Horizon View 6 - Persona Management - Folder Redirection and Roaming & Synchronization

I'm having a quirky issue with the PMView.  This is what I see:

- Log as test user with Horizon View client (1st time)

- View Desktop loads Windows, and shows desktop (30-45 seconds)

(During this step, I see the profile and redirected folders are created correctly)

- Log off test user

- Log back in with the same test user (2nd time)

- View Desktop loads Windows, shows the "Welcome" screen, and then a black screen.

(During this step, I see the profile repository get "recreated" (i.e., the folders/files get deleted, and then recreated...))

- After 1-2 minutes later, the desktop shows up

This seems like an odd behavior to me, and it's probably related to how I've created my PMview.

This is what I have:

How to remove domain list from Horizon View Client Logins

For security reasons we would like to remove all mention of our internal domains from the Horizon View Client login screen (ie the drop down menu on the login page).

I have used the vdmadmin command to remove all domains (including the primary one which is the only domain our users would actually login from), but the single primary domain still appears in the list.

We would prefer our users to have to login with a text string of <domain>\<username> or <username>@<domain> and to show no domain in the drop down box of the login screen.

Is this possible, and if so, how do I achieve this?

Thanks and Regards

EUC Access Point IP Addressing

Hello,

We have an Access Point 2.8 going into a small DMZ with a single flat 192 network publishing out Horizon 6.2. Using the two IP option seemed like a sensible approach and I have one IP with the rules open to reach the back end servers and another hosting a NAT from the internet facing firewall. However, the documentation states:

"With two network interfaces, external traffic is on one subnet, and internal and management traffic are on another subnet."

Now we obviously we only have one subnet and as a result I have not configured any additional routes during on the access point deployment.

Is a two IP configuration supported on a single subnet? I agree it has somewhat limited advantages but is slightly more secure than using a single IP.

Thanks.

Horizon 7 Smart Card acces to the admin web page

Need some help guys.

We use smart card and my job for authentication.

I have successfully setup Horizon View 7 to prompt for smart card and log into our VDI desktops, that all works 100%.

However I am unable to use my smart card to log into the Horizon View Administrator Web page.

When I hit the admin page it immediate finds gives me a list of my badge certs to choose from, then after selecting the right one (I've tried both that are presented to me) it asks for my PIN. After that it just thinks for a second and dumps me to the login page where I'm forced to use a traditional username/password to login.

I've imported the entire cert chain into my truststorefile.key

Here's what I'm seeing in the logs (edited bold for security reasons):

Linked-Clone Pool Recompose Problem

VMware View 7.0.1, UEM 9.0, and App Volumes 2.11

I have several linked - cloned pools that I have created.  There isn't an issue with creating the pools, but I have an issue with recomposing them.  Customization times out and I get an error that the machines can't join the domain.  The account that is used to connect to the domain is okay.  I have the box checked to allow reuse of pre-existing computer accounts, I'm pointing to the new snapshot, and I don't know what else might make a difference.

I would appreciate any help.

Windows 10 slow login

$

We have been running Window 7 using View for several years. It takes about 35 seconds to login to a Win7 desktop

I am working on building a master image for Window 10 but found logins to be very slow. We are running View 6.2.1 under ESXi 5.5 Update 2.

Here is what I have done

  1. Installed Windows 10, 32 bit, build 1511 which is the latest available for download
  2. Ran Windows updates and installed all available
  3. 1 vCPU and 2GB of RAM. This is the same resources that we use under Win7
  4. Ran the optimization tool found here taking all the defaults
VMware OS Optimization Tool – VMware Labs
  5. Took a snapshot, made a new pool with just 2 desktops
  6. Login times are 1:50, more than a minute longer than Win7. When someone logs in it says "Preparing Windows" then you get the "We're Happy You're Here" followed by a few more messages and finally the desktop appears

I then just went to the vSphere client, got a console session to one of the desktops, logged in (which took 1:50), logged off, and logged back in again, it took about 35 seconds. In other words, logging in the second time cuts login time significantly. Of course a desktop will only realize you have logged in before if it is a persistent desktop. Using a console session in the client to login twice does not refresh the desktop. We use non-persistent desktops so they are refreshed after each log off.

