Max USB Redirected Devices

Does anyone know if there is a limit to the amount of USB devices that can be connected to a view setup.  Not how many per VM but how many per pool.  For example I have 100 linked clones in a pool and I have 100 students that each need 1 USB microphone attached.  Is there a limit to how many can be attached at once.  The reason I asked is I am noticing issues after a certain amount of people are connected and working we start to experience issues when more people start to connect and attach Microphone.  The people that connected later and attached their microphones laters start having issues.  Those that were already connect do not have any issues.  The issue is they have the ability to attached the USB microphone but it does not record any sound.  Once those students that were working log off those that were not working begin to function. 

 

 

Now I don't know if it is VMware's view that is the issue, internet connection issues, chrome issue, or performance issues on the site they are all attached too.

VMware Horizon View 5.2 Load Balancing

Hi Guys,

 

I've tried to configure my View 5.2 environment with 2 Security and 2 Connection Servers  with Load Balancer as shown in the video in following link.

 

Setting up PCoIP Remote Access with View 4.6 and Newer

 

 

 

I've few questions it would be great if you guys could answer them please.

 

1- Users will connect to myview.mydomain.com through Load Balancer VIP but we're not giving any URLs in the External URL instead we're giving an IP Address. Due to which View Admin console giving error that "SSL Certificate doesn't match the External URL".

 

2- Do I need to configure HTTP to HTTPS redirection on Load Balancer end? Because after configuring myview.mydomain.com as VIP, HTTP doesn't work anymore but only HTTPS works.

 

3- Can I use View Security Internal IPs (which are in DMZ) on External URL and PCoIP External URL?

 

Please find the attached screenshotsof my current configurations for Security Servers which works fine using Source Hash. Only 2 issues as dicussed above
View Administrators shows SSL Certificate does not match the External URLs and HTTP to HTTPs redirection.

 

Looking forward for your answers.

VMware VIew - Customization operation timed out when we launch linked clone Recompose

Hello,

 

We have VMware Horizon View 5.2.0 infrastructure and we have created some different pools because we needed to migrate the previous production pools (from QuickPrep Guest Customization to Sysprep Guest Customization, due to a KMS host for Windows and Office licenses perfectly working).

 

Well...

 

Now we have an issue because when we launch a Recompose to any Linked Clone belonging to the new pools, we can be in three states:

 

1- Recompose is done perfectly.

2- Recompose stops with an state Customization operation timed out

3- Recompose shows an error "Customization operation timed out" but later continues and finishes the task.

 

 

We have modified the Register key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\vmware-viewcomposer-ga\ExecScriptTimeout REG_WORD" from the Windows 7 with SP1 template to increase timeout from 20000ms to 999999ms.

 

We have applied the Microsoft hotfix to the Windows 7 template because we have installaled VMXNET3 NIC.

 

"A fatal error occurred" error message when you run the Sysprep command on a VMware virtual machine that is r…

 

 

So, we are suffering the same situations.

 

Anybody could help us? Any idea?

Force Horzion View Persona to "Sync" from end-user linked-clone VM

We are deploying a VMware Horizon View 5.3 system with Windows 7 x64 linked-clone desktops to a medical centre.

 

Their medical management software stores each users printer settings under HKCU in the registry on the linked-clone desktops. It stores the "Workstation Name" and Printer Settings for "A4 Letters", "A5 Receipts", "Scripts" etc.

 

This format of storing printer settings is not really compatible with a linked-clone deployment. We have written scripts that exports this information "at will" - i.e. click on an icon on the desktop, and then reapplies the saved information when a user logs on.

 

The doctor then sets all of his desired printer settings in the medical application, clicks "Lock Printer Settings" icon on the desktop (saves registry settings and user details to central store). These settings are then imported into the registry based on the username when a user logs back on - no doubt getting a different linked-clone desktop.

 

This works fine, however - here lies the problem:

 

ViewPersona only "syncs" the registry every 10 minutes (as set by GP). If a doctors changes his printer settings and then immediately uses the "Lock Printer Settings" script, it exports the previous printer settings and the ViewPersona has not yet had time to "Sync". I know we could change the GP to SYNC every 1 minute, but it is still is not foolproof.

 

So, question: is there a way to force the ViewPersona to "SYNC" by running a script - initiated by the user, from their linked-clone Windows 7 desktop?

 

I would envision that we would incorporate this into the current "Lock Printer Settings" script. i.e. Sync the ViewPersona, and then export registry items.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Dell Wyse p45 CA Problem

I'm trying to connect my dell wyse p45 to the server.

 

But when i try to do so i got the error:

I went to my dekstop pc, and connect to the local ip adress.

There i got the CA, i extracted it to .cer and renamed it to .pem

I uploaded it on my Dell Wyse P45. Along with 2 other CA of my desktop. (in other topic they adviced to do so)

But i still can't connect to the server. I attached a log files.

 

Can some tell me how to fix this problem?

VMware View 5.3.1 and Windows 2012 R2 Active Directory funtional level

Hi

 

As I can read in https://www.vmware.com/support/view53/doc/horizon-view-531-release-notes.html

 

VMware Horizon View does not support the Windows Server 2012 Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) domain functional level. You can use Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2008 R2 AD DS domain functional levels with VMware Horizon View.

