Dear all,

one of my staff said she could not connect her desktop vm22 and the view client said "the view agent reports that this desktop source is unable to accept connections". my view administrator displays that “the pending session on machine xx for user xxx has been expired” . but i then assigned another user to the same desktop, everything looks fine.

background:

1. I am using view 6.0.

2. This user used to assigned another desktop vm06. it took a long long time (more than 30 minutes) to login (agent set not delete local persona) , This Morning when she tried to connect(already logged in before, here just reconnect),  she got "there is no available gateway for this display protocol". So i assigned her to another desktop vm22

Is there something wrong with this user account or something else. Need your help!!! Thanks in advance!

Latest ESX 5.5 host update (3248547) breaks View 6.0.1 linked clone deployments

Installing this update to hosts in my View 6.0.1 environment caused all provisioning of new linked clone machines to fail with "View Composer DiskFault: Disk customization failed due to an internal error" errors. Worked for almost four hours with VMware support (SR 15827422112) and finally just ended up reverting my hosts back to 3116895 (5.5 U3a) as my maintenance window was closing.

Hope this helps others avoid the problem.

View 6.2 + Horizon Workspace 2.1.1

Hi,

I have some issue with combination View 6.2 and Horizon Workspace 2.1.1. I use my own certificate for both products. When I have earlier version of View (View 6.1.), everything works fine. After upgrade to newest version 6.2, I have red alert at SAML 2.0 Authenticator. It says "Untrusted certificate". I use certificate from Terena SLA. This certificate works at previous version of View. If I click on verify, it says verified successfully, but that red alert is still on.

I tried to add manually certificate authority to Connection server, but without any result.

Do you have any ideas, what is wrong?

Thank you

VMware View 5.3 - Full Clones - Windows Activation

Hello,

i have a running View 5.3 Environment.

I changed my vCenter from Windows to Appliance.

Because my Composer was installed on my Windows vCenter Server i decided not to use Composer any more and changed my linked clones to full clones.

Performance is better and i have enough space on my Storage.

After recreating the VMs as full clones my Windows 7 did not get activated.

My Question is how to solve this. KMS or is there an alternative way to go?

Thanks!

Kind Regards

Marco

Windows Explorer.exe stops

I have two pools that are linked to clones.

When users log into Pool A everything seems to be working fine.

When they log out of Pool A and connect to Pool B

The system starts with welcome screen and then goes black.

A message will appear saying exeplore.exe has stopped. Another appears saying explorer.exe can not start.

If the user logs back into Pool A, the system will work fine.

I can access task manager and try to start explorer.exe manually but it will not start.

usb redirection of smart card reader not working in Windows 10

I'm trying to get my HID OmniKey smart card reader to get redirected into my VDI with the 3.5 View agent. I read the articles about adding registry keys to allow the vid/pid pair in and did that. But it still doesn't work. The reader seems to work on Windows 7. But I'm using a Surface Book with Windows 10. It also fails with Windows 10 on a Samsung laptop. It could be also related to USB 3. I think my book has only USB 3 port.

I did verify that I see the reader in the device manager of my laptop. So it's there for sure. But the View app doesn't pick it up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thinprint takes a long time to map printers on P25 zero client

We are working on a POC of Horizon View 5.3, and are down to an issue with thinprint/autoconnect.  If I connect to a View desktop from the client on my PC, the printers map and show up almost instantly.  I can run 'tpautoconnect.exe -d all' and 'tpautoconnect.exe -v' manually and they are removed and then remapped very rapidly.

But from the Wyse P25, it is a different situation.  It takes a full two minutes for the printers to be mapped at logon.  After they get mapped, I can run the two autoconnect.exe commands and it will will run much faster, but does pop up the 'no client found' message box.  It also lists the protocol as WTS, where the fat client shows PCoiP.  The P25 should also be using PCoiP.  Something just doesn't seem right here.  Is there something I should be looking for, or is it normal for it to take that long to initially map the printers upon logon from a zero client?

Our intention is to roll out the P25s as desktop replacements to our call center staff.

I have included below the output from the autoconnect commands, the first from the P25 and the second from the fat client for comparison.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Windows 7 creates temporary user in View? HELP!

$

I went through the VMware View Administrators guide and setup my Windows 7 parent image as they advised.  I created a vCenter Linked-Clone set of 60 desktops through the automated pool and they are dedicated.  So when a user logs in for the first time, VMview should assign them a desktop.

Well when users log into VMview for the first time, they receive a message saying "you have been logged on with a temporary profile".  If you look in the system profiles you see a "temp" user profile and that's it.

Do I need to create every single user on the default image before deploying out the desktops? I have the parent image setup with just the local administrator account, and the domain administrator account added.  I figured when the user logs in for the first time it would create their profiles and life would be good.

I need view to create the user's profile.... I have tried with my information (im a domain admin) and it does the same thing... HELP!!!

VMAgent Direct-Connection: Client Black/Timeout - logs indicate authentication error - please help

$

If anyone has experience with this, I would appreciate some help.  I have been trying everything I can find for three days, and it's still not working.  I think I have a local authentication issue on the View Agent.  The user included in both the Remote Desktop User group and the View Agent Direct-Connection Users group.  There are no errors in the Event Logs, but there are errors in the VDM logs.  The most suspicious one is the User 'WIN7B\user' not authorized (not local admin).  I can not find a solution to fixing this error.  The firewall is turned off.

Symptoms:  Horizon View Client makes initial connection, logon sounds, black screen, time out.  User is logged into remote machine after Horizon View connection failure, so part of the logon process completes.

