users have noticed that their screen "flickers" black for 1 second or so several times when multiple application windows are open.  We have disabling the Windows Aero Scheme for the mouse as per http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2111278 but the problem persists.  As the combination in the subject of this post is not specifically marked as compatible in the chart found in the link below I would like to confirm if the SVGA driver should be downgraded.  VMware KB: The PCoIP server log reports the error: Error attaching to SVGADevTap, error 4000: EscapeFailed

Thank you for your assistance.

Applications resizing when reconnecting to View 6.0 desktop

$

We are running View 6.0.1 and ESX 5.5 U2.  Form my PC, which was a 1920x1080 resolution, I connect to a View Desktop and the View desktop (Windows 7 x64) comes in at 1920x1080 as well.  I then open an application like Outlook or IE and it opens in full screen.  I leave the application open and disconnect from the desktop.  When I reconnect to the same desktop, the application is still open but the application is resized and not full screen like below even though the desktop still reports 1920x1080 resolution.  Any idea why?

I am using Floating Linked clones.  The Pool setting is 2 monitors at 1920x1080 resolution

Hide Menu Bar

Is there a trick to hide the menu bar for OSX? It seems redundant and takes up valuable screen space in windowed mode - you can get to the Disconnect, USB, Ctrl-Alt-Del buttons from the Connection drop down.

There's something similar for Windows, it's called the Shade: EnableShade registry setting not working in the 2.2 Client

The connection to the remote computer ended- view 6 - Windows 8.1

Hello, we are trying to make View 6.0.1 with windows 8.1 desktop for our users.

We have some issues you may help with as the support did't find the solution yet (has been 2 weeks).

Here are the facts:

     01.png

Users may have an error message when they connect to the pool - 1 try after about 10sec : the connection to the remote computer ended

second try     --> the display protocol for this desktop is currently not available

02.png

try 3 --> may have a desktop on the desired pool or routed to the DR pool

we have this message in the event viewer of the connection server:

unable to lauch from pool XXX for user XXX: there were no machine available that reported protocol [PCOIP] as ready

03.JPG

there is about 45 VDI desktop available in the pool

events in the view administrator : the pending session on machine XXX for user XXX has expired

we can have this problem in the morning or during the day, sometime user are also disconected while they are working.

the configuration:

     View 6

1 connection server(6.0.1) by sites running win2012R2 + all patches

      esxi 5.5

we are using linked clones with PCOIP and refresh after logoff

desktop are windows 8.1 with all patches

we are connecting the VDI from a Wyse or from horizon client installed in a windows 7 desktop, we have the problem on the both configuration.

support already checks all logs everywhere, we also created a fresh simple master to be sure that the problem is not master related, we don't have the solution yet.

I hope somebody knows something about this problem or any ideas about new paths to check, I have read all tickets about that and it's most of the time network related, I have checked all firewalls also (network problem would be for all users, not for random part of them).

We don't have security gateway.

Thank you for your advice.

Regards.

Agent-Unreachable - Metric

$

0

Hi all,

we faced a big outage a couple of times where a lot of our VDIs went to "agent-unreachable" and basically halted intermittently.

Now my job is (besides finding the root cause) to report this to our business.

I created a report that pulls all agent-unreachable messages from the view database.

Now i noticed an agent-unreachable entry will also be logged if the machine reboots/resets.

Is there any way to distinguish a problem with the VDM and a simple reboot that can be pulled on a mass scale?

We have over 4000 VDIs - so a script that goes to each and every single VDI could be a problem, besides the fact most of the pools are running on a "suspend" power policy.

Thanks in advance.

best regards,

Niko