Any ideas how to speed up logins?

Is Windows 10 under View just not a good choice?

Would things improve under ESXi 6.0 Update 2? We are upgrading to the newest version of vSphere in about 2 weeks

Any ideas why this happens?

View 7 HA layout question

Hi,

We are setting up View 7 with keeping fail over and HA our main priority in our design we have ran into an issue.

We have two data centers have the following set up in each one.

1 PSC

1 vCenter appliance

10 esxi host

2 connection servers

1 Composer Server

1 Persona Server (DFS to the other site)

We are going to use the Cloud POD option.

We have a virtual IP address to load balance the 2 connection servers at each site together. However were are trying to figure out how to tie all 4 (two connection servers at each site together).

For example....DC01 has view01 and view03 tied to a vIP, DC02 has view04 and view06 to a vIP.... are we able to make yet another VIP that ties those two vIP's together?

We want to do this so that we can point our zero clients at one address and the user can get to what ever home site we set.

Red X on network icon

I have about 10 users on VMware View Client running Windows 7 32 bit. I have had most of them at some point have a red X on the network icon, the only way I have been able to get rid of it is to delete there profile in AD for the virtual machine and have them log back in. This has taken care of the issue but they lose all that they had installed on the View Client machine. Now I have two of the users showing the red X again. Does anyone know what could be causing this and any other ways to fix it?

Thanks for your help.

vGPU and Blast Extreme vs PCoIP

$

Hello,

We have been running Horizon View 6 with vGPU enable (K1 and K2 cards) to support our CAD/Engineering team and we continue to get complaints that the 3D/Graphic performance isn't up to par.

We have tried various GPO settings to see if we can get the performance out of these VMs utilizing the PCoIP protocol..  We have plenty of resources for the VMs to access, however the users who are connecting are on a 6MB MPLS network. VMs are configured with K160 and K260 profiles.

In efforts to see if I could improve performance, I setup View 7 with the Blast Extreme protocol to see that would help vs. PCoIP.  A couple of the users informed it was about the same for graphic performance, but they noticed an improvement in file open times (not sure about that).

I keep coming across YouTube videos of 4K videos being played over Blast Extreme but to me that is not a big deal.  My engineers need to navigate, rotate, walkthrough various 3D models.  Are there "optimal" GPO setting for Blast Extreme Protocol I need to be adjusting based on the bandwidth available to the users?  The site where the VMs are hosted at have a 100MB MPLS connection.  I am wondering too if their is something inside the NVIDIA Control Panel for the driver that needs some tweeking as well.

Also, I was under the impress that the Blast Extreme protocol went over the 443 port and not 8443.  Is this true?

Greatly appreciate any direction, suggestion and support.

Thank You

Agent Unreachable - Only one connection server

$

We have an agent unreachable issue but it is only affecting one connection server of the pair that we run. Some of our View desktops go agent unreachable following a restart but only on one of the connection servers. On the other server they are fully available and work OK. I've checked for connectivity between the desktop and the 'bad' connection server and that seems fine even when the unreachable status is shown.

Restarting the View Agent Service on the desktop seems to restore the agent connectivity but obviously this is causing some issues.

Has anyone encountered / solved a similar issue?

View Event logs showing The Pending session on machine %Machine name% for user %username% has expired, but users are not experiencing any issues

$

Hello Experts,

Recently, I installed Horizon View 7 for a client and on their parent images uninstalled the old version of the view agent and installed the latest 7.0.1.  So an odd thing is occurring, out of 90 users, 30 of these users are showing the following warning in the View Admin event logs after 15 minutes of logging on and happens every day to the same users.

The Pending session on machine %Machine name% for user %username% has expired.

Also, on the connection server, the logs show this message:  "Client does not support idle session handling.  Desktop SSO times out in: Never. Application SSO Times out in: Never.”