Replace a Dell Perc Raid Controller

$

I am replacing a perc 310 raid controller with a H730P tomorrow on a ESXI 5.1.

I read these posts and it looks pretty straight forward:

Replace H310 with H710 - PowerEdge General HW Forum - Servers - Dell Community

LUN signature after RAID controller replacement

My question is I have a lower end Synology NAS and thought it would be safer to move the vms storage on that host to my NAS before I do the upgrade.

Then I can replace the card and if anything goes wrong everything is stored on the NAS.  Then only the vms are registered on the host but not the data.

Then after registering the new LUN and re-signaturing it all I have to do is add the vms back from the NAS datastore and then move the data back.

Does anyone see an issue with this?

Thanks,

J

VM with unsupported guest OS

Guys and gals, i have no idea where to start here with this.  I have built a development environment to work on testing a PCoIP over the internet for my company.  Anyway, i keep getting the error "VM with unsupported guest OS" when trying to add a windows 7 pool.  I have tried using windows 7, 8 and 10 all of them give the same error.  Strangely enough though Server 2012 works fine and deploys out as expected.  I have loaded the correct view agent on the workstations and it matches the view connection server version.

Any idea where to start looking?

Pool Design

Hi, I know Pool's are used to access VMs. But how should one design Pool, it is not exact science but more of art of understanding users, but there has to be some document or some explanation about Pool settings ?

Thanks

Terrible VDI Performance

$

ok, so I have two different VDI Environments.  One is a test environment made up of low end Supermicro gear and a homebuilt DSM NAS from an old core 2 duo machine.  Then I have a R620 with H710 cached controller, dual E5 cpus and 32 gigs of ram.  I ran some tests using passmark between the two vdi systems and the production environment came back with some really bad results.  Can anyone answer why this is?  As expected the disk passmark scores on the R620 were awesome compared to even SSD on the host of the super micro but the memory and cpu are terrible on the R620.  All were done with Win 7 Linked Clones

Supermicro Setup

VSphere 6 - Horizon 6

ESXI 6

MB: MBD-X10SLL-F-O

32 GIGs of Ram

Single E3-1231 v3 # 3.40GHz

VDI: Windows 7 64 bit - 8 gigs or ram, 2 CPU 2 CORE

Hard drive: DSM NAS - 5400rpm Reds

CPU Passmark Score: 7396

Memory Passmark Score: 1956

R620 Setup

VSphere 6 - Horizon 6

ESXI 5.1

Dual E5-2620 v0 @ 3.00GHz

192 GIGs of Ram

H710 RAID Controller

Hard drives: 10,000rpm SAS

VDI: Windows 7 64 bit - 8 gigs or ram, 2 CPU 2 CORE

CPU Passmark Score:  2923

Memory Passmark Score: 772

All tests were ran with multiple VDIs on both hosts so there was load on both servers.

The R620 VDIs came back with a score worse than a Core2duo according to passmark.

Can anyone tell me what I should check?    Something must be going on.  Is it the difference from ESXI 5.1 to 6?

Thanks for any insight.

DNS doesn't update when IP changes on VDI

$

I have approx 95% of my end users set up with VDIs (VMware Horizon View). When we have to reset or recompose a seat it typically gets a new IP as AD sees it as a new computer but when the VDI gets the new IP it doesn't update DNS. DHCP lease is set for 30 min (per best practice). I cannot find anything in the event logs and we do not get name conflicts. Other than shortening the lease time, is there another recommendation? I am hoping DNS and DHCP can work together on this instead of having to delete the old DNS name each time this happens.

Thanks,

Provisioning gets Disabled without any ERRORS

I am still trying to recover from the upgrade from hell and not sure if there is any light at the end of the tunnel yet.  The latest issue is that most times when i try to recompose existing pools (a few VM's at a time) it will get to a point where it goes thru all the recompose steps, then it gets to customizing and stops.  When i check the STATUS of the pool it shows that provisioning is DISABLED. There are no errors in the event viewer at all.  Once i ENABLE provisioning the recompose task continues.  I think the biggest issue for me is that i cannot schedule any recompose tasks which i do a lot of.  Any comments or suggestions are welcome.  I am running ESXi 6.0U1 and View 6.2.  All desktops are running the 6.1.1 agent due to a video driver version issue with some EHR software of mine.   Thanks in advance!

Recompose fails due to no network connection

Good afternoon everyone,

Issue = When recomposing linked clone pool a vm it fails with error “Provisioning error occurred for Machine XXXXX: Customization error due to no network communication between the View agent and Connection Server”

During recompose \ customization, the vm is powered off and never powers back on to complete recomposing. It sits powered off for an extended period of time and I get the error message above.

If I manually power on the vm via Vcenter it has an IP address but no network \ internet connectivity

Via vcenter if I remove the original network card and add a new network card, the vm will now get an ip and network connectivity. (vmxnet3, same vlan)

I have multiple pools and its all acting this way, Has anyone seen anyting like this?

things ive tried on the parent vm

* updating & downgrading vmware tools

* reloading horizon view agent

[Horizon View 6.2] Immediately switched active window to hosted app (SAP B1 Client) when there is alert in SAP B1

$

Hi All,

Not sure this is the normal behavior but it is kind of annoying. My client told me that while they are working on their excel and having the hosted app SAP B1 client opened, whenever there is alert from SAP B1 the active windows is immediately switched to SAP B1 client.

Is it normal? Or can I change any policy to disable that?

To confirm this only apply to hosted app, my client has tried launching the SAP client locally and there is no similar behavior. SAP B1 client will not be switched to active window automatically whenever there is alert message.

Thank you
