Dear,

I have configured VMware View 5.2 and its working fine in our Local LAN. Now i went to use this from WAN or anywhere and from any device. For this case i have configured another LAN card on the View Connection server with Real IP. After adding Real IP. connection server is trying to connect and giving black screens and after some time its disconnected. without real IP its working fine in Local LAN. Anyone please help me to configure Vmweare View with Local and Real IP configuration.

Thanks

Recompose and Refresh Question

When a VM is recomposed or refreshed is the VM itself deleted out of Active Directory and recreated by running sysprep? Is it possibly done differently between a refresh and recompose?

The reason that I am asking this is because just within the past 3-4 weeks we have had several VM's drop off of the domain because of trust relationship issues. I've talked with VMWare and they are telling me that I need to discuss this with Microsoft. Problem is that discussing this with Microsoft is a lot more costly than with VMWare.

I'm trying to find out the questions above and if they should be deleting and they are not, then I might have figured it out. Thank you!!

Has anyone seen the attached error and how did you resolve it? All the ports are opened and even before adding the Security server to the DMZ, I get this error, so it's not firewall related.

IPSec Status Not in use but it's configured and working

Is this a bug? On my Security Server Details it says "IPSec Status: not in use", but I have it enabled and I just checked the monitoring details and the stats are increasing, so it certainly looks like IPSec is being used.

direct IP printing versus shared print queue in View desktops

$

Hi All,

Do you recommend setting up direct IP printing or a connection to a shared printer within your master View image? We have both methods working (along with the ThinPrint group policy setting that sets the default printer), just wondering which method gives you the best performance. I would think it would be Direct IP printing since it takes a load off of your print-server and the desktop doesn't have to query the print server to find out the status of the queue.

Thanks

3D Remoting Requirements?

$

I'm currently in the process of evaluating which desktop virtualization technology would best suit our needs, and I was wondering what the GPU requirements are for the 3D graphics acceleration. From what I've found on Google, it seems that only a limited number of high-end Quadro/Tesla cards are supported, but are those cards actually required for 3D accelerated virtual desktops to work, or will just about any run-of-the-mill consumer GPU work in practice?

The reason I ask is because I can easily scrounge up a random GPU for testing purposes, but it's highly unlikely that there would be a spare high-end Quadro/Tesla lying around. Additionally, I can't even convince myself - let alone my manager or procurement - that spending thousands of dollars on a piece of hardware just for an evaluation would be a good use of money.

Static or ephemeral binding, best practice?

$

This article recommends using static port binding, Why use Static Port Binding on VDS ? | VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

I have read several other articles recommending static binding over ephemeral citing reasons like using more resources on host and scaling

This article recommends using ephemeral binding for VMWare View desktops, Configuring vNetwork Distributed Switch for VMware View » myvirtualcloud.net

I have been experiencing the exact symptoms described in this second article when recomposing my pool of linked clones; out of ports on my DV Portgroup even though there are many unused ports.

What is best practice here? Are you using static or ephemeral binding for View desktops?

HELP: Module not loading in ESXi 5.1U1 build-1157734 / Cisco C240 M3 / NVIDIA K2 GRID 304.76

I've started a support case on this with VMware, but I thought I might put it up here to document the process of resolving it more publicly.

Cisco C240 M3 Server (System BIOS fw version 1.5.3b)

NVIDIA K2 GRID card (shipped with the server)

VMware ESXi 5.1U1 build 1157734

I have installed the latest VIB for the NVIDIA K2 GRID (304.76), and it installs without issue:

~ # esxcli software vib list |grep NVIDIA

NVIDIA-VMware_ESXi_5.1_Host_Driver 304.76-1OEM.510.0.0.802205 NVIDIA VMwareAccepted 2013-09-27

but then I try to verify the installation:

~ # nvidia-smi

NVIDIA: could not open the device file /dev/nvidiactl (No such file or directory).

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with NVIDIA driver. Make sure that latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

Try to load the kernel module, and get this:

~ # esxcli system

Unable to delete Transfer Server

I was having problems getting snapshots to be published to my transfter server and also to have the transfer server contents match the "published" status of some pools so decided to remove and add it again.

When I try to delete the transfer server I get the error message "java.lang.Exception: Failed to find pool that contains VM with dn: CN=[stringOfAlphaNumerics],OU=Servers,DC=vdi,DC=vmware,DC=int. Failed to delete transfer server with id: [stringOfAlphaNumerics]

I click ok on that dialog and get back to the "Are you sure you want to deleted the transfer server" dialog again.

I've tried with the transfter server in maintenance mode and still no joy. I'm not concerned with keeping the contents of the repository just want to get to a consistent point where I have a transfer server and the contents on its disk match the published values of pools-vCenter Settings - virtual machine settings

Hello, we are currently face with an issue with a small subset of our VM's These are full clones, Windows 7 desktops. We are connecting via Wyse P25 Zero clients with firmware 4.1.2. From time to time (not always, not consistently) the VM will give a black screen after the user returns from a time away from their desk. and so on...

The behaviour on the user end is that they get a black screen, followed by a disconnect. The view connection manager console reports them as "connected". We are forced to reset their VM or reboot from vSphere in order to get them reconnected. We found a VMware KB here which indicated this was a result of the computer putting the displays to sleep (in the power policy), so we implemented a group policy to set this to "never" (it also says the issue was resolved after View 5.0, while we are running 5.2). Issue still occuring. Recently, Teradici support (we have a case open with them as well as with VMware) suggested we disable the Shoretel Desktop Sharing Accelerator, so we tried this. Issue still occurred today.

So, has anyone in the community ever come across this, and were you able to fix it? Our users are getting extremely frustrated.

