I'm having an issue that has somewhat plauged me for some time now and hoping to get some community feedback on your experiences deploying Horizon View 5.3 (or higher) to Developer and Software Engineers.
I'm sure all will agree that this user type can be resource demanding when it comes to compute and even storage. I can understand this as I've supported this user type and most are accustomed to having physical workstations/servers with the resources they need to accommodate their workloads. Naturally as this user type transitions to VDI they'll usually want the same compute/storage resources available within their virtual machines. Allowing this user type to have the resources they request can quickly consume storage/compute and reduce the VM-to-Host ratio.
In my experience I've worked with two organizations that adopted VDI. In doing so both places rapidly went from POC to production in short time frames without analyzing user types. These users were both local and remote users both in the US and overseas. Throwing resources at virtual desktops always proved to be a short term solution that didn't always resolve the problem.
With that said, I'm curious to hear about your experiences and how you overcame deploying VDI for this user type. An extention of my problem has been that these deployments I've been a part of have started before I've come on board with these organizations therefore allowing me to give minimal input on direction let alone buy in from management on best practice and how to proceed with providing VDI to Developers and Software Engineers.
Along with your experiences and suggestions, please feel free to point to any other web based resources that may assist as I've had a hard time finding groups, documentation and blogs that directly address deployments for these user types.
Thanks in advance for all your input.