I originally thought it was the SSO timer since that was set to 15 minutes, so I changed it to NEVER and the warning still shows up for these same 30 users.  The users experiencing the issue are using Teradici Zero Clients firmware version 4.8.0.

Also, this is happening in different pools so it is not pool specific.  Has anyone experienced this with the new Horizon View 7.0.1?  Could this possibly be a bug since no one is experiencing login issues?

Thanks

View Client 4.x and RemoteApps Full Screen

Horizon 7.0.2.  Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS farm configured for remote applications.  Clients and farms configured with PCoIP.  Applications virtualized with App Volumes 2.12.  UEM 9.01.

With 4.x clients, we sometimes experience issue where View Client goes full-screen with ribbon bar along top when access an app.  Seems to occur on first launch of application (ie Chrome or Word).  Once application is closed, then opened again, the app is presented in it's own window as desired.

We do not see same issue with 3.5.x View Client.

I've seen this issue on both Windows 7/10 and MacOS clients.

Repurposing a VM previously used as source for Citrix XenDestop as Desktop for View

Hello!, Haven't found a thread about this, so, I'm launching it , A customer is migrating from Citrix VDI to Horizon and wants to use the same VMs (were created on vSphere) but now with the View agent. As far as I know, tue best practice is to start with a fresh OS installation, but he needs to migrate about 400 individual desktops to Horizon with View, Is this possible and/or supported?

Cheers!

We are upgrading Horizon 7.0.0 to 7.0.3 - Is there an Access Point Upgrade?

It's an appliance we deployed, I'm guessing the appliance is the same in 7.0.0 as in 7.0.3

Just wondering what steps are needed concerning the "upgrade" of  Access Points, or if none are needed.

Urgent Help!!! one of my client meets - "the view agent reports that this desktop source is unable to accept connections"

Dear all,

one of my staff said she could not connect her desktop vm22 and the view client said "the view agent reports that this desktop source is unable to accept connections". my view administrator displays that “the pending session on machine xx for user xxx has been expired” . but i then assigned another user to the same desktop, everything looks fine.

background:

1. I am using view 6.0.

2. This user used to assigned another desktop vm06. it took a long long time (more than 30 minutes) to login (agent set not delete local persona) , This Morning when she tried to connect(already logged in before, here just reconnect),  she got "there is no available gateway for this display protocol". So i assigned her to another desktop vm22

Is there something wrong with this user account or something else. Need your help!!! Thanks in advance!

Quirky Pending Session Errors

$

Guys i know this horse has been beat to death before on other forums but i can't seem to find anyone that has posted with a problem like this.  I am running a Horizon 6.2.1 environment with windows 7x64 workstations on a network that is separated from the internet by a proxy.   I have a security server out in front of the proxy that has the appropriate firewall exceptions allowed (per the VMWare ports and protocols white paper) and everything seems to be hunky dory.  Here is where it takes a downward turn however.  I have about 80 users in a building in VA (i am located in AL for reference) that seem to randomly give errors in the connection server log that the pending session has expired.  The end users experiences the same effect as if the firewall ports were not opened properly, they get presented with the pool to choose from when they click the pool the windows launches black then closes and they get a generic display protocol error.  I can go into the connection server and see where they tried to connect to machine X, i can then manually restart that machine from vcenter and they are able to connect to it perfectly fine with no problems.  This is happening multiple times a day and it doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason to it.  Once a user is connected, as long as the session doesn't time out from inactivity, the connection is stable and they can work all day without problems.  I have the connection server set to automatically log off after 60 minutes of disconnect and have asked the users to log off vs just close the window.  There doesn't seem to be any correlation, that i can see, between how the user terminates the session and them not being able to log back in later.  I also have tried having the systems recompose after log off but that introduces a slew of other problems and didn't seem to correct this one.

I have been trying to work this out for months now and this project is only growing and the problem is only getting worse.  I will take any help or direction that i can get at this point!  I have attached the error the end user gets
