Mouse support for View on iPad

$

The only comfortable and productive way to operate a Windows OS remotely is still with a mouse. Since some other iPad remote control solutions supports Bluetooth mice for the iPad (e.g. Citrix with X1 mouse and Jump Desptop with the Swiftpoint mouse, all without jailbreaking) it would be very pleasing to have mouse support for Horizon View too. Although the pencil is now supported it is still worlds apart from using a real mouse. We tried it with Jump Desktop and the X1 mouse at the weekend and is was amazing (although I must say that PCoIP shows a much better remote performance than RDP).

So please support iPad compatible BT mice with the next release. It should not be too difficult after supporting the pencil....

C:\Windows\Temp

I have a VM that is a manual pool, and for whatever reason the C:\windows\temp folder keeps getting filled up with CAB files and shutting down my VM after the drive gets full.  Looks like something to do with Tools but not certain.  The attached file shows some of the files and there are some that i cannot delete.  I tried to uninstall and reinstall tools with no luck.  Tried the management service researt with now luck.  Does anyone know what is causing this or how to get rid of it without rebuilding the VM?  Any help is appreciated.  thanks

2 load balanced connection servers not syncing/sharing info

I have 2 view connection servers running version 6.2.1, they are load balanced with a Citrix Netscaler, we recently upgraded to 6.2.1 and have ran into some behavior/issues

-If I go to View Administrator and look under connection servers 1 shows version 6.0.1-2088845 and the other shows version 6.2.1-3284346 (I tried the full power off and power on connections servers but it did not resolve this)

-If I create a desktop pool and load balancer send me to connection server 1, I don't see the entitlement if I am load balanced to connection server2

-if I see the pool that was created on connection server 1 on connection server 2 and try to edit it I get Adam errors

Issues with Folder Redirection with Persona Management, View 6.2.0

Hi All,

I'm using Persona Management to setup up folder redirection. Desktop, Documents and Favorites are copied to the redirected location upon the first login. When user logs in again, persona doesn't load these items from the redirected folders but instead creates their local copies. This is strange.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

new to view...question on snapshots

Hi all,

I am a long time datacenter admin of vsphere...just recently getting into view, which is totally new to me.  Supporting the datacenter world for so long I tend to think that snapshots are a bad thing...when used incorrectly.  I always try to keep a snapshot no longer than a day.  I am finding that in View it's not the case.  Can someone send me documentation on how/why it is encouraged to use a snapshot for the image at all times with the gold image?  Is it just a different mindset for desktop support?  When you point to a snapshot is it even really "using" it, or is this just a point in time recovery in case your new image breaks?  Does it hinder performance? I have been looking online and can't really find a document or kb that clearly lays out the best practices of snapshot use in the desktop support world as opposed to the server world.  Again, sorry if my questions seem dumb...I still don't have a full understanding of View yet, but I'll get there

User Desktop icons and Favorites revert back - Horizon View 6.2

Hi All,

We are using Persona Management for managing user profiles for our Automated Floating Desktop Pools. Users are entitled to multiple Desktop Pools and they login to one VDI session at one time logging off the other one. We're having a strange problem where user desktop icons revert back and the Favorites icon get duplicated if a user tries to delete or re-arrange them. I understand Persona Management does not currently support multiple concurrent sessions to the same profile and If more than one session is detected, it goes into a read-only mode, during which no changes are uploaded to the network. However, in our scenario users are logging off and then connecting to other desktop pool so there is only one session per user at any time. However, the changes they are making across those sessions are being merged and duplicated. I've made sure there's enough time between log off/on process so the profiles get synced across the network.

Has anyone faced this issue?

Any suggestion would be greatly Appreciated.

Thanks,

Loc.

Teradici Zero (Dell P25) USB Printer Issues

I am experiencing an issue where print jobs submitted on Horizon View Windows 7 SP1 virtual desktops to USB connected printers fail part of the way through the print job.  For instance, 15 pages of a 25 page PDF document may print before showing an error in Windows.  The USB printers are two different HP models.  The endpoints are Dell P25's.  We have tested the P25s with all firmware versions from 4.5 through 5.0.2 and the issue persists.  The Horizon View Agents we have tried are 6.1.1 and 6.2.2 (ThinPrint components disabled - USB redirection only).

The only entry of possible relevance we have seen on the P25 logs (with USB enhanced logging enabled) is:

[meta sequenceId="24794"]2016-03-08T17:21:01.90Z RC:0 URBOIP:process_request_cancel Calling transfer abort for URB req 0x3a8

(the time stamp on this log entry does not match the Agent log entries below because they are not from the same error instance)

We only started experiencing this issue after we swapped out Windows ThinPC repurposed PC endpoints with the P25s.

We do see the following in the VMWare View Agent logs on the virtual desktops:

Evaluating Horizon

Hello,

Looks like "View" and "Horizon" are the same product, correct?

I am looking to evaluate the products (besides using the hosted lab).  From reading the installation requirements, can somebody confirm how many servers do I need to start out with.  So far, looks like l need a minimum of 2 servers.

1)  View Server

2) Sql Server

Thanks,

TT

Delayed Refresh on Logoff in 6.2

$

Hi everyone,

Since moving a client to View 6.2 (from 5.3.2), they are complaining that View is slow to put a VM in maintenance mode for refresh after logoff.  This is in a floating pool set to logoff immediately on disconnect and refresh immediately on logoff.  If a user logs off of a VM, and logs in to another one in another room fairly quickly, they get logged in to the new session on the original VM but with keyboard and mouse not working.  They should be getting a new VM at that point.