 

Does this mean that I can install VMware View 5.3.1 in a environment with Win 2012 R2 AD configured in Win 2003/2008/2008 R2 functional level?

 

That is a supported installation?

Monitoring view with powershell ?

Is there a way to monitor a view server with powershell ?

I'd like to count the VM in a dynamic pool by state (connected, available, error ...)

 

I have only found a way to count the number of active sessions.

 

Any help would be appreciate.

ThinPrint - Printer mapping but not printing?

Hi all,

 

I have setup a thinprint test enviroment. It is setup to map a particular printer to a particular thin client based on IP information.

The printer is mapping but I can't print to it. The print job just sits in the queue as "printing".

 

I have opened following ports on the firewall:

 

TCP 515: LDP
TCP 631: IPP (Internet Printing Protocol)
TCP/UDP 9100: HP Jetdirect

 

Do I need to open any other ports or did I forget to do something else? I browsed the Horizon View Admin guide but it doesn't say anything about ports in regards to Thinprint.

USB Signature pads in View 4.6 problems when latency over 20ms

Anytime the latency between the VM and the client goes over 20ms when using the signature pads you get random input instead of the actual signature.  I have tested this in View 5 as well.  Our MPLS averages 18ms so its very common to cause problems at the moment.  I do have QoS in plase for port 4172.

 

Tested on vSphere 4.1 ESX/View 4.6, and vSphere 4.1/View 5

 

Any ideas much appreciated. Very noticeable problem to our users.

Linked clone desktops slow on new connection

Hello.

 

I'm experiencing some strange (to me at least) behaviour when connecting to my virtual desktops (linked clones) over PCoIP.

 

Whenever I open a new connection (using Dell Wyse P25 zero clients), fast movements inside the desktop appear somewhat jerky/laggy. For instance, dragging around windows shows noticeable jerkiness.

However, if I keep dragging windows around for a while (like 10 seconds or so, I haven't actually timed it), the jerkiness disappears and fast movements become way more fluid than before (the way it's supposed to be).

As far as I could tell, once the desktop is "fluid", it will stay that way - UNLESS you disconnect the session and reopen it (same session, no logoff required) - then the jerkiness will return.

 

Does this ring a bell for anyone? To me it sounds like there's some kind of power management going on, but I've already disabled power management policies on every level I can think of: on the physical servers, in ESXi and the guest OS (Win 7 x64).

 

Some more details on my setup:

  • HP Gen8 blade servers w/ 2 x 10 core Xeon E5 each
  • VMs have 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM, running Windows 7 Professional SP1
  • View version 5.3

 

Also, there's virtually no load on the ESXi hosts at the moment, as this is pretty much just a lab environment right now.

 

Please let me know if you need to know anything else.

Cannot print on my local printer anymore since update of latest VMWare Horizon View (for Windows x64)

I have a Brother 7065DN. Since latest update I cannot print (in remote mode) on my local printer anymore.

 

1. I see the printer

2. when I print it enters and leaves the spooler on the remote machine

3. nothing happens on my local spooler or printer

 

I have tested to re-install printer software and drivers and rebooted but I think it is something with latest VMWare Horizon Client as it worked before.

VMware Horizon View 5.3.1 Transfer server

I am new to VMware infrastructure setup.  I have followed the white pages for installation for the VMware Horizon View 5.3.1.  I have been able to add the vcenter server, composer server, and the transfer server without any issues.  When I try to put the transfer server into maintenance mode it is stuck on "Pending" status.  I cannot find any logs that show any issues, but obviously it is not working.  I cannot configure the repository until the server is in maintenance mode.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Horizon View 5.2 linked clones corrupt redo logs

test lab. I have yet to succeed in creating a single working linked clone pool with 5.2 all my linked clones end up with a corrupt redo log on first reboot.  I tried with a simple vanilla W7 image,  . I tried to clone the master VM to start fresh ... no dice.

 

Any help or info appreciated.

View 5.0 Broker error if user do a Login

Hi,

on VMware View 5.0 I get following error:

Unable to launch from Pool vDesk-CH-Delta for user Kunde\KunzR: The broker encountered an error while processing the request, please contact support for assistance

 

I used google, but I did'nt find something. What can I do to resolve this errors?

Issue with Persistent Disk

I have a weird issue with a few persistent disks. I have a pool of 18 VDI and 16 of them working properly on two of the VDI, profiles are not being saved on the persistent disk, so every time user log-in, he/she loosing favorites and other things.

Is there anything I can do to fix it?

How do you monitor / manage your View deployment?

We're looking for some management tools to help keep an eye on View desktops.  We're not huge fans of vCOPS simply due to its enormous sizing it needs for RAM (we're a 50 person shop) and it also seems to be designed for very large organizations, not to mention it isn't cheap.

 

What alternatives are out there besides vCOPS?

Persistant VMs replication with vSphere replication

Hi all,

 

Is vSphere replication supported with the vCenter that comes with VMWare Horizon View 5.2?

Does a View licence permits me to downolad and use the vSphere replication appliance?

 

I wanted to know if it's possible to replicate a persistent VM in Horizon View 5.2 between 2 sites that each has its own vCenter as part of a disaster recovery plan. The number of replicated VMs will not be more then 50 VMs from site 1 to site 2 and 50 VMs from Site 2 to site 1.