Options for console-only access to VMs

$

Hello,

I am deploying a vSphere 5.1 (will be updated soon to 5.5) insfrastructure, and I am evaluating the options for users to connect to some VMs running on the virtual infrastructure. The main requirements of this client VMs are:

  • Automatic deploying of VMs from predefined templates is not a need. (e.g. Vmware Horizon main feature is not needed here)
  • Client VMs are Linux-based desktops (CentOS) -> Vmware Horizon View is not an option, right?
  • It is intended the use of thin clients to remote connect to the VMs, and dual monitor display would be a great feature here. Stand-alone PCs is not an option, as in this case I would migrate the whole clients to baremetal PCs.
  • There is a Windows client VM that needs basic 3D acceleration.

So, AFAIK, my options are:

  • Thin client with a supported browser (and Flash) to launch direct vsphere web client console to the VMs. Pros: low requisites Cons: Dual display is notavailable, 3D performance on Windows VM?
  • Forget direct connecting to VM and use a Remote Desktop Protocol like NX or VNC. Pros: VNC is easy to find in a thin clientCons: VNC low performance. NX is not avilable in Thin Clients.
  • Forget Everything and use stand alone PCs. Pros: 3D acceleration and dual head come out-of-the-box Cons: higher costs, low mobility, low flexibility, low scalability, data circulation outside the datacenter.... everything great with virtualization is lost.

At this point the questions are three:

  1. Is there any other option for connecting to the VMs from a thin client? Will it be a soultion the use of Horizon View?
  2. Is there any way to connect to a VM using the PCoIP protocol without using vmware horizon view? Is this protocol only available on this vmware product?
  3. Does it worth to look for a solution relying on a direct Client-to-VM connection, or should I give up this way and look for a client-to-OS solution?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Lagging when accessing VMWare from Windows 8

Hi,

Previously I used VMWare on Windows 7 to access a virtual machine (running Windows 7) for work.

I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 8, and now am having horrible lag issues in the VM. If I try to select multiple cells in Excel, or scroll too much, the system lags by several seconds.

I have downloaded and installed the latest version of VMWare Horizon View (in case it was an issue with compatibility with Windows 8) but the problem still occurs.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

What can be done to resolve it?

Thanks,

Kieran

Horizon View 5.3 - How many is multiple monitors?

I'm working with a client who has a requirement to provide 8 monitors for some of their users. For these users they will be using SBC with a one-to-one mapping, Amulet DXM620 blade workstations to be precise. However I've been advised by Amulet that View can't broker desktops with more than 4 monitors. I've had a look through the View 5.3 documentation and it only mentions multiple monitors, does anyone know what the maximum for multiple is?

Configure View 5.1 for SSL Off-load with F5 Load Balancer

Hi,

I am setting up View 5.1 with an F5 load balancer. We want to install a third party SSL cert on the F5 to handle the SSL connections. The Security and Connection servers will need to be configured to allow the F5 to do the off-loading. I presume that the Security and Connection servers need to be configured to accept connections on port 80.

I am not so much concerned with getting the cert setup on the F5, I have a guy for that. I need to know how to configure the Security and Connection servers for this setup.

Would it be easier to keep SSL all the way thru the F5 and the Security and Connection server? Passing the data over HTTP isn't an issue for us but if keeping all devices configured for SSL is easier then we can do that also, I would just need some assistance with that way too. I think VMware's doc isn't as clear as it could be.

Thanks for the assistance.

Vmware View Client - NLA/SSL - Home PC

Hi

We have a number of staff that use the VMWare View Client across our Juniper SSL to access their VMWare View session.

The problem I have is that I'd like to enable NLA and also SSL for the encryption on the VMWare View Desktops. However if I do that the staff can't connect from home with their client and reports a 1033 error.

I know there are some ADM templates to set settings for inside a domain for the VMWare View Client but this won't be possible as they are connecting from home PC's.

Is there a work round to this issue?

We are using VMWare View Server 5.2 withthe latest agents and view clients.

Thanks

Dual Screen while Connected with a Mini DisplayPort to VGA (Not Using Microsoft's Official Adapter)

Horizon View Client 5.4.0 build-1219906

VM View Agent 5.1.3

When I run the Horizon View Client in Multimonitor mode it doesn't not set the resolution properly and the screens look shifted to the right. The VDI pixels don't start until 1/3 into the side of my Surface screen and the other screen is all off...

Here is the resolution settings on my Surface...

And here is the resolution setting that show up when I connect to my VM...

I'm not sure why it isn't setting the proper resolution. I did restart after changing the resolution on my Surface.

Thanks,

Upgraded client OS to WIndows 8.1 - Minimize, Maximize and Close Buttons Missing

This one is a bit weird. It happens on my client, whether run from the View client on a PC or from a zero client - Windows Explorer, IE, and Administrative Tools windows have no visible minimize, maximize or close buttons, although hovering over where they should be in the upper right-hand corner of the window frame brings up the name of the button for that position and clicking where the button should be visible performs the function of that button's location. I have tried other themes, like high contrast, and they are still not visible.

I have searched on Google for the problem, but haven't seen anyone else with the issue (yet). MS Office applications and most other applications show the buttons normally. I have attached a screen shot of the corner of one of the windows for reference.

concurrent software license model for labs

Hello,

We're thinking about purchasing a software that has a 35 concurrent-use license model and would like to implement on our view desktops. We will most likely have Wyse terminals in a class/lab running this software but would also like other user/terminals around campus to be able to use the software as well, BUT we would also like the class/lab to have priority over other users. When class/lab begins we would like to make sure that the desktops/software will be available to them and no one else so we don't break our license agreement limitation.

Has anyone run into anything like this? If so, how was it accomplished?