They are working around the issue by turning off the endpoint (zero client) and staying logged out for five minutes while the original VM goes into maintenance mode.

They did not have this issue with 5.3.2.  Has anyone seen this, or does anyone know why there might be a difference with the new version?  Thanks in advance.

VMWare View Persona Management 6.2.0 not sycning

We currently have an issue with persona management not syncing for several users and is very intermittent. We have tested on several different linked-clone pools with several master images and can replicate this issue although sometimes persona will sync correctly.

We are running the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection along with EMET.

We have had the GPO settings configured exactly the same for the last few years and have never experienced any issues.

We have checked and client side caching and de-duplication is disabled.

Here are the log files from one of the machines:

Kodak i2600 Scanner Connected to Dell Wyse P25 Zero Client Communication Issue

We are having an issue with Kodak scanners and the way they are communicating with the Virtual Machines they are attached to.  We aren’t sure where the issue is at exactly, hoping someone here has had an experience with it:

The Kodak i2600 Scanners are attached physically to Dell P25 Zero Clients at 3 separate users’ desks.  All 3 Users connect to VMs via the Zero Clients.  Once connected to the VM, the Scanners attach via Scanner Redirection and are online and working (Windows sees them Connected and the Kodak Software sees them connected).  From here, the users, going through a bank's site and online software, use the scanners to scan batches of checks into the bank's system.  While this is going on, the scanners are intermittently pausing (sometimes for minutes) in the middle of these batches and then starting again to pull the checks through.  Most times, the checks will all pull through eventually and the scanner will stop.  Other times, however, the scanners will stop pulling checks and get stuck in a constant running mode, unable to function or do anything until you pull the USB Cable out of the Zero Client and power off and on the scanner OR reboot the Virtual Machine and power off and on the scanner.  Once these measures are taken, the scanner goes back to working fine.  Over time, however (sometimes in a half hour, sometimes longer) the issues start to come back and get progressively worse until the scanner gets to the constant running mode again, requiring the reset process.

In terms of the Drivers and Physical Scanner, at no time does the scanner lose communication with Windows or the Kodak Scanner software and is visible and online within Windows.  When these scanners were setup on local PC's, directly attached via USB, these issues were not present.

These Virtual Machines are on different hosts and the scanners are seen within Windows as online the entire time, so not looking to be the VM itself, but appears to be losing some communication from the time it leaves the VM port and gets to the Zero Client Port and the scanner and then back, but after reading more about scanner redirection, I am starting to think that it could be the culprit instead.

Hoepfully someone has seen something like this or could shed some light on it...

Windows 7 desktops get second "Change Network Password" option. Can it be disabled?

Hi everyone.

I've set up a Windows 7 desktop pool.  When users need to change their passwords, they hit CTRL+ALT+INSERT, and are prompted with two options.  The first one says "Change network password" and the second one shows their account name.  Our technical team all have their staff accounts, an elevated account, and a basic account with no group membership for testing.  So, having never seen such a prompt, we figured the main "username" option was only for our main account.  It turns out that the other "Change Network Password" option doesn't even work, which is frustrating to say the least.  So I started digging a little and discovered that this option can be turned off by disabling the authentication provider.  But I want to make sure that if I do this, it won't break SSO.  Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks for any and all help!

Chrome OS - Horizon View Client - broken?

Greetings,

We run our labs using Chromebases(Chrome OS) The recent 4.0 Horizon View update for Chrome OS(Web Store) released last Friday has prevented people from connecting successfully.

Symptoms: Folks are getting prompted to choose a folder, and regardless of what is chosen, they are never prompted to input a server. Anyone else encounter an issue with this release or have some thoughts?

Our Google Deployment is unique in that:

1. All of our Lab Chrome devices do not store user profiles.

2. App assignment is based on users, so when a user logs on to a machine, they have to download the Horizon Client brand new each and every time --which sets off this problem!

No one can currently connect and I have been off and on the phone with VMware today as no one seems to be have any insight into the Chrome client. Any input is appreciated!

VMware Horizon View client and high DPI screens

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has a solution to getting the View client to play nice with high DPI screens, such as those with 3200x1800 screen resolution, or Apple's 2880x1800 screen resolution on the Macbook Retina 15". The View client doesn't seem to scale properly, and the only fix seems to be changing the desktop screen resolution and then logging into view. I don't think this is a very graceful fix, and my user's aren't too happy about it either.

Thanks,

Ryan

OK, this one is really odd. We just started using a new vendor's software package and they store the config file in \user\AppData\Local. The path to the file is long and unusual: c:\users\testuser\appdata\local\RedBlack_Software,_LLC\RebalanceExpress.exe_Url_mkifulw1umwvcexmdjvosrjqjy4h1rgb\5.6.2.0\user.config, and the file is not being copied to the user's PM repository. Where is the www.emc.com and java.com coming from? Is it trying to interpret that directory name as a URL? The only file in that directory is "user.config". Any idea how to fix this?

View 7 vCenter Server Can't Verify Certificate

$

We have a vCenter 6 and a vCenter 5.5 instance.  vCenter 6 let's me verify the default self-signed cert. vCenter 5.5 when you click verify does nothing.  When you go to servers, and edit the 5.5 it always gives this error:

"Possibly an invalid vCenter Server certificate. Please verify the identity of the associated vCenter Server."

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling composer again to no avail.  The "View Composer Servers" let's me verify the certificate.  I'm guessing another bug with Horizon View 7.
